Q: Audio plays through speakers and headphones (Lenov...

I have seen a few posts that are similar to this, but none of them offered solutions and most were not for Win 10, so I figured I would make another. Recently, my audio will come out of my speakers and headphones when headphones are plugged in via the jack. Audio via headphones is incredibly distorted (dialogue completely unintelligable) and will still play through the headphones even when all sound is muted. My headphones are not detected in playback devices (Show disabled devices is enabled) and going to Control Panel>Realtek HD Audio Manager>Device Advanced Settings does not bring up the options for Classic or Multi mode, but instead only displays options for recording devices ("Tie up of input jacks" vs "Separate input jacks"). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling 2 different audio drivers from Lenovo and tested 3 different headphones that connect via the headphone jack. I have not tried usb headphones, but would like to fix the headphone jack primarily. I hope someone is able to help!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Everything was working fine until about 9 months ago. I have tried switching settings on realtek and the windows control panel to headphone mode, but no matter what settings are on, my computer fails to mute the speakers when playing through headphones. There are absolutely NO troubleshooting topics on windows or realtek websites about this. Help!

A:My Realtek Audio Driver Plays Headphones and Speakers

I think I remember in the realtek settings on my old computer it said something along the lines of "disable front audio when headphone is plugged in" with a check box to toggle on and off.

-- do you see any settings resembling that?
If you have already found the on/off and it does not work, try uninstalling and re-installing the audio drivers and software.

I am have a problem trying to figure out how to stop audio playback through my desktop speakers when my headphones are plugged into the 3.5 mm jack on the left side of my All-In-One Inspiron One 2320 desktop.  I have tried everything in my knowledge of my computers and audio set up.  If someone could help me figure out how to configure the audio so that when I plug in my headphones the audio playback is only streaming through the headphone speakers and not both headphones and the internal desktop speakers simultaneously I would appreciate any input on this situation.  Thank You

There should be a RealTek HD Audio Manager on your PC (not sure how it's accessed).  You should be able to reconfigure the jacks with that.

I have a laptop and I was using my headphones fine for ages then one day I shut it down and when I opened it again the sound came from both speakers and the headphones. The laptop doesn't even recognise the headphones so that when I plug them in, nothing happens to the laptop, it just plays sound through both. It doesn't show up in the disables devices in sound and I have reinstalled the drivers but nothing works. I have tried this with all headphones and earphones in the house and the computer recognised none. It has been like this for a while now and nothing has changed.
I'm running windows 10.
the problem was sudden, nothing changed when it occurred.

I have looked for hours over the Internet for my problem but I have not found a solution. Sound plays through both the headphones and speakers when I have the headphones plugged in. I want the audio to play only through the headphones when I have them plugged in. When I check my playback devices: http://i.imgur.com/WUhT1UF.png when the headphones are plugged in or not. When I disable the device no audio comes from the laptop. It says my Realtek HD Audio is up to date http://i.imgur.com/cSDUQFv.png. I am using Windows 8.1, 64-bit. Is there anyway to get the sound to only play through the headphones when I have them plugged in.

A:Sound plays through both headphones and speakers

The Realtek HD Audio Manager, has options for either muting the speakers when a headset is plugged in or to not mute them.

Like the thread title says, I plug in my headphones and listen to them quite happily but then wait, oh no, the sound is still playing through the speakers! I've had this laptop for over a year now, upgraded to W7 when it came out; this is my first issue with it.

I've had a look at sound in control panel, which lists four options to set as default.
1) Speakers + Redirected Headphones (currently default)
2) Independent (R.T.C.) Headphones 1
3) Independent (R.T.C.) Headphones 2
4) Digital Output Device (SPDIF Out)

I have tried using headphones with all four of these as default. The only way I can get any sound at all is to use the first option.

The laptop has two headphone jacks in the front, as well as a front/back/side set up at the rear of the frame, for external speakers I assume.

Please help!

HP Pavilion HDX9430EA
Windows 7 64-bit

I tried putting my headphones in one of the rear ports, which has fixed the problem. However, if anyone could offer advice on how to make it work through the front headphone jack I would appreciate it, as using the rear one is a bit of an inconvenience.

Strange problem! I have some sounds that play through my speakers when headphones are plugged in. For example, if I run Skype, the Skype will play through the headphones (properly), but iTunes will play through speakers, as will anything else.

This also happens when playing Borderlands - I have to unplug and replug headphones to get it to go back!

What gives? How to fix this?

I have IDT HDA as my sound card. Windows forced me to install NVIDIA HDA as well, so I have 2 sound drivers - NVIDIA HDA and IDT HDA AUDIO CODEC.

Hi,

Did my first budget pc build and I feel really sick because of a problem!

I've grown tired trying to fix this on my own and i see this as my last resort.
My problem is that when i plug in my headphones to the front panel of my PC, the sound plays out of the speakers still.
What i want is for the speakers to cut out when i plug my headphones in.
Headphones work as on my laptop speakers cut out when i plug in the headphones!

I've gone through forums and stuff and the instructions/help they have does not cover mine.

Here are 4 printscreens of my problem:

Below is the printscreen of the Speaker properties. As you can see, it shows the front and rear port together.

Below is the window i get when i click on the folder icon (connector settings ) on realtek manager:

Below is when i click on the link 'device advanced settings':

Below is when i click on the speaker icon in taskbar and click on 'volume control options':

So many forums/help guides have the disabled rear panel option thing and among other things but i dont have them.
The audio driver i downloaded from the asus website with respect to my mobo.
I've tried to include everything and sorry if i've left anything out.
Will be checking constantly for replies so i can reply back!

Please guys/girls,

Is there a way to fix this? I'm 20 and i've had really crap headaches over this.
My temp fix is to remove my audio cable from the rear lime panel that goes to my monitor speakers.

The title pretty much says it all. I realize there are other threads out there similar to this, but their solutions either didn't work for me, or the problem wasn't quite the same. My issue is as follows: When I plug my headphones into my laptop (hp dv7t 6c000 quad) audio plays through both the speaker and the headphones, which I don't want. Also, when I check the volume, there are 2 sliders, one for the speakers and one for the headphones. When I check the mixers, almost all programs are under the normal speaker mixer (and they play through the normal speakers), but some (steam being one of them) show up under the headphones mixer. When I move the slider to a new sound volume for the headphones, it makes the little ding sound (through the headphones) and I can hear the test. Disabling my default speakers didn't work, and neither did setting the headphones as default. I uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers. I'm totally at a loss of what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Sound Plays Through Speakers When Headphones Plugged In

Some systems have an Audio Control Panel that allows the option of having the speakers on when you plug in headphones, or to not have speakers on. Check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound to see if you have this and the option.

For example, I have RealTek audio and in my Realtek HD Audio Manager, I have the option for how I want the headphone jack to operate.

You say you uninstalled and reinstalled the audio drivers, but did you use the HP supplied driver? If not, the HP supplied sound driver is the preferred driver. Non-Vendor drivers in many cases may not work or work correctly.

A:[SOLVED] Sound plays out comp speakers but not headphones...?

Since they're USB, you may have unknowingly muted them. I had similar issues when the headset I was using was USB..Windows picked it up as an alternate audio source.

So, go to your control panel, then Sounds and Audio Devices. Click the audio tab and change your default playback device to the headset. Once that's done, click the volume button underneath it and make sure it's not muted or turned down all the way.

Once that's checked, before to change your default playback device to the Realtek HD Audio.

If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what to tell you. Since the mic still works, the headset is obviously good..although it IS possible to blow the speakers in the ear pieces..I had that problem with Logitec headsets.

Good Evening Friends,

I have had this problem for a long while now but essentially I am forced to use a headphone setup for my desktop but would really like to use external speakers instead of this current set up. What is confusing me is that these external speakers worked for a good long while then stopped working suddenly. Furthermore I switched monitors to a HP w2207 and was wondering if that had anything to do with it. I have updated Realtek to the current drivers and the premise remains the same. Any help would be much appreciated.

Forgot to mention: When you plug headphones into the front jack, the default action is to turn off the external speakers so that Windows action is normal.

I am running on a Dell Latitude D630. Just recently my audio jack isnt wanting to understand that my headphones are plugged in. I know that my headphones work cause when I would play them on my iPod they would work perfectly fine. I went into my drivers and uninstalled then reinstalled the audio drivers. I looked for other solutions online and there were none that fit to what I was looking for. the only sound that comes out of the computer are the stock "High Definition Audio Device" speakers.

At this moment I have plugged in 3 sets of headphones and none have been able to get sound out of the audio jack. They are all the simple 3.5mm plugs and I have used them numbers of times when making music on FL Studio or listening to music on Spotify. I know that there has to be a solution because there has never been a problem like this before.

Thank you for any help that you can give me

A:I need help with my audio, headphones and speakers.

Where did you get the driver update? From ASUS for your specific PC model? or from some other source? If it wasn't from ASUS, that may be the problem. Non-Vendor specific drivers may or may not work properly.

If it was from ASUS, there may be a Windows/sound driver corruption. First thing to try is go to the Device Manager. There should only be the entry for the VIA sound and possibly an HDMI audio (if you have that). If there is any other entry, such as HD Audio Codec, RIGHT click on that entry and then LEFT click Uninstall. Then restart the PC and see if that fixes it. If not, go back to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the VIA sound and then LEFT click Uninstall. DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the VIA sound. Check to see if it is now working OK.

Hi, I am having an issue with my laptop where the sound is coming from both my laptop speakers and my headphones. Before when I would plugin my headphones the sound would stop coming from the speakers and only come from the headphones. But after upgrading to Windows 10, this no longer happened. I have tried all the solutions I have found online. I installed the latest audio driver for my specific machine from the HP website (IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver 6.10.6425.0), I have tried uninstalling and reinstlling this driver, I have tried using the generic windows audio driver and now I have even downgraded to Windows 8.1 (clean install) but nothing has worked. In the playback device list there are two options, "Speakers/HP" which seems to cover both my laptop speakers and headphones, and a second device "Communication Headphones"  which is enabled but when I test it no sound comes from my headphones. I seen a solution online using the IDT Audio Control Panel however the control panel does not seem to come with the IDT CODEC I mentioned above. Any help would be much appreciated as I have been trying to resolve this for the last week to no avail.  Thanks,TheOriginalDrNo

Hey All. I'm running Vista Ultimate and I recently dicarded my dell speakers that came with my xps 400 b/c only the back ones worked and those cables were too long to use efficently (I don't need help on how to arrange my speakers, thats OK). The real problem is that my Sony MDR-E828 headphones won't work with the computer/the computer dosn't recognize them (so essentially I have no sound, other than the beeps that come out of the PC itself). Before I uninstalled the other speakers (after I had disconected them), the headphones only worked for the sound config (wher the CPU makes sound come out of the different speakers to identify them). Now, I can't get to any mixer or any thing else (sound test, ect.) b/c no speakers are installed, and when I plug the headphones in, all I get is static. I went to the Sony Tech support and there are no downloads for the headphones. I'm completely lost and soundless. Any suggestions on how to get the headphones working?

A:Audio through Headphones W/O speakers

Strange!

Your sound should card (even if onboard type) should still work whether you have speakers attached or not and so should your headphones.

You don;t mention what sort of sound card you have.

So, make sure that if you have a sound card that your onboard sound card is turned off from the BIOS and the correct driver is installed.

Your headphones should also work with generic drivers if they are the fancy kind but normally, like with ordinary headphones Vista should detect headphones have been connected.

To me it sounds like your sound device is not configured correctly

I noticed several weeks ago (after moving my pc) that when I listen to audio it is extremely quiet. I have listened to audio on youtube, in video games, and the audio test sounds in Realtek; they are all very quiet (almost inaudible). I have noticed the problem is the same whether I am listening through my external speakers or through my headphones plugged into the front headphone jack.

I have Realtek audio with the most recent drivers (8.19.11). I have all the sound settings maxed out at 100. I have attempted to disable all sound effects under enhancements under speaker properties. None of these attempts have been successful at resolving the problem.

Also, I ran this application, "microsoft fixit" found here, and it found no problems:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Tips-for-fixing-common-sound-problems

Several observations. First, when I plugged my microphone in and tested it last night (my mic is attached to my headset), it was normal volume (loud) played back through my headphones and through my speakers. This tells me that my speakers and headset seem to be working fine.

Also, I went to my computer/program files/realtek/audio/installshield and i noticed the rtkupd64 application was updated 8.4.11, which may have been around the time i started noticing these problems. Just thought i'd mention that.

Please let me know what more information you need from me. I put my computer specs I know under my profile.

Thanks!

Hi, lately I've had a few problems like Skype constantly logging me off and my computer not detecting my internet but after I finally fixed those problems, my speakers stopped working. I'm not very good with computers so I looked around through the internet and tried a bunch of things like disabling/enabling the headphones, uninstalling them entirely, using different headphone jacks, and restarting my computer. though I noticed I didn't have some of the things people were talking about. for example, I don't have the realtek audio drive thing, even though i'm pretty sure I used to have itGyazo - 9999964142c8d3ec55c8fb039a940e43.png. in another post I saw about someone with a similar problem he had about 6 devices shown here-Gyazo - c738b764fe632678c3490604e187f4d1.png- and that was a good thing apparently. I have horrible with computers all the time so there might just be a really simple fix that I never noticed.

A:No audio is played at all from speakers/headphones.

Welcome to the forum.

From the first link I see you only have "High Definition Audio" which suggests you only have the generic, basic function Windows installed sound driver. If you are supposed to have Realtek it will need to be reinstalled. You should be able to get the driver from HP downloads for your specific model or you can download the driver direct from Realtek.
The Realtek High Definition Codecs can be downloaded here: Realtek

My computer uses the Realtek HD Audio Manager. I have headphones plugged into the front panel and speakers plugged into the board itself on the back. I use nircmd to switch the default audio device between the speakers and headphones.

When I have the headphones set as the default device, audio plays out only the headphones. When the speakers are the default device, audio plays out both the speakers and the headphones. I can't figure out how to actually disable audio from the headphones when the speakers are the default device (short of disabling the actual device or unplugging it).

How can I properly disable the headphones when I want to use the speakers?

This is just a small problem, but pretty annoying one.

I recently updated to Win 10, and the first thing I noticed was that the sound settings were weird. Both speakers and headphone sounds work perfectly fine, but they don't automatically switch when I plug/unplug the headphones. I have to manually go into sound and set one device or another to default.

Not too tech savvy, any help?

A:VIA HD Audio doesn't switch between speakers/headphones

I don't have a link but I've seen some posts that the VIA sound drivers need updating for Windows 10. May be the problem.

So, the title says it all. The speakers of my Acer Predator 15 (Predator G9-591) are not working and taking a look at the HD Audio Manager says that the headphones jack is plugged in, even though there is nothing plugged in. I already used high pressure air cleaner, but that didn't work. I still think there is something wrong with the port.

I re-installed my drivers (based on the drivers from the Acer site), so I have no idea what else to do.

I'm running Windows 10.

I have an Asus M4A89TD pro / usb3 that has Realtek audio onboard. I have just finished my build and have never been able to get any sound from any of my IO ports. None of the ports recognize anything that I plug in (i only have 2 sets of 2.1 speakers, one uses a single light green jack and the other uses the light green jack and a black jack.) I DO get sound from some old usb headphones. The integrated Realtek audio does not detect any analog connection (tried with mic/speakers/headphones) in any of the jacks.

I removed the current drivers through uninstalling from device manager, rebooted, then installed the latest drivers from Asus, then Realtek directly. Additionally, I disconnected the front audio jacks from the motherboard in case that was causing a problem. Windows detects the audio device and there is no problems in device manager.

I've gone through every available option in the Realtek sound control options, but I'm at a loss. I have a USB headset that works without a problem, but I can't get these analog speakers to work. Any advice? The "set default device" is grayed out as an option for the speakers as well as saying they are "not plugged in".

I went through all the above several times with different drivers, uninstalled my graphics card (completely removed it from the motherboard during one setting), RMA'ed my motherboard, spoke to Asus support (who state it is a driver/software issue) to no avail over about a 3 week period. A:realtek audio not detecting speakers or headphones.

Unplug all your inputs.
Plug in one device at a time.
If the Realtek software is functioning properly you should see a pop up after plugging in the green main speaker plug.

After confirming by pressing OK, you should get the following.

You should then plug in the black input and go through the confirmation process, again.

Hi!I have my 3rd XPS 15 9560 with 32 GB RAM and the 1TB SSD now, after I had to return two of them due to the black screen flickering issue, coil whining and some weird crackle sounds.
This 3rd one has still the black screen flickering and the crackle sounds, but since the flickering is discussed a lot in other forums/threads already I here want to find a solution for the audio crackle.
This audio crackle sound lasts for a second and always appears with plugged in external speakers/headphones and it sounds like when the audio is powered off and on. Seems like some energy saving mechanism that is causing this?It appears mostly when I'm using a browser and the website contains some form of sound and then it always comes, when I switch to a "non-sound-containing" part of the website and then it appears ca. 5 sec after.
Also at the beginning when I start another sound or go on a website that contains sound.
Is there a fix?If I can't solve the screen flicker I will anyway return this notebook too and then buy myself a Gigabyte, Razer Blade or Macbook Pro. But I'm still hoping something can be done.

Disable the WiFi (Killer or Intel) in the Device Manager and run these test =* Test a locally stored music file* If available, plug in a simple USB WiFi adapter and test networked musicIf no noise, then the fault is latency stemming from the WiFi driver.

So my laptop was working perfectly fine last night and it had no issues whatsoever. When I switch it on this morning I find that the speakers aren't working.I tried plugging in my earphones and the sound that comes is distorted.I've tried reinstalling the audio drivers with device manager, rolling back the realtek audio drivers and then updating it with DEvice Manager, I've used the HP Support application and followed the steps given there(including the BIOS diagnostic thing where the speakers dont work and the audio coming from the earphones is Distorted).I've also updated the BIOS and the whole system inlcuding the windows version has been updated. The problem still persists. Please HELP!

This has been happening for 2 years, but as of earlier this month, my audio has been acting up MUCH more than it used to. Now, whenever I listen to any sound (music, watch videos, etc.) my speakers make this crackling/buzzing/stutter/lag sound every few seconds which makes me never want to use my audio because it is so annoying. I looked up this problem and many people mentioned that by using earphones the buzzing stops, but not for me. Also, I installed and uninstalled a bunch of the drivers that Dell told me to update (IDT Audio, Quickset64, and the BIOS) but this hasn't made any difference. I feel like this is a software problem but I wanted to hear professional opinions to see if it actually is.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

A:Crackling noise in audio on both speakers and headphones

Hi dmang24,
I appreciate for the drivers update. I suggest that you run diagnostics on hardware components, since both speaker and headphones are having crackling noise even after drivers update.
To run diagnostics restart the system and at the Dell logo tap the F12 key every two seconds. This will start the One-time boot menu. Using arrow keys select ‘Diagnostics’ and hit enter. This will run diagnostics on the hardware components of the system which may take around 5 minutes. Please reply to this post in case of any error message.

Hello

When I plug in my headphones to the back of my computer where my onboard soundcard is located, it seems that realtek detects my headphones as speakers, and as a consequence, the volume is way too low.

When connected to the front of my computer however, realtek detects my headphones as headphones, and the sound is much louder, however for practical reasons I prefer to have my headphones plugged into the back of computer, but the low volume is a bit of a problem.

A:Realtek HD audio recognizes my headphones as speakers

The rear GREEN speaker jack is for amplified computer speakers. When something is plugged in to that jack, the PC will assume its speakers, since that is what the jack is designated.

This is a Latitude D610. After re-installation I did the drivers, updated everything, then included the software Quickset which gave me control of the volume up, down, and mute button on the laptop itself. This isn't a big deal but just curious, it controls the speakers just fine but not when the headphones are plugged in, then it does nothing at all.

Which is odd as I figured the master volume would be effected as it was before the reinstall. I scanned all the volume options that I could think of to check and even switched the audio profile from speakers to headphones. No go for me. If you have any suggestions or insights, thank you in advance.

I'm running Windows XP with service pack 3.

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate back in March of 2009, and it is working perfectly, except for one error that has appeared just earlier today. When I plug headphones into my laptop, it does not recognise this, and does not channel audio into them - it just plays through the laptop speakers. I did not do anything which could trigger such an odd problem, to my knowledge. I used Apple Software Update to upgrade my installation of the Safari web browser, and then restarted my machine.

When it had booted up again, I opened iTunes and began to listen to music. It began playing through the speakers, so confused as I was, I tried another pair of headphones, as well as a pair of earbuds. I have installed newer audio card drivers, and it has not rectified the problem, so I really have no idea what is goign on. I'd love to simply try System Restore, but I don't believe I ever set it up, meaning I do not have a previous point to go back to. Please, if you can think of any other possible solutions, do tell me!

This is now completely irrelevant. After messing around with Realtek Audio Manager, everything is working again. Wonderful.

If all else fails, I should be able to purchase a set of speakers and use those, am I correct?

A:Realtek HD Audio - No Sound through speakers \ headphones

I just went through this with another user and a Gigabyte motherboard. Never really resolved it as the user didn't want to do a complete reinstall. Everything else had been done and the user still had the problem.

However, lets try on yours.

First thing, go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the RealTek sound and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound.

If that does not fix it, uninstall the RealTek in the device manager but ALSO Uninstall the drivers. Then restart and when Windows starts, it will install the sound but it should be with the generic Windows "High Definition Audio Driver". See if the sound works with this configuration. If it does, it sounds like the RealTek driver you have may be corrupt. Download the R2.75 High Definition Codecs driver direct from RealTek and see how that works. www.realtek.com

I've spent a couple days reading through the forum and trying the suggested solutions and none of them have worked.

The sound was working fine for the past 2 years since I bought my laptop. Suddenly it stopped working, got the x over the volume icon and said "No audio output device is installed" Then later it said "No speakers or headphones are plugged in" and is now back to the original message.

I've tried:
uninstalling/re-installing drivers
resetting bios
checking for dis-abled devices
Adding Environment Variables under Control Panel/System & Security/Advanced System Settings
Checking for hidden devices
...more things I can't remember

Can anyone help? I filled in my bio with all the system specs I could find...
Thanks

My laptop originally had Windows 8.1. I upgraded to windows 10 and the audio was working perfectly for a while until it started stuttering and also playing sound on both speakers and headphones at the same time. Even my audio levels keep fluctuating. I've tried every possible solution online but I can't seem to get it to work properly. I even resolved to installing my OS afresh, I deleted everything but still the same problem exists. Now my "High Definition Audio Device" is showing a yellow exclamation mark, it didn't show that before. Please help, I'm frustrated now.

I've had this problem for a few weeks now and haven't been able to solve it. When I play audio from any source, the sound is distorted and fuzzy. Sometimes when I restart the laptop then the audio plays as normal for a while, until I pause a video or load a new page and then the problem starts again. However, even when this happens, the audio is still perfectly fine if I play it through headphones.I have seen that there have been a few audio problems with notebooks and I've followed the recommended steps and installed the updated audio drivers but nothing has worked so far.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello. I replied to your other post yesterday.
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/20000413
dejibytealso my left speaker had stopped working before re installation, and the audio jack has a bit broken off exposing the metal stick(i dont know maybe this is a problem)
That information wasn't in your first thread. That might be why there is no audio through the headphone jack.

In light of this additional information, it is possible that you have 2 issues: broken headphone jack, and an interruption in the audio signal to the speakers. I understand that you reseated the speakers, but the ePSA test proves that the signal is still not getting through, or they have failed.
If the laptop is no longer under warranty, all I can suggest is that reseat the speaker cable again.
As for the headphones, I don't think that the Inspiron 3542 has a jack circuit board, so your best option may be to get a usb audio jack. It only costs a few dollars on Amazon. Don't know about the availability in your area.
