I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello again.

I tried connecting my laptop to my television through HDMI, but the laptop dosent seem to be detecting the TV as an external monitor. The reason for this was because I wanted to watch a DVD, but I wanted to use a bigger screen.

I have tried using two different HDMI cables, one of them being a no-name brand one, and the other one being a somewhat expensive cable I picked up recently that is a well known brand, and both had the same result. I have also tried using both HDMI ports on the television.

I would try using VGA but I do not have any VGA cables on hand. (My laptop has both HDMI and VGA.)

The television model is a Magnavox 32ME303V/F7 A, and was manufactured in July 2014.

I have sucessfully connected a Dell laptop running Windows XP to a tv before, through VGA, without issues.
And a Thinkpad running Windows 7 SP1 (Home? Pro?), to a tv before, though VGA also, without issues.

But these are respectively 13 and 11 year old laptops nowadays.
And at the time I did this it was probably around 2017 or 2018 though, and the laptops in question were too old... Read more

A:Monitor Wont detect HDMI Cable (Works With VGA)

Are the VGA and HDMI connectors both on the motherboard? Asking because they are on my system and I have to go into the BIOS to specifically enable the HDMI connector. That is because there is also a DVI connector, which is enabled by default, and I have to disable that to enable the HDMI connector.

If the connectors are on a video card, you should look in Control Panel, the Display section, and see if you have to enable/disable connectors there.

I just connected the Win 10 laptop via the same HDMI cable but the Win 10 laptop cannot discover the TV. I have tried "Duplicate", "Extend", and "Second Screen Only", but none of them work. I see from various forums that others have had the same problem with Win 10, but don't see any workable solutions posted. Can anyone suggest a fix?

Hi cash172 and welcome, I looked at your post earlier, and forgot to come back, I see no one has responded yet.

Do you know how to get into the bios of your computer? Usually, when the computer is starting, it'll scroll something like "to enter setup, hit DEL key" or if you have a compaq, F 10 key, Gateway F 2 or something similar.

Once you are in bios, you'll see some reference to USB support...make sure it says enabled, save changes, and restart your computer.

Hello, so I have a monitor with HDMI cable.
Yesterday I connected my cable into my PC and changed the source to HDMI 2 and everything worked fine.
I was watching YouTube through my HDMI monitor. I turned off my PC and came to the next day which is today, the PC won't detect my 2nd monitor anymore. I can't even detect it through Display>Resolution Settings.
It doesn't show up at all, the monitor works fine and I tried to change the sources and etc.. but the PC can't recognize it. I've tried many restarts and changed bios settings to <multi monitor> same problem.

Can't even find the monitor in the device manager when I scan for hardware changes....

I have looked all over the internet trying to figure out what to do about this. I have two VGA monitors that I would like to hook up to my GPU (listed above) there is one VGA port which works fine with both monitors, the other port is a DVI-I dual link port. Both monitors work when plugged into the VGA port, but when I plug one into the DVI-I port (with an adapter) windows or AMD catalyst will not detect it. If I'm not mistaken DVI-I supports analog, so VGA should work with an adapter. I have updated all the drivers. Please help.

I have seen other similar threads but none with the port configuration that I have. Stormy13 has answered a lot of them explaining that one of the DVI ports will not support VGA, but I don't think that is my problem because I have DVI-I. Thank you in advance.

I was watching a film on my Computer fine for about 30 minutes on my dual monitor setup: 1x VGA monitor and 1x HDMI monitor/TV.
All of a sudden, with no sudden change in the room and with only the movie playing on the computer the HDMI screen displayed "no signal" and Windows automatically disabled the HDMI screen. when investigating in the screen resolution control panel, the HDMI screen was not detected.

After about half an hour of troubleshooting (Unplugging and changing cables and trying internal graphics (which did not work at all, but that was probably just bios setup)). After trying different cables and trying to "turn it off and on again" I tried to turn on my Xbox 360, to test the TV's HDMI ports, and while the xbox was turned on, I switched back to the PC to find 2 working displays as if nothing was wrong.

I was hoping that someone here would be able to shed some light on why this has happened?

When I got up this morning my internet wasn't working. After going through everything it turns out that the wireless USB dongle I use wasn't being detected properly. I uninstalled it and reinstalled the driver. It still didn't work. I tried it in another port, it still didn't work. I tested another dongle of the same model and that wouldn't work either. I installed a spare dongle of a different model and that wouldn't work either.

I also found that an expansion USB hub that I'd installed earlier also wasn't working (this device is connected to a port at the back). It seems as though any USB device I install comes up as 'Unknown device'. I even thought that, perhaps, the drivers for the USB ports themselves might be at fault, so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling them. Device manager says they're fine.

Any ideas?

Good pm/am everyone. I had a problem about my newly assembled PC of mine. Through the vast knowledge of the internet, I had finished assembling my PC, but it looks like it cannot detect VGA or HDMI for my monitor. It powers up though; the led lights are switching on and the fans are working. I dont even hear any beep sound just like any other computer should when it starts up. My specs are the following:

Motherboard: MSI Z170A GAMING M3
Power supply: Seasonic Gold 750watts
Ram: 2x4gb gskill ripjaws
CPU: Intel corei7 7700
Video card: Aorus GTX1080

I search and my power supply isnt lacking in power nor do I see any kind of problem. Please help..

Hi,

I have an Asrock ION 330 HT BD with a Sony Bravia 720p attached (HDMI to HDMI). When I start up my PC, the screen remains black. Only after I plug in a second monitor, both screens work just fine. When I pull the second monitor out, the Bravia also stops getting a signal. Seems a bit weird.. How can I get it to work with just the Bravia attached?

Thanks,
Gijs

A:HDMI to HDMI only working with second monitor attached

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?

Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?

Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.

Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?

Please help. I have Lenovo Thinkpad X61T. Everytime I docked my notebook I need to restart it before it detects the usb ports (I'm using an external monitor with keyboard and mouse attached on the docking station). I have updated bios but problem still persist. Please help. Thank you...

A:Unable to detect USB ports on the docking station

Your problem relates to Windows "Plug and Play". Specifically, it's called "hot docking". .

In order for hot docking to work as a Plug and Play event, several things must be in place and supported by both your hardware and software.

First off you mention a Thinkpad X61T. Is that a X61 Tablet???? Their site only lists X61, X61 Tablet and X61s.

What Windows operating system (I'll guess at XP Professional) and what Service Pack level?

And what is the version number of the "latest BIOS" you have installed.

Tell me if XP is running in ACPI mode
- click Start->Run, enter devmgmt.msc
- Look for Computer and double click it to expand it.
- Does it say "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC"? If not, exactly what does it say?

Long story short. My power supply shorted mid week while my computer was booting up. Snap, crackle and then a dead computer. I replaced the power supply after 3 days and crossed my fingers. Computer came up but was slow going though the USB configuration in post. Taking about 2 to 3 minutes to get though the post and then load Windows XP pro.

Eveything seems to work except all my USB ports do not pickup any thing plugged into them. I have 4 on the back of the MOB and 4 extra on the case in the front. I uninstalled the USB controller, shut down the computer and started it back up. Found alll the controllers and installed them again but after they all were found it showed 3 unknown device when I checked in device manager. I did not have any usb devices attached or plugged in at that time. I then decided to flash the bios with latest version which went fine. No luck with the usb. Updated my intel chipset to the latest from ASUS. Uninstalled and reinstalled the USB controller. USB configuration now zips by in the post, no unknown devices showing up in hardware manager but the usb ports still do not detect anything when I plug into them. I have devices that need the USB ports.....printer, cd rom, zip drive, several thumb drives. ?????? Do not know what to try next except to reformat a HD, install windows and start over. Did not want to spend several days doing that if I do not need to. Anyone have any suggestion? (my profile has my computer specs)

A:Replaced power supply now USB ports/hub will not detect

When the power supply blew it might have damaged the USB controllers. If you can't get to work and if you have spare PCI or PCI-E x1 slots, you can get a expansion card with USB ports.

Hi everyone. I've Google searched everything I can on this, and I can't seemto find anything pertaining to my situation. From everything I have read, it should be as easy as "plug in HDMI cable, select output on TV, done." Well, it isn't that simple...

I have plugged the HDMI cable into my PC and routed it to my TV (Sony 32 inch 1080p LCD Bravia.) On the nVidia control panel, I go to Set Up Multiple Displays. Not a thing I do here gets my computer to see the TV, at all. I try to force detection, and nothing.

It works okay if I simply take the VGA connector from my monitor and put it into the TV. That works fine. I want to do this over HDMI so I can duplicate the displays, so that I don't need to constantly change the cable back and forth (so I can surf the net on my monitor, but when I want to play a game, I can do that on my TV.)

I'm at the end of my rope with this. Can someone figure this thing out?

A:PC to TV through HDMI cable, PC refuses to detect TV

You need to have the TV on set to HDMI

While the tv is set use the pc to detect the settings

It has be to on and on the HDMI channel for it to work

After the card has seen the tv and reconizes it a profile will be created

Also make sure it is in the first Hdmi not the second

After you have established a connection as long you dont put the system into sleep mode it will continue to show

The connection can be broken by a restart but..... this will make the bravia the main LCD because the card will reconize a bigger resolution

Hope this helps you
