The time has come for fttc (verizon has finally done it)

Q: The time has come for fttc (verizon has finally done it)

Up to 5 Mbps/2 Mbps
FREE $39.99

Up to 15 Mbps/2 Mbps
FREE $49.99

Up to 30 Mbps/5 Mbps
FREE $179.95

i just wish it was in my home town.

finally real choice and the power to actually host a web server at home for 50 bux a month... (with real upload power)

woo hoo!!!

In the future im assuming cable companies will be left in the dust.. coax bandwidth is no match for fiber. (48Mbps vs 10Gbps)

Ive read they stream dish network tv through this fiber too. (competition is good)

I predict.. comcast and time warner will have to upgrade to fttc as well... if not.. sayonara.

and no.. i dont work for verizon.... Im just happy to see it.

Preferred Solution: The time has come for fttc (verizon has finally done it)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: The time has come for fttc (verizon has finally done it)

I've been enjoying FiOS 15mbit/2mbit service here for a few months. It really leaves Comcast in the dust, and the reliability has been perfect so far.

I just wish that they had priced the 30mbit/5mbit service a bit more reasonably, I'd love to have 5mbit uploads.

Looking at my spec's will show everything but my router, which is from my ISP (Plusnet, a cheaper subsidiary of BT -British Telecom.) It is a Technicolor TG582n and would be OK if it was Gigabit Lan, unfortunately it is 10/100. I have my desktop computer in another room, away from the router, connected by a 30M. Ethernet cable,(in the loft of my bungalow) networked with the laptop and a Zyxel 210 NAS which carries and streams all my photos, videos and data, plus backups. The desktop has a Freeview TV tuner and I would like to be able to stream video/recorded TV from this to other parts of the network, eventually to the lounge TV in the same room as the router.

The bottleneck is the current router and I would like to replace it, but am unsure of what to get. How does this look? - TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a tiny URL - bearing in mind that my line is a FTTC line. speeds as attached pic, not great but stable and I live in a rural location.

I like TP Link stuff, it seems to be a good mix of quality and value, my son has his house networked for 3 PC's via a TP router and a TP range extender.

Thanks for any replies.

A:Choosing FTTC router

That router should do the job just fine i believe. Its a dual band router so it should be more than adequate for what you need as a lot of isp's dont even have close to the top speeds that a router like this one can get(not yet but not too far off Im sure). So if you went with this one you should be good to go.

Hello all,
I'm in the research stage of building a computer. I have a few questions that I have not been able to find formerly addressed in this forum.

I'm leaning towards an AMD processor. Would a 64 bit be the way to go? Will my current software work with it? I'd like to be able to upgrade this along the way: add a video card, sound card, TV tuner, the kitchen sink. Obsolete is one thing, being trapped with old technology that can't be upgraded is another thing entirely.

I use the computer mostly for internet and some digital imagery. I don't do any gaming, but my kids do. (translation: in order to keep my kids off my computer, I don't want it souped up for gaming. they can buy their own!!)

I am currently using windows xp-sp2, an upgraded version from win 98. Should I budget for a new xp instead of installing 98, then upgrading? I think I know the answer, but I was just wondering if I could save a few bucks to spend on something a little more fun!!

Hey people, Norton is REALLY slowing down my computer. There is SIX (Yes, SIX.) OH WAIT, SEVEN. Svchost.exe processes running at the SAME time. A total of 48,628 K of my memory usage!!! Just from those 6 svchost.exe processes. 59,012 K TOTAL. Now, with FireFox running, I have 316M/1226M Commit Charge! The svchost.exe processes sometimes some get to like 50 CPU. This is totally ridicules. (If I spelled that right.) Only having 512MB of ram, I quite frankly don't like it at all. Well, a MAX of 2gb ram which I am thinking of getting. Only $40 because this computer is crap. No PCI-Ex 16 slots. NONE. Just x1. Oh well , I think I'm giving up on Norton.

Hey everyone. I've got a weird problem I am trying to get to the bottom of once and for all. I'm using an ASUS G60JX laptop w/ Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I've got 6gb of RAM, NVIDIA GTS360M GPU and a intel core i7 processor. (1.something ghz) Basically, the laptop will freeze at weird times. The freeze is a hard freeze, you cant get out of it. There is no blue screen of death to go with it. For example, I could have Chrome open (A few tabs) and then go to start a program like Audacity, and all of a sudden, the computer just freezes. And im forced to do a hard shutdown. I believe it's safe to say this tends to happen when I'm multi-tasking. I dont recall it ever happening when not running multiple things at once. HOWEVER this problem has more to it than just that... I've had this laptop for 1.5 years now. During that time, this problem has come and gone. It has also come in a different form, where while playing any type of flash thing, the computer would freeze BUT, after waiting for a while, it would come back... which was really weird. Everything has been absolutely dandy the past 2-3 months. However, last night I decided to re install my OS, because I wanted to start back from a clean state. Everything went fine, and I've updated my computer completely. BUT now the freezing is back, in the original form of being a hard freeze, forcing me to shut down completely. I know my CPU isn't overheating in this circumstance, although it does run ho... Read more

I help out friends with virus problems and usually can get them back going clean, but this one is beating me. I've run Eset, Malwarebytes, House Call, and Dr. Web CureIt, all after running RKill. Right now it's showing clean (after having found a number of things) but it still won't run ComboFix (which I know I shouldn't run without guidance, my apologies) which tells me that something is still on here.

I ran RootRepeal (attached log) and GMER (attached log), but I don't know enough to know what I am looking at. Help.

Hello, LightningManWelcome to the Bleeping Computer Forums. My name is Thomas (Tom is fine), and I will be helping you fixing your problems. If you do not make a reply in 4-5 days, we will have to close your topic. Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools. Further more, you should not be taking any advice relating to this computer from any other source throughout the course of this fix.If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. Hi all, this is my first post on the forum, but i've been reading with interest for some time befoere jumping in!

I'm ready to do a clean install, so i'd like to ask,

So, how many people on here are running Windows 7 Beta as their main OS now?

Do you have Vista installed as a backup, or are you so confident in the new OS, that apart from a few teething problems which are communicated through feedback you feel that it's stable enough to run as a main OS?

A:Hi, how many of you have finally done it?

Hi saverio and welcome to the Forums,

I am dual booting with Vista ussing seperate HDD's and using Windows 7 as my main operating system and to tell you the truth, the more you use Windows 7 the less you will whant to use Vista and the older it feels and if you are coming from XP I think you would just be amazed at all the great features and inovations, just make sure you have all your updated drivers ready and you should be good to go.

If you do run into any problems you know where to go, good luck

Those files pertain to Wild Tangent. Go to Control Panel - Add/Remove programs and try to remove Wild Tangent from there. I don't think it will let you but try anyway.

If not, here's a tip I learned from Mobo.

Do a windows search for the file extension .cpl
When the list compiles look for Wild Tangent then remove it.

System: Intel Core 2 with 500GB HD and 7&7; that is Windows 7 with Office 07.

For those upgrading and totally unwilling to manually reload files like favorites.
These can be exported from your old computer using the import/export option under the files tab. For users running 98 or similar, Exporting your favorites file will require you to create a file known as Bookmark.htm. Import/Export has a wizard that will set it up for you and park the file in My Documents for you to subsequently burn to disk. A tip, tho, when you go to burn that file to disc it may not appear in your list of documents. To remedy the problem go into My Computer/My Documents and locate the .htm file Once you find it create a empty folder titled "Bookmarks" or similar and then drag/drop the .htm file into it. When you return back to the burn program for your CDs and use the locator to find what you want--that file will appear and you can then go about the task of burning it to disk. In IE 8 the help guide will explain what you need to do to import it. Be aware that in older editions of IE you can likely export the Bookmark file without being online. IE8 needs to be connected before it will allow you to import the Bookmark folder. There is probably a way around this but playing by 8's rules seemed to produce the required results so....
You can do the same thing for your e-mail addresses by creating a folder for them and copying them into it. Do the folder by itself so all you have is t... Read more

After over 2years of chasing an issue that no one seems to see. I think they are finally getting somewhere. What do you do now if this is your problem. Read this: http://arstechnica.com/security/2014/07/this-thumbdrive-hacks-computers-badusb-exploit-makes-devices-turn-evil/

Dubbed BadUSB, the hack reprograms embedded firmware to give USB devices new, covert capabilities...BadUSB-corrupted devices are much harder to disinfect. Reformatting an infected USB stick, for example, will do nothing to remove the malicious programming. Because the tampering resides in the firmware, the malware can be eliminated only by replacing the booby-trapped device software with the original firmware. Given the possibility that traditional computer malware could be programmed to use BadUSB techniques to infect any attached devices, the attack could change the entire regimen currently used to respond to computer compromises.

After years of safe computing, I slipped up and ran something I shouldn't, so now I need your help. I've read the instructions, and hopefully I have this right.

Last Tuesday I noticed some odd delays, and then fairly obviously fake warnings about disk damage appeared, and a program calling itself "HDD something-or-other" appeared saying it was doing a scan and I needed to buy the full version, etc. I tried to remove it and have fumbled around for a couple of days. (Sorry; I know that may complicate things; I'd have come here first if I'd known about it at the time.) I tried to install Prevx, but the installer just hung. AVG installed, and so did ZoneAlarm, but, using DuMeter I still see connections to various random hosts popping up from "srvhost" and WININET.DLL, and now Firefox. I was using IE8, but it stopped working; won't launch even with -extoff. Everynow and then I get a message about a process crashing, and I get pop-ups from FireFox.

I'm not sure what else to tell you without wasting your time, so let me know what else you need. I'm appending the dds.txt and have the Attach.txt and ark.txt ready.

I'll subscribe to the thread.

Q: finally

It's shocking that it took this long, but someone has finally made a rogue that uses the Microsoft name. MicrosoftAntivirus is a rogue AntiVirus application (a fake) that mimics the OneCare interface. If you get infected with MicrosoftAntivirus you can remove it any of the applications listed below:

Malwarebytes Antimalware
Spyware Doctor
- matt with remove-malware.com -

Yea, it is pretty shocking considering rogue has taken about every possible antivirus name related to windows imaginable.Either way this is just another fake antivirus to look out for, thanks for the heads up and removal details.

Hi everyone. A few days ago I started a thread and did not get any replies. Since then I've found something that could help us fix the issue. The thread i made wrote:

" I am running XP SP2 on an Apple Macbook pro. Everything had been fine up until a couple weeks ago when my internetbrowser began unexpectedly closing. I noticed the browser (Internet Explorer and Safari for Windows) would close on sites such as http://security2.comcast.net/get-hel...?cid=NET_33_49 , - this site is Comcast's McAfee freescan.( Whatever this site activates or runs causes the browser to close). I tried going to this site after experiencing this to see if I had a virus or spyware that was causing the issue but I can't open this site on this computer. Navigating from Comcast's homepage then to the Security page, and then clicking on "Check Your Computer" would just cause the browser to close with no message. I am able to go to the check you computer link on my other computers.

I searched the net for this issue and most of the people who were experiencing the browser closing unexpectedly had a java issue. I uninstalled java and reinstalled it and still no help. I also disabled it in the browser settings. I also uninstalled and reinstalled both browsers. I have also purchased spyware doc with virus scan and firewall and although it found a few low-level spyware, it didn't fix my problem.

I assumed it was related to the internet applications and I found that p... Read more

Please help...I am new at this. I've had a search engine hijacker that directed me to other sites when I clicked on my search results. after fighting with my XP upgrade install last night for about 4 hours, giving up and going to bed (non ACPI compliant crap and assorted other fun things) i FINALLY got XP setup today.

thanks to forums like this you learn little "secrets" of what and what NOT to do. you know...the F6/F7 tricks, the "do NOT hit enter" when it asks if you want to boot from disk, etc, all that "good" stuff.

i had to update a few drivers, and re-download and install AVG and ZoneAlarm, but after checking everything all seems to be working well.

but i'll tell you one thing...for people who may be trying to install and don't know about seeking the help of some forums it could be a REAL excruciating ordeal. it was bad enough but it's working fine now...so far.

i'm sure if i run into any problems i'll be posting here fer sure!! this is a great place for help and opinions. thanks to everyone here.

Hello dandilion, I am SifuMike and I will be helping you. Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Kaspersky Labs Blog: Finally, Our Own OS ? Oh Yes! | Nota Bene: Eugene Kaspersky's Official Blog

At last ? we?ve done it!

I?ve anticipated this day for ages ? the day when the first commercially available mass market hardware device based our own secure operating system landed on my desk. And here she is, the beaut.

This unassuming black box is a protected layer 3 switch powered by Kaspersky OS and designed for networks with extreme requirements for data security.

And there?s plenty more in the pipeline where this came from too, meaning the tech will be applied in other Internet-connected bits of kit, aka the Internet of Things (IoT). Why? Because this OS just so happens to be ideal for applications where a small, optimized and secure platform is required.

The operating system boasts several distinctive features. Let me run through the main ones briefly?

First, it?s based on microkernel architecture, which allows to assemble ?from blocks? different modifications of the operating system depending on a customer?s specific requirements.

Second, there?s its built-in security system, which controls the behavior of applications and the OS?s modules. In order to hack this platform a cyber-baddie would need to break the digital signature, which ? any time before the introduction of quantum computers ? would be exorbitantly expensive.

Third, everything has been built from scratch. Anticipating your questions: not even the slightest smell of... Read more

I have finally it seems got XP 64 on my machine with all the drivers I need. This has been an ongoing problem for over a month.

I still don't have my mouse driver for my MX 510 but the native windows drivers are doing fine. I am also running on a beta from Nvidia that I got from www.guru3d.com but my machine is working 100%.

I am going to post a link to a good driver resource and call it a post. Go to http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/DevelopWithAMD/0,,30_2252_869_875^10454,00.html?redir=IEGFC07

There are drivers from "most" major companies listed here. I have had a bunch of grief but my games all play, I have sound, my screen looks good.

It would not boot in normal, safe, or last known. I inserted the CD and did a recovery install. I had to restart my computer yesterday due to an anti-virus software update. Ever since, my computer will not load past the desktop image. I have tried restarting it multiple times. I'm able to log onto my account, but my toolbar and icons will not load, and I can only open the task manager about half the times I've tried.

I wasn't doing anything at all unusual before the first restart. Facebook and Google, running Mozilla Firefox, with a couple Notepad files open. All of which were closed before I clicked "restart."

I don't know what's going on, and I have no idea where to begin fixing it.

I'm on a crappy, 3-year-old Compaq mini-tower, with an Intel Atom processor, running Windows XP. This is all I know off the top of my head, and due to the nature of my problem, I can't find more now.

Thank you, in advance, for your time.
