I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a Dell Optiplex running Windows XP Pro SP3, running Symantec Endpoint Protection, and I have the most up-to-date windows updates, and IE and Firefox browsers.

The browsers are my problem. They both will work for a little bit and then crash. Not just one crash but 4-10 times in the span of a few minutes, on all types of sites (facebook, google searches, yahoo mail, ebay, etc). I?m pretty much on my last nerve and very frustrated with this problem. It has been going on for about a week now.

Here is a list of what I have done to try and fix the problem:
? Uninstalled and reinstalled both
? Updated Java (it is enabled in both)

I have pasted just a few of the Event Error logs. Now keep in mind that this list can go on and on but this is just from Monday and Tuesday:

Symantec is known to not be the best in catching malware that might come into your system. I would try running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and see if that finds anything. Download it from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org. Please then post its log back here! Thanks

Download this tool to your desktop:
http://www.uploads.ejvindh.net/rootchk.exe
Run the program. After a short time a logfile will turn up. Copy the contents of the log into the thread.

Notice: Some security-programs prevent the creation of dummy drivers with certain names. This may cause false positives. If the log of rootchk contains a lot of hidden drivers, you may want to turn of your security programs while rootchk is scanning (you should then unhook your network connection as well)

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your... Read more

I have recently built a new computer and firefox and any dx11 game randomly crash to desktop. I have had a few BSOD, but have found nothing that helps by searching around. I have disabled all sound devices in device manager that I am not using. I have ran memtest but found no errors. I also ran driver verifier for about 8 hours with no BSOD, but when I turned on all drivers and not just the ones not signed by microsoft I blue screen right after I login to windows, something about hidclass.sys. I can also recreate that minidump if that would be helpful.

OS - Windows 7 x64 Enterprise Edition SP1
Hardware is about 1 month old
reinstalled windows about a week ago

CPU - core i5 2500k
Video Card - EVGA gtx 570 sc
Mobo - Asus P8z68-v/gen3
PSU - Cooler master 850w - only old hardware/ not replaced for this build
RAM - Corsair Vengence 2x4gb

I hope that is everything I need to upload. Thanks for any replies.

This girl I know sent me that link on MSN. It looked pretty suspicious (funny cat...?), so I tried to copy and paste it so I can see what Google had to say about it. When I was copying and pasting it I accidentally clicked on it. When It opened up it turned out to be some picture of a girl holding her diaper out with a little boy looking inside of it. It said "With this, I'll control your LIFE" (I thought that it implied that it was actually a bad link and that I was about to get a virus or something). After it opened, my browser had closed down. The girl in the image looked like she was topless, it closed down so quickly that I didn't have a chance to even look closely at the picture.

I asked some more people if they knew what it was. One person opened it but they said their browser didn't close down. I was using Opera, he was using Firefox, not sure if it makes a difference. He said that it first tried to open it with Adobe Reader but then failed. Then the picture quickly 404'd on him.

I asked another person and she said that her browser didn't even show her the site. She said that her browser said the site was "unsafe".

I tried googling the website, nothing came up. Nothing at all.

Any ideas of what this could be?

A:Image-You? {Moved Thread}

I've edited your link so that people cannot accidentally click on it. I've also moved your thread to the Virus & Malware Removal section.

Kaspersky flags the site the link goes to as: HEUR:Trojan.Script.Iframer

I had to download codec-v in order to watch an online movie. Does anyone know why? Is it possible to watch the movie without codec-v?

A:Codec-v [Moved Thread]

According to Google Search, Codec-V is malware. See this: http://www.removeonline.com/how-to-remove-codec-v-trojan/

The video website you visited told you that you needed Codec-V to play the video, when in fact that was just to trick you into putting malware on your PC. I guess you're online protection software either isn't very good, out-of-date, or you don't have any such protection. You should post on the malware forum for instructions on how to remove it. This is a difficult problem to explain so I ask that you please bare with me.

Internet on my desktop has become very choppy and it actually is preventing me from playing basically all online games, things get far too laggy, NPCs do not load, skills take a stupid amount of time to initiate and so on. I've made posts on other forums that were useless mostly, I believe people were confused by my explanation.

I have tried all the basics such as switching between wireless connections and wired connections, the problem still occurs. Online games and programs are mostly useless.

Time to throw you all off your thinking:
If I take 3 steps over to my laptop, this problem does not exist, everything runs flawlessly and I have download speeds of up to 40Mbps. Games run without stutter and without problems. This is on the same network and everything.

Again as a reminder: I have tried both a wireless and wired connection on my desktop
I've also tried updating ALL drivers, as well as restoring Windows 7 back to factory settings. I am at a complete loss.

I appreciate all help, if you require clarification or images, etc feel free to ask.

Thanks!

The driver must be in your motherboard CD. Pop the CD in. It'll most probably autorun and let you choose the options. Install the audio driver. Then the sound system should work fine.

Ctra10:

Your computer is badly infected.

I don't see any full-time anti-virus program installed and running in the background, and I don't see any anti-malware/anti-spyware program installed.

Your log shows numerous O16 entries that are associated with FaceBook and MySpace and on-line gaming.

Between that type of on-line activity and not having any protection, it's not surprising that your computer is infected.

Your thread is already in the "Malware Removal & HijackThis Logs" section, so now it's a matter of you waiting for assistance and instructions by a yellow shield malware expert.

--------------------------------------------------------------

In the meantime, do the following:

Go here and click the green icon to download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.41.

Go here and click the green icon to download SUPERAntiSpyware 4.29.0.1002.

Just download them and save them for now. Don't install them nor do anything with them yet.

Also, uninstall Logitech Desktop Messenger.

Hi guys,

Thanks for reading.

I'm having a bit of a problem here. When my computer gets to windows it basically freezes, but not quite. I check my processes in task manager, and i see that iexplore.exe is using up 99-100% of my CPU. I then end the process and all of the programs and computer boot up normally. I have scanned my computer for virus', spyware, adware and malware, but nothing comes up. I am using XP, with SP2 and all of the available updates, bar one. And that is because if i download and install it, i get an error when my computer boots up saying:

The Following File is missing or corrupt blah blah

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntoskrnl.exe

Please repair and such.

So i just don't download and install it, and i highly doubt this is the problem.

Thanks for taking the time to read, and i hope to hear from someone soon.

All the best

Question I have: Could a exceptional ability be able to edit registry to rid of bug all together.

A:TeslaCrypt(?) - Moved thread needing assistance.

What she has is malware that has encrypted all the files and requires a ransom to supposedly recover, which I wouldn't trust; they may just take the money and do nothing. You need to remove the infection and then restore the files using a backup or Previous Versions if that feature is enabled. What you have been infected with is most likely TeslaCrypt. If the computer is on a network then disconnect it immediately and check your server or any other network shares as it does spread across the network and if you don't have a backup then your files are lost.

I'm going to move this to the Malware Removal Section.

Once clean you can see if you have previous versions enabled on your Windows 7 installation: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/previous-versions-files-faq#1TC=windows-7

Or hopefully you have current backups.

That number is the Security ID for a user - as you are seeing a number rather than a name the user concerned is either from a previous OS or another OS in a multi-Boot system.

I use Magic Jack, Skype and other VOIP web conference rooms and
I'm having one helluva time trying to figure out how to configure my

thingys...

With XP, I just plugged the dongle in and activated the headset and
everything worked.

It seems that there are at least 1/2 dozen different options for recording
and playback and I can never get them right...

What works for one thing, i.e. Magic Jack, doesn't seem to work with
Skype or conference room... Grrrrrrrrrr...

If anyone knows how I can fix this, I will be incredibly grateful.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Please download (save) SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your desktop.
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop. Select all of the contents and Extract them
to a new folder called SmitfraudFix.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hi, hoping someone can maybe help.
Every time I open Explorer a message from AVG comes up saying it's detected a virus in system32/spserialj.dll
Virus identifcation: Obfustat.VYN

Moving it to the virus vault or telling it to heal does nothing to get rid of it. Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of it?

Thanks,
Lilee

Recently, i have noticed that my language bar is missing (don't send me links about language bar cause they don't have the root solution of my problem)

So i researched and found out, and also related the problem to an error in the ctfmon.exe file.

It is NOT present in the processes (as it used to be), But it is checked in the Msconfig, Start Up, present in the Registry, and present in C:\Windows\System32 & \System\, Yet, when i double click it from 'My Computer', the following message appears:

Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click start button, and then click search.

The funny thing is: When i copy and paste that file in any directory on the PC, the error message's directory also changes accordingly!

Hi everybody!

I know some out there are thinking "Oh no, another 'my icons are moving' thread from someone who hasn't looked for previous posts", but this is different as far as I can tell. I have gone through every Desktop Icon related thread I can find, and this seems to be a new problem.

I will try to explain...

First off, this happened out of the blue, which is what makes me nervous. I normally keep my icons to the left, with any open projects or new things to the right, and I keep my Recycle Bin at the bottom right as well. I will often save an image temporarily on the desktop, then when I am done I will drag it to the trash. This is something that happens just about every day, usually more than once a day. A couple days ago I tried to drag a picture to the trash, and as soon as it started to move it disappeared, and I was dragging an empty cursor accross the screen. Then I noticed that the picture was now located in the upper left corner where I keep my "My Computer" icon, having pushed the My Computer icon down a notch. The whole row was moved down, with the bottom icon moved to the top of the second row. Which ever icon i try to move, it gets put at the top left. I end up having to move all the icons in the right order to get them all lined up again. What puzzles me is that I made no changes, but now I can no longer move any icon, or drag any icon to the trash.

I do have the "Align Icons to Grid" checked, as I always have. When I ... Read more

Welcome to SF.

Okay, this weird. Does the same thing happen if you move folders?

Has your mouse been acting strangely otherwise?

Have you tried doing a system restore to a date prior to this problem?

Have you run malwarebytes?

Or rebuild icon cache?

Still dealing with problems and have run across some things I am not sure what they are or what they mean.

First I found that the ram for this computer is not cheap, it's the old rambus and is getting hard to find. I am looking at some on Ebay but I am leary. But it's much cheaper there, for 512 (2x256) at most sites it's running around 300 bucks but have found it on ebay for around 100 bucks.

Second, I ran a pc checkup on the dell site and got a few odd things that worry me and I am hoping someone can help answer some questions because of course Dell offers no answers unless I want to pay a butt load of money I don't have. (Ticks me off that I still owe around 600 on this one! I could buy a better one cheaper!)

It says I have 255MB in Physical Memory and 2048MB in Virtual Memory, whats the difference and isn't that kinda low? I am getting warnings of low virtual memory. I have a 40GB hard drive with 57% free, so is it talking about my processor memory that would be helped with the ram upgrade?

And it says I have an issue with my PCI Status Test, what is that? I am no guru but isn't that something to do with the motherboard? Oh PLEASE tell me it isn't.

Any light you folks can shed on this would be so appreciated, I swear if I win the lottery you guys are first on my list ROFL... ok the mortgage is first but then you!!

I didn't know where else to put this so I apologize ahead of time.

I am working on this computer running Windows 7. After running several anti-virus/malware programs (Avast, Microsoft Essentials, Malwarebytes, EmsisoftEmergencyKit) several viruses were removed. I didn't note the names at the time. Prior to the removal, certain features wouldn't work, e.g. when clicking on a Control Panel applet, nothing would run. Those things are working now. I am able to get online, but certain items fail, such as updating Microsoft Essentials. I checked and Firewall is not running, nor can I get it running.

I have tried running MS Fix It, importing registry entries for Base Filtering Engine (BFE) and Windows Firewall Authorization Driver (MPSDRV) - doesn't seem to be running...

I am open to ANY ideas.

I just restarted my system and it looks like neither Mozilla or IE can start. Minutes ago they were working just fine. Opera works just fine but when I try opening Internet Explorer I just get a blank page and when I try typing an address it goes unresponsive. Mozilla doesn't even open a window. It does show up as a process but not as an application. I just connected my phone via USB and tinkered around a little bit trying to get it to work but couldn't in the seconds in between the browsers working and not working. I'm stumped. If it's a virus, why is Opera unaffected. And why is it affecting IE and Mozilla in different ways? I reinstalled IE but it's doing the same...
Please this is driving me crazy!

Edit: Just finished a quick scan with AVG and it found no infections...I'm stumped...

Hi,
It used to be that the default behavior on double clicking my local disks in My Computer was 'Open', now it has somehow been changed to 'Auto' whatever the heck that is. It does nothing, so everytime I have to right click on the disk and manually choose 'Open'. I believe it was caused by a program I installed, but I dont know which one it is, and even if I did know, I want to keep all my programs anyways. Is there anyway I can manually reset the default behavior to 'Open'?
thanks for any help,
Roger
