Can you cut the wifi cable and the monitor cable?

Q: Can you cut the wifi cable and the monitor cable?

Can you cut the wifi cable and the monitor cable, remove the cover/scree and use an external monitor without having to go inside and unplug them?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, 1. Wifi is normally for wireless (no cable at all).2. You can cut anything BUT we need to know exactly what is your hardware to be able to show you where to cut or can not cut. Regards.

A week ago, my computer suddenly could not connect to the internet. I was using a cable directly connected to the cable modem.

Since then, I've tried:

1) Added a WiFi router connected to the cable modem. Tried using the WiFi card built in to the computer. It connects but reports "limited access", and there is no connection to the internet, and I can't access the router itself.

2) Bought a new Ethernet card, installed the drivers that came with it. I've tried it connected through the WiFi router's hard ports and directly to the modem. Hard resets (power cycling off 2 minutes) on the modem each time and still no connection.

3) In device manager, both Ethernet cards show as "working normally" with no errors. So does the WiFi card.

4) ipconfig shows only "tunneling" devices with media disconnected.

5) I've uninstalled and re-installed the drivers for the on-baord Ethernet, the WiFi card, and the new Ethernet card.

After reading some other posts, I captured the output from ipconfig and several netsh commands. I've attached them to this post. The files starting with netsh are basically the command entered with underscores replacing the spaces from the commands used to generate them.

I also borrowed another computer. It connects both directly through the cable modem, and using the Ethernet ports on the router. It doesn't have WiFi, so I couldn't test that method of access. It can also connect to and c... Read more

I apologize if the answer to this Q has been posted somewhere, but I looked 'til I went cross-eyed, and I couldn't find an answer...so here goes. [Btw: I love cross-eyed ppl; my grandma is cross-eyed!]

As stated in my title, my internet connection is Xplornet fixed wireless. The connection from the tripod on the roof into my house is via a network cable. This is where my problem lies. I am quite sure what else to do, because I need the modem along with the router for my setup...apparently... [NOTE: The following explanation is a result of me following the instruction through my Belkin router setup assistant...the setup stops when I cannot get past the first step ]

Since my Siemens SpeedStream 6520 external modem's primary input [for the internet connection] is for a DSL cable, I am basically screwed. Is there such thing as an adapter to plug a DSL cable into one end, and a network cable into the other end so that I can plug into this 'IN' port? All of the other ports on the modem are for network cables, of course, but they are 'outgoing' ports...

here is my issue:

my NEW access point is using a 15m ethernet cable connection from router, the message i get on my laptop is when i search wireless networks: netweork with no or limited connectivity !

when i change cables and use a shorter one (1.5m) the connection works pefectly !!!

is it a cable problem ? cable too long or cable damaged?

i dont believe it is a setting problem since with the same setting it is working and not working depending on the cable i use.

A:Access point - Wireless issues (cable or not cable?)

The cables are mis-wired. There should be NO difference between the operation of a short cable and cables up to 100 meters long.

Since last night, my LAN connection has been giving me the error "Network cable unplugged." I have tried swapping the cable with another, swapping the ports on the router, restarting the router, power cycling the router, turning off the router and my computer and then turning them back on, and nothing has worked.

My computer has two network connections: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and a Hamachi network, which the computer is using (but not getting Internet on, of course) - I assume because it isn't giving a network cable unplugged error. This is the network controller that comes on my Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P motherboard, and it has the latest driver from the manufacturer's site (7.6.820.2009). In the device manager, it says that the device is working properly. There is a green light under the ethernet cable on the router, but not where it attaches to the motherboard (I can't remember if there was one before or not, though).

The Realtek Diagnostics Tool says the following:
IP Address
Connection NAme: Local Area Network
Link Status: Disconnected

It has a tab for Cable diagnostics, which says the following (Pair/Length/Status):

1-2 0 Normal
3-6 115 Normal
4-5 0 Normal
7-8 191 Short

When I run diagnostics, Register, Mac Loopback, PHY Loopback, IRQ, and FIFO all pass.

Recently I had to test my cable modem by directly plugging the output cable of the modem to a computer. The problem is that I have 3 computers: One desktop and two laptops. All three computers are running Windows 7, 64 bit and service pack 1. The three computer models are: (1) Dell Vostro, (2) Levovo Ideacentre and (3) Sony Vaio. All computers are less than a year old. When I cpnnect the cable modem RJ45 cable to the Vostro the browser works great. However, when I connect the same cable into either the Ideacentre or the Vaio the browser does not see the signal. Therefore a signal is coming out of the modem (as demonstrated by the Vostro) but I can't figure out why the other two computers don't see the signal? I checked the computer configurations in the command mode but that did not help much. Any ideas?

I am having a strange problem with a computer that I have. I have internet only when a cable is plugged into this device. Using wifi, no matter where, it will say connected. When I try to surf using any of the 4 browsers I have it tells me I'm not connected to the internet. To further complicate this issue, When I have this pc connected via hard wire then disconnect the wire and switch to wifi I can only browse the website that I was on with the wire. I tried this with cnn.com. I loaded cnn.com with the cable connected, disconnected this cable, then started clicking tabs. They all loaded just fine. I even read some of the articles. Here is a list of the things I have tried

1. First thing I did was run a rootkit search using tdsskiller.exe (rootkits can do some amazing things)
2. Reset all of my internet explorer settings to default
3. made sure there wasn't a proxy configured via internet options
4. Released and renewed IP and DNS using auto configure
5. Tried the winsock fix and restarted.
6. Ran Malwarebytes
7. Tried turning off/disabling the wireless and re-enabling it.
8. Uninstalled the most recent microsoft updates
9. Restored my computer using safe mode
10.Restored my computer using factory windows only restore. (Saves all of your files without reformatting)
1. This computer is part of a domain because it is a business computer. But I have the same results even logging in locally as administrator
2. All rootkit/malware scans came back with 0 results.

I was wondering whether it is possible at all to purchase any hardware/software that would allow me to convert the wired connection to wifi? Bearing in mind I only have access to the jack on the wall. I'm not sure if it is even possible but it's just annoying that I have to pay per device.

My house has been networked for some time now. I have had a router and two computers. Recently I added a laptop. I ran a new cable from my router through the basement and up into the living room. At first I couldn't connect at all. I cut off ten feet of the cable and I could connect but not very fast. Then I switched for an unrelated reason from dsl to cable. Now I try to download a page and I get the date and half of the page in a minute. When I disconnect the laptop and plug it in where my main computer is I have no problems. My kids desktop is connected fine but the laptop won't connect at all on their connetion. Do you think I need a better quality cat 5 cable? I think the length is about 50 to 60 feet. I am not ready to spend the money to go wireless yet so that is not an option. Thanks in advance.

A:Networking, length of cable and quality of cable

Cable Quality especially on long runs is very important. You can come up against allot of external interference as well as signal strength dropping. Laptops are finicky when it comes to the above
problems. I suspect if you were to hook up a PC in the Living room
you would not have the problem. Cat5 cables come in different flavors, for instance Beldon cable has three qualities of cat5.
You may want to talk to a local PC shop and see if you can purchase the highest quality cat5 available to the specific length you need. Higher quality cable are not cheap either, the per foot price can be significant. Spend some time on the net checking different cable vendors and you will see the difference.
cat5, cat5 shielded and so on.

I have a cable modem attached to a network (router, cascaded to other routers - different vendors routers but it works / to attach 10 computers). The PCs use a lot of data/bandwith part of the day and works well, generally, but the cable modem sometimes has outages and its important we get network working again. We have no IT support. So thank you in advance for any direction you can provide.

I also have a DSL line/router that is not attached to anything (except it provides wireless).

Question: Can I just swing the cable from the cable modem over to the DSL router and expect internet to work?

I tried it one day and it worked, but we had very limited usage.

I tried it another time when the cable modem/internet failed - and it didn't seem to work. The usage was much higher so I don't know if the amount of data or the required "handshake" would take longer. or what...can you advise. This is just vanilla internet connection. No VPN or such. The applications can be shut down and reopened. But we would rather not have to reboot the PCs.

Second question would be: if I have both DSL and Cable Modem sitting next to each other - can I attach both so they can both be used and provide back up.

The pc ethernet port has worked 100% up to this point. I'll just tell you what happened, Somehow, the tip of the speaker connection managed to get stuck in the green port.

After reading about what to do online, i opened up the pc and managed to open the back of the sound ports and push out the tip with a paperclip. But when I started up the pc again the ethernet cable wasent being dectected.

I've tried the cable out with the laptop and it works 100%, i've also tried a different cable into the pc and that isint being detected either (works 100% with laptop).

The drivers should be upto date. I had to remove the power supply cables from the inside of the computer to get at the sound ports , maybe i didnt put them back right? What cable controls the ethernet port?

I'm a bit lost, the lights on the lan port dont light up either.

Any ideas?

So I my laptop is upstairs and my At&t Uverse cable modem is downstairs and I believe there is some interference in the ceiling because although the signal always reads as "excellent" often times it seems to run a bit slower upstairs than when i bring it one floor down. I was wondering if connecting the laptop to the modem directly would be more helpful. (I already have a hidden wiring route that I made to run a hdmi cable from my tv downstairs to the laptop upstairs) I bought a 50ft cable cord and was wondering if all i need to do is plug it in or if i have to somehow program the connection so it knows to run through the cable instead of the wireless signal. I don't have a router either...not sure if id need one as they didn't provide one. Detailed help is much appreciated!

A:How do I set up a connection to a cable modem with a cable cord?

Just plug it in at both ends. It should work fine.

Once plugged in, it will take a few seconds to detect the new wired network and get an IP Address. After that you should be all set.

Edit: You can disable the Wireless if you want. There is either a switch on the laptop or a Fn+Fkey combination to do it.

I am networking my house and about to go out and buy everything.

I currently have An ADSL 4 port router (10/100) that gives me Internet connection to my three computers on my first floor. I want to give the computers on my second floor access to the network and Internet, I was just wondering on what type of cables I should use.

As I only have one port left I was thinking of buying a hub that would be on my second floor (this would also mean I would only need one one single cable running from downstairs to upstairs). Now should I be using a normal Cat5e network cable to connect the router and the hub or a crossover cable?

From the hub on the second floor I would then connect the other computers I have using normal Cat5e network cables.

Does all this make sense?

Thanks in advance

A:Crossover cable or Normal network cable?

you would use a normal straight through cable to connet the router to the hub. You only need a crossover when directly connecting two pc's.

Basically what happened before: After updating to Windows 10, my computer was not showing any network options. (The icon says "Not connected - No connections are available) Going into Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network Connections, it then says "Local Area Connection Network cable unplugged". I ran diagnostics and it said to plug in the ethernet cable to the network adaptor. So my wifi connection will not work with my laptop unless directly connected to by the ethernet cable. Wifi works fine with phones, ipods/ipads, and another laptop that was also updated to windows 10/a desktop still using windows 8.

A:Wifi not connecting without Ethernet cable

If you can't connect with Wi-Fi plugging in an Ethernet cable is bypassing the wireless entirely. Have you checked Control Panel, Device Manager [or right-click the Start button and choose Device Manager], see if maybe you need to download then install drivers for your Wireless Network adapter? Check the Network work section, are there any yellow symbols there? Is the Wireless adapter listed? If so maybe it needs to have the drivers updated, right-click and make the choice while still connected. The downside to Upgrading to Win10 is the "it worked in Win7 w/SP1 or Win8.1" doesn't guarantee it works in Win10 without updating drivers that Microsoft may not yet have available, they usually come from the manufacturer of devices.

I will be staying at a house for just a couple of weeks where the wifi & cable/satellite have been cancelled. I am looking for reasonably priced options for getting internet on my iPad or laptop, other than hanging out at libraries or Starbucks- free public wifi seems pretty unsafe. Trying to email & use the internet only on my iPhone will get old fast. What about a mobile hotspot? I don't really know how they work or if affordable. My cell service is with AT&T & I am grandfathered in to unlimited data, but it slows down after a certain amount. I will also be equally in withdrawal from my DirectTV & DVR. There should be a TV there, so hopefully I can at least get some local network channels with an antenna. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Not too technical please- I'm old!

Doesn't "unlimited data" with AT&T allow the iPhone to be used as a hotspot? If so, you're already paying for it. If not, check and see if you can change to another plan that does allow hotspot use and at a reasonable cost relative to your current plan. Note that how well a hotspot willl work for you depends on the quality of the cell service at the particular location.

Hey everybody,
I have a question...I just got a cable high-speed internet (provided by Adelphia) maybe a week ago and I am constantly experiencing intermittent sluggish performance. The Adelphia guy came a week ago and he installed the cable modem and I guess at that time everything was woriking fine (I wasn't here when he installed it). Now, he installed it in one room only so me an my roomate bought a LinkSys WiFi router 802.11b since I have a laptop and a wireless card. We put the router in the room where internet is installed and configured it. Now, what happens is that every now and then when I click on a link it takes 10-30 sec to either open that website or it gives me the page as if I was online. Then I hit refresh and it works fine. This happens all the time and it happens on both computers. Does anyone have a clue what might be causing this ???? Thanks in advance...

A:Cable ( or WiFi) Internet Issues

If the directly connected computer doesn't experience these symptoms, my guess is you have a interference issue with your wireless connection. Do you have any microwave ovens and/or 2.4ghz wireless phones nearby?

I have a emachines PC and Acer monitor. I developed a short in the cable to the monitor. It would cause the color to dim. I purchased a new cable and pluged in in. The power light on the monitor flashes and will not come on. I replaced the old cable and the monitor came on. I disconnect the cable and replace the new one. it works. When I turn the PC off it does the same thing again. I again use the old cable, monitor comes on, replace the new cable and monitor works. Each time I turn the PC off I have to use the old cable to get the monitor to work. I have read the questions about this subject however none are quite like this and do not solve the problem.

Thanks Bob

What is the model # of your Emachine? Do you have a separate video card? or just using the onboard VGA output? if the later, then go to the Emachines site and find your model # and download the Video/Display driver for your computer and install that.

Hello, I'm CrazyKilla

Currently I'm using a dvi to vga converter on my gpu to a vga cable into my monitor.
I hear the best cables to use are hdmi and displayport, but last I tried hdmi it only allowed me to go up to 1920x1080 (my monitor is 1920x1200).
My monitor does not have a displayport input, could I use a display port to vga/hdmi and still get all the goodies of displayport, or will there be a downside?
Would it even make a difference to use a display port rather than dvi to vga?

I was wondering if there was a way to get cable on my 22 inch widescreen pc monitor. It has hd inputs but no cable input. Are there any tv tuners that will offer decent quality. And is there a antenna that will attach to a monitor to recieve hd signals?

A:Cable on HD lcd monitor

Your cable company should be able to provide you with a Cable Box/Set Top Box as part of their service and you need that to watch cable TV on your monitor, but then it'll depend on what inputs you have on your monitor and what the STB supports. You can use Composite cables, a DVI cable, or an HDMI cable to conenct the STB to the monitor. Make and model of the LCD would be very useful here.
