Started getting this error after I recently downgraded my internet speed. Not sure if that had anything to do with it but that's when I started getting the error msg. I followed the instructions here -

Windows Update error 80070422, 80244019, or 8DDD0018

- but it did not work. The final step - "13. In the Services window, double-click Software Licensing." - There was no "Software Licensing" service listed.

No viruses.

Any help much appreciated.

Please temporarily disable your antivirus. This error indicates that there is a problem reaching the update server, this could be due to the antivirus blocking it.

Hi guys

I'd be grateful for some help please.

I have this Windows Update Error 80244019 since 28th July (the day before Win10 was released!):

The web seems to be lit up by hundreds of other people experiencing the same error and I've spent the last few hours reading all the posts without solution, see here: https://www.google.com/search?q=8024...w=1824&bih=927

It seems that the problem can be solved by upgrading to Win10 but I'm not ready to do that yet.

I can also get Windows Update to run successfully if I uncheck the option to 'Give me updates for other Microsoft products...'but that doesn't help me update Microsoft Office 2013, etc.

Quick summary of what I've tried without success is:

System Restore
Check BITS, Software Protection, and Windows Update services all set to defaults and started
Scan for infection using Kaspersky, MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware
Run the Windows Update diagnostics tool from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...e-issues/en-us
And worked through the cmd prompt procedure here to reset Windows Update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/971058

The diagnostics tool always finds and fixes these errors but it doesn't resolve the update error code:

It should be noted that I have another computer running Win7x64 Home & Office 2010 and there isn't a similar problem.

A:Windows Update Error 80244019

OK, panic over, after two weeks, I've fixed it.

I wish I could tell all the other users who're struggling how I did it, but I'm not exactly sure.

I basically:

Restored and installed the optional updates that I'd hidden because I didn't think I needed them (including the Win10 preparation updates)
Restarted in safe mode and ran the Windows Update diagnostics tool in safe mode
Restarted again in safe mode and ran the Tweaking.com repairs tool to Repair Windows Update in safe mode

Hey presto, 22 new updates found, errors gone!

I normally set my update settings to check automatic and notify me if any updates. A few weeks had passed and I suddenly realized I hadn't had any updates, so I went in and checked manually. When I click check for updates the status bar moves for about 5-25
seconds and then displays an error. There was a problem checking for updates - Errors Found - Code 80244019. When I did a search for this error code, all of the answers were referring to Vista. I am running Windows 8.1, and this computer has never had Vista
installed. If anyone has any answers I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi everyone,
I have been having trouble using windows update on my computer. Basically, everytime I try to update I recieve error code 80244019 that states that there was a problem checking for updates and windows could not search for a new update. I googled the error code and on the windows website it said that the most common case is that a virus has turned off my windows update. I ran both my anti-virus program (Trend Micro) and spybot search and destroy but I still have this error. Please help.

Hi, I'm using Windows 8 (not 8.1) on an Acer Aspire V3-571 laptop. I get my internet via the phone line with a TP-Link ADSL modem and wifi-router. I use wifi all the time. For a year and a half since I bought this laptop everything has been fine. I keep my computer clean with Windows Defender, Spybot and Malwarebytes Free. I update them almost every day and run full scans once a week. I haven't had a virus for ages.

But now over the last week or so I get Error Code 80244019 if I try to do Windows Update. I've tried switching off the wifi and using a LAN cable from the router to the laptop, but it's just the same.

But here's the odd thing. I've tried switching off the modem entirely, and, instead, using a plug-in USB modem with a mobile phone SIM card inside charged up with an internet account, and Windows Update works! No problem.

So, Windows Update doesn't like my ADSL modem suddenly after one and a half years of being OK, but, it does like my plug-in USB mobile phone system modem!

I've tried resetting the ADSL modem back to its original factory settings and starting again, but it's still no good. I get the same error code.

Can anyone help?

A:Windows Update Error Code 80244019

The error code means that you can't get to the server. Make sure McAfee or your Firewall isn't blocking you. Windows Defender will sometimes block updates too ... not sure why http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=enI really wouldn't worry about these: .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 2 and .NET Framework Family Update, but the above link has them. Here's another link for Office:http://www.microsoft.com/DownLoads/details...;displaylang=enIf you have Office 2007 installed, have you downloaded SP1 for it?

Everytime I try to update I get this code, I looked on these forums and found a way to fix it by going to Regedit and navigating to:

Then selecting dword value:

Then reboot.

However I have two problems:

1. In Regedit when I am following those links after Windows I cannot see a WindowsUpdate link!

2. Less importantly what does he mean by reboot, is he just saying restart?

I've registered for Win 10, so I check each day to see if any new updates have arrived.

Today a few times I saw error 80244019 and an update failure.

When you look up the error code you find:

Windows Update error 80070422, 80244019, or 8DDD0018

where it claims:

"If you receive one of these errors while downloading updates, the most common cause is a computer virus that has turned off Windows Update, or another service on your computer that is needed by Windows Update."
which is kind of scary.

However, trying a little later, I see things work and there's nothing new.

I suppose the Windows servers are getting jammed and thrashed around quite thoroughly.

Funny how 'Get Windows 10' may cause MS to have a denial-of-service attack of their own making.

A:Recent Windows Update Error Code 80244019 - probably GWX

I have exactly the same problem on my Windows 8.1 Pro x64 and the MS solution provided by MS doesn't work . I've also found some other solution (it actually resets Windows Update) together with automated FixIt file which claims to have corrected the error, but in fact it doesn't.

I've realized that the error appears only when updates for both Windows and other MS programs are enabled. If looking for Windows updates only (to be configured in WU), the error is magically gone and updates are correctly found and installed.

However I do believe this has something to do with Win10 updates, as I have three computers at home and another two propose me to update to Win10 from the Windows Update window, while the one affected (actually my main one ) still shows only the Win10 icon in the tray and the option to update to Win10 is gone from the Windows Update window (for others it's offered as the first-choice update and I need to select "other updates" to see available updates).

I have Windows provided by Dell installed on this machine so maybe it looks for dedicated Win10 update for Dell computers? Has anyone found a solution to this?

So this morning I opened my Windows Update tab to check that it had checked for Updates that morning. It hadn't. Okay. Check for updates. Get an error. Error Code 80244019. Okay restart Nothing. Nothing. Mess with 'Give me updates for Microsoft products' setting. Still nothing. Mess with 'give me recommended updates the same way as important updates'. Nothing. Run the troubleshooter. Fixed it. Once.

Then I noticed hmm 'its retaining my hidden updates, better check'. Run an update check. Get the error code again. Oh for crying out loud. Run Troubleshooter on Admin. Nothing. Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and SFC /Scannow. No corruption in either. Restart BITS. Nothing. Run troubleshooter again. Nothing. Mess with the settings again. Nothing. Run the Automatic Diagnostic thing for BITS and Windows Update from the site. Nothing. Run troubleshooter more times. Nothing. Running a Malware Bytes Anti-Malware scan. Nothing so far.

What the actual hell is going on now?
Granted I haven't rebooted my computer but what the?

For the record normally my 'Give Me Updates for Microsoft Products' setting is unchecked, my 'Give Me Recommended Updates the same way I get Important Updates' setting is checked. Set to automatically check and download updates. I don't wanna update to Windows 10 so, I've been hiding the Telemetry update and the GWX update.

EDIT: It just randomly fixed itself whilst I was checking with a Custom Scan of my whole system with Malware Bytes. Got it to... Read more

Hi every1. Im new to this forum site & stumbled upon it after a lot of futile online research. Anyway, here goes-I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop, Windows Vista home premium-SP1, 32-bit. A week ago my problems began. My Windows Update (as well as Windows Defender) failed to update-giving error Code-80244019. Also I was unable to access any of Microsoft or Anti-Virus web-sites to look for a solution. The problem persisted despite a number of adjustments & scans (Norton 360 v2.0, PC Tools Spyware Doctor, Windows defender, Windows Malicious software Removal Tool- None were able to detect anything) & a alot of online research. At about the same time these horrible Vimax ads started appearing on every page I visited & my Laptop became considerably slower & Firefox became prone to crashing a lot. So after more online research I installed Malwarebytes-Anti Malware. I ran a Full-Scan & it showed me a number of Infections by Trojan DNS Changer & I 'Fixed' the infections using Malwarebytes- It said the prob is fixed, but they kept coming back (I also ran the scan in SAFE MODE but I didnt disable System Restore in any instance) & the problem remained. I also scanned my portable flash drives, but there was no infection there. I havent yet scanned my external HDD, so I dont know whether thats infected. Finally, frustrated , I came upon this site & I am posting my grievances. I am extremely distressed by this, as this is the first time I have failed to... Read more

I haven't been able to update windows for about a month now. When I attempt to update, the CPU runs high but nothing else is happening ... ie hard disks at zero. Eventually I have to go into Task Manager to stop Windows Update. Then I'll get an Error Code 80244019. I've tried using the MS Fix It tool. It says it's fixed the issue. But there's no change when I try to update again. Windows Defender is running fine. I've scanned the machine, there's not bugs. It's operating normally otherwise. I've tried another fix suggested on Youtube, going into PC settings and unchecking the bottom box.

It didn't work. I don't have a system restore available that pre-exists the issue. No idea what else to try.
Need advice please.

I am running as an administrator on a Windows 7 machine which I have only had for about 3 months now. Despite it being a company laptop and running McAfee, I installed both Avast and MBAM. Recently, it started taking forever to boot.

Last night I tried running Windows Update from my home network, but I received a 80244019 error. I booted to safe mode and ran MBAM, Avast, as well as a Microsoft Safety Scanner. Nothing found.

This morning, in work, I noticed McAfee had picked up ~20 .tmp files in my Avast directory which I deleted from quarantine. I tried running Windows Update again, and this time it worked - nothing needed to be installed.

So the only thing that had changed was my deleting these temporary files (which I don't think did anything) and being on a company network which may have been the cause (DNS?).

I want to ensure I don't have a virus, however, since the 80244019 error states the *probable* cause is a virus.

I've downloaded and run ComboFix and the log is attached.

Is there anything else I should do here?

Since November Windows Update fails with error messages and defender does not start anymore. I made several virus scans (complete) with multiple antivirus programs but nothing showed up.Since it took my days to install various software, I do not want to re-install W7. I also have no good backup that I could restore. I am really surprised that there is not even a single entry regarding the error code in the Microsoft Knowledge base or elsewhere.I really would appreciate help.

Toshiba HDD installed. Ran two different HDD diagnostics test on it and it passed.

No conflicts in device manager.

Now, Windows Update window showing 80070002 error. Based upon instructions, ran System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) but that appears to have not made any resolution. Ran it twice to ensure it ran successfully.

Then, ran the Windows Update Diagnostic.diagcab from go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=231149 and it shows Windows Update error 0x8007370B(2014-09-18-T-06_58_30P) as NOT FIXED. All other items in list shows as FIXED.

SFC /scannow will not run ... displaying the message "windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation". I tried the same in a elevated prompt in normal windows and in safe mode with the same result. No luck running Surface Scan.

Ran chkdsk /r twice also.

Screen captures of both errors and CBS log file attached. Any help is greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I will begin running some antimalware scans just in case.

Thanks for any assistance.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

A couple of the troubleshooting steps I've done is to run the microsoft windows update troubleshooter, sfc /scannow, and ran the tweaking.com - windows update repair tool.

Earlier today, I ran Windows Update and told it to install 15 important updates. It said it was downloading them, but stalled for 30 minutes at 0% done.

At that point, I concluded that something was wrong with Windows Update. In an attempt to fix it, I downloaded and ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter (WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab). It reported one problem found: "Windows Update error 0x80070057(2016-07-15-T-12_59_34P)

I'm running Windows 7 Pro on my Dell laptop. This laptop has been in storage and hasn't been turned on in a year. Originally, all I wanted to do was use iTunes. The problem:
It made me update it in order to use it, but I got an error.
I un-installed it and tried downloading a fresh copy and I get the following error:
After some Googling, I read that not having the latest Windows .NET framework might be the problem. Sounded reasonable so I fired up Windows Update but that gave me an error and wouldn't start checking for updates.
I managed to get it to check for updates, but now when it starts the process, I get the following:
I Googled the error code "8007007E" and tried a few things to try and fix it.
I downloaded the windowsupdatediagnostic.diagcab, found on Microsoft's site, here:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7
I tried resetting the Windows Update reset tool, using "MicrosoftFixit50202", found here:http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9665683
I download the system readiness tool, found here:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3132
I tried a clean boot.
I tried renaming the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder.
None of this worked.
I ran the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) and the results said I had bad files, but I don't know how to fix them. It generated a CBS log, which is too large for me to post (10MB) , so I've uploaded to dropbox,... Read more

Hey all,

So I am currently reinstalling Windows on my dad's old laptop after the hard drive decided up die on us, and I stumbled on a problem that's a bit too hard for me to fix.

Namely, I am completely unable to install any Windows Update. Not even MSE will install.

I tried running SURT, but got error code 0x8000247
I also tried running SFC /SCANNOW, it ran the verification fase until 98% and then stated that there where unfixable problems.

The displayed error codes are:
In WU: "8024A000"
In SURT: "0x8000247"
Whilst installing MSE: "0x80070643".

Attached you will find CBS.log and MSINFO with my system specs.
Cheers and many thanks in advance,

CBS.log MSINFO32.nfo

That's very reminiscent of similar errors in Win7 - and I wouldn't be surprised to see it being non-genuine.
Please post an MGADiag report BEFORE doing the below potential fixes.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

If nothing has changed, try this...

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

If neither of them work, we'll re-evaluate.

I recieve error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run. It doesn't get past the stage of checking for updates.

I've tried several fixes including:
- Waiting 15 minutes and running Windows Update again.
- Letting Windows Update run on its own schedule.
- SFC /Scannow
- Renaming the Catroot2 Folder.
- Running 3 different Fixit tools.
- Clean windows install.

After each and every one of those fixes I've tried windows update and I still get error C80003FA.

SFC Scannow has previously said no errors, but the last run through it said there were unfixable errors. I've got the log, though for brevity's sake I will keep it until someone asks for it.

Any ideas?

I uploaded the CBS.zip

Hope you can help me, thanks.

I didn't see any posts about this, so I hope I am not double posting.

After removing a drive load of viruses, I am still not able to update Windows Vista to Service Pack 1. I have even tried to create a new admin user account in hopes that this would work, but no go. I tried running sfc.exe / scannow from the CMD and it did report that it was unable to repair wextract.exe. Also, the file reportingevents.txt located in %system root%\windows\softwaredistribution\reportingevents.txt lists "Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x80070490".
Although, I think Windows Defender can update. I need to take a break.
