How to copy user accounts in Win8 to online accounts in Win10

Q: How to copy user accounts in Win8 to online accounts in Win10

Hi

I'm surprised that nobody else has this problem, but I've searched and can't find an answer...apologies if I've not looked hard enough but I decided to post a question because this is 'urgent' to me.

I had 2 children's accounts in Win 8, and had local Parental Controls. Upgraded OS to Win 10, and now I can't manage Parental Controls in Win 10 locally, so I 'think' I need to set up 'online Profiles' for them.

However, all their game progress, profile settings, etc are on their local profiles - how can I get all this data to be on their online Profiles? I didn't want to copy and paste folders (such as AppData) without knowing that this was a 'safe' way to do this.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Rgds,
Andy

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hiii everybody,
this is my first ever post in my first forum . That's a disclaimer to ask you guys to forgive me for having very little gray matter :-( .
I have Windows XP HOME SP2 on Intel Celeron 667 MHz and 192MB RAM. I know it doesn't sound like much so I'm always trying to read forums and tweak my settings. But this time, it ended up worse.
I used a program called autoruns.exe to adjust my startup programs so it'll start faster. I'm not sure what I turned off but now
1. It takes longer to start up,
2. I don't see any accounts (not even admin) in Control Panel - User accounts
3. I can access a directory and open files but I can't cut or copy and paste them into another folder.
4. In services.msc, most of the programs under Local with automatic setting don't start and cannot be started. I can't even see the programs under extended.
5. I have a home network but I can't access any of my other computers.
those are a few of laundry list of challenges with my computer (with me ?)
I'm even ready to format and reinstall XP but I need to copy some files before I do that.
I'm sorry for this long post but can you guys help me?

I just did my first PC Prep and transfer of user data from Win Vista to Win 8.1. I moved the user data to the users account (c:\users\"username"). However, I just realized that the Folders shown in File explorer under This PC are for the original user I created - the wrong user. Is there anyway to change this?

Other solutions would be appreciated as well. I want the user to feel the least amount of pain when moving to Win 8. Thanks

A:Win8 Folder Structure and User Accounts

I probably should have mentioned that the original account was a Windows Live account which I am not using. I do not see that user on the Windows login screen but folders were created for it and it is the default for my programs such as Internet Explorer. Right now I have had to copy the users Favorites to the other accounts Favorites folder so the user can use IE.

This is probably something simple - I hope. Also for the record, I am logged in as the user and have been as I've been trying to set up Outlook and IE. Windows 8 keeps bringing me to the original (Windows Live) account.

Quick question:

Is there any obstacle to transferring user account (personal data) from Vista to Windows 8?

Had a PC brought in, power surge killed the PSU and motherboard. Hard drive was fine, explained to client that data was salvageable, client said they would go ahead and shop for a notebook. Copied user account and personal data to USB flash drive. Was in the middle of copying to flash when client walked in with a new PC in the box, HP Pavilion (like the old one) preloaded with Windows 8. Now I must admit I have not worked on windows 8 much. If all the old data is 64 bit there shouldn't be a problem? What about 32 bit files?
Thanks in advance.

I was recently looking on techguy for a similar resolution to the below question in the forum.

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista-7/822354-ccleaner-not-working-when-i.html

I do not have problems using the CC Cleaner in my account (admin) but when I run the cleaner it does not clean Chrome. See, my girl use chrome for her internet browser on her user account and I use Firefox in my admin user account.

IN fact i have this problem in a lot with programs like Tversity, CCleaner and AVG.

Do I have install the program on every User account (hence taking up room on my PC because I am installing the same program twice)?

And when I use virus programs do they sift for infections through all the users etc?

Thanks kindly.

I have never really messed with user accounts. What I'd like is to create one user account and then save it as a template, of sorts. Then, copy the template and rename it for each user.

Clear as mud?

Please let me know any questions you have.

Hi all

I can't find any mention of my problem on this or any other forum. Or at least I don't think I can... Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Here is my set-up:
Linksys DSL modem, connected to an Apple Airport Extreme wireless router. The modem is configured to be the DHCP server, the Airport is set to bridge mode. I have a new Compaq Presario desktop running Vista Home Basic with a Belkin wireless-G USB dongle. All of this discussion is about wireless, btw - I don't have a long enough CAT-5 cable to connect the Airport and PC.

I have 5 users set up on the PC - 1 true, unlocked administrator account and 4 standard users. When I boot up and connect as any of the 4 standard users they automatically detect and connect to the Airport, and receive IP addresses.

But when I change user to be the administrator the connection drops after a few seconds. The Airport network is visible to Vista, because it is in the list of available networks. But if I try to connect to it it fails, and the Vista diagnostic tool tells me it has been unable to connect 'for unknown reason'. One of the standard users used to have admin rights, and that account had exactly the same problem. If I log in from a boot-up as the administrator I also cannot connect to the network.

If the administrator account has been used and logged out the other users cannot connect to the Airport. I have to re-boot before they can connect again.

I also have a MacBook and a Nokia N95, bo... Read more

Hello

I have been chasing up an answer to this problem for a couple of weeks now and have found a number of people with same symptoms but no answer which works.

When I go to the User Accouns page the dialog box for the "Choose the Account you would like to change" is blank.

I am an administrator and there are 2 accounts on my notebook - windows 7 professional.

I can view the accounts through the run command, but would like to know why the dialog is empty and what the fix is for this.

I have done a scan for errors - none found.

Done a complete reinstall - Accounts still not visible.

Looking on a variety of forums, this appears to have been happening to XP and Vista prior to Windows 7.

However none of the fixes for XP or Vista work (Some don't even apply).

Does anyone have a solution for this bug?

Thanks

Hi all

At my company we are currently running a server (with Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard), without Active Directory, and we have a bunch of laptops running Windows 8.1 Pro. Now we want to install Dynamics CRM which requires an Active Directory domain.

I am trying to run through every anticipated problem before I do the domain configuration. The last problem that I anticipate is the following:

Our MD's laptop is currently logging in without a Microsoft account (in other words, he uses a standard local user profile in Windows 8.1 Pro). He has a whole lot of data in this profile from a few years of work. So now, when we configure the domain, obviously he will have to sign in using an Active Directory username and password. So question 1 is, is it possible to synchronize the current local (non-Windows Live) account with the domain account? The second question is, how will this affect his data, settings, etc? And the third question is, when he's working from home, without the domain controller to authenticate logins, will he still be able to access his data and profile? In other words, what I'm really asking is, will we be able to kind of "integrate" the Active Directory account and local account as one account, but the authentication is AD based when he's at the office, but local if he's at home?

Thank you!

A:Possible to "integrate" Win8.1 user accounts with Active Directory?

When you join a domain you get a new user account/profile on the computer. All his data and settings will need to be transferred from the old local account to the new domain account. Once joined to the domain and logged onto the domain users can take the computers offsite and still log onto that same account, the domain does not have to be contacted for logins while offsite., a local account is not needed for offsite use but the previous local accounts will still exist on the laptop. That account if its not going to be used should be disabled for security though.

Now there are tools and a procedure to move a local account to a domain account if you want to give that shot, doesn't always work, and I've never needed to use it. ForensiT User Profile Wizard supposedly works well: http://www.forensit.com/downloads.html
Definitely have a backup in place first.

I have a computer with W10 and it has two accounts.  One of the accounts signs  on to the local server and the other user account signs on to another([email protected])  The latter userid brings up all the icons on the desktop with all the
apps he uses but does not sign on to the local server which then gives them access to the local network.  But when the local server id signs on, he then doesn't get the appl icons on his desktop.  How do I "combine" the two.

My wife has a new laptop with win8 Home pre-installed. She will primarily use a local account, but I want her to have access to the cloud. Therefore I have gotten a Microsoft Account for her which I understand is also necessary to (1) upgrade to Win8.1 and (2) use the cloud features in Win 8.1, too. I obtained a Microsoft Account for her online at Microsoft and thus have an email address/user name and password for her. On her new laptop I have established a local account(password protected) for her called "Lovely". As such her folders are kept in c:\Users\Lovely and her settings are associated with the local account "Lovely". I want to retain the account name "Lovely" as a local account and her folders in C:\Users\Lovely after I first log on with the Microsoft Account for her. I understand if I log on with the Microsoft Account with the user name "Lovely", I won't be able to use "Lovely" as a local account name; i.e, "Lovely will be associated with the Microsoft Account.

My solution to this, and I'd like your input about it, is to rename the local account from "Lovely" to "Lovely Cloud" before log on the first time with the Microsoft Account. If subsequently I want to log on to a local account named "Lovely", I first disconnect from the Microsoft Account and create a local account called "Lovely" which again I will password protect for her. A:Local and MSFT Accounts, Win8.1 Upgrade - Need Some Help

Not being able to elicit any expertise after 5 days, I shall provide some illuminati-ness. Let's start with having changed my wife's user account name from "Lovely" to "Lovely Cloud" and then logging in with the Microsoft Account I created for her. But let me digress. When I created the Microsoft Account, a "First name" and a "Last name" for her were asked for by Microsoft. Well, the account name that appears in Window 8 is "First Name" "Last Name" and underneath that will be the email address that was used to create the account. All of this can be seen by going into Control Panel - User Accounts and from there going into "Make changes to my account in PC settings".

Let's now change to a local account from the Microsoft Account. In PC settings the option will be given to log on with a local account. First you log out of the Microsoft Account. Then it will say create local account, but even though I changed the name of the local account previously from "Lovely" to "Lovely Cloud", it will suggest the account name "Lovely" which is what I wanted all along. The account name "Lovely Cloud" just doesn't exist anymore. Apparently, it wasn't necessary to change the account name from "Lovely" to "Lovely Cloud" after all. You then have to enter a password twice as if you're creating a new local account. Now you're back into a local account with the account ... Read more

I have two different Microsoft accounts on my Win8 machine, which is a laptop. One of them is an account I got from my ISP and has been in use for years but that one is disappearing in a few days (I think) because I cancelled my account with my ISP. The other account is one I created within the last couple of weeks.

In transitioning to the new account, I'm finding it considerably more work than I expected and wonder if I am ignorant of some easier ways of doing things. For instance, I was surprised that the applications installed under the older account aren't visible under the new accounts. Is there an easy way to make them visible or do I really need to reinstall the same applications under the new account from scratch? For example, let's say I have a game like Taptiles on the old account and want it visible under the new account: do I really need to do a fresh install under the new account? Or is there an easier way to be able to play Taptiles from the copy I originally installed under the original account?

Also, what is the easiest way to pass data back and forth between the two accounts? I did a copy within a file on the original account and switched to the second account to paste that information in and was disappointed to find that it was not possible. I ended up sending an email to myself then copied from the email on the newer account. It struck me that there must be a better way but I'm not sure what that would be.

Pick credit cards over debit cards when making payments

This advice might appear a bit surprising to you; however, the fact is that a credit card, unlike
a debit card, would protect you against identity theft. For instance, when using a credit card, the victim remains liable to pay a fraudulent transaction charge of just $50 if the fraud is reported within 30 to 60 days (the number of days might vary from one
lender to another). However, upon becoming a victim of a debit card fraud, the person in question might end up losing the entire amount in his or her checking account. It?s true that on most occasions, victims get a percentage of the lost amount back, but
that could potentially take a very long time.

Hello. Recently, my girlfriend and I, on separate computers have been facing the same problem. Here's how it started out:

My girlfriend lost her account at facebook and gmail, by means of someone changing all her passwords. Along with this, she lost her hotmail accounts too. Any account that was, or is, tied to her gmail account has been compromised. She has lost her free credit report account, and the account on a website that deals with her dog's registration information. Any time she makes an account, or is able to log in to an account, as soon as she logs out, that account is immediately compromised and the passwords are changed. She has emailed gmail and facebook, but they have basically put the "deal with it, tough luck," approach to it.

This had been going on for a couple weeks, and then it started happening to me. First I lost my facebook and gmail, then my hotmail. I then tried to log in to random accounts I had set up such as allthelyrics.com, and a few others, to no avail. All my passwords had been changed over, and my secret questions had also been changed. I even lost my password to this website, and had to make a new one to post this topic. Any time I close, or log out of an account, I lose my password. I can't keep up with whatever is running rampant on my, and our, online accounts. Luckily, my bank account has not been hit yet, although I am going to notifiy the bank about what is going on. When I first started using Win8, I was away from my company domain, so created a local account and set it up the way I like it, i.e. start screen, taskbar, desktop etc.

When I got back onto the domain, I had to create a new domain account, which means I'm now back on the default settings. I've copied the folders from the "user" folder across from one to the other, so I can access all my documents, music, pictures etc, but that didn't copy the settings, recent documents and so on.

Is there a way of getting all of the settings from my local user account copied onto the domain account, so that I don't have to start setting it up again from scratch?

Thanks,

Hi all,

Hoping someone might be able to help. Recently, a few strange things have happened with the PC, which first started when I found I couldn't use the Backup & Recovery software in Windows 7. Whenever I clicked on one of the buttons with a shield, nothing would happen at all. I've looked around and just can't find the solution to this. However, today when trying to fix this, I've come across a new user account in the permissions section. The name is jvactaett - I certainly haven't made this! Does anyone have any ideas how this account has got there, and how I can remove it? It doesn't show in user accounts through Control Panel.

I've put a screenshot as well. To get there, I right clicked a hard drive and went to properties, Security, Add, advanced and then clicked Find Now.

I don't know if the two things above are linked or not...

it is safe due to many sites like quicken and bank sites and paypal having high encryption. they DO store your info but on very secure servers.

Had at least my eBay account hijacked and password changed this morning. I also had problems accessing my Hotmail account so I'm assuming that was hijacked too. Both are now back in my control, and after numerous password changes, a canceled debit card, and spybot/ad-aware/superanti/avg scan later... Here's my HJT log. Could someone please take a look through just in case. I've no idea how the ebay account was hijacked but I know it wasn't phishing, ebay wouldn't confirm brute-force (if it's even possible...) so I can but assume something was on my PC... oh and I was in my first ever earthquake in the early hours. what a day...

Having just got broadband I have a question regarding online activity.

I've noticed that the connection is always active, even if I'm not browsing a web site or emailing. Is this part of the way ADSL works? My initial worries were that I had somehow got some spyware already on my PC. I've done some checking and found a few low risk cookies which have been deleted but nothing else.

If this is part of how ADSL works, then that's fine but I don't want to sit here on-line passing the contents of my PC to all and sundry.

It's not antivirus software or BT Vision. I'm using a basic BT Option 1 package.

Any help suggestions very welcome

This will take some explaining. For the longest time I was able to keep my old Google account and You Tube account as separate and distinct entities. Today, I had to sign out of You Tube. But when I signed back into You Tube, it is linking me to my Google Docs account and I don't want to do that!!!! Do I have to log in and out of Google/You Tube each time to keep the identities separate? This is NUTS!

I just bought my 15 year old son a laptop with Windows 8. I was able to set up my Admin account and his "standard" account, and put a time curfew and limits on his account, but when I logged in as him, I saw that he would be able to create another account which would pretty much defeat the whole time limit thing! Is there a way to prevent all but admin accounts to be able to create more accounts?? I'm pretty technically savvy but this new W8 is not as easy to navigate as the previous versions!! (I wouldn't mind a "classic view" either, if that exists!)

A:prevent all but admin accounts to create more accounts?

Hello cbird, and welcome to Eight Forums.

By default, standard users are not able to create new accounts or do anything that effects anything other than just their user account.

The only way a standard account is able to create a new account is if that standard user entered the administrator's password when prompted by UAC when trying to do so through the Control Panel (icon view) -> User Accounts -> Manage Accounts.

I am using Vista Home Premium 32-bit and I am having problem logging in using my user account. An error flagged "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User Account/Profile cannot be loaded."

The Event Viewer window has these details:

Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.

DETAIL -

I was able to logged in through Safe Mode but still an error flagged in status bar that the profile was not properly loaded.

Although I was able to copy all data from that user account to a new account, can I still troubleshoot the problem and be able to log in using the old user account? I have all my shortcuts and archives there and "every customized thing".

I am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.

Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.

I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured. I would appreciate any thoughts that anyone has this problem.

Hi,

I just discovered that a non-admin MS account on Windows 8.1 can install WinApps from the Store. And that app can install an inbound rule in the Windows Firewall.

To duplicate my findings, create a hotmail account. Then in Windows 8.1 create a non-admin MS account using that hotmail acc just created. Then go to Windows Store and install Energetic Software Free Torrent. Windows 8.1 will not only install that app, but also create an inbound rule allowing traffic to that package.

That app is now a server running on my machine, accepting attacks and all sorts of nastiness.

So I guess that MS is saying that admin accounts are now not required to install software and modify firewall rules.

A:Sacrebleu, non-admin Win8 MS accounts can install apps and open inbound firewall rule

Update.

The reason why non-admin MS accounts can install Win Apps is because Win Apps have to be installed PER USER. That is, each MS Account user has to go to the Store to install her desired Win Apps, and that her installation is not active for other users of the same PC.

But by giving access to the Win Store to everyone, means that any MS account standard user can install Win Apps that modify the Windows Firewall, reducing the PC's security. I have also tried installing some Win App games, and they too create an inbound rule allowing incoming traffic thru the firewall. There are a lot of free stuff in the Win Store, and users will be tempted to install them.

There are 3 solutions.

A) If you have Win 8.1 Pro, you can use Local Security Policy to block the creation of MS Accounts. This means your users cannot use the default built-in Winapps instant messaging app or calendar. or Store, because you need a MS account to use them.

B) You can block access to the Win Store with a registry entry to disable the Win Store.Open Regedit, and navigate to
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsStore
Make a Dword32 named RemoveWindowsStore
And set the value to 1.

Setting RemoveWindowsStore to 0 will reactivate the Store. So you can get WinApp updates for the default built-in WinApps.

C) You can let things be as MS desires, and let MS account standard account users install their own Win Apps, But you regularly go inspect Administrative Tools > Windows Firewall with Advan... Read more

It started off on a different site that I have an account with, where I'd get on the site and just when I'd get to where I'd need to go, it would tell me "my session has now ended". So I thought it was a site issue.
Today, it done this with my email when I was about to send a reply to someone. It told me that me session had ended and I needed to input my password periodically to stay signed in (but I literally hadn't even been off the page for 3 minutes).

What do I need to do to fix this?
I have cleared out my cookies, cache, history, all that also, and it doesn't help.
I even scanned it with AVG and Malawarebytes and they both didn't show any viruses.

When you use the "hostname" command at the command line, does the hostname match your account name as seen in "Manage Accounts"? Because mine doesn't match. The hostname I see at the command line isn't even in the list of accounts. I'm wondering if that's why my password is rejected at the command line when I use the RUNAS command. The password works fine when logging into my computer and when I change it through Settings.

A:User accounts

The Hostname is the name of the computer, not the name of the user. When you install Windows, it chooses a computer name based on your username. However, once this is set it doesn't change unless you manually change it. This has nothing to do with usernames or passwords.

A:User Accounts Help

Why isn't all of the programs in the start>programs menu listed in the original account in the new account?
Simply because when you have downloaded or installed programs on your original account you installed it under your name not 'All users'. Just copy across the programs under C\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\Start Menu\Programs into C\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs.

Why isn't all of the shortcuts on my desktop in the original account the same as in the new account?
Again, simply because in your original account you made the shortcuts under your name not all users. To copy the shortcuts across go to C\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\Desktop into C\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop.

How do i change my icon?
Go to start, control panel, user accounts, and then choose one Hope I have helped.
