Q: The time has come for fttc (verizon has finally done it)

Up to 5 Mbps/2 Mbps
FREE $39.99

Up to 15 Mbps/2 Mbps
FREE $49.99

Up to 30 Mbps/5 Mbps
FREE $179.95

i just wish it was in my home town.

finally real choice and the power to actually host a web server at home for 50 bux a month... (with real upload power)

woo hoo!!!

In the future im assuming cable companies will be left in the dust.. coax bandwidth is no match for fiber. (48Mbps vs 10Gbps)

Ive read they stream dish network tv through this fiber too. (competition is good)

I predict.. comcast and time warner will have to upgrade to fttc as well... if not.. sayonara.

and no.. i dont work for verizon.... Im just happy to see it.

Preferred Solution: The time has come for fttc (verizon has finally done it)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: The time has come for fttc (verizon has finally done it)

I've been enjoying FiOS 15mbit/2mbit service here for a few months. It really leaves Comcast in the dust, and the reliability has been perfect so far.

I just wish that they had priced the 30mbit/5mbit service a bit more reasonably, I'd love to have 5mbit uploads.

Looking at my spec's will show everything but my router, which is from my ISP (Plusnet, a cheaper subsidiary of BT -British Telecom.) It is a Technicolor TG582n and would be OK if it was Gigabit Lan, unfortunately it is 10/100. I have my desktop computer in another room, away from the router, connected by a 30M. Ethernet cable,(in the loft of my bungalow) networked with the laptop and a Zyxel 210 NAS which carries and streams all my photos, videos and data, plus backups. The desktop has a Freeview TV tuner and I would like to be able to stream video/recorded TV from this to other parts of the network, eventually to the lounge TV in the same room as the router.

The bottleneck is the current router and I would like to replace it, but am unsure of what to get. How does this look? - TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a tiny URL - bearing in mind that my line is a FTTC line. speeds as attached pic, not great but stable and I live in a rural location.

I like TP Link stuff, it seems to be a good mix of quality and value, my son has his house networked for 3 PC's via a TP router and a TP range extender.

Thanks for any replies.

A:Choosing FTTC router

That router should do the job just fine i believe. Its a dual band router so it should be more than adequate for what you need as a lot of isp's dont even have close to the top speeds that a router like this one can get(not yet but not too far off Im sure). So if you went with this one you should be good to go.

Hello all,
I'm in the research stage of building a computer. I have a few questions that I have not been able to find formerly addressed in this forum.

I'm leaning towards an AMD processor. Would a 64 bit be the way to go? Will my current software work with it? I'd like to be able to upgrade this along the way: add a video card, sound card, TV tuner, the kitchen sink. Obsolete is one thing, being trapped with old technology that can't be upgraded is another thing entirely.

I use the computer mostly for internet and some digital imagery. I don't do any gaming, but my kids do. (translation: in order to keep my kids off my computer, I don't want it souped up for gaming. they can buy their own!!)

I am currently using windows xp-sp2, an upgraded version from win 98. Should I budget for a new xp instead of installing 98, then upgrading? I think I know the answer, but I was just wondering if I could save a few bucks to spend on something a little more fun!!

Hey people, Norton is REALLY slowing down my computer. There is SIX (Yes, SIX.) OH WAIT, SEVEN. Svchost.exe processes running at the SAME time. A total of 48,628 K of my memory usage!!! Just from those 6 svchost.exe processes. 59,012 K TOTAL. Now, with FireFox running, I have 316M/1226M Commit Charge! The svchost.exe processes sometimes some get to like 50 CPU. This is totally ridicules. (If I spelled that right.) Only having 512MB of ram, I quite frankly don't like it at all. Well, a MAX of 2gb ram which I am thinking of getting. Only $40 because this computer is crap. No PCI-Ex 16 slots. NONE. Just x1. Oh well , I think I'm giving up on Norton.

A:Well, finally time to delete Norton?

Hey everyone. I've got a weird problem I am trying to get to the bottom of once and for all. I'm using an ASUS G60JX laptop w/ Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I've got 6gb of RAM, NVIDIA GTS360M GPU and a intel core i7 processor. (1.something ghz) Basically, the laptop will freeze at weird times. The freeze is a hard freeze, you cant get out of it. There is no blue screen of death to go with it. For example, I could have Chrome open (A few tabs) and then go to start a program like Audacity, and all of a sudden, the computer just freezes. And im forced to do a hard shutdown. I believe it's safe to say this tends to happen when I'm multi-tasking. I dont recall it ever happening when not running multiple things at once. HOWEVER this problem has more to it than just that... I've had this laptop for 1.5 years now. During that time, this problem has come and gone. It has also come in a different form, where while playing any type of flash thing, the computer would freeze BUT, after waiting for a while, it would come back... which was really weird. Everything has been absolutely dandy the past 2-3 months. However, last night I decided to re install my OS, because I wanted to start back from a clean state. Everything went fine, and I've updated my computer completely. BUT now the freezing is back, in the original form of being a hard freeze, forcing me to shut down completely. I know my CPU isn't overheating in this circumstance, although it does run ho... Read more

Q: finally

It's shocking that it took this long, but someone has finally made a rogue that uses the Microsoft name. MicrosoftAntivirus is a rogue AntiVirus application (a fake) that mimics the OneCare interface. If you get infected with MicrosoftAntivirus you can remove it any of the applications listed below:

Malwarebytes Antimalware
Spyware Doctor

Yea, it is pretty shocking considering rogue has taken about every possible antivirus name related to windows imaginable.Either way this is just another fake antivirus to look out for, thanks for the heads up and removal details.

I think I have solved this - but I still would love to know... was my personal info ever at risk? Is this just basically a pop up hoax to get you to buy software or was it someone actually trying to tap into my personal info. I do all my banking online. Or is there a way to know this? And should I reinstall Norton? I have seen posts where people have to reinstall. I have Norton 360 (inc firewall), and Spyware Dr through Google pack, I use firefox and also have a desktop link to yahoo to access my husbands remote access to his office network. Am I safe? I want to post this because it may help someone else and I would love an expert opinon. I posted a hijack log a while back and I never got a response, I know how busy you guys are. So, after running Adaware I found a trojan, and deleted it and then found 2 rootkit with Spybot that kept returning (until I killed them with AVG rootkit killer). Then I was finding NOTHING through Combofix, Spybot, etc.. I must have ran 10 different spy, mal and ad and virus programs. And nothing was coming up, BUT, I still had the pop ups. So it seemed right to post not only for problems but also to say thank you: today I personally can state I am happy of XPS 15 and WD-15. It was not easy to arrive here but finally I have nothing to complain and all the problems I have found are solved.
Thank you Dell and engineers!

After over 2years of chasing an issue that no one seems to see. I think they are finally getting somewhere. What do you do now if this is your problem. Read this: http://arstechnica.com/security/2014/07/this-thumbdrive-hacks-computers-badusb-exploit-makes-devices-turn-evil/

Dubbed BadUSB, the hack reprograms embedded firmware to give USB devices new, covert capabilities...BadUSB-corrupted devices are much harder to disinfect. Reformatting an infected USB stick, for example, will do nothing to remove the malicious programming. Because the tampering resides in the firmware, the malware can be eliminated only by replacing the booby-trapped device software with the original firmware. Given the possibility that traditional computer malware could be programmed to use BadUSB techniques to infect any attached devices, the attack could change the entire regimen currently used to respond to computer compromises.

After years of safe computing, I slipped up and ran something I shouldn't, so now I need your help. I've read the instructions, and hopefully I have this right.

Last Tuesday I noticed some odd delays, and then fairly obviously fake warnings about disk damage appeared, and a program calling itself "HDD something-or-other" appeared saying it was doing a scan and I needed to buy the full version, etc. I tried to remove it and have fumbled around for a couple of days. (Sorry; I know that may complicate things; I'd have come here first if I'd known about it at the time.) I tried to install Prevx, but the installer just hung. AVG installed, and so did ZoneAlarm, but, using DuMeter I still see connections to various random hosts popping up from "srvhost" and WININET.DLL, and now Firefox. I was using IE8, but it stopped working; won't launch even with -extoff. Everynow and then I get a message about a process crashing, and I get pop-ups from FireFox.

I'm not sure what else to tell you without wasting your time, so let me know what else you need. I'm appending the dds.txt and have the Attach.txt and ark.txt ready.

I'll subscribe to the thread.

Hi all, this is my first post on the forum, but i've been reading with interest for some time befoere jumping in!

I'm ready to do a clean install, so i'd like to ask,

So, how many people on here are running Windows 7 Beta as their main OS now?

Do you have Vista installed as a backup, or are you so confident in the new OS, that apart from a few teething problems which are communicated through feedback you feel that it's stable enough to run as a main OS?

A:Hi, how many of you have finally done it?

Hi saverio and welcome to the Forums,

I am dual booting with Vista ussing seperate HDD's and using Windows 7 as my main operating system and to tell you the truth, the more you use Windows 7 the less you will whant to use Vista and the older it feels and if you are coming from XP I think you would just be amazed at all the great features and inovations, just make sure you have all your updated drivers ready and you should be good to go.

If you do run into any problems you know where to go, good luck

Those files pertain to Wild Tangent. Go to Control Panel - Add/Remove programs and try to remove Wild Tangent from there. I don't think it will let you but try anyway.

If not, here's a tip I learned from Mobo.

Do a windows search for the file extension .cpl
When the list compiles look for Wild Tangent then remove it.

For those upgrading and totally unwilling to manually reload files like favorites.
These can be exported from your old computer using the import/export option under the files tab. For users running 98 or similar, Exporting your favorites file will require you to create a file known as Bookmark.htm. Import/Export has a wizard that will set it up for you and park the file in My Documents for you to subsequently burn to disk. A tip, tho, when you go to burn that file to disc it may not appear in your list of documents. To remedy the problem go into My Computer/My Documents and locate the .htm file Once you find it create a empty folder titled "Bookmarks" or similar and then drag/drop the .htm file into it. When you return back to the burn program for your CDs and use the locator to find what you want--that file will appear and you can then go about the task of burning it to disk. In IE 8 the help guide will explain what you need to do to import it. Be aware that in older editions of IE you can likely export the Bookmark file without being online. IE8 needs to be connected before it will allow you to import the Bookmark folder. There is probably a way around this but playing by 8's rules seemed to produce the required results so....
You can do the same thing for your e-mail addresses by creating a folder for them and copying them into it. Do the folder by itself so all you have is t... Read more

I help out friends with virus problems and usually can get them back going clean, but this one is beating me. I've run Eset, Malwarebytes, House Call, and Dr. Web CureIt, all after running RKill. Right now it's showing clean (after having found a number of things) but it still won't run ComboFix (which I know I shouldn't run without guidance, my apologies) which tells me that something is still on here.

I ran RootRepeal (attached log) and GMER (attached log), but I don't know enough to know what I am looking at. Help.

A:Finally asking for help

Hello, LightningManWelcome to the Bleeping Computer Forums. My name is Thomas (Tom is fine), and I will be helping you fixing your problems. If you do not make a reply in 4-5 days, we will have to close your topic. Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools. Doing so could cause changes to the directions I have to give you and prolong the time required. Further more, you should not be taking any advice relating to this computer from any other source throughout the course of this fix.If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.Even if things appear to be better, it might not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions and reply back until I give you the "all clean". We do not want to clean you part-way, only to have the system re-infect itself. Please reply using the button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic. The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply. Only attach them if requested or if they do not fit into the post.Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's ... Read more

we have a requirement to get the following data through code (c# or c++)

Boot Time - After powering on the device, the boot duration is the time between the start of the OS kernel and the launch of the logon screen.

Logon Time - The time between user enter credentials and the desktop being shown.

Start up Time ?  The time between user authentication, all startup apps loading and the device being ?ready?

Can i use WMI to get this or are there other options?

I've spent most of the night and morning trying to clean my PC after discovering some real nasties such as

MS Juan

Using Spyware Doctor, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Combofix to clean up I have now ran an HJT and the log is posted below.

Could you please check to see if I am now safe or there are still traces left? Since I have done this I tried to insert a new host file to block access to many sites which had been classed as a risk, the method required me to create a shortcut but I noticed I now can't create shortcuts by selecting right-click then new and also all my icons at when viewed at the 'Large Icons' size (vista ultimate) dont show unless I cycle through the various icon sizes and eventually choosing 'Large Icons' size again, they blink and then eventually some show correctly... is this related to anything or an indication of continued problems?

After 4 lockups I finally get a BSOD, I have already posted the previous lockups without reponses (except mine), so here I added the info requested to this BSOD.

Windows 7 x64
sample 30 day activate, today last day.
system is all new, about a 2 months old.

I have two 4 bay drive enclosures, Rosewill brand non raid all filled up, with an external USB 3.0 drive also

I have added the Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 folder, the system health folder, and the dump file. I am going to re install the OS but I would like to find out if this is a hardware issue.

A:BSOD finally!

Is there a reason as to why I am not getting helped?

For the last 2 days MSE has not been finding any new updates. That should not be. Their is no way the bad guys took 2 days off.
It was stuck on

I just starting working again and finds the new update quickly. (

I would suggest those that have MSE on auto update do a manual check to get caught up on the new updates.

It seem like Windows 7 Updates also Searches quicker than it has been doing for the last few months.

Hopefully Microsoft has been fixing things.

A:MSE has finally woke up.

Yes Jack had the same problem setting up MSE for friends too the updates seem to get half way then fall into some sort of black hole never to be seen again and it has been going on for soem time outhere.

well, I finally got the new version of the weather app. pretty snazzy to have that live updating... something neat about seeing the clouds move across the map.

A:new Weather app finally out...

Is that what the update was about, that app just keeps getting better. Screenshot of the clouds.

The Weather Channel has another good app for this.

So while booting up a usual game I play, my HD gives a loud click, revs down, then revs back up to another click. It does this about 6 times before I get a blue screen. (I'll be sure to write down the error codes next time it happens) Is this a sign that the HD is starting to fail?

A:HD finally dying?

you are getting the click of death its a matter of time before it breaks...

As a one time lover of Avast, it disappointed me when this once excellent software began to slide in detection and have problems. (Blue screens, incomplete uninstalls, bloat, and the list goes on) The latest version looks promising. Just wondered what others thought about the new version. I'm not putting Avast down in any way. But reading posts here and in the Avast forum over the past year or so, indicates what I've said is true. Thanks.

A:Is it OK to finally use Avast again?

Tried it last week on my gf's pc.Still buggy as hell. You should visit theyr forums and see what I'm talking about.Feels like the team behind avast has no idea what they are doing lately.

OK, you've all seen the commercials.....advertised mostly late at night or early morning for Finallyfast.com.

I've read conflicting stories that this is a scam to install malware on your PC while charging something like 30 bucks to just delete your cookies. Anyone have any words of wisdom to share?

When you're in front of your PC, waiting for something to transfer to removable media, that's when seconds feel like minutes, and minutes feel like hours. And data storage scenarios such as that one is where the new SuperSpeed USB 3.0's greatest impact will be felt first. As of CES, 17 SuperSpeed USB 3.0-certified products were introduced, including host controllers, adapter cards, motherboards, and hard drives (but no other consumer electronics devices). Still more uncertified USB 3.0 products are on the way, and they can't get here fast enough.
