Windows Fails to Alert Battery Level and Shuts Down

Q: Windows Fails to Alert Battery Level and Shuts Down

Windows doesn't alert me of low battery power and the battery dies. It has been happening for the past couple of days now. I have checked the power plan settings and see that is is suppose to warn me at 16% and is suppose to hibernate at 9%. Anyone know what is causing it not to do either?

Preferred Solution: Windows Fails to Alert Battery Level and Shuts Down

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I hope someone can help. I have an Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop that was originally Vista but now is running 8 pro.
The problem I have is that since I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro, I no longer receive an on-screen message warning of low battery level.
I however still have the battery level indicator in the task bar, which still functions correctly.
Any comments,ideas welcome.

I need help as my ACER Aspire E15 laptop stopped from showing a low battery warning and will just hibernate as it reached critical battery level. I tried to check the advance setting on the power option but still no hope. One time, it warned me again but not anymore. My laptop is just 6 months old as it was bought back in November 2015. HELP! THANKS! BEN

A:No low battery level warning message on windows 8....

In this case, you can follow the steps below and check if that works:1. Right-click on the battery icon at the bottom of the screen and select "Power Options".2. If you are not able to view the battery icon, you can go to "Power Options" by clicking the "Start" button, clicking "Control Panel", clicking "System and Security", and then clicking "Power Options" (this step may vary depending upon your Windows version).3. Click "Change plan settings" and then click "Change advanced power settings".4. In the next popup, first check if "Balanced [active]" is the actual active profile.5. Then click on "Battery"-"low battery notification" and check if both options are "ON".6. If the options are not On, turn them On and click Apply -> Ok. If the issue still persists, you can contact nearest Acer service center using the following link for further assistance:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service Hope this will help you.

I am a Yoga 700-14ISK user for 2 years. And I had encounter serveral issues with this laptop before (and the service center helped me to fix them) However, now there is an issue I just have now - my battery is draining fast like 1% lost per 2-3 min for light usage (browsing on Chrome or doing my schoolwork either on Microsoft Office or Google Drive) I suspected it was due to my battery wear level. However, as I monitored it, I realised it keep fluctuating (from 19.64% to 42.02%) until I re-calibrate which gives me 38.51% and then 38.71% after a charge to 60%. Is it possible the battery wear level can cause the quick drain in battery?  Is this battery wear level normal? I would also like to point out that I had the battery changed over a year ago and I normally used my laptop for schoolwork and gaming (occasionally now after realising the issue.) I am also going to have an internship (at least 6 months) from July so I am very worried that my laptop can't last long especially its battery. Hence, should I go to a Lenovo service center and request for a battery replacement? Please give me any possible reasons on why the laptop battery starts to drain fast and its battery wear level sharp increase, and also possible solutions for these issues. I would like to know more about it in order to sustain my laptop at least for a year.

My battery level was on 15% then I went for a nap and after waking up, the battery level was still on 15%. I checked if the battery adapter was plugged in correctly and even tested it on another laptop to see if It works and it did. My laptop does charge but only the indicator doesn't work properly as it should. My guess is that there should a problem with the drivers because when I opened device manager and reinstall the AC drivers, it then displays the current battery level but the problem still persists.
Thanks!

This may have been posted somewhere here over the weekend, but I couldn't find it. If so, my apologies for repeating it. I receive email notifications from Message Labs on occasion and like to share them here.

Beware of a new email-borne mass-mailing virus

On 1st August 2003, MessageLabs the email security company
intercepted copies of a new mass-mailing virus called
W32/Mimail.A-mm, and stopped the first copy originating from the
United States.

Name: W32/Mimail.A-mm
Number of copies intercepted so far: 37,342
Time & Date first Captured: 1st August 2003 12:28GMT
Origin of first intercepted copy: United States
Number of countries seen active: 85 (US 80%; UK 7%)

Initial Synopsis
This file uses a combination of Windows exploits including
MS02-015 and MS03-014, to automatically create an executable
file on the recipient’s computer and then attempts to run it.
W32/Mimail.A-mm is a mass-mailing virus that includes its own

The virus arrives in an attachment with a .zip extension, and

Hello there !
This is my very first post in this forum. I've read some best tech support site, and you guys are on the list ! So I'm really looking forward for your help

So apparently the wear level of my laptop battery is just getting higher and higher. In 3-5 days, the wear level usually increasing for 0.x% and I really don't want this thing happen. I check this wear level by using Battery Care.

I have done some surf in internet about batteries and stuffs and here is my habit with my battery and my laptop :

Since I'm a gamer and I need the best performance of my laptop, I rarely unplug my charger from my laptop while playing game, but I often unplug it (if the battery is full) if I'm not playing any game.
Reason : From what I've searched in internet, they said that it is okay (won't do any wear) to plug the charger into our laptop anytime, includes keeping it charged while the battery charge is 95% - 100% is okay. The battery is built-in so I can't unplug it when it reaches full capacity.

Sometimes, I play some games on this laptop while sitting on the bed. I know it's bad for our laptop somehow due to easily getting high temperature and bad air circulation.
Reason : I don't know whether it will harm the battery or not.

Sometimes, while I'm doing some works, I fell asleep so my laptop turns off due to lack of charge from the battery. Maybe setting the battery threshold to make it sleep will help ?

Hi

I'm hoping someone can find an answer to my vista problems. It's on a Compaq (HP) CQ60 laptop with Home Premium.

1. My low battery alerts don't work properly. I have it set to alert me of low battery at 12% ish and then hibernate at 7%. I have only ever seen the low alert once I think so it just hibernates with no warning. I get the low battery warning triangle on the battery tray icon but no pop ups. Also there is no 'Time Remaining' just a percentage but I think this is a problem that doesn't have a solution.

2. Occasionally my start bar (which I always have set to auto hide) stops hiding. It sits on top of the status bars of my programs and is really annoying. I can't seem to see any pttern to why/when it does it. Sometimes turning off auto hide and then turning it back on will fix it but this doesn't always work.

3. After resuming from sleep MSN/Windows Live won't work. It is still running but it logs me out and won't log back in. It's effectively a dead window that looks like it's running but no buttons work. Only way to get it back is kill it in task manager & restart it.

Hope someone can come up with some ideas?

Thanks a lot

Phil

i have critical battery sound set on my laptop to turn on at 10% and then 7% and shut the computer down at 5% if i do not do anything about it. problem is, sometimes i have the volume real low or off and dont hear it. is it possible (in windows, not an external program, although i will look to externals if not) to set the volume at a standard when the critical alarm goes off? in example, my laptop is at volume 2, then it hits critical level of 10% battery left, i want the computer to automatically bump up the volume to 20 or 30 depending on what i choose. kinda nit picky i know, but hell i know it can be done, if not in windows surely someone can recommend a good program. thanks to everyone who takes time to read and reply. -n00b

You would need a special program just for that function, that whenever it needs to report the battery condition it would also raise the volume level. I've never seen anything like that. Have you tried doing a google search?

My laptop dies if I am on the battery and the battery percent gets between 25-40% then it will just completely shut off. It never used to do this for the first 8 months i've owned it. Now it does it every time I'm on the battery. Any ideas?

also, right before this started happening I was getting GREAT battery life out of my battery, so I don't personally think the battery has gone bad, however you may feel different!

A:Laptop COMPLETELY dies before low battery level??

Batteries for laptops typically only last about 1 year before their capacity starts to dwindle. Since you are only 8 months old, I would call whomever made the laptop and see if they will warranty it for you. What you are describing is exactly what happens when the battery loses it's ability to hold a charge. From 40-0 in a flash.

Hello experts, I want to know why HP does not allow users to change the critical battery level in the power options to anything lower than 7%. I've checked many other manufacturers' laptops (ranging from Dell, Acer, Toshiba, Lenovo, Asus) and no other manufacturer locks this setting at such a high percentage.  The highest I found was 5% and most allowed you to change it lower (even down to zero in one instance). I even checked some of HP's other laptops and found that 7% seemed to be the norm, with one locked at a ridiculous 9%! It makes no sense why HP appears to rob us of precious battery life by forcing the computer to hibernate at 7%.  I am fully aware of the detriments to running a battery down to zero (and I don't want to run it down to zero), but why does HP feel the need to have such a large reserve of battery life when all other maufacturers seem fine with lower amounts?  Are HP's batteries somehow inferior? HP touts the Spectre x360 with up to an impressive 12 hour battery life.  I just want to be able to get the most out of my battery without HP forcing me to hibernate way before the battery level gets anywhere near danger levels. Will HP issue a BIOS update to the Spectre x360 (and indeed the rest of its range of laptops) to allow us to change the critical battery level to something more reasonable (say 3% minimum)?

Hi ddizzle ,  I understand the concern about the unit going to hibernate only at 7% , Its simply to save battery life , However i realise how frustrating that could be . however This option is infact customizable.   Go to Power options > Slect the power plan > Changed advanced power settings > Under that go to the battery section - it gives you options of what action to do when battery goes critcail - What is the percentage when the battery should be considered as critical  & the critical action aswell  Its totally customizable as per your needs    Hope this helps .

Hi EightForum,

I really hope you can answer this simply request.

Nowadays is pretty common to have a new Ultrabook, laptop or notebook for general purposes. A very important feature is to have a healthy battery. We all know that Lithium-batts do a terrific job and are more resistant than never, but after many years of experience, I've learnt that having a software like "Eco charge, Battery care, Smart charge...etc " is a clever and vital feature already present in major brands BUT HP, believe or not. I've just received a new Ultrabook Spectra x360 with windows 8.1, and so far I cannot find any special battery function for this request, even worst nobody can answer in their forum either; I really can't understand this flaw in HP. So, I'd like to know is there any reliable battery software that can allow me to keep the battery charge to 80% and no more, even connected to AC power.

I've seen several that keep info about battery and how to optimize but none with the simple function that I need.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

A:How can I set maximum level of battery charge for notebook

I honestly don't think it is possible to change what is built into the hardware and ACPI that ships with the computer. Would take a program that can access and change the settings in ACPI and this most likely would have to come from the manufacturer.

Hi,

I'm running Win 8.1 on a tablet with a dock that has a seperate battery and I'm having an issue where the docks battery will be completely used up and then will not charge unless i remove the tablet and jump start the battery in the dock so to speak.

I would like to be able to set a reserve battery level for the docks battery specifically but Windows seems to pool both batteries together while acknowledging them both as seperate.

Is it possible to seperate the batteries so I can have a reserve battery level for each one individually or is this a hardware issue?

I'm not real good with tablets, but the exact make and model would help us to research this.

My laptop is 2 years old and within the last 2 months, low battery notifications have stopped popping up, and the laptop shuts down without warning. Within the last week it has been shutting off after 10-20 minutes after I take the power chord out, and the battery never goes above 98% juice.  There's no error messages, and when I looked at the power options, it was set to turn off on 7%, as it has been since I bought it. I haven't updated anything on the laptop since then (it's a laptop purely for Word documents but occasionally I used it for streaming TV when my TV broke) and nothing else out of the ordinary has been happening to it.  I'm incredibly bad at figuring this sort of stuff out by myself, and Googlling it only gave me more confusion because it seems there could be a number of things wrong.  No troubleshooting seems to have helped or given an adequate reason for it, so I'm at a loss at the moment.

I have just purchased a new HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13 laptop last week with Windows 8.1 installed as the operating system. It is the first time I have owned anything with Windows 8.1.

Anyway, I am wanting to adjust the Critical Battery Level in Power Options to something lower than the default 7% that HP has set. When I try to change the number, it will not save and it just magically jumps back to 7%. This means that my laptop will hibernate when the battery level reaches 7% and I cannot turn it back on unless I plug it into AC power. 7% equates to roughly 40 minutes of battery time and I find this setting way too conservative.

I have done some research on this issue and have found the following:
Some suggest that PC manufacturers will somehow lock this setting to an arbitrary minimum and the user cannot change it to anything below this minimum (it appears HP have set it at 7% in my instance). This link suggests using power.cfg and the command line to make the changes How To Lower the Critical Battery Level to 1% in Windows 7

Steps I have taken to try and resolve this:
I have tried the powercfg.exe method described in the aforementioned link to change the critical battery level to 1% and initially it appears to work. When I open up the Power Options screen, it indeed says 1%. However, when I actually test it out by using the laptop, it will still automatically hibernate at 7% battery level - it simply ignores the 1% setting.
I have also tried using powerc... Read more

A:Cannot lower Critical Battery Level in Power Options

That is because it is coded into Windows to not allow anything lower. Also if you drain the battery all of the way, it ends up causing the battery to have a shorter life span, and less available time on battery. They make add on batteries, that act like a lap pad.

Hello,

Thanks for visiting this thread and any advice you have.

The Laptop this is in regards to is a TOSHIBA A205-S7468 (not the C855 of my specs).

I'm finishing a few upgrades on this older, backup of mine (replaced screen, RAM upgrade, clean up) and the battery was in need of replacement. So, I purchased a new replacement on Ebay (I know, right) and it is working ok, but there has been a few red flags.

There was a brief episode with battery level and charge status, but I seemed to correct it by following some instructions on other threads here. It's now stable and 100%, HOWEVER, it reports it has 25% wear level and will only charge to 100% using 75% of it's capacity.

I've uninstalled (and then scanned for hardware changes) the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery Driver (this seemed to straighten out battery level/charge status flags). Checked and made small recommended changes to power saving option (critical level, etc...). Drained it completely and recharged fully (per instructions).

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or advice as to why a new battery would be limited to 75% capacity (and be 100% fully charged)??

I use CPU-ID HW Monitor to monitor my laptop temperature and Battery Capacity. Since my earlier factory supplied Battery worn out. I bought a new battery from my nearby market. On First Day it showed 4% wear level. I didnt care much as its too less. I has been a week now. When I checked My Battery Status Today it shows wear level of 42%.I have DELL XPS 15 L502x. Is there a way to reduce the wear level. I am just surfing internet with this laptop. Yesterday I played EuroTruck Simulator 2 for Two hours keeping the Laptop on AC Supply.

A:Battery wear level reached 42% in just one week. Am I cheated?

Replacement batteries may be different quality. Not all batteries are equal. The "local" battery you purchased sounds like an inferior battery.
