I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Try the following. Shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Regards, DP-K

Hi
I have an ASUS laptop which runs windows 10 but does not have a CAPS/NUM/SCROLL lock indicator light. So naturally I enabled toggle keys, however 6 months on and the constant, irritating beep each time I press a button I need is starting to drive me insane. I have previously researched how to remove this 'toggle keys' feature after it would not disable if i just reversed the procedure i did to enable it. This involved using regedit and removing flags data and restarting the laptop. After numerous attempts this did not work. I have found related settings in the control panel and attempted to turn these off however I click apply and then ok but one return to the settings page the settings has not changes. I expect this is an issue in itself.

Would anyone be able to assist me on this and any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks

Every so often I open my laptop and try to change the display brightness or use any of the hot keys I find that they've been turned off. I've had this laptop for over two years and this just started happening recently. I was able to install an older version of Lenovo Vantage so I now have the ability to turn the hot keys back on, however it seems that this setting never saves and it always reverts to hot keys off. Anyone know a fix for this?

So I am having trouble with this toogle key thing. I turned in on by mistake a few weeks ago (great mistake). Probelm is from then onwards, when ever I turn it off it activates again after I restart my computer.
I looked online and read that I have to change the "sign- in settings'' so that It doesn't turn on my toogle keys whenever I restart my laptop. I did thta hoping it would fix the issue, however it is still happening.
After I reset everything (ease of access + sing in settings) and restart my laptop it turns everything on again. It even resets my sing in settings so that y tootgle keys turn on afater restart (even though I change it everytime).
I am now out of solutions and HATE THE ANNOYING TOOGLE KEY SOUND. I really just want help disabling it for good. can anyone help?

When you lose sound, look in Device Manager for any error symbols (that means a device driver problem).
If there are no errors there when the sound has gone, it's unlikely to be a driver problem.
But if there is an error in there, re-installing the sound driver may fix it.
Get the driver from the Dell website. Go here and enter your computer's service tag or use the model selector:

Lets try some things first.

Rightclick on the volume icon near the clock and choose Open Volume Controls. Options | Properties. Tick all the boxes and OK.
Are any of the controls muted, or lowered? If so, unmute or increase the control.

Now, lets look at the other's. Go to Control Panel | System. Device Manager. Under Display will be your video card. What is it?
Under Audio will be your sound card. Again, what is it?
Also, are there any yellow !'s in there?

Disclaimer: I am no computer expert, also new to this site so hello, and I've also already searched extensively for solutions before posting this, and tried them, to no avail. also, I have an HP Envy, Windows 8, 8 gigs of RAM (if that's relevant) and the name of my soundcard (or what I think is my soundcard) is IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. Now onto the problem:

This started happening a few months ago. Usually when I'm listening to music or playing a game, the sound will sometimes go off completely after a while, just suddenly. The sound goes off regardless of whether I'm using earphones or laptop speakers. Some other symptoms of this are that the volume slider will not go up or down, or do it very slowly, like if I hold it down it only goes down from 100 to 96. Also, the mute blinker light stops working. Basically the entire sound system, and maybe soundcard, stops responding. If I try to fiddle with it too much, it also affects computer speed in general, and it starts making noises and getting warm. The only TEMPORARY fix I have found is to either restart, or close then open my laptop lid twice. If done only once, the volume slider and mute blinker start working again, but there's still no sound. I have already tried disabling and enabling my sound driver. When I do this, the little caution icon comes up next to it and it doesn't run properly, but upon restarting it's fine (though it never fixes the sound problem permanently). Same thi... Read more

Hi BradN10..

What I would do is...

Go to My Computer/Control Panel then look for the "Modems" icon and double click it. When the new window comes up make sure your modem type is highlighted. Then click the "Properties" button.
A new window will pop up with your modem name on it. You will be able to see a dial up volume slider. You would slide it all the way to the left to turn it off.

When volume if off... click ok on everything.

Hope that will help you

This is really irritating. It happens at random.

I could be playing WoW, watching youtube, or just listening to music, and my sound will turn itself down. When I try to slide the bar back up to full volume, it slowly slides back down! The ONLY way I can fix this is to reboot my system.

I know it is in no way my power supply - I just got a brand new Corsair installed a week ago, and to be honest, this problem was present with my old PSU as well. Any idea as to what's going on? I'd like to have functional sound for once.

PS:

I can't update any drivers related to the Microsoft company. My computer has that problem where I've upgraded so much hardware, my copy of windows doesn't recognize itself as legal anymore, so I have to avoid service packs, automatic updates, etc. until I get my new machine and a new OS and such. So I'd prefer a solution where I don't have to convince Microsoft that my computer has been upgraded "too" much. XD.

Edit: It was my keyboard, I think. It's got a really touchy touch screen volume control/track skipping interface. All I had to do was push my keyboard's mute button. I would try to disable the touch screen altogether if I didn't need it to control the backlit illumination levels. So if you're having my problem, try messing with your keyboard's volume control!

A:having trouble turning computer on and off, now there is no sound

Check for malware thoroughly, then run CleanUp as indicated below - then if needed run StartUp
Repair. There is also a link for a Repair Installation if needed (allows you to keep programs and
data).
If you need to check for malware here are my recommendations - these will allow you to do
a thorough check and removal without ending up with a load of spyware programs running
resident which can cause as many issues as the malware and maybe harder to detect as the
cause.
No one program can be relied upon to detect and remove all malware. Added that often easy
to detect malware is often accompanied by a much harder to detect and remove payload. So
its better to be overly thorough now than to pay the high price later. Check with these to an
extreme overkill point and then run the cleanup only when you are very sure the system is clean.
These can be done in Safe Mode - repeatedly tap F8 as you boot however you should also run
them in regular Windows when you can.
Download malwarebytes and scan with it, run MRT, and add Prevx to be sure it is gone.
(If Rootkits run UnHackMe)
Download - SAVE - go to where you put it - Right Click on it - RUN AS ADMIN
Malwarebytes - freehttp://www.malwarebytes.org/
Run the Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool
Start - type in Search box -> MRT find at top of list - Right Click on it - RUN AS ADMIN.

I have a recurring issue. I'll be listening to music or a Youtube video or whatever, when suddenly my master sound level will slide to zero. I can't override manually. If I try to override using the mixer on the screen, or the hardward "+" sound button, there is a fight between my effort and whatever is turning the sound down. So the sound goes up and is adjusted down right away, as long as I hold the button on the laptop or on the screen the sounds zigs and zags up and down. If stop pushing the button, the sound goes to zero. After about a minute, the problem goes away and the sound may be adjusted up again. Also, apparently, if I whack my keyboard on the desk, I'm able to adjust the sound.

Another, related issue is that when I'm typing, the sound level bars (a white bar on a big black background in the lower middle of the screen, courtesy of Lenovo, and the narrower Windows green bar to the lower right) pop up periodically (say every few minutes) and every time they do, the sound level goes down by one increment. This latter problem got me thinking, as it happens only when I'm typing. Could it be my keyboard?

I tried the volume key on the Microsoft Natural Wireless keyboard, and sure enough, pushing either "+" or "-" set off the "sound to zero" problem. Is this a known issue with MS keyboards, or with the Mouse and Keyboard Center software (or earlier drivers for mouse and keyboard)? Or do I have a weirdly broken keyboa... Read more

I recently did a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64 bit. There were some issues requiring repeated formats and reinstallations. The only remaining issue I can recognize is a wierd one - namely, when I turn off the monitor I hear a "ding-dong" sound from my speakers. If I turn on the monitor fast enough, the ding-dong stops. If I wait, the PC goes into an irretrievable sleep. None of these symptoms occur in the Safe Mode. I upgraded my video driver but the symptoms persisted. I've not been able to find a Win 7 compatible driver for my sound card - Soundblaster X-FI SB0467 (according to Dell/support).

Any thoughts/solutions would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of days ago while watching a video, the sound just cut out, no warning, error message or anything. When I double clicked the speaker icon in the system tray, the slider in the 'wave' section was right at the bottom. I dragged it back up and the sound came back, but after a while it happened again.

Also, when I open task manager, I see that there are two instances of iexplore.exe running, and I don't use Internet Explorer. When I try to end the processes, they just come back within seconds. Occasionally, an internet explorer window pops up but it's always a http 404 error ('this page cannot be found', or something along those lines).

I'm not sure if the two are related, but when I blocked iexplore.exe with a program called Process Blocker, as well as no popups appearing, the sound seemed to stay on though it could have been a coincidence.

I use Avast and have done scans with that as well as Spybot S&D and a quick scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, fixed everything they found but that didn't fix the problem.

Any help or advice on what to do would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I also tried to have IE connect to a non-working proxy 0.0.0.0 port 80 so it wouldn't connect to the Internet, but then Firefox stopped working as well, so reversed that setting to normal. Hello everyone,

My computer recently has had some software/hardware issue and I need help on fixing it. What happened was I replaced a cell battery in it after I had first heard the sound. Soon after I had put on Artic Silver and the problem was still occuring. I have considered Geeksquad but they are quite expensive and I do not want to go to such lengths just yet. My computer was custom built so I'm not sure if any specific settings were added in or something. As far as my Computer specs go these are what they are:

8800GT Nvidia Graphics Card
Intel Desktop Board DQ35J0
X-Fi Sound Card
4GB Ram
500GB Hard Drive {Seagate}

If there is anything else needed to be known about this problem please do let me know. Also I had a keyboard malfunction where it had been typing the wrong keys if you can also help me with this please do post. I do have reason to believe its mainly a power failure but I do not know how to replace/fix it.

Thanks in advance!

You left out a couple pieces of information... the power supply specs and what the actual noise sounds like

I have Lenovo C540 All in one machine. It is not turning on at all. I checked power cables, tried to perform a power reset by pressing the Power on button for 60 seconds and then plug the power cable. Nothing seems to work. Check the recording for the sound. Let me know how this can be fixed.  Thx

turning down your hardware acceleration sound helps framerate and sound issues in certain games. I have this game called Street Legal redline, with sound on full acceleration the game crawls or seems to drag a bit, so turning off the sound acceleration to none, i can play the game at the highest settings running at 15-20fps.
And the lag is gone, nice and smooth.

Of course it helps frame rates, your running a Pentium III... If I turn the HA all the way up on my old Coppermine the system lags unbelievably and barely runs any of my older games. If you had a slightly newer setup, you probably wouldn't notice that much of a difference... because of the more powerful hardware devices.

After turned on the cursor would not , if i press "ESC" key the cursor becomes active and again some error sound will come and it will not work properly. There is a lag while using the touch pad and also  If i delete the file it is not deleting. Please suggest if i can do anything for that problem before carrying to the service center.

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? It's pretty annoying for the music to turn down twice as fast or winamp's volume bar to not even work at all.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

Audio muting  by itself on HP Elite BookThe F5 and F8 buttons turn themselves on which mutes the aaudio sounds and the microphone. I've been unable to turn them back on by pressing the Fn key as it won?t work. (The Fn keys do work for other commands).I have had to reset/restart the laptop a number of times to correct the issue but it will randomly happen again - frustrating! There was a recent HP update on my laptop so I am not sure if this has casued the problem.Any solutions are most welcome.

My laptop stopped working over a year ago. I left my room for about 2 minute to come back and find it shut down and couldn't power it back on. I took it to a local repair shop and they told me my Motherboard was fried out and they could fix it once they ordered a replacement part. I got the laptop back to find out the sound card wasn't working, I've tried everything possible to fix it but no luck. A few months later while taking an exam some of the keys stopped working, I was forced to use the on screen keyboard. It's been running slow for a while now and when I open a box on my deskstop the box is black with white text, sometimes I would have to highlight the inside of the box to read. I'm pretty sure it needs to be repaired again, the right way. I've tried calling out of warranty support but I can't get through because the automated system is going in a loop when I press the number for my situation.
