mouse/keybd stops working. mouse sometimes "sticky"

Q: mouse/keybd stops working. mouse sometimes "sticky"

Hey folks,

This is very frustrating and I am at my wits end. I have tried 5 different wireless mice and two wireless keyboards with nearly no success.

Hardware tried:

HP Wireless mouse. Returned to store.
Logitech mk320 mouse/keyboard combo
Logitech m325 (two different ones)
iHome Mouse (works best actually)
Logitech v220 wireless mouse (very old)
Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard 1000

With all of the mice I experience issues where the pointer disappears or seems stuck on elements on the screen, for example, the pointer seems to get stuck on the edges of windows. Pointer motion is erratic at best. With the mk320 and m325 mice the pointer does not stay in one place long enough along with the windows scroll up or down a line or two which leaves me with the pointing device version of "whack-a-mole" attempting to click on something. The v220 is a very old mouse and while it works is resolution is fairly low.

With the microsoft mouse it sometimes stops working and needs to be reset. The keyboard does the same and needs batteries removed and replaced. Sometimes that doesnt work and I need to reboot.

With the keyboard on the mk320 combo some keys don't work consistently and sometimes no keys work. Cycling power fixes the no keys issues, moving the keyboard away from the computer fixes the keys that don't work consistently otherwise.

This issue has persisted with windows 8.0 and 8.1 with two different motherboards. At no point has the wireless transceiver and device been more than 5 feet apart and usually within 2.

For logitech I have updated to the latest setpoint and used the devices without setpoint. The v220, while recognized by setpoint, doesn't work with it at all making the pointer motion completely random. I have used different unifying transceivers for the logitech devices and none of those work any differently.

Outside of setpoint for the logitech devices there are no drivers specific to the others. I have made sure windows is updated. Used every usb port on the computer and even used a different with usb ports.

I use a lot of usb devices at random to communicate with my cell phone, usb flash drives and two guitar interfaces (line6 ux1 and fender mini-mustang). All of the other devices seem to work without issue.

What I need is either ideas to further diagnose the problems or failing that known reliable wireless mice and keyboards that are neither MS, Logitech or HP.

I have tried contacting each company regarding these problems. Microsoft was unreachable through a complex phone tree. Logitech doesnt always answer the phone in the number of rings my telco gives to place a call (15), and HP kept transferring me to the correct department and I gave up after 10 transfers.

Any help at all, ideas, tips, pointers, anything would be appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi jenny4, welcome ...

You obviously sound like you're no newbie to computers so forgive me for asking this but have you checked for Malware lately?

Needless to say, the fact that some mice work better than others is strange.

Hello all,

I just made a fresh install of Vista Home Premium 64bit, installed all updates and essential programs like MS Office. However, now the mouse cursor becomes smooth/deaccelerated when I move it to very right top of screen (about 1/2 inch from the right border and just a millimeter from the top border).

While this seems to be the problem only with the Logitech G9 laser mouse (no matter if the drivers are installed or not), I can also sense some small slow down with my Microsoft Optical Mouse 3000.

A few months ago I made a similar Vista re-install (with the same set-up and programs) without any problems.

A:Mouse cursor becomes "sticky" on right top of screen

Should not be hard to diagnose
Run in safe mode
If it contiunes post back
Safe Mode
If it does not continue
run with clean boot to diagnose the problem
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Post results.
Be sure that it is not the mouse.
Disengage the touch pad for testing.

Hello,

Two weeks ago,I picked up an HP Envy Desktop w/16GB memory and have only installed about a dozen apps. I have noticed that in the initial days the performance seemed pretty smooth. However, today it seems as though the mouse (Logitech m705) is not performing well. As I move it across the screen it will be OK, then all of a sudden it grabs - it stops moving - then begins moving again.

I have downloaded and installed new drivers for the mouse and no software has been added for a few days, nor any changes in hardware. The machine has a 2 TB HD and the current software is not media related in any way. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jake

A:Mouse "sticky" or skipping

Try a Clean Boot, if that works then add one startup item at a time rebooting after each one, until the computer does it Minnie freezes, Then you will know what the troublesome driver or App is.

I was having an issue with my Windows 7 cursor flickering between 'arrow' and 'working in background' at an irritianting rate and found the following TechSupportGuy thread a couple of minutes ago:

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/642572-mouse-cursor-constantly-flickering-between.html

One of the posts in the thread lead me to the solution but unfortunately it seems most people have opted for reinstalling the OS instead!

Given the the original thread is closed I decided to create a new one and post the solution here in an attempt to prevent people from taking such drastic measures to get rid of this (incredibly irritant) issue in the future.

I simply disabled the Windows Search service and killed the process behind it (SearchIndexer.exe) in Task Manager. My cursor is now back to normal

Disabling this service means any new files will not be indexed although you can re-enable it and leave the pc running for a couple of hours every now and again so that new files are indexed. Hope this helps!

This error i'm having seems very common (seen videos and such) but I can't seem to get this problem fixed.

Everything was running fine, until last Sunday. Then the mouse started to have this problem - It doesn't matter what USB port it's in or anything, and tried the device manager tricks and that isn't either.

I have a Cougar E-Sports gaming mouse. Has anyone got a workaround for this problem, it's driving me nuts!

Hi,

I use win xp pro service pack 2.
I don't know how or when (little brothers) but my mouse pointer goes to the "working in background" graphic from startup.
I noticed in task manager, in the processes list that regsrv32.exe keeps blinking on and off. Which would be the reason for the pointer problem.
This happens in safe mode as well.
I ran two diff online virus scans which said i'm clear. Ran adaware. Ran yahoo anti-spy which removed something.
I've opened hijackthis and things seem ok except for a bho that won't fix or delete.
I've run CWShredder, which said it removed VX2.Look2Me. After restart it said the same thing. I then used a symantec tool for look2me removal. Said I was clear. Even tried manual removal steps. Nothing there. CWShredder still says it removes it each time I run it.

I have nothing unusual in my startup list. No regsrv32.exe listed. No sign of W32/Rbot-GM worm.
I tried searching for regsrv32.exe on my computer. The search thing must be faulty because it finds nothing. In my system32 folder though i have the proper microsoft file.

The last thing I tried was a windows update. 14 files were listed. After restart, automatic update still came up asking to download and install 4 files.
I did it again, and again, and again. The 4 files won't install.

despair.
pls help

I have a very strange problem on a computer we are attempting a repair on. No keyboards or mice, either ps/2 or usb, will work properly on this computer.

The computer is running Windows 7 x64.

The reason why it's very strange is that when I plug in a new mouse or keyboard, one that has not been previously installed, it will work until it has become fully installed. The moment the hardware installation popup says "your devices are ready to use", the device becomes completely unresponsive. Lights remain on the mouse and the numlock light continues to stay on but will not respond to any buttons or keys. The computer's time still ticks and the computer will shutdown properly if the power button is pressed so the computer is not frozen.

The same result occurs in safe mode.

We have tried running the windows 7 recovery disc and running 2 different system restores but neither would complete.

A:Mouse and Keyboard stop working after "installed". USB and PS/2

Give this a try.

Shut down the computer.
Unplug the keyboard and mouse. (USB)
Boot the computer then plug in the keyboard and wait for the sound and the popup to go away.
Then plug in the mouse and do the same thing.
Try the mouse and keyboard.
Reboot and see if they still work.

It's very unusual that a PS2 won't work.

Everything was working fine until yesterday when I got my new Ipod and I hooked it to Itunes which was already installed on the computer. I left the Ipod syncing and charger and went to work. When I returned home, BAM the problem existed.
I did a system restore back before the Ipod hookup but that didn't help.

I woke up this morning to find that my mouse would not go back to normal. It continuously has the "working in background" blue/green circle next to it and won't stop. This is bugging the ever-loving CRAP out of me! I went into the mouse properties and found nothing wrong. I was going to do a system restore, but I never manually set a restore point. For some God-awful reason, Windows 7 doesn't periodically set restore points. I'm running Windows 64-bit Home Edition. I have also had no problems with this computer until now. I'm doing a virus scan right now with Trend Micro. I did not visit any dangerous websites between last night and this morning. Please help!

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 (laptop, so it has a touchpad -- You'll be amazed how many people didn't realize this until i told this them at the end... it was a confusing conversation with them)

If any of you know, you can automatically set your MSN Messenger to Away to a set amount of minutes. Well about a month ago, I had my small Dynex USB mouse plugged in when all of a sudden it died (4th one!). It was around this time I also realize my status was NEVER changing automatically to Away.

I have a feeling it still things a mouse is in there. Any way to test movements in the mouse or touchpads sensors?

Hello!I have 2 problems that have happened before and after wiping the laptop and reinstalling W10 they go away. But when the battery runs out they come back after recharging.
Originally this machine was running 8.1 and these issues were not present.I've gone into F5 and run the Pre-boot System Assessment and everything says it's fine? Confusing.
1. When booting up I get the message "Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available."

I select F2, go to Battery Information and the AC Adapter = Unknown.
The little light on my adapter is a solid white so it is in fact charging.

2. If I select F1 and go into the laptop ignoring the adapter warning the mouse pad does not work.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and still have the same problem.
I've also checked to see if it's locked, it's not.
I've tried plugging in a mouse and it doesn't work either, only touch screen

Like I said, if I wipe the computer and reinstall Windows 10 the laptop works fine in both laptop and tablet mode, but if the battery runs low and turns off these 2 issues come back. Any ideas besides reinstalling w10?

Apparently only the REAR usb ports are sick.  If I connect the devices to the front USB ports - they work.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Had some minor stuff - mostly PUP's.

After cleaning and rebooting the PS/2 Mouse and the USB Kybd are CODE 10.

What I have tried:

1. Upperfilters/Lowerfilters - no change

2. SFC /Scannow - no problems found

3. Uninstalled devices and reboot - they re-install but stay at Code 10.

4. I am currently getting things together to perform a repair install if necessary.

There are no restore points available.

Funny thing is if I plug the USB mouse to the front of the PC rather than the back where it currently is - it installs and works.

A:No PS/2 Keybd or USB Mouse after virus cleanup

I would go to Device Manager...scroll down to USB...expose the detail.  Then uninstall every detail item under USB which contains the word "controller", no need to bother with other items.

Reboot.

This reinstalls the USB drivers.

What the problem is : IE stops working everytime I shut it down.
Give detail explaining your problem : Everytime a page has not been fully loaded, and if I close the page "X", it will display a popup "Windows Explorer has Stop Working and needs to shut down", "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". The most annoying thing is that all the current browser pages inter-related to the page (that I closed and has now "stopped working") will also "stop working" and shut down. It's very very annoying and irritating for me. Must I wait till every single darn thing is loaded in a page before I can close it? This doesn't happen in WinXP IE.

If you get any error message please post them : "Windows Explorer has Stop Working and needs to shut down", "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

Hi Ridakash, Welcome to SF,

You could try this ShellExView

The rule is to disable non-Microsoft context menu handlers *one-by-one* and verify if the problem is solved. If disabling one does not solve the problem, undo the disabled item and disable the next non-Microsoft handler. Do the same until the problem is solved and finally identify the culprit. Scroll right to see the Company Name column in ShellExView.

If that didn't help

Download this attachment Attachment 50723 Save it under C:\Windows\System32\

Go To Start > Type Regedit and do a search for CompMgmtLauncher.exe

Mine was located here.
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\Manage\command]

Under this key you will find a line that ends in CompMgmtLauncher.exe
Change the exe to bat and Manage should now work.

Hope this helps,
Captain

What happens is that after a few days I'm unable to reach this laptop via TeamViewer. When I then physically open the lid the screen appears to have "frozen". I can move the mouse and usually open software, press the start button and restart the computer. The clock however is wrong and do not change though. The feed software has sent its last data at the time the clock displays. For example, the correct time can be 1420, but the laptop clock will perhaps show 0826.

I've made a task schedule to restart the computer every night at 0200. This is done as expected until the computer freezes.

After manually restarting the computer everything works as expected, the clock is correct, the computer feeds data and I am able to remotely connect via TeamViewer for another few days before it freezes again...

Any ideas and help on how to fix this would be highly appreciated!

Thank you.

A:Laptop "freezes" and stops completely working after a few days

Hi, Check you CMOS battery.
How to stop your PC's Windows clock losing time - How-To - PC Advisor

Suggest doing a memory check, and run a program such as this:
PassMark BurnInTest software - PC Reliability and Load Testing

to stress test your PC.

Also check your event viewer and see if there's anything helpful there. Reliability History may help too. That's assuming it managed to log anything before freezing, of course.

If nothing shows from above, you can try leaving it on in Safe Mode and see if it remains functional for long enough.
If so, try a clean boot and repeat.

hi all

I am new to this forums and here is my question.

I tried to verify whether the F8 restore factory function is working in my dell inspiron 1545. I got this error -

Windows failed to start. A Recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your langugae settings, and then click next
3. Click "repair your computer."
Status: 0xc000000e
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

there is only one operation system - windows 7 home premium installed. it boots correctly.

I found a thread at - Windows 7, "Repair your computer" F8 boot option not working (SOLVED) | Knowledge Base. it utilizes bcdedit to fix the problems.

for my case, the output of bcdedit /enum all shows unknown device as well. but I also noticed my output has 2 different guids.

i have no idea which one indicates which partition at all.

i will post my bcdedit output later today. hopefully, it will help troubleshooting.

thanks in advance,

A:F8 "Repair your computer" stops working with 0xc000000e

All boot repair commands are automated in Win7 Startup Repair.
You sometimes have to run it more than once to sort all of the issues as it runs multiple test and fixes.

You said that you attempted to run Dell Factory Recovery from its F8 hotlink, but the error you report is one which is received when one tries to boot into a HD which will not boot.

Did you choose the Repair My COmputer link on the F8 Advanced Boot Options?
Did you then see the Factory Recovery Option as shown in this tutorial? Dell Restoring Your Computer?s Software to the Factory Settings

We need to know exactly what happened: What you did and when you got the errors, not just saying you booted into F8 and got this error. Please retrace and report every step.

It's possible what is needed is this if clicking Factory Recovery errors out: Dell Recovery Partition - restoring F8 link

Hi,

My laptop had a problem before.
Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
The blue screen of death. I get this right after the Windows green bar loading page and restarts immediately. And it loops.

So what I decided to do was to do a complete reinstall of Windows XP Home. But, the set up stops at the message "Restarting computer..."

I've turned off my computer manually and boot it up again, but it still has the same problem. Please, help!

Hi all!

I have a Dell Zino HD. It came with Windows 7 64bit, but I would like to use that license on another computer so I want to swap in a copy of Vista that I own that is currently not in use.

I did a clean install of Vista, and it made it all the way through the install process, and when it rebooted it just stopped at a black screen with the mouse cursor arrow. I can move the arrow around, but it does nothing else.

I tried reinstalling, reinstalling on a secondary partition (wondering if there was something goofy with the front of the drive) all to the same effect. Safe mode will not boot either.

I have a copy of XP MCE lying around so I thought I would try that. I put that in, and it just got past loading the inital drivers and hit "Starting Windows" before I could do any input at all and then blue screened with a message that I should run CHKDSK /F.

I got the harddrive out, got it into my Windows 7 Professional-running desktop and ran CHKDSK. It found nothing wrong. I ran all of Dell's harddrive checks. It, too, found nothing wrong.

On a whim I tried Windows 7 again, and it worked just fine.

Any ideas on what on earth is going on?

System specs are:
Dell Zino HD (400)
ATI HD3200 Integrated graphics (running on VGA for this experiment)
3 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
1.6 Ghz single core AMD cpu.

Thanks so much guys!

hello all,

using "dual monitor" software program. mouse would switch screens with my two monitors. replaced one monitor with a new one - now mouse will not move from screen to screen unless the setting is "duplicate displays". If i choose "extend displays", the mouse will not switch. I can see on the second screen an update window from the "dual monitor" program but cannot move the mouse over to that screen.

one monitor is on dvi and the other on vga but that was not a problem with the old monitor.

suggestions? I am considering a stand alone graphics card with dual dvi.

Not the proper answer to your question obviously, but the best (most probably) program to manage multiple displays is DisplayFusion. You may try it. Usually it satisfies the users.

I was wondering if there was *some* way to launch Modern apps with the "Microsoft Mouse And Keyboard Center", or whether there's a Modern version of "Microsoft Mouse And Keyboard Center" in the works.

Is there some sort of command or something that can be put into the "Open a program, webpage, or file" field?

If nothing else, is there a program that can be launched that can automatically launch a metro app?

Thanks.

The only method that I have seen is using macros.  E.g. find the minimal, most reliable method of using the Start Screen to do whatever it is that you want to do via the keyboard, then express that sequence by a macro and assign it to an "unused"
function key.

Hello all,

As of yesterday I've been having a problem where my cursor and audio/video have been skipping every second or so for a millisecond. It seems to coincide with the processors 'whirring'.

The skipping of the audio/video is best described as similar to when the computer goes to sleep or wakes up whilst something is running (a millisecond of audio repeats very quickly for a short period of time.

I tried reinstalling Windows 7 to cure this problem but unfourtunately found that the problem exists. Here is the HijackThis report (I had a pop-up indicating that it wasn't a read file so I would have to delete the files manually, if that makes any difference).

Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you very much.

When clicking in a field with the mouse, it likes to select all the contents. Like this:
To edit some part of the field, I then have to click again to clear the highlight, then click on the spot where I want the cursor to be. Is it possible to turn off this highlighting/select-all feature so I can just place the cursor where I want it on the first click?

Don't think so. About the best you can do is place the pointer where you want it and double click.

Thanks for any help.

A:Mouse hangs for seconds with "Ding Dong" sound

It sounds like one of the following:
A dodgy cable.
A dodgy internal mouse construction (e.g. bad soldering).
A dodgy USB port.
It's acting like you've pulled the plug and then reinserted it.

I have the same problem with my USB DTV dongle (dodgy internal construction).

I have a problem that I've never experienced before in XP, Vista and Windows 7. I have researched the problem but the only thing I can find is how to turn on and turn off the "jump to" default button pointer setting. In the past, the jump to feature worked as intended but appx. two weeks ago I started having this problem. We all know how the function works and the fact that it will not work with all default buttons, which is good. Here's the current situation: the pointer still goes to the window in which the default button is located but instead of landing on the button the pointer goes to the upper left corner or mid-left side of the window. I haven't installed any software lately that would cause such a thing to happen and I haven't made any changes. The problem occurs in both my user account and my wife's user account, mine being an Administrator account and hers being a Stanard account. My Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard software is up to date and the current driver is installed. I have not changed/updated the driver in the software. I have uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled and rebooted to no avail. The mouse settings are properly set to enable the jump.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 on a Dell XPS-17 L702X laptop. All updates are current. This is not a widespread problem because I can't find any discussions related to the problem although I've searched the Internet for hours. I simply don't understand it. Hello.

Been having very, VERY annoying issues with my computer as of late. I could be playing a game. All is well until all of a sudden my keyboard and mouse just completely stop working (although the computer still appears to be running fine, just keyboard and mouse stop). So i restart my computer, only to get a message along the lines of "bios checksum error" with very fast, constant beeping. I reset my computer again and i get nothing on my screen, the light just turns amber. After turning my computer strait off and back on again, it comes back to life and begins working again like nothing ever happened. (until the next time it happens).

I am really struggling to find out what the problem actually is, but i THINK that it might be the motherboard, but im not sure. What do you guys think? Sound like a motherboard problem?

My system specs are as follows:

CPU: Pentium 4 2.2Ghz
RAM: 1GB DDR400
Video: GeForce 6600GT
HDD: 320GB WDC
Mobo: ECS 661FX-M (I know ECS is crap, this is why i think it might be the mobo)
PSU: Thermaltake 430w

I posted the question a while back and never got the issue solved so I'm trying again.

Many times, when I am on a web page and I move the mouse the slightest bit the page will "go back" to the previous page I was on. Sometimes it will go back and forth. It's very random and can be quite annoying as I work online.

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm not much of a techie, so please explain very simply for me

I had to reinstall Windows XP in order to fix a previous problem. The installation seemed to proceed without any trouble. However, immediately after the reinstallation, whenever I attempt to boot up, the mouse (USB optical) which previously was fine, is inoperative. At the end of the boot up a screen appears which says,
"The feature is on a CD ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert status disk and click ok."'
I don't know what disk is required. Trying the Windows XP disk in the D drive did not help.
If I click OK the following screen comes up,
"..........try to find the installation package status.msi in a folder from which you can install the product Status."
There is nothing wrong with the USB port. Another mouse which works on another computer also fails. With the limited function I have using the keyboard everything else seems intact. I am submitting this post on another computer.
I have no idea how to fix this problem

Is it possible to write a batch or a simple program which hides a terminal "outside" the screen on a border (let's say right side) and when mouse coodrinates are equal to screen width-1 the terminal moves left till it's entirely visible? It should not be re-opened, just start at startup (as administrator) and stay there. Possibly with a fixed width, no chance of resizing the border, no topbar, no chance of moving it. Just sliding inside/outside right border. It's hard to do? It's possible? How to?
(note: my programming knowledge is limited to essential c++ terminal without interacting with Windows, some java and plenty of gml, but gml is not made to interact with outside world unfortunatelly)

Hello.

First, sorry about my bad english. I'll try my best.

And the problem. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my computer. It's working with that 30 days trial now, cos I'm testin how does it work on my HTPC. It runs fine, no crashes or BSOD. I can use it and no problems.

It is updatet with windows update, and also I have loaded and installed latest drivers for my hardware and other devices.

Ok, so Windows runs like it should be. But when I'm not doing anything whit it, it start acting weirdly. For example. I'm listenin music from netstream. It's ok. But after while I try to click running programs (like firefox) tab in taskbar, it doesen't bring allready opened firefox to screen. It opens new one. In firefox, when I click link, it wil open in new tab and that shoudent happen. Mouse lost scollin, and it turns to zoom (the middle button in Logitech Anywhere MX). In desktop, if I click any of the icons, it won't start the software, but instead it opens "Properties" window instead.

It helps, when I log out, and log in. Works some time, but after not doing anything it starts again.

Don't know what to do? Is it Windows, or is it my hardware?

Sorry, I really don't know if I used proper terminology. Ask for more details. It's easier to me to answer a question, than write from my own(?). I've tryed to google if I can find some answers, but the answers are for Internet Explorer opening new windows and that's not the pproblem, because every software does that.

first of all how much ram do you have?

second of all hiding the mouse should not use much memory(any?).

Third of all sometime 3rd party programs are not able to use all windows features.
