Q: Norton Internet Security 2012 expires soon...

I got a new copy of NIS 2012 for free after a rebate. Do I need to uninstall my current and install my new copy? Or is there a way I can just enter my new product key?
Thanks

Preferred Solution: Norton Internet Security 2012 expires soon...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Love Norton myself.

2012 has been perfectly fine for me, up untill a couple weeks ago. Something in one of the patches done something different.

Mind you, its nothing bad like BSODS or errors etc.

basically, I just noticed things taking longer than normal.
For example, after a cold boot, gadgets (Nortons included) took longer to open than they should.
Downloads were taking longer to scan and give Insight Reports. Some programs took way too long to open when trying to install (from a .exe)
Soemtimes, opening a folder like My Documents took a second to show.

As I mentioned, this didn't strat until recently.
At any count, I rolled back to 2011 and all is well again.

ATM, from what Ive seen, 2012 has a few minor annoyances but they should be fixed soon, but Ive not noticed anything major.

I only say that because went through it with 2011 shortly after release. It was all fixed, and was back to normal after a couple updates.

Still one of the best Inetrnet Security Suites IMHO.
If you have a subscription, you should be able to install any version you choose.

For right now, I would just stick with 2011.Its rock solid.

Do I have to uninstall this "complimentary" copy of Norton through add/remove programs and then install the cd with it? Can the cd just be installed over this program without first deleting the "complimentary"? I just need to know the right thing to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Dee.My Norton subscription expires in a couple weeks and i'm considering switching to a free antivirus program that can be found online, like AVG, BitDefender or Avast. is this a bad idea? will i be compromising my laptop's security? any feedback would be greatly appreciated. In what terms or why do you think it may be compromising your laptop's security by switching to a different anti-virus software? I'm not being mean or anything I'm just asking as to know what you think and why?My response would be No. Switching anti-virus softwares doesn't compromise your security at all. In fact, it doesn't alter with the security. There are different anti-virus softwares out there that have different "signatures" or their own definition of what they think/believe is "bad" or malicious and is why some anti-virus softwares detect certain things and some don't. Doesn't mean one is worse than another. Switching anti-virus softwares is never a bad thing but you should always have one installed at a time and before uninstalling your old one you should download the new one first on to your computer before you uninstall your old one. You should also dis-connect from the internet after you uninstalled your old one. Not saying that you'll be infected immediately after you have no anti-virus protection but it's good and safe practice. Some good free anti-virus softwares I recommend are:An anti-virus is essential in keeping your computer safe while surfing the Internet. I currently have Norton Systemworks 2002 (with Cleansweep, Ghost, WinDoctor, etc)... last week, my tech support at Gateway suggested that I could improve online performance by *upgrading* to Norton Internet Security 2004.

Today I rec'd the box in the mail, and the first thing I noticed was that the 2004 software doesn't include any of those handy-dandy utilities I want those!!!

Gateway says to go ahead and un-install the 2002 software, then install the new 2004 software to *see if the utilities might be on there anyway*...

I smell computer havoc ahead.... help

A:Replace Norton Systemworks 2002 with Norton Internet Security 2004?

Those 2 programs are not the same. Nortons Systemwork is all the system tools for defragging, scanning registry, etc. Along with anti-virus and such.

Nortons Internet security is a Firewall, and not a good one at that. If they sent you just internet security, then it's only the firewall. What it sounds like you need/want is Nortons Systemworks 2004.

Well, about a month ago, I switched from Norton anti-virus, which came with the computer to Norton Internet Security,(which also comes with a firewall), I am finding it seems, anyway to be a lot better. It covers a lot more bases, especially with protection while online. It updates alot more than anti-virus did and the only security problems I find during scans are cookies.
I am thankful for this site, it is helpful. I am a music blogger and always was able to use a work computer. Any thoughts on Facebook and keeping safe?Social networking sites (MySpace, YouTube, Facebook) can be a significant security risk which could make your computer susceptible to malware infection. As with gaming sites, users visiting MySpace, YouTube, Facebook...are exposed to innocuous-looking banner ads containing code which can trigger pop-up ads and malicious Flash ads that install viruses, Trojans and spyware. Ads are a target for hackers because they offer a stealthy way to distribute malware to a wide range of Internet users. Hi everybody,
Does anyone know how "Norton Anti Spam 2005" handles incoming Emails and how it sorts them out in category "Spam or Not"?
Problem is, if I send emails to some friends of mine (11 all together), 6 of the 11 emails, (they are all using "Norton AntiSpam 2005", too) go straight to the ďNorton ANTISPAM Folder), without asking the single User if this is spam or not, and get sorted out.
They havenít generated a rule or anything like it either. What means, those settings have to be standard settings by Norton.
It also doesnít matter if I send an attachment, like a pic or a file or even simple plain text. My Emails are sorted out right away after they are fetched from the Mailserver.

PS: Iím not a spammer, so Norton canít have me on a blacklist or anything like it. Has anyone any idea what to do in a case like this?

Thanks a lot

Yesterday I received a couple of notices that mcafee had removed a trojan from my computer. A short time later I get a pop up about WIN 7 INTERNET SECURITY 2012 and how its found all kinds of virus's and that I should purchase the full program to vanquish the problems. I have seen similar malware before. I rebooted into safe mode used. I used rkill, it seemed to take away but it didn't kill any processes according to its report. I then ran malwarebytes, it removed a dozen or so files at the completion of the scan. After that was all said and done I rebooted my computer and it seemed to work properly(although a bit slower than usual). Later I got a couple of more notices about mcafee removing a trojan from my computer, then mcafee popped up and told me my computer was at risk, I checked it out and my firewall and real-time scanning were turned off. I re-enabled them and it they stayed on for a couple of seconds and turned off again with out any input from me. I got onto bleepingcomputer.com for a little more info. I found the tutorial for the removal of the aforementioned WIN 7 INTERNET SECURITY 2012. I downloaded the .reg file, iexplore, and malwarebytes all from a clean computer to a clean drive. I followed the guide, rkill again didn't find any processes to kill, and this time malwarebytes didn't find anything to remove, but mcafee is still turning itself off and the computer is running very slow, I am typing faster than the computer displays the... Hello,As the title probably let you know I've been having issues with the Internet Security 2012 rogue anti-virus spyware. Anyway I followed the steps to remove it and check your computer for infections, I downloaded TDSS Killer without any trouble, ran it, then RKill, no problem. Then when it got to Malwarebytes I ran into an issue right when it looked like it was all over, I was able to do I complete scan, and it located all of the problems, founds trojans and cookies, and gave me the option to remove them, I selected that I wanted to delete them. I saw the bar making progress... but halfway through this process the computer froze, and it clearly wasn't working, I couldn't minimize or enlarge the program, it just stayed still. I opened a task manager, and it told me it was not responding. I tried everything I could thing of and had no choice eventually but to restart the computer. I did that, and when it reloaded I did a quick scan, hoping that perhaps everything had been taken off before the program stopped running correctly. But I still found errors, less errors, about only half. I wasn't sure if that meant it had already started taking off some of the errors, but when the program was froze it didn't get the rest, or if they were all there, but perhaps because it wasn't as thorough of a scan this time it didn't pick up all the errors.... so instead stopping and just deleting those, I just did another long tedious full scan just to be sure. I try to keep my anti-virus software updated and I usually use the computers at my school library, which seem to have good security measures in place. My mother, however, tends to do without as her computer is used only for yahoo, email, and relatively safe stuff.I'm afraid that the computer somehow got infected and I'm the likely culprit, using it watch episodes of Family Guy and doing research on SCOTUS rulings. The program is a professed security system called "Internet Security 2012," and it won't let me even see the files in my flash drive. And if I click on the programs menu, EVERYTHING is empty. As per post by Psyche1226 (April 3, 2012) found on this site I ran FixNCR.reg and RKill and now I cannot connect to the internet. Along the path of trying to fix this problem I have discovered other small issues as well. Maybe they were caused by the rogue, maybe not.

Network icons stuck on "ACQUIRING NETWORK ADDRESS". Seems router and XP's network repair wizard are both trying to monitor network.

Please bare with me in trying to provide the info you need in order to help me. My mind is overwhelmed with possible fixes as well as all the data here on how to use this site. (what to do, what to download, etc.)

Have not been able to update anti-virus for months due to rogue. Am planning to uninstall and start using Avast once up and running again.

Also have available Spybot & Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes was updated and ran per instructions.

MISC INFO & FINDINGS --
1) Marwarebytes is currently loading at start-up after running FixNCR and RKill. Why is this?
2) Cannot print to network printer. Tried to re-add it and printer does not show in list as a choice.

Hello and welcome. Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I?ve given you the ?All clear.? Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean! Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within five days this thread will be closed. When you say you were unable to clean with TDSSKiller do you mean it wouldn't run, or it just didn't resolve your issues? If it ran a log would have been produced; navigate to c:\ and look for something like this: TDSSKiller.2.7.1.0_19.01.2012_17.24.26_log.txt. I know my router is fine and the port is fine. I have run maleware bytes scanner and ran nortan anti virus scan. Maleware found no problems. Nortan found a trojan which it says was removed but it has not fixed any problems. Please help. Company laptop that I need for work!. Here is my DDS log and attached the other two required files.
