Thinkpad x280 - dual monitor

Q: Thinkpad x280 - dual monitor

I would like to connect two 24in monitors to extend the display across the two screens. The user manual states that if you connect a monitor to both the HDMI and USBC then USBC will have priority. I could not find any explanation as to how two monitors can be connected to enable extended display. I assume one option is to purchase a docking station but I am hoping there is a less expensive option. Any help would be much appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am not sure if I'm posting this question in the right section. After signing up, I found it very difficult to work out where to post! Anyway, I am thinking of buying either an Ideapad 720s (13", core i7 8th Gen, 8GB Ram, 256 GB SSD) or a Thinkpad x280 (12", core i7 8th Gen, 8GB Ram, 512 GB SSD), and I believe they both have Thunderbolt 3. So I was wondering if there are significant differences between them. Where I am, the Ideapad is around the $1,000 mark, while the Thinkpad is about $400 more expensive. Is the Thinkpad really that much better, and if so, how? Thank you.

I have the new ThinkPad x280. I need to be able to connect using a SIM card. My model is 20KF 001LV.  I am trying to figure out if my laptop model supports the SIM option, if it has a nano-SIM card slot or not. There is no indication or way to see in the settings.

A:Thinkpad X280 - nano-SIM card

X280 have a dual nanoSIM and microSD card tray located at the back of the case (check HMM on page 82 for more information). In order to use WWAN Internet connection, you also need a proper WWAN modem installed on the motherboard. Check if Fibocom L830-EB or Fibocom L850-GL is listed in Device Manager.

Hello!I try to configure ThinkPad X280 with 16Gb RAM and cheapest processor  i5-8250U, but it is not allowed. Is it marketing or techical feature? Can I upgrade X280's RAM from 8 to 16 in future, if I buy cheapest version now?

A:ThinkPad X280: i5-8250U + 16Gb?

The X280 has RAM soldered to the main board so it can't be expanded or swapped out. If you need 16GB, buy the one with 16GB RAM.

tl;dr Is the Thinkpad x280 flawless for Ubuntu 18.04? Hello. I recently acquired myself a X1 Yoga 3rd gen with the hopes that I would have a nice experience running Ubuntu. Unfortunately, from day one I encountered issues with it: X1 Carbon Gen 6 cannot enter deep sleep (S3 state aka Suspend-to-RAM) on Linuxhttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/X1-Carbon-Gen-6-cannot-enter-deep-sleep-S3-state-aka-S... Touchpad and trackpad work erratically after I close and open the laptop's lid (suspending and resuming). I need to reboot everytime.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/Thinkpad-X1-Carbon-Yoga-3rd-eratic-Mouse-and-Keyboard-... Others that I found about online after acquiring the machine:FYI - Linux May Not Support Thunderbolt Native Mode (seems to be solved)https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/FYI-Linux-May-Not-Support-Thunderbolt-Native-Mode/m-p/... Linux throttling bug (T480s)https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/870u0a/t480s_linux_throttling_bug/ And from Linux's side, poor consideration for touchscreens. Sadly, I have no choice but to return this machine next week. I feel these are nice machines in theory, and I would be willing to give them one more try. I was considering the Thinkpad x280 and I want to run Ubuntu 18.04 again. I would like to ask if any of these issues persist, or any other issues I'm not aware of show up when running Ubuntu, or any other Linux distro.

Hello all, Long time thinkpad user from the W700 time haha. Just wanted to drop a line after recently getting a thinkpad x270 instead of the x280. I got a little worried with the design philosophy of the thinkpad x270 --> x280 lineage.  I got the x270 because of the bigger removable battery capacity along with the ethernet port among other ports.  I welcome the usb-c port in the x270 and glad to see more of that in the x280. But the fact that the x280 does not have an ethernet port along with a non-removable battery with the option to add the huge super cylindrical battery was a deal breaker for me and I see that the x280 was a step backwards in terms of a design / functionality standpoint from the x270. I am just getting a little bit worried about the design team and their vision for what the x2## series have in the future. The x280 seems to be just a cheaper version of the x1 carbon.  I have the x1 carbon btw lol. Got a few thinkpads... and I like the design for the x1 carbon and i think that to remain as it is...for the thinkpad x1 carbon. I dont want that spilling over into the x2## series. That is supposed to be a pure work horse mobile productivity device.  Anyway what do you guys all think about the direction which the x280 is taking from the x270 which I thought (referencing to the x270) was a pure great work horse laptop with an AMAZING battery life which is absolutely CRITICAL to the x200 line of thinkpa... Hi all!I need to know the part numbers for the smartcard reader and for the connection cable (I think it is a separate part nr.) as my X280 came with no smartcard reader and it is useful for me.Can anyone help me with this, please?Do you know a trutworthy reseller in Europe where I can purchase it from? Thanks in advanceRM

A:ThinkPad X280 - Smartcard reader part nr.

See HMM(hardware maintenance manual) Page 58 and 81.  That should help you.
As for part numbers try parts lookup.  In the left column Choose "Cards Misc Internal" for smart card reader.  Choose "Cables Internal" for the cable.
As to where to buy you can try Lenovo or once you have part numbers maybe online?
Hope the above helps.

Hi everyone, I was setting up my brandnew X280 and after installing Windows 10 Pro I downloaded Lenovo System Update tool. It proposed a number of updates including a BIOS update and I let it do its job.Last I recall was the window about BIOS update where I hit enter (or ok).The noteboks was sitting in a docking station, battery fully charged. Next time I checked the progress the screen is black and the white power LED is slowly flashing (like being in standby). However I can't wake it up. It will just keep flashing.  As I can't take out the battery on a X280 what can I do? Pressing the power button for an extended period of time didn't do anything. Is there a hidden key stroke combination or do I have to wait a couple of days (weeks) until the battery has run out? I'm afraid the BIOS update failed and the system is bricked, even though I followed the instructions by the letter. Any suggestions are more than welcome! Thanks. Q.

Hi there, when I undock my X280 from the Ultra dock (notebook closed but running) and open the lid the device will not respond to keyboard or trackpoint input.I need to close the lid again which triggers entering 'energy saving' mode. Then opening the lid again will resume everything to normal. I can reproduce this every time on two identical Docks. Funny thing is, my wifes identical X280 does not show this behaviour but works fine. Any idea what I could try to solve this small (but a bit annoying issue)?Thanks.Q.

Hi. I got my custom order X280 In July with all features for office purposes and use it just 15 times since then. The battery was never drain in shutdown mode in the first days of use. I remember that after one week being off the battery had the same percentage of charge at restart in the first month of use. Since then whenever I start it I check in Vantage if there are updates and I made the necessary updates every time, Windows updates, System updates, Bios etc. By about two weeks I noticed the battery is discharging between 6 and 8 percent overnight which is quite frustrating and annoying for a three month product. Something happened which consume the power overnight when is turned off. If they are Lenovo employees on the forum please advise me what to do. I would like to know is there is a warranty defect, something that can be fixed by the following updates or something that I can personally change in order everything come back to normal. PS. I have the USB ON disabled from Vantage Thank you.

Hello,I bought new X280 which has proprietary connector called Ethernet Extension Adapter Gen 2. I bought it to leave other ports ready for other adapters, but I have found out, that there is another USB-C port very close next to this ethernet port and when I put ethernet adapter into laptop's proprietary port, there is no space to put second USB-C connector. My question is: If I cut the border of Ethernet Extension Adapter connector, will the USB-C work? Or is there any reason to not to do that? Many thanks.

I just bought the Thunderbolt 3 dock and remembered reading that you have to make some changes in BIOS for the usb hub to be detected in linux. So I entered BIOS and disabled thunderbolt security and enabled some other thunderbolt feature (the one below thunderbolt security, the tooltip tells you to enable this for linux support and older versions of windows 10).
After saving and rebooting all I see is a blank screen and the fans start going at full speed.
The computer does not boot into my OS and I am not able to enter BIOS again.
Any ideas how I can fix this?
Is there a way to factory reset the BIOS without entering it? Usual solution here is to remove the CMOS battery but I really don't want to open my brand new laptop unless I know my warranty is still valid.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:ThinkPad X280: After BIOS update, notebook won't boot anymore

It is not very difficult to remove the CMOS/Coin Cell battery on that system, just remove the main battery, and then loosen 3 screws to open the large bottom cover (see page 73 of the ThinkPad E560 and E565 Hardware Maintenance Manual for details on removing the cover)    Once the cover is open, unplug the CMOS/Coin Cell battery (you don't actually have to remove the battery), wait a few minutes and then plug it back in (see page 81 of the HMM for details). Doing so will not effect your warranty, but don't force anything and keep track of the screws.

Hello everyone, this machine has given me trouble since day 1! It showed a strange behaviour when docked or out-docked such as wouldn't recognize the external monitor, then again it would; would alwys need an additional standby when undocked so that the mouse would respond and so on. I have two identical machines and two identical docks for my mife and myself. the other one is working fine. switching the dock, the cables didn't change anything - so it is clearly this one X280. Now things have got worse - which actually might help. So far I thought it is a driver/SW thing which led to the sporadic behaviour. But now the X280 will completely refuse to connect to an external monitor and will also be unusable while it tries to establish a connection. In Windows 10 'Settings->Devices->Bluetooth & other' I can see an entry 'PnP-Monitor (Standard)' briefly popping up and disappearing again. I even recorded a video that shows the entry popping up for a split second and disappearing again and this will go forever. This will happen with both DP ports on the CS18 dock as well as the HDMI port. When I connect the display via HDMI directly to the X280 the external monitor is recognized fine. I guess there is a HW issue on this machine that became worse and is now permanently broken. Anything I can do or try or should I ask for on-site support? ThanksQ.

I have HP Desktop Tower Pavilion with windows 10, I had two HP S2031 monitors in dual mode, worked fine. One of them died, I got a good deal on a larger HP 27er monitor.  I hooked it up, they were both working fine ... it was using a default monitor
setting ... and then yesterday the computer downloaded some updates, and in doing so, it downloaded the driver for the HP 27er and installed.  The next thing that happens is the older HP S2031 starts to go dark ... like it is going into sleep mode, and
then it is totally black.  On reboot, it starts up with both monitors working, but within seconds of reboot the HP S2031 goes black again. The HP S2031's buttons do nothing, other than the power button, which turns it off and on, but that is it.
I have done all troubleshooting, I did not even have them set up to sleep, all settings are at NEVER.  In coming here, I have done all the fixes I can find for similar  that are posted for similar issues, the Windows Key + W... nothing.
The create new power plan ... nothing.  the device manger>display adapters>disable then enable ... nothing.  and lastly Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>display adapter>driver tap>update ... still nothing.  HOW
DO I GET THE HP S2031 MONITOR TO NOT BE IN SLEEP AND HAVE BLACK SCREEN.  I can not figure this out and am not finding any fix.

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

Anyway to resolve this?

hello all,

1. How do i install a 2nd monitor and my graphics card has one output?!! Actually it has the normal o/p that accepts monitor's cables and another o/p that i'm still figuring it out

2. If i suceeded in installing a 2nd monitor, how can i turn my PC into a server (or 2 PCs-in-1) ? In other words, how can i and my brother use the same PC AT THE SAME TIME, such that, he's using one monitor and i'm using the other and we have two sets of terminal devices, i.e. two keyboards and two mice?

1) That second output may be DVI, or S-Video, what does it look like? If it has a lot of holes, it's DVI(newer LCD monitors) if it's black and has 4(i think) holes and a rectangular hole, it's S-Video and goes to a regular TV.

2) I don't think that's possible with one PC, but I could very well(and probably am) be wrong.

I also couldn't install a newer driver from Intel ( In both cases Windows or the Intel installer stopped me saying the mfr provided the drivers and that the installed version was up to date. I worked around by first rolling back the Intel driver. The manual (.zip) install of the latest intel driver worked. This immediately fixed the Dell u2415 on DP port 1 and laptop's built-in DP port.

I recently got a monitor from one of my friends saying that it was broken. Its a Dell 19in LCD. I have my main monitor a 22in Samsung wide screen So i just plugged it into the second DVI slot on my graphics Card. When i went into the display config i set up dual monitors just to see if it was working. The dell monitor would blink up then quit on me.

When i was messing with the Display settings I made the Dell. Not my Samsung the Default Monitor. I unpluged the broken Dell and restarted. Now my computer regognizes the Samsung as the second monitor and it just shuts it off and recognizes nothing as the main.

I managed to get it into safe mode and it recognized the samsung but every time i try go back to Normal Start the screen is blank.

How can i get it to recognize the Samsung as my main?

Hello I basically need conformation that I'll need to buy a new monitor in order to have a dual monitor set up with my current system. I'm not super tech savvy so if you need any other info please let me know.

I have a Radeon HD 6670 with 3 ports, an HMID, VGA (which is my monitors type) and DVI. Each port has a stamp next to it that indicates what port type it is/supports (the VGA has a CRI stamp next to it though). My main VGA monitor works fine with the VGA/CRI port, but my second I have to use a VGA to DVI adapter and it's not working.

I've gone through a lot of forums, and found some conflicting information. So I really want to know is it possible to use a converter/adapter or will I need to just go out and buy a new monitor that has a DVI hook up?

I hope I don't need a new monitor, I'm on a very tight budget. (la sigh)

A:Radeon HD 6670 Dual Monitor setup not detecting 2nd monitor

I would try one of these before giving up on the monitor:

Rosewill 10ft. DVI-A (24+5) Male to HD15 VGA Male Analog Video Cable w/ Ferrites Cores, Model RCW-900 - Newegg.com

Forget adapters, you might not a have a compatible one, the DVI connector has many variants.

Look at that cable end and make sure it would fit on your video card's female DVI connector (it should), it's DVI-A (analog only) to VGA which is analog only....

I recently bought a DVI cable to plug my external LG monitor to my laptop to run nVidia's DualView (stretch format) across the two monitors. I'm using a beta driver (169.04 from laptopvideo2go.com), and when I enter nVidia control panel and go into the setup additional monitors tab, it only lets me choose "choose only ONE monitor". So I did that just to test that my monitor was plugged in right, and it worked. So I KNOW that my monitor is working and is being recognized by Vista. But when going into display settings byt right clicking on my desktop, it also only recognizes 1 monitor. Is it my beta display driver messing my Vista up? Or what could it be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

A:Solved: Dual monitor in Vista not working. Only showing 1 monitor.

for drivers to work properly in vista i'm pretty sure you have to have signed drivers, since it's beta are you sure they are signed?

I cannot get the second monitor to detect in any configuration. Tried looking in BIOS of MB, using 2nd DVI (w/ vga adapter) on Radeon card.

Am at a loss and I hope I have provided enough information for some assistance.

I cannot get the second monitor to detect in any configuration. Tried looking in BIOS of MB, using 2nd DVI (w/ vga adapter) on Radeon card.

I don't understand why you are using a combination of DVI (to VGA) out of your HD6670 to one monitor, and also using the VGA out of your motherboard to the other monitor.

Am I interpreting what you've done correctly? You are using just the DVI output from your HD6670 through a DVI-to-VGA adapter and on to your first monitor, and also using the VGA output from the onboard graphics of the motherboard to feed the second monitor? If so, this is very wrong.

Your new HD6670 has TWO video outputs of its own: one is DVI, and the other is VGA. You should connect your second analog monitor to the VGA output of the HD6670, not to the onboard graphics VGA output.

Also, if you can disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS that's definitely what you should do when you install an external video card as you've done. At the very least you should give priority to the new PCIe video over PCI (which was your old GeForce card, and probably o... Read more

I've been running a multi-monitor setup for a while now, with an ASUS VG248QE 144Hz monitor as my main, and one or more spare monitors as secondary displays. I've set the ASUS monitor to 144Hz without issue in the past, while the other monitors stay at 60Hz.

The other night, Windows wanted to update. I figured it was the usual patch session, so I let it do its thing. However, after restarting my computer, I noticed that my ASUS monitor would only operate at 144Hz if it was the only monitor plugged into the system. When I try to set it higher in the Nvidia control panel, it just reverts back to 60Hz after applying changes. I updated my graphics drivers (though I was only one version behind) and even sought a special ASUS driver for the monitor to resolve the issue, but nothing has helped.

Did Windows recently add a forced refresh rate sync between all monitors recently? If so, that really sucks because I only own one 144Hz monitor.

A:Dual monitor setup locks 144Hz monitor at 60Hz

Are you sure the other monitors are independent (dual or multiple mode) rather than cloning the main monitor? If they clone the main monitor, then this explains the 60Hz refresh rate, as all settings (resolution, color depth, refresh rate) should be common for all monitors and the others can only do 60Hz.

About 6 months ago i invested in a second video card to use with an old monitor and a new PC. After much trial and error i eventually got it all working.

A couple of days ago i re-installed windows however and therefore all my settings have been reset and am now havein problems, and if i remember rightly the same ones as before. But for the life of me i cant figure out how to solve them this time round. So any help would be appreciated.

Spec -

2x plug and play monitor (almost sure it has nothing to do with these so wont add details)

1x Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 (AGP) with fully updated drivers (from manufacturers website) (the monitor off this video card works fine)

1x ATI Radeon 7000 (PCI) fully updated drivers (without catylist command centre however due to some installation problems. I had these before when both monitors worked fine..just the drivers) - Problematic monitor

Bios - Dell Computer Corporation A12 (newly updated) (I heard somewhere that this may have an effect).

The Problem-
On my second monitor (Radeon 7000 (PCI) whenever i try to move a frame, scroll in IE etc the refresh rate is appaling. Entire lines get moved at a time.
The only time the refersh rate does not slow is when moving the mouse and scrolling through files in c drive as far as i can tell. If i switch my primary monitor to this one and stop the monitor 'extension' it still flickers. Ive checked my monitors by changing which card they use and as expected, th... Read more

A:Dual monitor problems- second monitor refresh times dreadful

Well, could be bad drivers... nvidia and ATI hate eachother, so I dunno why you got cards like that, could be a driver conflict from un-updated windows files, that is to say, uninstall drivers, update everything on windows, re-install newest drivers.

I have an ATI Radeon 4670 card. I have not had trouble getting it to "Dual Display" in the past. Usually I wanted to do an extended display. I am now trying to get it set up with my HDTV with HDMI. I have added the Realtech drivers and HDMI adapter to the video card and have been able to get HDMI and digital sound to the HDTV, I am trying to get the two displayed as clones.

The problem I am having is after getting Catalyst to display the HDTV, I have lost the image on the monitor. In the process of trying to get it back to both displays I have accidently made the HDTV an extension of the monitor. Which is really a cluster as I can not get to the control panel to make any changes. All I have is the extension showing on the big TV but none of the controls. I tried rebooting in safe mode but was unable to access the catalyst control center as it did not boot in safe mode. The big plus is that in safe mode both screens are visible, but I can not undo the Catalyst settings. I am now running a system restore which will take me back to tomorrow settings, which is not ideal but better than not being able to access anything outside of safe mode.

How do I get the TV and monitor to display at the same time?

Whenever my computer recovers from sleep mode, or when the screensaver comes on and I wake it up, I find that all my apps are now on my main monitor.

Example: Google Chrome and Skype on Monitor 1.
Microsoft Word and MSI Afterburner on Monitor 2.

-computer sleeps/ screen saver turns on-
-I wake the computer up-

Google Chrome, Skype, Microsoft Word, and MSI Afterburner are on Monitor 1.
Nothing on Monitor 2.

Is it possible to fix this?

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Using DisplayFusion Pro v5.0.1 to extend my taskbar to the second monitor.

GPU: r9 290
CPU: i5 4670k @ 4.2 Ghz
Mobo: ASUS z87 sabertooth TUF series
PSU: Corsair TX-CMPSU 650W

A:After dual monitor sleep recovery, all apps shift to one monitor

I've had dual monitors for years now and have never had this problem. But I also have no screen saver.

If you put your system to sleep why would you want a screen saver? All that does is keep the system active and running - which is the opposite of what sleep does.

Remove the scree saver and see what happens.

Running dual monitors in Win 10 and when going through the Color calibration steps on monitor #2 (Control panel / Display / Calibrate color) the settings stick as long as the 2nd monitor is active.

If I switch to single display (Windows Key + P / PC Screen only) then the 2nd monitor loses its color calibration. Also anytime I reboot my PC (Even if I have both monitors active) the 2nd monitor loses my calibration.

The 2nd monitor has a fairly strong bias for the color Green so I can always tell right away.

I'm probably overlooking something and was hoping someone might of dealt with this before

I'm currently using two 4:3 monitors of my PC, and I'd like to substitute them with one big wide screen monitor. The only thing I'm worry about is that I won't be able to have different "spaces" for my windows that they could expand to (so I could have, for example, my e-mail on the right part, and my browser on the left).

All I've found so far are virtual desktop software, but that's not what I need. I'm looking for something that splits the visible desktop into multiple parts.

Any ideas? I'm using Vista by the way
Appreciate your help

Right click on your desktop, select Screen Resolution, then click on the screen you want to make primary. Select Multiple Displays, and it should be there!

I've searched some forums and while i have found all sorts of dual monitor problems i haven't found this one.

I have a MSI M670 laptop ( with nvidia 6100Go graphics card ) and a Samsung SyncMaster T240HD. I always connected my monitor with a VGA cable on my windows xp and everything worked fine.
After i've installed Windows 7 when i connect the monitor to my laptop automatically the laptop monitor is disabled and the Samsung becomes the primary display.
If i press windows_key+P Computer Only is selected and whatever i select from the list ( duplicate, extend, projector only ) nothing happens and Computer Only is always selected.

In the Nvidia panel under the "Set up multiple displays" option after i connect the Samsung it becomes the only option so i cannot revert to my laptop display whatever i do.
Rigurous Display Detection does not help at all.

Any ideas ?

i have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up.

i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor.

even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box.

i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

if anyone can walk me through how to fix this (im not very good with computers, beyond playing games it would be appreciated.

im on my gf's mac right now to write this post, as my pc cant do anything at the moment.

I recently purchased another monitor so I can run dual-monitors on my newly upgraded-to Windows 8 desktop. I set the monitor up last night, and I haven't had any major issues so far... One issue that I've run into, though, is the secondary monitor (regardless whether it's the monitor I owned first or the one I just bought) flashes randomly. Last night, a restart fixed the issue, so I didn't think anything of it. Today when I started it up, it was fine again for about 5-10 minutes. Then it began to flash randomly. It's not a constant steady flash, it only happens once every 3-10 minutes, but it shouldn't be happening. Does anyone else have the same problem and/or have suggestions on how to fix it?

Add'l info:

Monitors (both connected via HDMI, primary to primary gfx card, secondary to secondary gfx card)
1x Asus VW246H 24"
1x Asus VE248H 24"

Both set to 1920x1080p resolution, left as primary, right as secondary.

Here is my problem. I have a primary monitor and then I run S-Video out to the TV so I can watch video clips.

With Vista, I had no trouble starting a video clip in media player on the primary screen and then dragging it over to the second monitor (TV) for actual viewing.
However, I tried to do that with Windows 7-it won't let me drag Media Player over to the second monitor. I can drag other applications to the second Window (Word, Browsers), but not any media program. Even tried another media player application.

Not sure what to do-how can I get this to work? I want to be able to watch TV/Movies on my second monitor.

I have just did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate from XP and I am unable to get my dual monitors to work like they did in XP.

I have a DVI Radeon graphics card plugged into the agp slot, and a Nvidia geforce vga adapter plugged into a pci slot of my dell optiplex 755. When I am in the screen resolution settings the second monitor cannot be detected.

In bios I have 2 options under primary video adapter and they are auto, and onboard card. When set to auto the Nvidia card gets a signal but the Radeon does not. There are no conflicts in the device manager, and all of the drivers are up to date.

When I change the bios option to onboard card the Radeon adapter gets a signal but the other monitor cannot be detected and in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Standard VGA adapter and a code 10 error that states the device could not be started.

I have powered down, and unplugged every cable, I also tried to use the integrated VGA adapter to the Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller but the computer will not even boot. I get
"System Halted
Attention Unsupported Video Configuration Detected"

I have two monitors, both work fine as standalones but Windows will not detect either as a secondary.

Please help me someone, I am so used to having my helpdesk email open in one monitor and all of my other work in the other monitor.

A:Dual monitor issue, secondary monitor is undetectable

Try updating your card drivers. Go into Device Manager and right-click on your display adapter.

I suspect that the cards are too old, though. We will see.
