I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Right, these netbooks are absolute useless. It's my girlfriends, (Acer Aspire one, ZG5 "AOA11")
Basically i had just reformatted it for her and installed windows 7 after upgrading the memory to 4gb, re-installed the neccessary drivers.
Was half way through installing the LAN driver when it restarted itself for no apparant reason, anyways i was getting an error relating to the following:

"Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (BUILD 082)"
"PXE-E62: Media test failure, check cable"
"PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM."

I knew that problem, so disabled the network boot in the BIOS, that was solved.
Soon after this i was getting the No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key.
I've been having this problem for a few hours now, and it's really starting to stress me out.
I've tryed putting Windows XP onto a 2GB USB Memory stick, but yet still no luck with that. It isn't loading on the NTFS format as it shows that BOOTMGR is missing, tryed it on the FAT Format and just states yet another error,
"Remove disks or other media."
"Press any key to restart."

Unfortunatly i don't have an external cd drive to boot from CD-ROM. This is why i am trying to boot an installation from USB Memory stick.
Regards, Dean.

I have an acer aspire one 532h-2297 netbook, and have suddenly encountered a problem with start up. Upon turning the computer on, the acer logo loads, then it automatically jumps into an error screen asking me to start normally, or launch startup repair. I'm not able to make any selection, however, because I have no curser on the screen to try to use the touchpad, and I get no response from the keyboard at all. Then it jumps into startup repair and somewhere about here, it starts to beep continuosly. The startup repair window begins to flash/flicker continuously and a cursor arrow in the centre also flashes with the blue "working" circle around it. This is where it remains until I am able to finally choose "finish" with the touchpad. The computer then goes to a black screen and begins the beeping sound again. Help! Can I recover to factory settings somehow? I can occasionally get the computer to laod up, but the cursor response is limited. Is there a way to recover from there? At my wit's end!!

A:problem starting acer netbook

The touchpad can't be used until Windows starts the driver. Only keys work before that. The menu should respond to the arrow keys. Does it?

I have windows 7 starter on an Acer netbook. The picture is only showing on about 2/3 of the screen - eg, I have a huge black space on the right, and the top of the screen is repeated/tiled at the bottom. I have tried system restore, restarts several times, switched on and off several times and tried to change screen resolution, all with no success. (on the screen resolution box it says the display is 1024 x 768 but the highest resolution is 800 x400 I can't take the slider any higher up. This has been an intermittant problem for some time but usually corrects after a few restarts and shows on the full screen again. However, I've spent several hours today trying to do it and nothing seems to work.

A:Problem with screen on Acer Netbook

Hello PrehistoricCat and Welcome to TSG.

Restart the system, and on bootup start tapping F8 On the screen select Safe Mode. Do you have this issue there in safe mode? If not then I suspect corrupted video drivers. Uninstall the drivers there in safe mode and restart the system. Windows will load default drivers for the video. Now go to Acer and download the latest drive for your video.

If you do have this issue in safe mode, this could very well be a hardware problem with the display itself, and needs to be look at by a repair tech.

I have a regular Medion laptop where the HD (40 GB) is in 3 partitions, C,D,and E the D and E for backup and recovery and see that the Medion Netbook (160GB HD) has 2 partions C and D for the same purposes. With these laptops come discs -Operating System Installation CD and Application & Support Disc.

Now the Acer Netbook (120GB HD) has just the C drive with no support CDs of any kind so what is the difference in design of the two? Why should Medion computers have all this itty bitty extra stuff and the Acer ( and probably many others) apparently needing none of it? Do the different systems point to weaknesses or strengths in their designs?

I'm rather perplexed - can anyone enlighten me please?

A:Acer Netbook and Medion 97160 Netbook differences

Recovery/restore disks/partitions...are not uniform in the way that they operate. Different manufacturers have different preferences.

Some computer system manufacturers use a recovery/restore mechanism that involves small, additional partitions...some don't.

The respective owner's manual and manufacturer's website should contain exact details of how these mechanisms work.

Acer One Net book error msg says to re-install a copy of hal.dll in Windows root\system32\. I have no external software. I probably can recover with Alt F10 but the msg there says all data will be wiped out. I'd like to save my data, especially some photos that are not backed up. Acer's so-call tech support said it can be done but to learn how it will cost me at least $59 (30 minutes) or $159 for 90 minutes of support. Thanks for any assistance. Sorry if I've posted in the wrong place.

A:Solved: Acer One Netbook recovery

You need to get hold of an external DVD drive so that you can boot from it and backup the data. You can then use your Windows DVD to repair the system with a real Windows CD/DVD or use a Live Linux CD or DVD to boot off and copy data off so that you can reinstall the system.

I have this Acer Aspire One netbook AO532h-2db working on Windows 7. A few days back it just refused to start-up when the power switch on. The blue light on power switch is lit and the fan runs but no HDD activity.

Can go into F2 setup and when pressing F8 button repeatedly ( sometimes 30times) it starts up normally. Can go into Safe Mode. There is no problem at all while the pc is running, works superbly - it only cannot restart or switched on normally.

Action taken so far:

1. Checked CMOS battery 3V OK
2. Did thorough virus scan with AVG, SAS, Malwarebyte and Spybot - no
virus found.
3. Upgraded BIOS from V.1.05 to V 1.10
4. Did Chkdisk and memtest and phisically cleaned RAM connector.
5. Did Recovery to Factory Default.
6. Reinstalled windows updates and Acer drivers.
7. Disassemble PC and cleaned out dust.

No battery installed - works on mains all the time.

To whom it may concern:

Thanks for taking the time to help me. My Acer netbook worked great for over a year before it recently was overcome with locking up / freezing issues. I've performed many hard reboots lately, which leads me to believe I have a nasty trojan or rootkit issue, but I have pasted logs below to help.

For some background... I was using Bit Torrent. Had no problems, but I recently DL'ed the latest season of Weeds and incidentally have noticed problems since then, though three different virus scan applications turn up no infection in those files. Not sure that has anything to do with this or not.

Safe mode works fine, but anything to do with the internet leads to freezing. I also get the sense that my netbook is using more batteries than usual when just sitting there, which seems suspicious. Prior to these problems I had issues with my network recognizing my wifi, but that could be coincidental.

Thanks! ~Randy

So I bought an acer aspire one netbook from a friend, the netbook was reformatted and is now running windows 7 ultimate 32 bit which I think is a bit too much for the netbook to run smoothly, I've already posted the fast draining of the battery which has been addressed, the problem now is that the netbook is really slow and it can't play 1080 resolution movies, youtube vids can't play well and I've also noticed that the netbook is hot even though it's sitting on  netwbook stand with an exhaust fan, would it be better to reformat the netbook to windows XP again? any thoughts will be appreciated.
By the way, I tried to set the netbook back to factory settings by pressing Alt + F10 during the boot up with the Acer logo however it does not go to recovery mode, it just makes a long beeping sound and boots normally.
Thank you!

A:Acer Aspre one netbook, youtube lag and slowness problem

Netbooks have never been known for blazing speed, so I can't say I'm surprised.  However you didn't post any specs for it, so I can't go into any depth.  I will say that you ought to try Ubuntu or Mint Linux because they perform a lot better than Windows on computers with less resources.  You can put them on a flash drive and boot from them in trial mode without having to install anything.  They will detect your network, connect to the Internet, and they come with Firefox installed and ready to run.
Good luck.

I have a problem with the screen brightness constantly dimming itself...it doesn`t matter which power setting I try or which route I go down...whenever re-setting,the tab just moves itself back down to the lowest setting...sometimes it stays bright for around an hour and then once again will revert.

I have installed a new hard drive and so this is a new installation of windows 7 32 bit...but prior to this new hard drive I had the same problem.

I have read through similar threads but can`t find a solution so wonder if anybody is able to advise please ? ...all drivers and updates are present on the system.

edit to add...it is the same whether plugged in or on battery.

I have an Acer Aspire One ( AOA 110-1722 ) , this has Xp loaded.
My problem is that I can't boot up - I get to the welcome screen, then the list of Safe Mode , Last known config etc, appears. When I enter anyone of these it goes into disc check. Then the cycle starts again. How can I either reinstall XP I have a CD b which I can use on my desktop, this also has an SD reader. As far as the Acer is concerned there is NO disc drive and I have no remote hard drive - just USB stick and the existing 8 Gb SD memory card.

Your hard drive may be failing. It's possible to get a USB stick to boot a computer, and it's possible to copy XP to a bootable USB stick, and it's possible to get the XP to install from a USB drive. The hard part is getting the installation data to accept your product key.

These netbooks are a real bad idea for this very reason. YOu can try to do all the above, but I wouldn't waste the time. What I would do is buy a usb external CD/DVD drive and use that to get XP reinstalled.

If you have a desktop, you can get the HD installed on the desktop as a secondary drive, and from there possibly run diagnostics and maybe repair utilities to get the HD fixed. You might even be able to image the old drive to a new one and save yourself the trouble and time-expense of trying to get XP reinstalled.

I wasn't aware that the Acer Aspire One Netbook has a System Recovery feature, so I tried to format the hard drive using an external CD/DVD Reader. The Netbook was infected by a big bunch of viruses. Now, I am able to install Windows Vista, but I can't install Windows XP. This model came with Windows XP, but if I try to reinstall it, I will get a blue screen and it will reboot. For some reason I can't comprehend.... I am able to install Vista. What can I do in order to reinstall Windows XP? Is there any program available online that will format the hard drive at a 100% capacity? I don't have the Vista license number, and this model only has 1024 of SDRAM and that is not enough for Vista? Any ideas? Thanks!

Wrong drivers. Use the Intel F6 drivers.

Intel F6 Drivers

Method 1: to 4:

Uses the Win XP CD.

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware on the manufacturer's web site.
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.
SATA Drivers - Load in Windows XP Setup on Dual Boot
SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD

A:Solved: Is Acer Aspire ONE AoA-150 Netbook flashdrive bootable?

I know from personal experience that the netbook is USB
bootable,as I reinstalled windows from a USB cdrom on one.
I can see online that people are restoring from a USB flash drive,
so if your flash drive has a bootable system on it,it should be
a matter of plugging it in,starting the computer and changing
the first boot device to something like USB-HDD if it
doesn't actuall identify the drive itself in the boot list.
Some computers have a quick boot menu that could be used instead.
Usually something like hitting F8 during startup to go to the boot menu.

What are you trying to boot from the flash drive?

Ok, I really need HELP! I literally spent all last week reading/researching this issue, but this one is over my head, so after being up ALL night trying to figure it out, I am pleading for some one on this wonderful forum to assist me.

Acer Aspire One D250, aka kav60, typical netbook with no external DVD Drive. I bought 2 (nearly)identical ones for my grandkids. Here's what happened:

1. One of them became terribly infected with trojans, rootkits, worms, you name it. The other grandchild who is learning about computers decided to "fix" it. He cleaned the computer and the system was clean but locking up and not running well.

2. He said the took the "good" hard drive out and tried to "clone" it OVER top of the bad one.

Now it won't boot at all,
Currently, when trying to boot it says the drive needs formatted, please see the pic that shows the partitions. Also when I put it in an external enclosure, it also tells me it needs formatted.

I really need step by step on how to correct the problem. BTW, I have NO recovery disks - only the restore function built in (which isn't working)
I have made an UBCD and also Hiren's, but I am not familiar with the commands.

So, I am guessing, that the MBR is messed up and the partitions as well.

If one of you fine folks could walk me thru, I will forever be indebted to you. Thanks so much!!

First off I am not all that much of a "tecnical" person so I may need simple languge.

About five days ago my netbook started to take a realy long time to find and connect to my wirless internet. last time it took around thirty minets. Not only that but while it is still connecting If I try to bring up any thing it will freez. I can not even pull up microsft word or the start menu. however in safemod it only takes a few seconts to find the connection and conect.(That is how I am able to get online now.)
so far I have run every anti virues program I have(which did not come up with any thing other then traking cookies) , uninstalled all the programs I can with the exeption of the ones that came preinstalled and microsoft office. I have also ran defrag and cleared out my brouser history. lastly I tried disconecting from my wirless signel in safe mod then restarting in reguler mod. All of this with no luck.
I am also farly sure that it has nothing to do with the motum or the internet as both of my moms laptops work just fine.
does any one have any idea why it is doing this or how I can fix it?

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire one Netbook Computer. It is runniing XP home with internet explorer as the browser.
There are two user accounts set up on my Acer. Mywife's and mine. Both accounts have the same text size from the view menu selected and the resolution in the display settings from the control panel are both set the same. As an example, on the msn.com website in my wife's account the website pulls up with good sized, readable text and fills the whole screen. In mine the website covers the middle (left to right) half of the screen (there is a quarter of the screen on each side of the webpage that is blue and unused) and the text as well as everything else is small to the point of not being able to read it. On another website, http://homepage.acer.com the webpage fills the screen side to side but everything is still small and unreadable. When I pull that page up in my wife's account it is fine. When I first started using the computer the size of the webpages when using my account was fine. After about an hour or so of use is when the website format changed. I was not in any of the options or control pannel settings so don't think I changed anything. Any suggestions?

If you run into the same problem, I managed to solve it myself. Under view in the menu bar I went to the zoom setting and clicked on 100%. Somehow it had been reset to 50%. Simple solution. I had been going back and forth with Acer online tech support and they couldn't figure it out. Their solution was to buy live tech support from their advanced tech guys. $60 for 30 minutes. Poor customer support when the computer is less than a week old under warranty. You'd think they, with "trained" techs would have suggested that.

Hi, any help on this would save my shattered nerves!!!

My acer aspire one netbook got the blue screen of death, (end of error hexidecimal code was 000007B). I tried to resolve it, but gave up in the end and did the 'erecovery' via cmd prompt f10, and went back to factory default setttings. Worked perfectly. I then did a 'Restore' from my Backup (Clickfree Backup System btw), and got all my files back. I then tried to get back online.

I am connected to my wifi signal (excellent strength) on the netbook, but not connected to the internet. It isn't an issue with the wifi, as I am connected to internet fine using my other pc (a laptop), and my ipod touch is also still connected and fine.

I ran connection diagnostic in Internet Explorer, which said it was damaged winsock. I've tried winsock repair from Diagnostic in Internet Explorer Tools: did nothing. I've also tried running a winsock fix program, that also did nothing. From the cmd screen I've tried to 'ping' yahoo and BBC: nothing. I've tried to reset the IP Config, and that did nothing.

I'm out of ideas and losing hope!!! Please, can anyone help me?

eGreetings All,

I have a 4 year old Acer Netbook Aspire One D250-1341. Running Windows 7 Starter. It is out of warranty.
About 3 months ago it started dropping the wireless internet connection. It has a Broadcom 802.11g network adapter onboard. (No exclamation mark in the Device Manager). It still connects at close range to my router.

I tried some general adjustments by searching the web - but nothing helped.

So I thought I would try adding an Intel Wifi Link 5300 AGN card. There is a slot on the bottom of the netbook where it fits. You just take the cover off and slide it in.
Windows found the card and installed the drivers. It shows up in Device Manager with no exclamation. I manually disabled the Broadcom adapter.
But the Intel 5300 won't find my network.
I went to the Intel web site and ran the Driver Update Utility it searched and found the 5300 and installed the current drivers.
Still no luck connecting.

Maybe this setup won't work at all and I should send the Intel 5300 card back to Amazon for a refund?
I am at a loss.
I have tried searching the web and I can't find anyone that has added a a wireless card to the open slot on the bottom of an Acer D250.

Any ideas? I was hoping to get a stronger and more stable wireless connection.

Thank you so much for your time and assistance.
Happy Holidays!

Just installed windows 7 64bit and reinstalled all the original drivers (Some of which needed updating online due to the switch to 64bit) and everything seems to working perfectly, except the Touchpad. At the moment I'm using a normal mouse but I take the laptop out alot so the touch pad's funtionality is pretty important.

Hope someone out there can help me

A:Acer 8930G Touchpad Problem

I had the same problem on an Acer 8930G after installing W7 32bit. The Acer drivers didn't solve the problem. The manufacturer of the touchpad is Synaptics. I downloaded the driver from their site Drivers | Synaptics. That solved the problem.

Good luck

I bought an Acer Aspire E5-511, but I have problem with touchpad and Windows 8.1.The touchpad (Synaptics) is not working with Windows 8.1 x64, but it works fine with Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8 x64.When I install Windows 8.1 and have to choose? language to install? I can?t choose anything with the touchpad. I should plug in my mouse to continue. I doesn?t work even when it?s fully installed and with latest driver (available only for win 8.1 x64) from Acer?s website. I tried with an older driver, but had no success. I updated BIOS, but it doesn?t work again. In hardware IDS in device manager it shows HID\? not ACPI\? (like win 7/8). Fn+F7 doesn?t help. When I try to install Windows7/8 the touchpad is working properly at the beginning (I can choose ?language to install?, ?Time and currency format?? and the touchpad works after install even without driver).

i've got a problem with my touchpad on Acer Aspire 3690, couple days ago it completely quit working, touchpad + the left and rigth keys on it and the scroll key.
When I looked into device manager I saw the exclamation mark beside the SCSI/RAID host Controller. I tried to update or something with that driver with wizard but no result, and also as I turn my laptop on, that wizard turns on and offers me to install it, but at the end it not finds any driver. I re-installed the Synaptic but it didn't help.

Thanx for help in advance. Any suggestion will be appreciated

Just got my new Acer Chromebook R11 today, and I've noticed that the touchpad only works when its in tablet mode, which is super counterproductive since I would only need to use it in laptop mode, which I can't. Also the screen can't rotate at all, no matter what I do.. Anyone know how to fix these two problems? edit: nevermind, it just suddenly started working

A few weeks a go a bought a new LG netbook. Tonight I turned it on and the cursor is just stuck there in the middle of the screen.

I don't use a mouse, just the touchpad, so I can't even attempt to do anything. Everything else seems to be working fine in the background upon boot up and on the desktop, but the cursor won't budge.

Tried to open control panel but obviously can't do that with the cursor stuck. Any options the DON'T involve me having to buy a new USB mouse?

How can I fix this?

A:My netbook touchpad is frozen. Can't do anything! Now what?

You can go into device manager, delete the touchpad and restart the system and see if that clears it up but it sounds like a hardware issue with either a loose ribbon cable to the touchpad or its just burned out (it happens).

If the netbook is new though perhaps its still under warranty and you can get an RMA for it from the manufacturer?

My netbook is a Samsung n145plus and has 8.1 installed with all updates. (even if it's not officially supported but it works amazingly fine)

I've installed the officia Samsung Elan touchpad driver as it seemed to work fine (it's for Win 7) except when scrolling with the edge of the pad because a Elan window appears on the taskbar and was annoying so I installed a newer driver but for a gateway laptop it installed fine but it wasn't detected by Elan in control panel so I removed it.

Now both the keyboard and touchpad stopped working and Windows says code 19 for keyboard and code 10 for touchpad. A USB mouse works fine. I've reinstalled both with Device Manager without success. Now the netbook is almost useless

A:Netbook keyboard and touchpad stopped working

Reinstalled twice the Elan driver and now both it and keyboard work I don't know what does the KB have to do with the touchpad...
Now I will try to fix the aforementioned bug when edge scrolling

I dropped my netbook onto a hard wooden floor and now the touchpad doesn't work. In retrospect I guess I should be grateful it still works at all, but I need the touchpad. It's a very small 10.1" Acer. Any ideas on how to mend?

A:My netbook's touchpad died after I dropped it; any ideas on how to fix?

have you any technical knowledge of computers if so you need to take it apart and have a look to see if your connector from your mother to your touchpad is not damaged in anyway if it is your may need either a new touch pad or connector.

Hi, am going to buy a Netbook, only thing is, I don't know anything about them! I want it to have a 6 cel battery; XP; 160GB HD (oops) and a cam. At least I GB ram

Two I have been looking at are the ACER AOD150 and the LG x110, are these two any good?

Anything else I should look at while deciding which one to buy, other than colour?

A:Netbook - ACER or....?

ok first off you want a 120GB hard drive, as 120GB of ram is quite far in to the future.
simply put ram is the amount of stuff your computer can think about at once, and Hard drive space Is were programs and data is stored for a longer period of time.

this link below fits but I would really consider something newer with vista or a desktop with XP, or wait till windows 7 comes out and you wont have to worry about upgrading for 3 - 4 years.

If you would like to consider a desktop I do build and sell very powerful systems for a lot less then you might expect, you are more than free to ask me for a quote if that interest you.

I just puchased a netbook Acer Aspire 722-BZ197 x64 with W7 Home Premium SP1 installed.

Since there is no CD/DVD drive there is a Recovery Management pgm installed and they recommend a 12GB USB Flash Drive for a factory backup of the OS. In addition, they recommend another USB for drivers and files. I did all that and had no problem.

I have 3 other laptops in the house for kids schoolwork with W7 HP. Can I use the USB 12GB flash drive I made on the Acer to recover the OS with the other laptops if needed.

A:Acer Netbook Recovery

Flash drives don't come in 12GB sizes. Did you buy a 16GB drive?

No, you can't use it on other computers. You need to put the drive in a safe place and not use it for anything else or you'll run the risk of losing the ability to recover the laptop.

Good Morning All,

I have an Acer netbook, running XP home and it's 3 years old this month. This past July it suddenly stopped working on battery power however, it would operate on the AC adapter. After some research I discovered there appears there is/was a problem with some Acer netbooks having battery issues like mine and solution offer by Acer support is to update the BIOS. Knowing how limited the life of a laptop battery, I opted to purchase another, longer life batter and that seemed to be the answer as it started working just fine on the new battery.

Now it's doing the same as in July, not working on the battery with the orange battery light flashing, indicating the battery is not taking a charge however it would work on the AC adapter.
It was last used about 2 to 3 weeks ago however the battery was fully charged before this period of non-use.
Thinking this problem is related to the BIOS issue, I followed the instructions in downloading the BIOS update, transferring the 2 needed files to my flash drive as well as renaming one of the files. I attempted to upload the BIOS update multiple times again, following the instructions to the word with no luck as the computer would restart as normal, with the computer using the AC adapter. I then looked at the 2 files on the flash drive and noticed both of them ended with a .VEM and that file extension (if that is the correct term) is not mentioned in any of the info researched so, the .VEM was deleted on both files.

hopefully someone here can help me. I have a acer netbook. kav10 d150. I got a nasty virus that AVG picked up a a trogen. I (supposedly) healed it but problems have persisted since.

whats happening is my CPU is fluctuating. sometimes its low 13% and sometimes it spikes 100%. I can browse the internet ok. I can watch youtube videos no problem. but when i try to watch netflix, my browser freezes and cpu usage spikes. Ive unistalled and re-installed microsoft silver light (for netflix) and it didnt do anything.

also. internet explorer doesnt work anymore. it opens and closes right away when I click on it.

Ive scanned my pc with adaware, spybot, avg, kaspersky. and come up clean.

so, ive given up trying to fix the problem and tried to just reformat the netbook alltogether. but when I hit alt f10 on boot I get a screen saying "edit boot options" . looks like the bios screen but grey/black. say hit enter or esc. Hitting esc or enter do nothing.

any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.
