Does anyone think they need a new cable type for the newest audio connectors?

Q: Does anyone think they need a new cable type for the newest audio connectors?

Well I just looked at some new sound cards today and I have to say -

[RANT]OMFG how many more audio 3.5 mini-jacks will I have to plug into the back of my PC?

I say they take some other connector type and make it so all audio goes through 1 cable. Heck they can even overload the cable with a few extra not currently used lines for "future upgradability".

What are your thoughts on changing the hardware setup to something a little simpler -

BTW I am the same guy who loves HDMI inputs over the standard 5 plug High Definition inputs on my TV.

What are we living in the dark ages we can't come up with SIMPLE connectors that function well?[/RANT]

Whew now that I got that off my chest I'll sleep better. Am I the only one who thinks theres just a few too many plugs when it comes to audio?

Preferred Solution: Does anyone think they need a new cable type for the newest audio connectors?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ha, I have RCA jacks running all over the place at my TV.
Dreamcast, Gamecube, XBOX, DVD player, Linux Box, 5.1 surround sound, digital cable. Those all cross through my TV somehow on RCA, then I have all the CAT5, coax and whatever other wires I can find! Don't mind though, they worh better then the RF modulators.

A:What type of cable is best to connect the audio reciever to the pc?

As per my other post, if your receiver has a HDMI input, I would go with that. HDMI has a much higher bandwidth compared to other digital interfaces thus allowing higher resolution audio. Toslink, or sometimes called SPDIF (or optical) does have limited bandwidth compared to HDMI - 24bit 96khz max. If you do not play media higher than that then you will be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two. However one benefit with Toslink is that it is not electrically conductive therefore it will not pass any electrical noise from the source nor will it pick up RF interference. So if you get a loud hum, usually referred to as a ground loop, when HDMI is connected you may want to try a Toslink connection.

As for the quality of the cable used in both configs?? I would stick with name brands that have lots of positive reviews from actual users and not just professional reviewers. They don?t have to be expensive. Toslink is susceptible to breaking if bent too aggressively so keep this in mind should you be fishing the cable through a cabinet.

Does anyone know where to buy a PCIe x1 riser cable where the connectors on end are mounted on a right angle to the cable? My motherboard only has two PCIe slots, with the x1 slot being right next to the x16 slot. I have a graphics card plugged into the x16 slot and like most cards, the heatsink and fan cover up the x1 slot, making it impossible to use that slot for anything. There exist riser cables that you can plug into a PCIe slot and then plug a card into the other end, however all the cables I can find have the connectors mounted straight on the end of the cable, which causes the same problem as trying to use a card in the slot, namely that the graphics card is in the way. Additionally, my motherboard is short, so there are two slots in the case below the bottom of the board. One of these slots would be perfect for mounting a card on the end of a cable, but if the connector isn't on a right angle, it won't fit. I've seen pictures of such a cable, but I've never found anywhere to buy one. I'd like to add a USB 3.0 card to this system. PCIe x1 cards go for less than $20. A standard PCI card (I have two free PCI slots) costs about $60 and won't give full performance because of the limitation of the PCI standard. A PCIe card and a riser cable with right angle connectors would solve the problem perfectly. I could get a x16 riser cable for the graphics card, but it would have to be long enough to go over any USB 3.0 card I might add. Since the cables ... Read more

Hi All,
I have a Lenovo Twist laptop. I spilled coffee all over the keyboard ruining it. I took the keyboard out to replace it and broke the thin black clips that hold the ribbon cables to the motherboard. Everyone I spoke with winced when I told them what I was looking for and I cannot find them anywhere on the internet. Does anyone have any suggestions? Its the longer of the 2 clips. Maybe a quarter inch by one and a quarter inch black clip, really thin and small.

Thanks

It might be hard to find the exact clips for the Lenovo. Have you considered just taping or hot gluing the cable in place?

What are those cable things used for on a PCI graphics card.
E.g.

http://i6.ebayimg.com/01/i/001/2d/74/c92e_1.JPG

On this graphics card there is one blue connector thingy with holes in it, which I think is for some cable (excuse me for my lack of computer literacy). What is the cable port and the cable used for? And is the cable necessary for the graphics card to work in a computer, or is it just for connecting it to a tv or something --> I don't really know. Just wanna know if the port has to be used, or whether it can be left empty and still will work in a computer in a PCI slot.

Thanks.

I've just bought a new mainboard (KM2M) and am fitting into the case. Everything is fine until I come to connect the front panel audio connectors. I'm completely stumped so if anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it.

The manual labels the pins as follows:

1 AUD_MIC - Front panel microphone input signal
2 AUD_GND - Ground used by analog audio circuits
3 AUD_MIC_BIAS - Microphone power
4 AUD_VCC - Filtered +5V used by analog audio circuits
5 AUD_FPOUT_R - Right channel audio signal to front panel
6 AUD_RET_R - Right channel audio signal return from front panel
7 HP_ON - Reserved for future use
8 KEY - No pin
9 AUD_FPOUT_L - Left channel audio signal to front panel
10 AUD_RET_L - Left channel audio signal return from front panel

There are two bunches of cables coming from the front panel.

The first, clearly the microphone one, is coloured and labelled as follows:

Green - MIC
Red - R
Blue - L
Black - G

The second is labelled as follows:

Red - VCC
White - PORt -
Green - PORt +
Black - G

Which cables connect to which pins? Some are obvious but others are not (at least to me) and I don't want to blow anything up by getting them wrong.

Any help appreciated.

A:Audio Header connectors - confusing

Usually, there is a front panel audio connector that will mate with the connector on the motherboard. In older systems it is labeled "AC97". On newer systems there is also "HD Audio" connector. What you have on the motherboard looks like it would interface with either AC 97 or HD Audio front panel connectors (HD Audio is preferred if available). If you just have individual wires that is a very old system. You would have to refer to the case documentation for what goes where.

the problem is i can't see the newest emojis people are posting on facebook.

i don't rely use them my self but a lot of people seem to like to use emojis instead of actual words and it makes it hard to understand what they are saying when half of each of their sentences are just squares.

at first i thought it might be a facebook issue
but after some testing and such i discovered that i couldn't see the emojis on any website...

this lead me to a chrome adon that did allow me to see about half of them.... but not all of them... and the adon used its own custom looking emojis that were really big and ugly.

finally after doing some more research to try and find some thing else to replace that with i found out that my font list is out of date and needs updated to the current unicode font list.

Question:

Where is the Speaker Fill option (play music on all 5 speakers) in the latest version of this driver's HD Audio Manager?

Background:

Recently I updated my drivers from the Realtek website. I have a 5.1 speaker system but the problem is ever since I updated to the latest version, Realtek HD Audio Manager no longer has the "Speaker Fill" option... so basically only 2 of my 5 speakers will play audio!

I don't understand why they would remove this option in the latest version. I could simply refer to an older version but the new version has something I really want which is Secondary Audio Output for Headphones (helps me DJ).

I tried replying to this topic about the same issue but it was too old: working out how to get 5.1 in Vista

Also, that topic did not answer my question because the "Speaker Fill" option is absent from my Vista Speaker control options

A:Newest Realtek HD Audio Manager no longer includes SPEAKER FILL option

you could still use the secondary output for headphones with the old realtek drivers and control panel, just double click on the output from the headphone socket within the realtek panel and click on front speaker out, this will change it to 2 outputs for the same audio, I would upload a pic to demonstrate but I'm not on my pc at the moment, I'm on my G/Fs notebook.

Depends on what type of audio signal you are dealing with. Low level audio should use "shielded" audio cable. Speaker links can use "speaker" cable.

Hi...

Just had to run a new (longer) cable from the wall outlet to the modem and downloading now _seems_ slower and I'm getting a lot of timed out when making a new connection.

I'm using a 50 foot "RG6 Quad Shield" with about 10 to 15 feet of excess. I've also recently changed over to a new router, but it didn't seem to be a problem until I changed the cable.

So, I guess my questions are: How can I be sure it's the cable that's causing the issue vs the router? Also is it my imagination or is most cable out there "thinner" then what the cable company gives you? And lastly is one cable better then another?

Any thoughts or opinions?

TIA

A:Can cable type slow internet connection

RG6 is superior to RG59 (the usual cheap CATV home wiring cable), so the cable is likely not your problem if you extended it less than 50-100 feet. Check for proper termination of the connectors, because that can have a major impact if the shield is open or if the center conductor is intermittently open or shorted.

Another problem area... if your modem connection is on the output side of a second or third cable splitter, or output of a distribution amplifier, your connection may not work at all.

You can test it by connecting a TV to the cable and tune to various channels 2 and up. If they are all ok (especially high channel numbers, cable likely isn't the problem).
