X250 powered but not charging - please help

Q: X250 powered but not charging - please help

Thinkpad x250, less than two years old. Running Windows 10. Yesterday afternoon after having my laptop plugged in for about a half an hour, I realised that it hadn't increased in charge at all from 9%. I clicked to open the charging icon on the taskbar and it said Battery 1 was at 12% and charging, while Battery 2 was at 5% and not charging. I unplugged, turned my cable and plugged it back in - same thing. I took the battery out, waited a moment, put it back in. No dice. I repeated this step a couple times. I left it to charge overnight, hoping that might resolve something but no luck. When I woke up this morning, it was now at 8%, with Battery 1 at 10% and charging while Battery 2 remained at 5% without charging. My boyfriend has the same charger, so I switched to his to experiment. Battery 2 started to "charge" while Battery 1 stopped. Neither has gained any charge, however. When I switched back to my charging cable, Battery 2 continues to be the one to "charge" and now the battery says it's at 7%. I uninstalled the drivers, took the battery out for a minute and rebooted, reinstalled the drivers, and there's been no change. I went into Lenovo Settings and tried to run the Reset Gauge, but it failed as the battery would not charge. Additionally, none of the thresholds are on. As it is being powered by the cable, and not shutting down, I know that it might be alright as long as I keep it plugged in perpetually, but I'm concerned that once the battery drops low enough that it will just stop booting.Any advice or suggestions is appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Dear community, I have some strange behavior with my X1Y3 which does only charge the battery if I shut down the PC without charger plugged-in and then plug the charger once the system is off. In this special case the small orange LED is lid up and the battery is charged. During power-on, in sleep and even when hibernating the orange LED stays off and the battery is not being charged. Windows 10 gives me the information that AC is plugged in but the battery is not being charged ("plugged in, but not charging) and also the Vantage Tool correctly recognizes the 65W charger being connected. What could be the issue? Driver, charging unit or the battery itself? I'm simply puzzled. Thanks in advance and cheers

Hi, I have an older gateway laptop, with vista on it. The laptop says it charges fine, but once i power it up it makes somewhat of a screeching and a ringing noise, and stops charging. The laptop itself can be fully charged and die in soon to about 5 five minutes when unplugged, but that is usual. The main issue is, when the laptop is powerd down, its light that shows that it's chargine, or fully charged and plugged in, when i power the laptop, the charger just stops working, and does the screeching deal.

So I'm out of town and I forgot my power cord for my laptop. I am using someone elses HP charger but it only charges when it is in sleep mode or the power is off. The charger that came with my laptop I beleave was a 65 wat charger but I'm not 100% sure. The one I'm borrowing is 45 wat. Is there anyway to get the charger to charge when my computer is in normal use?

This laptop will only charge if Windows is Shut Down and the cord is connected. We have had sporadic success disabling and/or uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery from the Device Manager, but this only works for a short time, and then the issue returns.  We have updated BIOS Update for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Windows 8 (64-bit), Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Windows 10 (64-bit) - Notebook Version: 9ECN43WW(V3.03) from here:http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Lenovo-Y-Series-laptops/Y50-70-Noteboo...We also tried installing Advanced Configuration and Power Management Interface (ACPI) Driver for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit) ..., but it does not seem to do anything. We have tried another power supply that is known to be working, and it has the same result. Operating System is Windows 10 (64-bit)

Have any of You Dear Yoga 900 users suceeded charging iPhone 7 from Yoga 900-13ISK  powered USB (the one with little battery symbol) while laptop is off and unplugged from the wall? My laptop is not able to do this, but it charges other devices like Griffin BT headset adapter, Anker Soundcore etc. When laptop is on, USB port works well. I'm able to charge my iPhone 7 form my wife's Yoga 500-14IBD, which  is equipped with exactly the same powered (always-on) USB 3.0. The only idea I have, is that this strange behaviour is somehow connected with BIOS. I updated my BIOS in November, 2016 to ver. C6CN39WW (Insyde H.20). That version of BIOS has no toggle to enable or disable USB always-on (my wife's Yoga 500 have it).  I would be grateful if anyone could share their experience about this issue. I need to be sure if it is a software/BIOS/hardware thing, cause my laptop is under warranty. Official support told my that USB 3.0 is not able to charge iPhone 7 at all since it needs 1A and USB 3.0 is 0,9A only, but this is obviously a rubbish since I wouldn't be able to charge it from my wife's Yoga. Thanks KubaM

Hi there

Intuitively one might think using Powered (from the mains) external USB HDD's would require more power from the computer as well compared with those small self powered units.

I've no way to measure this but I'm sure the small units might consume MORE power as the computer has to supply all the power for Disk rotation and the USB I/O controller.

I only ask this because I need to put two large powered USB units (both with 2 X 3 TB Raid 0 HDD's in each unit) on to a USB 3 Hub.
The two HDD units seem to perform perfectly well whether connected to the chargeable port on an HP laptop or the "non chargeable" ones.

The RAID 0 is powered by the HDD itself (internal Hardware RAID) --used RAID 0 for speed -- don't need to mirror etc - I've enough backup if the whole thing goes bonkers. !!

The files on these HDD's are serving music and video so not intensive used -- don't seem to have any problem streaming media from the laptop.

Any engineers out there - curious over what is the actual load (power wise) on the computer if a POWERED USB HDD is used compared to a Self powered one. Note the Hub I'm using is not also powered.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

Hi...

I am having a problem with my laptop computer. I figured out that my laptop, when being charged or using the Power Outlet, runs at 100% CPU at times, and slows me down when running and working on some open applications. At first I thought I had tons of spyware or even a virus, and even posted a Hijackthis file here. Nothing was found.
I figured out that my cpu runs at 100% when using the power outlet, or when my computer is chargnig. When I unplug the powercord and use the battery life, everything runs GREAT!!!!! my cpu drops to a normal 4-8% usage with multiple applications running. WEIRD huh? Can anyone relate to this ?? Is this and indication that my battery is going bad???? Can someone help me with this or suggest what is going on? I am running windows XP home edition, and have a compac presario 1500 series. i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Thank you

Hi Guys, I have had to change my battery, got a brand new DELL battery but I can't get it to charge...I'm running Windows 10 PRO. I have tried the fixes listed above but unfortunately NONE has solved my problem. Any suggestions?

A:XPS 12 9Q23 Power Charging Disabled / Plugged in, NOT CHARGING

Hi DAEMONROD.
Where have you purchased the battery from? Does the old battery charge fine when plugged in?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another power adapter and check. If the adapter fits in loose, then the dc port needs to be replaced. You would need this part.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help

A:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

For some reason my laptop once stopped charging, I tried a few different outlets at a library and non of them made the laptop start charging again (charging = organge light glowing). I got home, and my outlets there didn't work either. THen after a while I tried an outlet again, and it worked. Then this problem occured one more time (then I fixed it somehow). And the last time it occured  I haven't been able to fix it. Trust me I've tried almost everything, I tried turnign it off taking the battery out and holding the powere button then trying to charge it, I tried waiting for hours, but  have not tried a new charger.  So here is the problem I see: I plug in the charger, and the charging LED does not glow, instead it randomly (it seems random) blinks.  I once left my laptop to do that for hours, and it still didn't even charge. Hi supporter,
I buy a laptop DELL XPS 13 9350 from Microsoft store (NY) last week. But it stop charging at 80%. I have read all related topics on this forum, but my issue isn't solve. I did: - Update Window- update BIOS ver 1.4.4- BIOS > setting > general Battery Information: health excellent, 80% (Idle), AC Adapter = 45W-Power Management > Primary Battery Charge Configuration: Standard- all step here (www.dell.com/.../SLN296542), except (step 5 & 6).- I ran diognasis test in BIOS: everything passed. What could I do next? Thanks

Today, battery not charging at 70% but if I unplug power cord, it turns off immediately and can not power it on until I plug in. So I must charge battery continually during using. My laptop now becomes desktop!
Check battery heath (F2): "battery must replace". My laptop is OK except battery.
What happened with my new laptop for using 3 weeks?

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

I have tried removing the battery, turning on, deleting the ACPI-compliant control method battery, turning off, and turning back on again (as advised in other forum responses), but with no joy. At first I thought it could either be a battery issue, but the fact it fully charged overnight whilst off would lead me to believe it's not, and is probably a software / settings issue. I recently bought an X250, and immediately upon using it, found that the spacebar is not as responsive as all the older thinkpads I've had in the past. Specifically, when I type I press on the right side of the spacebar to create a space, but my usual amount of force is no longer responded to by the keyboard. If I push harder, it will respond, but that's annoying because it slows down my typing speed. If I press on the middle of the spacebar it works much better, and if I press it with my left thumb it works better, too. Does that mean I'm typing wrong all these years, or did I end up with a bad key?  I have depot service, so would Lenovo address this if I send it in? If I send this in, do I need to remove all the data on the machine? Would they replace the spacebar or the entire keyboard as I saw somewhere? How long would it take? Gotta say that the keyboard is much worse than the X230 that I am coming from. Thanks for any heads up!

I too have this problem. What's the solution other than retraining your typing?

I just finished installing an EM7345 WWAN card in my X250 running Win 7 and when I launch Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation I receive an error that the SIM cannot be read.  The support info for the error tells me that the SIM is not found. When I use netsh mbn sh read int=* from command prompt I also see that SIM is not inserted. I have verified SIM is correctly inserted.I have verified SIM works in another device. Any thoughts?  I have been scouring for guidance on this for quite a while now.

Hello!  I have an x250 with a 2.5" SSD hard drive with Windows 10 installed. I would like to install a second m.2 or mSata SSD and install Linux to have a dual-boot system.  Is this possible with the X250? If so what kind of hard drive do I need to install in the second harddrive slot, and what is the limit on capacity? (Ideally I'd be looking for a 500gb ssd)  Thanks for your help!   -GZ    Lenovo Thinkpad X250 Intel i5-5300U Intel HD Graphics 55008 GB RAM

I've just received a new X250, maxed out, and I'm really unhappy. Within a few minutes of booting it, I was seeing red and blue horizontal lines on the screen. I hoped these would be fixed by updates, but regardless of the driver, they are still there. To add insult to injury, the ports on the left hand side of the laptop do not line up with the casing. The USB port can be used, but the Display Port is seriously rubbing. The VGA connector is unusable. I'd hoped I'd have the laptop a week before I started a new job, and now it looks like I will be a week later. Does anyone know how I best approach Lenovo for a replacement under the Sale of Goods Act? I really don't want it to be repaired - this is a bad machine.

A:Really disappointed in new X250

Sorry to hear about the issues with your new X250. That must be very frustrating. According to Lenovo, returns should be easy providing you do it within 14 days.

I appreciate you may not receive the replacement before you start your new job. You might want to ask Lenovo if they have a similarly configured X250 in stock that they could send you instead of waiting for the replacement to come from China.

Hello guys I recently bought a second hand X250 with an Intel 240gb SSD installed and I am planning to install also an M.2 SSD to install Linux.I have already installed Linux in another partition in the Intel, but in general I am not a big fan of grub and also I don't like the restriction of maximum 4 primary partitions per disk. I would prefer to keep the Windows drive 100% clean of any Linux staff. So, I'm planning to install my Linux in the M.2 drive (I have already cleaned my system disk of the Linux staff, grub etc) and I was wondering if choosing the boot up device from the bios is going to be an option, without grub or other boot loaders. I just want to leave the Intel as default boot device and when I want to boot up in Linux, I will choose to boot from the M.2 SSD.Will such a setup work in my Thinkpad? As far as the M.2 drive itself, a 120 gb is more than enough and I am planning to go for an ADATA. I have read a lot of negative reviews about the Transcend M.2s and I don't trust "random" manufacturers, like ZTC or KingDian. Is there any better option for me? Thank you very much for your time. I 'm looking forward to your replies. Cheers

I already had a SATA SSD in the third M.2 slot. The SSD went bad. Now I'm looking for a replacement. I saw Toshiba made a 2242 form factor NVMe SSD (RC100). Can I use an NVMe SSD in X250? Help much appreciated. Thank you.

My second X250 came in with a 16GB SanDisk SSD in addition to a 500GB HDD. Reading through the forum, a post mentioned that this 16GB SSD is placed in the position of the smart card reader. The mannual says this is a 3rd NGFF adapter. I am wondering if this 16GB SSD can be upgraded with a m.2 2242 32GB SSD module (or other types). I opened the back cover, lifted the internal battery, then lifted the shining metal cover a little and I don't see a memory module and port under it. I have installed Linux Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on to this 16GB SSD; the Ubuntu install runs well except that only 1.5GB space left. I am trying to see if there is a way to replace this 16GB SSD with a larger size module. Using the m.2 port next to the WiFi card is my last resort. I need advice before taking more parts apart. Thank you.

Hello, I try to set 4k on LG 27UD68-W, but I am not successful. I have latest display drivers and latest bios. But still, I may set only FHD. I use mDP to HDMI cable which supports 4k - tried it with MCB. I have WIN10-64b installed (updated from WIN8). I will be thankful for any tips.

I have 3 company X250's, i know they have a 16GB mSATA SSD. I throw in some new 256GB SSD's to replaced the standard HHD. Is the only way to reimage those new SSD's to take out the 16GB mSATA SSD so that they wont fail? I was getting this error every time i tried "system_thread_exception_not_handled(ndis.sys)". Is there a way to disable that drive temporally in the BIOS?

Hi, I just bought a X250 today. I received it with Windows 7 Pro, and the first thing I did was upgrade it to Windows 10. After an hour of use, I noticed that the battery was draining really fast. I clicked in the battery icon on the system tray and noticed that it says: Battery 1: This battery is not available for useBattery 2: 40% (or whatever) I opened Device Manager and I see two devices listed under the "batteries" section, both of them called "Battery with Microsoft ACPI-compliant control method" (translating from Spanish, which is my system language, so it might not be exactly like this). I guess this means that the system indeed detects that there are two batteries, so it looks like a software problem. I right clicked on both of them and selected "uninstall", and then went to action > look for hardware changes, so that should refresh the driver. After doing that, the "battery 1: this battery is not available" message still appears. I also noticed that there was a power manager application from Lenovo which is not compatible with Windows 10. After upgrading, Windows notified me that this app had been removed and I don't see a W10 equivalent on the support downloads section of the Lenovo website. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Pau

A:X250 Battery 1 "is not available for use"

I also tried unplugging the second battery (the removable one). Immediately after unplugging it, the computer shuts down. If I turn it on without the second battery and plugged into the wall outlet, the icon in the lower right corner (system tray) says "no battery found"; however, on device manager I still can see one battery appearing. If I click on "properties" in device manager, it says that the device is working correctly, and there is no sign of any error log or crash report inside the battery properties in device manager.  I tried updating the BIOS and resetting BIOS to defaults, and it makes no difference. I also tried running Ubuntu from a USB stick ("try" option) and it only detects the second battery, not the integrated one.  I guess it must be a hardware problem.
