IdeaPad Z510 States power supply to weak

Q: IdeaPad Z510 States power supply to weak

Purcahsed a IdeaPad Z510 a week ago direct from lenovo. After a fresh reboot everytime it's on A/C power and i go to the desktop I recieve a dialog message telling me the power supply is insufficient and needs to be upgraded. I can either close the window or click buy and it takes me to the lenovo website. I think lenovo should be sending me a new power supply or computer. I am trying to contact them directly too, but it seems I have to pay to talk to someone with a brand new computer????

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought my Ideapad Z510 in March 2014, its Windows 8.1. Last few days it shows "battery is weak, needs to be replaced". The battery does not charge, I have to power through AC cable, whenever I disconnect AC, its power is gone. In order to fix the problem, I did the following taks:1. I removed MIcrosoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and also Microsoft AC Adapter from Battery option. But after restarting the laptop, those options always reinstalled automatically without notifying. When I open Device Manager, those options are always there though those are removed and laptop is restarted.2. I reset the Gauge, but nothing happened.  I cannot understand why Lenovo provides such a poor quality battery. It is gone after 1 year!!! I cannot believe it! I have 10 years old DELL laptop and still I can use that battery for an hour. But my new Lenovo's battery has gone just after 1 year! Its a shame. Lenovo should respond about explanation that why they provide such poor quality battery. Any idea about resolving it?

A:ideapad Z510 "battery weak" issue

I have the same issue, bought the laptop around march of last year, and started experiencing the problems during the start of June.  I've seen many topics with this issue, with the same response from Mods and Admins. It's basically a substandard battery issue, and the only solution Lenovo gives us is to replace the battery (which are expensive with the relative cost of the laptop), and that doesn't even give us assurance that this issue will not happen again in a year or so. Very disappointing.

I had a power supply issue a few months ago. My dad replaced it with a new POWORK 600W power supply but since then we've noticed that the USB ports no longer function properly. We'll plug a device in but some devices aren't recgnozed at all. Some will but will show the "USB device not recognized error." Others will show the error message too but not work. The motherboard is a Intel Desktop Board D945GCNL. Does anyone know why this might be?

Occasionally...I'll go into "my computer" and see just the HDD and the floppy...the DVD Rom and burner(they share the secondary IDE) are missing. They are also missing in "device manager". (no error codes in DM...just no entry for CDroms). If I look at properties of secondary IDE...it does not show any problems...just has nothing connected to it. A reboot usually fixes this...but it is happening more often now...and one time, reboot did not work. On that occasion I went into BIOS and the CD roms were not detected...I turned off, unplugged and turned on again and they were back.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Doing charge cycles of full to empty can be hard on a laptop battery.  If you are going to have the laptop plugged in and you will be working on it for a extended period of time then why not take advantage of the Conservation Mode option that the Lenovo Settings app has to offer.  With the Conservation Mode enabled it will maintain your battery's charge in the 55 to 60% range rather than continually charging it to 100%.  This will help extend the overall life of the battery.  In the event you can foresee the need to go portable then switch the Conservation Mode Off and let it fully charge.

Hi guys, looking for help. I tried to plug my Ac power supply to my laptop, and I can't power on my laptop. However, when I try using my battery instead of Ac, the laptop manage to power on. Then, I try to plug in Ac power supply into the laptop inserted with battery. The battery icon shows the plug icon and charging status BUT it's not charging at all! And the battery percentage keep dropping.  I had tried to-reset my laptop.-downgrade from windows 10 to 8.1-reinstall battery driver at device manager-press for 45sec power button But the problem still remain unsolved. My Ac power supply and battery are not in defect, doubting the hardware insd laptop. Please help me. Unfortunately my warranty just expired half year ago. Is thr any way to solve the problem? Thank you!!

A:Ideapad Y510P fail to open with AC power supply

Hi Kaney510p,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can follow the "Power Checkout Guidelines" from the hardware manual here on page 21-22.

Without the battery and directly plugging the AC charger should allow you to power on the machine, else would indicate systemboard issue. Before jumping on probable motherboard replacement other parts may also be considered like DC in port, board and cable.

Otherwise, try to double check the AC charger integrity as described in the manual (Checking the AC adapter page 21) using a volt meter or better yet with a compatible charger like a universal charger.  Using the same charger on a different device can be done alternatively.

Use the laptop with only the battery until it is drained to 20%.
With the battery drained should show blinking amber on the battery indicator.
Connect the charger for 2-3 hours taking note of the battery indicator (without powering the laptop.
This should change from initial blinking amber to white as a normal operational charging.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Dear community, After 15 months of usage, my Ideapad 100s' batteries did the "balloon stunt". For now, I disposed of the swollen battery pack and consider whether I want repair/a new battery pack. In the meanwhile, it would be nice if I could use the notebook via the mains power only - but it won't turn on. Would anyone perchance know, whether the Ideapad 100s could - at least in principle - run in the absence of a battery pack via its (5V 4amp) external power supply, assuming that all other components are present and functional? Or does the Ideapad 100s run exclusively from the battery in any circumstance? (If it should be able to run from the mains, it might be worthwhile to look for a different power supply.) Thank you very much for your help! Best, Martin

I am afraid it might not be working proberly like before.  And my last question can I buy only specific parts of the keyboard? my cat removed two buttons of my keyboard and it is too expensive to replace the whole keyboard with the backlit because it's working perfectly fine! Thank you.

A:ideapad Z510 - turns on only if plugged in

Hi leocasasola,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can start with the power check out guide from the hardware manual (page 21-22) testing on the integrity of the AC adapter and operational charging to isolate.

Further steps may require certain tools and skill as board level checking (power board , systemboard ports and chips etc.), so it would be best that you take time to back up your data while you can and check on your local service center.

Hi all, I bought a used Z510 off Ebay a couple of days ago as a small upgrade from my Z500. I have a modded whitelist removed BIOS on the Z500 and use an Intel 7260ac WLAN card. Now just learnt that modded BIOS's cannot be flashed on the Z510 without hardware programming. I'm so annoyed at Lenovo for this selfish restriction and I'd seriously consider ever buying their products again. My question is: are there any 802.11ac WLAN cards that will work on this model? I've looked in the Hardware Maintenance Manual and all I can see are BGN cards, not AC. I've seen a Broadcom AC card mentioned in a thread but the model number was not given. PS: Does anyone know if the screen brightness issue was solved if one uses a FHD screen on a Z500? I know the Intel HD4000 drivers caused the issue but this thread seems to suggest that using a FHD screen reproduces the problem. Thanks a lot!Andrew

Hi everyone, I bought my Z510 notebook about 2 years ago and this problem started about 2 weeks ago. A significat drop on performance occured when playing games that previously had no problem to run smoothly. It's quite annoying because now it's impossible for my games to run fluently - instead they almost run frame by frame like I had too weak graphic card.. It happened suddenly - one day it was OK and the other everything went down.I cannot watch YouTube videos in 1080p quality. 720p is max and if I chose higher quality, videos cannot run smoothly - the situation is almost the same like with my games. Video needs to take some time to load for about 2-3 seconds - it also lasts for about 2-3seconds.My notebook also needs much more time to start up and switch off. It used to be a copule of seconds and now I feel like this time has doubled. In general, my PC works slower.I scanned it for viruses a copule of times and even reinstalled Windows. Nothing helped. What is happening? Is it because of the graphic card or is it because built-in technology making the hardware obsolete and forcing buying a new PC? In advance thanks for You help.

Hey folks, From around mid August til today, my ideapad z510  has gone through at least 4 or 5 automatic Windows updates. I'm currently on Windows 10 after the free upgrade when Window first introduced it. The first of the 4 or 5 automatic updates happened in Auguest where after updating the screen went into a bootloop with the dotted circle at the bottom of the screen just going in circles forever. I forced the shutdown and after restarting it, it seemed to pick up and reboot just fine. However yesterday, another automatic update happened but this time, it's in a forever bootloop. I've tried restarting it several times with no success. I've tried using the Novo button to reboot to a past savings point with no success. I'm at a point where I have to reset the laptop to its initial out of box state but dont want to lose any files, pictures, and data I currently have. Is there any other troubleshoot options I may have missed? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone, posting this here as well just in case...So just the other day I (finally) upgraded my Lenovo Ideapad Z510 from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. So far, I'm pretty happy about it, so I'm definitely not regretting it, but there is one thing that it's starting to frustrate me. Basically, when the computer is idle, the screen doesn't turn off after the set amount of time (I have it at 5 minutes on battery, 10 minutes if connected to the AC charger), and the laptop doesn't go to sleep either (it should do so after 10 minutes on battery, 30 minutes with the AC charger). It's really annoying, and I can't figure out why. I have tried to change the settings, disable apps and programs and such, but nothing has solved the problem so far. After looking it up on google, I read about people who had this issue and apparently it was caused by some USB gaming controller connected to the computer. I have no such thing though, the only USB device I have plugged in is my wireless mouse (Logitech). I did try to remove it in case that was the problem, but unfortunately nothing changed: when inactive, the computer still doesn't turn off the screen nor it goes to sleep. I have noticed that if I leave it idle for a while, say 1 or 2 minutes, at one point the brightness decreases slightly for, like, less than a second, and then it goes back to normal, as if someone touched the mouse to "wake up" the laptop (but clearly no one touched anything). Did this ha...
