I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Make sure you have the latest firmware for the router; then reset it to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

I have (3) computers running of a Linksys WRT54G router. (2) are hardwired and the other is Wireless.

All run and connect to the net just great when they are all ON.

However, whenever I turn this particular PC off for the night, it "somehow" disconnects the others from the Internet!!

None of these computers are Networked together either! All are running XP Pro.

What the heck is going on here ?

I'd have to believe this is some kind of electrical power and/or grounding issue. Does this happen if you reboot the computer, or only when you physically power it off? How about unplugging it's Ethernet connection and THEN powering it off, does that affect the other systems?

Hello, I'm new and I'm having this problem that I absolutely have no idea what to do...
Some months ago, I bought a netgear DG384Gv3 router and I use cables to connect it directly to my computer. It was working fine but now, it's been 1 week since I started getting random disconnects from the internet. It's so annoying and in one day, I get around n 10-20 disconnects or more. I know it's not my line who's having problem because I tested it with my adsl modem and it worked fine. I also phoned my ISP and they said that my line was fine. In addition, I have the latest firmware and I tried resetting my router but without any luck. Any help please?

I replaced a very old router recently with a brand new Linksys BEFSR41 version 4.3 with the latest firmware, version 2.00.4 Build 7. At first it was fine, but the modem got disconnected once and since then I've been getting random disconnects from Ventrilo and on online game (WoW). I would think that it's a WoW issue, except that the disconnects happen from Ventrilo as well. My fiance and I play from the same router.

- We play next to eachother and only one of us disconnects at a time.
- Disconnects are random, can stay in WoW but Ventrilo disconnects and vice versa.
- Seems to occur at any time, but might be more frequent in the evening.

I've tried power cycling or whatever (disconnected modem, router, and the computers from power and then later plugged them back in). I've tried resetting the router to factory defaults and checked for firmware updates, but it already has the latest on the Linksys site.

I'm know how to log into the router, but I don't really know what to change to try and fix this issue. Please help!

can we see an ipconfig /all from your PC and from your mothers - make sure we know which is which
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me out with a problem I've been having:

I recently set up a wireless router in order to share my internet connection with a friend of mine. Things work fine most of the time, but these days whenever I use the internet for a while I get disconnected, and I can't access the internet again until I restart my computer completely.

I used to think that it may be because we were both using the internet at the same time that it would disconnect me, but sometimes I am just surfing web pages and it will disconnect me.

I look at the lights on the router and see that it's in heavy use. The internet light and the LAN light (connecting the router to my computer) are flashing intensely. Yet, when I switch off my computer the lights don't flash which means my friend is not using the internet. It is as if my computer keep sending information to the router until it can't handle anymore and disconnects. I really don't know what's going on.

If you could give me any ideas, I'd appreciate it immensely, and if you need any extra information, I'll be happy to post what you need.

Just for reference, the router I'm using is a NETGEAR wiresless router MR814.

Thanks.

Hi!

I bought this OfficeConnect Wireless SuperG Cable/DSL Router from 3Com. This piece was recommended by this swedish online store. Always bought stuff from them and nothing has been this bad. ;I

Anyway, if I put the network under some stress. Like downloading/uploading files or playing an online game, it disconnects me in 5-10 minutes.

So I have tried different settings with no luck at all. Another strange thing is that when I had the router at default settings and like 7-8 meters away, I could only get 11 Mbps. So I moved it only 1 meter closer and got 22 Mbps or something. I changed from "Mixed" to "Dynamic SuperG" and got almost 54 Mbps but very fluctuating. I moved the router only 4 meters from me and I got a contanst 54 Mbps. The router says it can work up to 122 meters indoor. ;I

There are no firmware upgrades either yet. There's so many settings that I don't have a clue about either. So I hope any of you people have the skill which I don't posess.

I bet there's something I have forgotten to tell you, so please just ask, I will check regulary.

Hi I live in a student house, where there are 6 of us all with computers/laptops, when we first had our internet set up by Virgin it worked fine disconnecting maybe once every few days, this has steadily become worse. Now the internet can disconnect every few minutes both on and off the wire. We have tried running an Ethernet cable directly from the router to my laptop in which case the internet has been very fast without a single problem. The only way I am aware of to get the internet working again is to unplug the power cable however even this sometimes does not do any good, its like it has a mind of its own. We have reset and installed the latest firmware on the router numerous times with still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry if this has been posted elsewhere.

hello Im new to this forum and I have been having problems with my new router. I decided to purchase a new one after having our old smc one since we first got cable internet. There were no problems with the old one except holding back the actual cable speed.

The new router is a Dlink EBR-2310 model and isp is Comcast cable. The connection is hooked up to 2 computers and occasionally a gaming console. Xbox live runs great but the two computers disconnect and reconnect randomly anywhere from 5-10/12 times a day. It is off for about anywhere from 1-3/4min and then returns without me having to do anything

This is a WIRED connection. The firmware on the router is up to date. I tried setting up static ips and the same thing happens(even worse) I've tried replacing the router and the same problem still occurs. any help would be appreciated since it is an annoyance.

Other weird problems with new router: downloads from sites like rapidshare are unusually slow (10-20 k/bs) downloading torrent files often triggers a disconnect. thanks for any help

A:Linksys router disconnects about every hour.

Hi,
You may be able to solve the problem by setting the router back to the default configuration. Somebody may have changed the settings on it which cause it do act in that way. Somewhere in the router's configuration, they should be an option to restore factory settings or something similar. Try doing this. If you don't know how, contact the retailer or consult the user manual.
If you do this and the problem persists, the problem may be your service provider (ISP). They could have problems due to a lack of servers or too many users. Try contacting them to resolve the issue.
Luke.

My router is often getting disconnected from the internet and it cannot connect again before I reboot it. It is an Encore ENTR-104-2 router and I set it to reconnect automatically - however when disconnected it does connect automatically (and neither manually if I try) and I have to reboot it to be able to connect again. I bought this router a few months ago and did not have any problems until the past few weeks, when it has started getting disconnected every 3-5 days. I have tried downloading a new firmware from the Encore site, but did not find any for my exact model, and the nearest one I found was not accepted by my router.

I contacted my ISP who stated there is no problem at all with my connection.

A log of my router is reproduced below. It was taken when I found my router disconnected, and I even tried to reconnect manually, but to no avail. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Problem: The internet connects fine, but every couple of minutes it will disconnect for a couple of seconds. It's not a big deal when browsing, but it's disastrous when downloading big files or playing online games.

What I've tried so far:
-Resetting the modem. No change.
-Reconnecting the modem/router completely. No change.
-Replacing the main splitter. Slight change, but problem came back eventually.
--Original problem came with the tech's 2 way 5-1002 mhz spliiter.
--I tried replacing it with a 3 way 5-1000 one. The modem on 7db and cable on 7db. It worked fine for a couple of days.
--Problem comes back today. Moving the modem to any of the 3 outputs doesn't fix anything. Moving it to 3.5db actually causes a short timeout every minute when I try to ping yahoo (as a test).
--I've also tried a 2 way 5-900 mhz splitter. It was the worse one of all.

Other info:
The internet went down to the entire block at the start of the year. No one knew this of back then so we made a call to comcast, and they scheduled for a tech. A couple days later, we decide to get a new modem from the comcast center just to make sure it wasn't our modem. Some problems with activation prevents us from knowing if it was. We get back online somehow the next day, which is also the same time the tech came. I have Comcast Digital Voice and Internet and am using an Arris TM502G cable modem with telephony. I am trying to connect it to my wireless router: Belkin f5d7230-4 version 6000.

I have had the router for several years, and it worked perfectly and consistently. Several months ago, I started using my Desktop computer without the router, connected directly to what I had at the time, a motorola standalone cable modem. Then I ordered Comcast Digital voice, and they replaced my motorola modem with the arris telephony modem. After a few weeks of using the arris directly connected to my desktop, I tried to set up the Belkin.

At first, the Belkin went for 1 or 2 days without needing a reset, but now it just loses the connection after a few minutes. However, I can use the Belkin router without it being connected to the modem, and all of my computers can see each other. I was even doing a lot of VNC over the Belkin, and it never once needed to be reset.

I have updated my router to the very latest firmware, version 8.01.21, and also reset to the default settings the router. Yet the problems persist. Is the WAN manager in the router broken, or is Comcast messing with me. I have cloned the WAN MAC address of the ethernet card in my desktop to the router.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Previously when i first got the router both client computers that was online both had windows 98, I connected the router, installed the router wizard on the cd and boom both computers where working fine online.

I then recently change my operating system to windws 2000 NT technology, the other client has remained with windows 98, I have reset my router settings and tried to re-install the router settings via the cd. Both computers work with the internet for about a couple of minutes then all of a sudden our IE browsers stop working and we cannot access the internet anymore unless we restart our computers and re-power the modem and router. things like yahoo messenger seem to carry on working on the machines.

We use a cable connection for our internet, our router is just a standard broudband router made by Peak ( I believe)

Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix our problem

Does anyone know of a specific configuration I should use?

A:Belkin router internet disconnects

Does anyone know of a specific configuration I should use?Click to expand...

You should use configurations that will help you troubleshoot to determine where/why the disconnects (unless, of course, you already know).

If you have no clue, observe the LEDs on the Westell modem/router and on the Belkin router to see what they tell you. Try a device connected directly to the Westell to see if that also frequently loses internet access.

Do the disconnects occur for all devices at the same time? Or is the problem with just one device? When internet access is lost is connection with the router maintained?

If you want a guess, at least part of the problem is likely the Belkin. Six years of service from that particular model is outstanding and you should not feel bad about replacing it,.

Hey, I have a Zyxel 5D124A0 and it runs very well, most of the time..

I'm currently setup with a modem > router > wifi/cable(makes no matter, same issue).
If I use the cable straight from the modem into my PC, there are absolutely no issues. Working perfectly.

Alright, so to my issue. If I play any games on my PC/PS3, I will suddenly lose my connection for a second or two. Not long enough for me to disconnect from the game. But rather, what should have occured during that time, will just fly by in a split second. This happens, maybe, 2-4 times per hour. I haven't changed much more than the password in the router since i bought it about 3 months ago.

Should add that I have a 100/100 fiber connection from Telia, and I drop like 2-3mbit/s from using the router, compared to going straight from the modem.

My laptop is a MSI GT683DXR, bought 10 months ago.

My modem is a XG6745

I haven't had the option of trying my laptop elsewhere, but several friends has had the same issue as me from my router when we've had lans.

Any suggestions?

Not sure whether this is gaming or connection problems, so feel free to move if it's in the wrong place.

Several times over the last couple of weeks both during the day and in the evening, I have been disconnected from the world of warcraft and ventrilo server. There are no latency issues in game, it just suddenly disconnects me requiring me to login again. The problems started when I switched to NTL and the 1mb connection (which should be more than enough) and had to use a router rather than connecting both PCs to the BT cable modem.

My partner has the same problems but the disconnects aren't simultaneous, they aren't timed and seem random (both from ventrilo and the server). Other programs such as teamspeak and msn messanger are unaffected.

Use the built in XP firewall, and a sitecom DC-202v5 router. I tried setting up port forwarding/static IPs and that didn't help. Playing without the router stopped the disconnects though. The cables were used when we had a BT modem and they were fine then. My network card is a TE100-PCBUSR 32-Bit Cardbus PC Card and that has also been fine before so the problem isn't there. Both PCs have Ethernet connections to the router. So today I tried a new router (without port forwarding), figuring that was the problem and the disconnects were worse

Both running windows XP.

I have a ZyXEL P-335U wireless router, which also has four normal LAN ports.
Currently I only use the normal LAN ports, and I have no wlan connections active.
The router is connected to the internet through an ethernet connection. (10/10Mbit)

Everything works great when I connect through the router with only one computer, but
if I plug in my 2nd computer, both connections will die after 10-60 minutes. All the lights
on the router keep blinking like usual, even after the connections die. It seems like some
outgoing traffic will still be possible after the connection crashes, but no incoming data.

I returned the router to have it fixed, but they found no problems and sent it back to me.

Hopefully someone here will have an idea of what could be the problem. Looking forward
to reading any ideas/comments/tips/help/whatever.

Folks,
I have a 2 computers connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 router which is connected to a Verizon Westell DSL/Cable modem. From time to time the Ethernet link between the modem and the router spontaneously disconnects. I can reconnect the link by going to the setup menu on the router with a browser @ 192.168.1.1
Sometimes I have to do an ipconfig/release and renew to fix the link. Sometimes I have to power cycle the PC and the modem and the router.
Currently this disconnect problem has gotten much worse. It occurs about every 15-20 minutes while I'm connected to the net. It also occurs when either computer is booted or turned off (I see the link light on both the modem and the router flash red for a moment).
The problem never happens if only one PC is connected to the router. Do you think I need a new router?

Hi,

My modem disconnects then reconnects sometimes 3 times a day or more. I am using aztech. I changed my router to a linksys, during the first 2 months it was okay, now the same problem arise again with my aztech.

A:My modem/router disconnects then reconnects

If your modem is disconnecting it's likely a problem with your ISP, the cable or phone lines between your ISP and the modem, the modem or its power supply, or a faulty or missing filter if DSL.

If you want to be more specific about your type of internet service, brand and model of modem and router, specific problem, etc., we may be able to offer more help or suggestions.

This is not a computer issue, but more of a modem related problem. Currently, we have AT&T as our DSL provider and we use a Netopia Wireless DSL modem. We're experiencing a series of multiple issues that we cannot seem to diagnose nor can AT&T resolve.

1. The DSL modem frequently disconnects from the uplink, leaving us with a blinking red light that will eventually go green again and then the connection returns. The modem has had its firmware updated and all configurations checked and nothing stands out as to why the connections drops.

2. The DSL connection itself lately has started to come to a crawl, with high latency while playing our online video games. The actual modem itself never resets or disconnects from the uplink, but its as if the modem is confused as to where it should route packets and rather than sending them to the uplink, it acts as tho its caught in a loop. Eventually after 15-20 seconds, we either 1) get disconnected from our game or 2) the lock clears and tons of stuff pass by in the game in quick succession.

We have verified all lines have filters. We have even turned off our cordless phone in the event it was having some issues with the router, and yet the problems persist.

Any help would be appreciated if anyone has any other things we should check to try and resolve this open issue.

Thanks

Hi there all. Newbie here. I have a strange problem I can't get to the bottom of. I have replaced my father's wired modem (he's with PostOffice.com in the UK) with a Belkin Surf+ (F7D2301uk) router running firmware version 1.00.16. When he tries to access the network from his Tosh C660 Win 7 Home Premium, 64bit laptop the network connection between the laptop & router disconnects after a minute or so. The only way to reestablish a connection is to Disconnect and Connect again in the Wireless Network section of Networking panel. But here's the weird bit. My own Mac Book keeps connected fine without any problems as does my Sony Ericsson X10 phone.

I'm stumped so any help on the matter would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to SF,

Please try these resommendations:

Are you using any 3rd party utility manager to wireless connect? If you do, you have to disable the WLAN Auto Config for Vista/7 from Control Panel's Services. Click on Start and type services.exe, press enter locate WLAN Auto Config and Disable. Otherwise, if no wireless utility is installed, WLAN Auto config needs to be enabled.

Make sure that DHCP and Obtain DNS server address automatically is enabled from both LAN and Wireless connection. Here's How.

Disable the problematic Wireless Network Adapter's power saving mode from Device Manager, locate the Network Adapter=> Properties=> Power Management Tab, in here you may disable any Power Save mode options by unchecking them off.

Hey all, first time poster here.

Pretty much I first noticed this problem when I would connect to Xbox Live via wireless and it would work fine, but as soon as I start searching for players in say Halo Reach it would disconnect everything on the network. This included computers and phones that are connected either via Ethernet cords or wirelessly.

It is my router disconnecting and not my modem though as I have two separate devices. In order for me to restore connection I have to manually restart the router as I can't access it through the usual 192.168.0.1 method.

Giving up I decided to play some MW3 on PC but as soon as I started to connect to other clients my whole internet would disconnect. Again this is just the router doing it. I've portforwarded everything as required however it is still giving me this issue.

So what I know for sure is that as soon as my router tries to connect to other clients rather than a server such as websites, xbox live etc it would disconnect.

What would be causing this????

The router is a Dlink DIR-300

Make sure the wireless driver is the latest from the laptop manufacturer's web site (assuming it's an integrated adapter).

Make sure the router has the latest firmware; then reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

If still a problem, after a disconnect ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hey guys,

I am desperate for your help. In my 15 years of using the Internet, I never had to consult a forum directly, I always found my answer googling the problem. Not this time though.

Even though there are thousands of problems and answers regarding random disconnects from wireless networks, none of them helped me out, here is why:

Due to my job I am on the go all the time and have therefore in the past without any issues quickly connected to something like 15 wireless networks. Everything always worked as one would expect.
Now I am at a new place and I keep getting disconnected from the wireless network. This happens after 2 mins, 15 mins, even 3h after connecting. Usually I dont have to use the Troubleshooting, wireless will just reconnect by itself within a matter of seconds. However, constant disconnects annoy me and I need to get rid of this.
Since I never had this issue for 2 yrs with the exact same hardware and software configuration, I am thinking the problem must be on the router's side. Since I dont consider myself a newb in this regard, I feel save to say that all router configurations look okay, I didnt see anything odd that could cause this.
I am hesitant to change settings on my machine that I found when googling, because I was always able to connect without any problems to any wireless network. It seems just this one at my new place causes issues.

Can anyone help?

Hi murphy347,

Welcome to SevenForums.

The only thing that comes to my mind is that your present location is much more susceptible to Radio Frequency Interference.

Did you try changing the channel in the Wireless Settings of your router? ( There are 13 ) Atleast one should prove to be better.

Yay, so I have to retype all of this because being on/off/on/off the internet apparently logged me out and when I finally clicked everything that I wrote was lost. So here we go again...Unfortunately I am so frustrated that this description of my problem will not be as precise as my first one. Started with my girlfriends router burning plastic and being told by the Comcast guy its a fire hazard and she shouldn't use it. We buy a Belkin Basic F7D1301 v1 router from Best Buy, supposedly easy to hook up. Disc set up does not work, tells us to call the number. I access the router by typing in 'router' in the browser. (I've done a few other routers and they were all accessible by typing 191.168.1.1 or similar in the browser). Using any sort of security does not allow my Vista laptop to connect. It results in a "Local only" connection. Xp laptop is able to connect using security. Both laptops are able to connect without security. What results is both computers being connected for about 30 minutes, then both being kicked off and the only light on the router changing from green to orange. A power cycle will allow for about another 30 minutes until it happens again. I read some things about a DHCP lease. I tried turning off 'dhcp server' i believe. I'm pretty sure the laptop that I set it up on stayed connected all night, and the router light stayed green, but no other devices were able to connect. (I'm not entirely sure if tha... Read more

A:Belkin router random disconnects and other problems

you may want to type into notepad and then just copy and paste here - that way a disconnection will not make any difference
to all your writing , I know how frustrating that can be

lets separate the issues
1) you have one PC which will not connect to the wireless security , but will when no security is on the router
2) The internet intermittently disconnects all PCs from the router

lets start with 2) and get a solid connection with NO wireless security

so when the router disconnects - whats the name of the light turns from green to orange ?

would you do the following ipconfig /all and ping tests (instrutions below ) when its working and then do the same tests again when it disconnects - save the results and post back when you are reconnected

also post back xirrus - instructions below

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results here
-> Start
-> (XP - enter the following in the RUN box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all
-> (Vista or Windows 7 - enter the following in the Search box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all

A black box will appear on the screen -
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy

then reply here and

Good afternoon everyone,

Please excuse the way that I may communicate as I am fairly new to posting on here.

I have been having problems with my fathers computer. He currently has a linksys B network card and also has the capability of hooking up with an ethernet cable as he is close enough to it. The software he is using is windows XP

The problem that he has is that while he is using any of his applications, such as on facebook, the computer will intermittently lose connection completely. At first i though that it may have been a problem with the network card but then found out that it is also happening when directly connected.

I run on the same router in the house and use a dell Latitude E6500 with windows vista and no problems staying online.

Does anyone have any possible idea as to how to resolve this. I am in the process of ordering a new network card for him that is a 802.11g instead of a 802.11b beyond this I cannot find any idea as to what is causing it. Any assistance is appreciated and I am more than happy to provide anymore necessary info.

A:computer int disconnects from router on both wireless and with ethernet

Welcome to TSG:
If you are experiencing disconnects on both wired and wireless,I might assume that the problem does not lie with the wireless adapter alone.
Couple of things I might do.
Run your updated antivirus/antispyware suite to flush out any potential threats.
When you lose connectivity, take a look at task manager.Any particular task/process using a high % of cpu.? Idle task should be running above 90%.
Boot up in safe mode with networking.
Same problem?.
Just to be safe,I might download any more current firmware for your router.I understand that your other pc does not have an issue, but newer firmware if available can't hurt.
Any error msgs when connectivity is lost ?
How do you recover ?

In October 2009 received Netgear wireless router as part of Sky broadband package. PC is 2004 Packard Bell Desktop, spec P4, 512MB ram, Geforce 2.
Using a Belkin USB G-Mimo Wireless adaptor, 3003, and Belkins wireless utility software, pc does connect to net fine. During a download of say more than 5MB, it will slow from 200kb/s down to 50kb/s then disconnect from net. If I do nothing, but wait, it will re-connect again in about one minute. I have freshly installed the windows xp home onto a formatted C: drive, all updates are done, no other unusual hardware is used. Windows is activated, there are no other problems.
Anyone had this happen to them, or might know what might be wrong ?

Hi

In my humble opinion some of the USB sticks are flaky as hell,

can you try another way of connecting it wirelessly, such as a borrowed PCI card.

or can you plug the PC in with a cable and see if it still does it.?

Hello,

Puzzling problem, wondered if anyone could help.

I have a wireless router and am connecting 2 phones (wifi) and 1 PC (ethernet).

The PC is running Windows 8 and has two User Accounts (I'll call them "Business" and "Personal").

Since setting up the router, the phones have connected over wifi without problem. If I log onto the "Personal" user account on my PC, it connects over ethernet, and the phones still work with wifi.

However, if I log my PC onto my "Business" user account, the PC says it has connected to the Home Hub via the ethernet cable, but there is no internet connection. It also causes the internet connection on the phones to drop (sometimes the wifi goes down completely, sometimes it says it's connected to wifi, but there is no internet). I don't think it's an ethernet problem either, as I connected my PC wirelessly instead of with the cable, and the same thing happens.

The PC only ever does this on the "Business" user account, the "Personal" account works fine (I'm using that now). Looked everywhere to find a solution, I assume it's something in the settings, rather than a router issue. Can't find the answer anywhere.

Please can anyone help?

Thanks.

Router: D-Link DI-604
provider: local cable service with Roadrunner

We were using an ethernet hub and network, and everything was fine. Then for security purposes we got a D-Link DI-604 router and installed it. Everything worked OK out of the box, we upgraded the firmware, etc. THEN--we find that if the computer sits idle for a while, it can no longer connect to the cable modem service. Rebooting the computer is the only thing that reconnects mine; we can reconnect another computer by trying to hit a website, selecting "work offline", then trying again and getting an option of "reconnect?" and if you select Yes, then everything works on that PC again (I never get that option on mine though.)

Note that if I'm downloading from binaries for an hour or more, no disconnect even though I give no keyboard input etc. This indicates to me that there's a software idle timeout somewhere along the line, and not a hardware problem.

Rebooting is NOT a good option as I have programs that call out while I'm at work and do various things and they can hardly reboot my PC! I contacted D-link and the tech guy had me change the MTU from 1500 to 1492 and claimed that would solve this problem but it's still happening.

Below I am listing everything I can think of in the way of settings that might give a clue to anyone who can suggest a fix. This is really ticking me off. Before this, I could run my PC a week at a time without rebooting. Now I have to reboo... Read more

I try to listen to music through Yahoo's music site or through xmradio.com and every time I try to listen to a song my router disconnects and kicks me off the internet. In order for me to get connected again I have to unplug my router and plug it back in. I have updated the firmware on my route to the lastest version. The only thing that I can think of is it is a problem with the drivers with my network card that are somehow causing the problem. Has anyone ever heard of this before? Could it be my router is just giving out?

OK I have a local isp providing wireless internet service, and seeing as that the only other option I have is 56k dialup, I'm stuck with it. I have hardwired my PC to my router and it works great with surfing the web and whatnot, but my problems occur when I'm gaming.

-I will get lag spikes (expected) playing online games
-Frequently, yet randomly, I will be disconnected from the game completely, and the case seems to be a momentary lapse of connectivity.
-During these periods, web pages won't load and I can't interact in the game, basically a big lag spike. The game will boot me back to the menu, and shortly after (seconds after being booted usually, rarely minutes), I can log back in again.
Once again, I'm using a wireless router to connect to my wireless internet service, and these random lag spikes kick me off of games or temporarily stop downloads. When something requires a streaming connection, it's a huge hindrance to me.

Sorry if I'm not very computer literate, but I am very new to this connection and tech talk in general, so feel free to hold my hand if you have any advice.

Thanks
