Yahoo Messenger/Logitech Webcam Problem (was told could be a Vista problem)

Q: Yahoo Messenger/Logitech Webcam Problem (was told could be a Vista problem)

Hopefully someone here has ran into this problem before and can help me, because Google, Yahoo, and Logitech have all been worthless.

Here are my desktop computer specs:

DC 3.0gHz
WRT54G Linksys Wireless router
Cox internet
Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 Cable Modem
Windows Firewall turned completely off
Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000

My laptop computer specs:

DC 2.0gHz
WRT54G Linksys Wireless router
Cox internet
Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 Cable Modem
Windows Firewall turned completely off
Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000

Her laptop computer specs:

DC 1.8gHz
Windows Firewall turned completely off
Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000

Wireless router settings:

Yahoo application port forwarded for ports 5000-5200

Yahoo Messenger settings:

Camera source selected to QuickCamPro9000
"Allow everyone to view my webcam" selected

The situation:

My fiance and I both got the same webcam to use because we live about 2k miles (we are both Army) apart for the time being.

The first time I used the webcam I was at a hotel in Texas on their wireless internet and on my laptop connecting to her laptop. It worked IMMEDIATELY. I installed the Logitech software from the CD, it updated from the internet, plugged it in, BAM worked like a charm over Yahoo.

I got back from my business trip and at home my laptop is connected to the internet through my wireless router (not sure if that matters). Started up Yahoo and plugged in the webcam and BAM...nothing (well it works on my end in the software but not on hers). It says "waiting for permission" on her end and gives her advertisements for herpes medication and stuff instead of showing my sexy mug. Anyhow, I Google "Yahoo Messenger Waiting for Permission" and there are about 1000 relevant results with not a single worthwhile answer (most of the results are Yahoo Answers with either worthless suggestions or none at all).

I tried the usual crap, like reinstalling the Logitech software and Yahoo software (even though neither one of us made any changes to our computers in that time frame) and it still didn't work.

So I did a little more research and saw that for a different problem completely someone opened up ports 5000 - 5200 on their wireless router. So I did. And I also turned off Windows Firewall and had her do the same. Still no dice.

So now I am pissed of course, but I plug the webcam into my desktop computer and install everything the same way I did initially on my laptop, and she still gets the "waiting for permission" on her end. So wanting to punch something but nothing being around I instead disconnected my wireless router completely and hooked my cable modem directly into my desktop computer, restarted and all that crap, and still the same problem.

I am at a complete loss as to *** is going on. I have to listen to soft rock or love songs at the moment because if I listen to hard rock or something I'm going to use either my M4 carbine or Springfield XD9 pistol to practice target shooting with my webcam and computers.

Preferred Solution: Yahoo Messenger/Logitech Webcam Problem (was told could be a Vista problem)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Matth3w

Welcome to TSF

I have seen the rest of your requests for help in different forums and not one person has asked you, Have you got Norton? Has your partner got Norton?

If so then you/your partner need to give Norton permission to allow the yahoo web cam facility.

The error message is actually being transmitted from your side telling the other computer that your blocking it because you haven't yet accepted it as a safe device/service

1. You can change these settings in through Windows Firewall

Control Panel\Security\windows Firewall

2. Select Change Settings and select the Exceptions tab.

3. Look down the list to find Yahoo Messenger or relating programs and check the box to the left of it

4. If you cannot find Yahoo Messenger or relating programs select Add Program and search through the Program File to add it.

5. Once checked select Apply and Ok

6. Reboot and try the webcam, you should now be able to use it without any errors. Let me know if its a go

I have recently installed a Logitech ClickSmart 310 webcam on my computer and I can not get Yahoo Messenger to use it. Everytime I tried to Start Webcam YM crashes on me. It works fine through AIM and MSN Messenger and there is no other problems with it or the software it came with. I have looked all throughout the Yahoo Help Center for any possible help and of course there is nothing there and I can't seem to find where you could email them with this problem. Logitech says it is a problem with Yahoo Messenger and to contact Yahoo. I have uninstalled YM and deleted my Yahoo folder in my Programs folder and even tried Web Messenger and get the same problem, except it is Explorer crashing and not just Yahoo. I have tried the preferences in yahoo messenger as well, but there is nothing there. Is there anyone that has an idea of what could be causing this.

I am using Windows XP Professional with a Logitech Pro 3000 Webcam. My friend has Windows 98 witha LG Webcam. We are both using current version of Yahoo Messenger.
When trying to establish a webcam contact with each other he has 2 images - one is what he is sending and one is what I am sending. Unfortunately I only have an image of what I am sending and can't receive his sent images.
Subsequently I received a message saying I needed updated software. I don't understand why or what this is referring to as I have updated the camera software and he is able to recieve my images.
Can anyone offer any ideas or answers?

A:Yahoo Messenger and Webcam problem

I had similar problems with logitech webcam and Home XP, using Netmeeting. Have you tried both "you call your friend" as "well as your friend call you"? I'm sure you have but my cam only opens when "I call", as I can not receive webcam due to firewall. I'm sure some of the senior members will help you on this.....just wait.

This is my first time joining the forum. I could not find a subforum for IM so I'm posting my question here. If i'm in the wrong place please excuse me and redirect me to the right place.

I'm desperately seeking answers and hoping some people here could help me. I'm using Yahoo Messenger (version 7.0) on a windows XP. I have a Creative Notebook Webcam plugged in and use it daily for communicating with my family. For some reason, every time I log onto Y!Messenger and activate my webcam -- and simultaneously i'm watching the webcam from the person on the other end --their webcam image would show my image after one or two minutes. I'm seeing doubles! I have to keep exiting and re-requesting to view their webcam and this is becoming a frustrating experience. Please help!!!

If it helps to know, the person on the other end uses a D-link wireless router, and mine is using also a D-link wireless router but it branches from one of those Vonage Linksys adaptor.

Hey guys!
I hope you all are having a great day..i recently reformated my pc(win 7 x64) and windows automatically installed drivers for my Logitech HD webcam C270..
Those are non functional so i tried to install the drivers from the original cd(tried the website ones too) but they all failed to instal because of the windows installed drivers already..
The end result is that my webcam does not function at all..
When i i enter device manager and uninstall the driver for the webcam, right after i hit scan for hardware changes, windows automatically adds the MS drivers for it again(even if i go offline)..

I also tried to update drivers and "locate drivers on pc location" and pointed to the installation CD, but that turned a message "latest drivers are already installed"..
I have no idea what to do now and i need the cam for skyping with my wife while she is away on buissiness.
Thanks in advance!

A:logitech webcam instalation problem

First off congratulations on choosing an awesome webcam! /coughcoughbiasedcough

Now to the problem; technically it's fine to leave the webcam working on generic drivers, it will still function exactly as it's supposed to. If you want the official Logitech ones though, along with the ability to use the software it comes with (allowing various special effects) then you need to get rid of those generic drivers.

In your Start menu, right click on Computer and hit up Manage. This will bring up the Computer Management window which you may or may not be familiar with. In the left hand pane toward the bottom you'll see Device manager, go ahead 'n' click it.
The middle pane will now change to show all your currently installed and plugged in hardware, so make sure the webcam is plugged in for this step.

In Imaging Devices you'll find Logitech HD Webcam 270, right click and then click Uninstall.
Once it's finished up (should only take a few seconds), set about installing the Logitech drivers. Voila!

I have just purchased this webcam and it seemed to install without a hitch. I can view it using the software that logitech provided. However, if I try to use this with Yahoo Messanger my computer completely locks up forcing a reboot.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if this cam will work at all with Yahoo since it locks up durring Yahoo's compatibility test as well. At first I wasn't sure if the issue was due to my firewall (Norton), so I disabled it completely while trying to use the cam.........same problem happens. I was also wondering if the issue could be due to the Router being used to share my internet connection with another computer in my house. If so, I'm unsure as to what (if any) and how to make the necessary changes in its configuration.

Has anyone run into this problem? Does anyone have suggestions as to how to get this thing running on Yahoo properly?

Thanks for reading this, and for any suggestions you may have. Your comments are appreciated.

Purchased a Logitech Quickcam Messenger 2 Pack. One camera for myself and one for my daughter.

Problem: The video works fine but when we try to use the audio we get the following results:

In Wndows Messenger, I can hear my daughter but she can't hear me. In Microsoft Messenger, neither of us can hear the other.

We have both tested our built in mikes which are on top of the quickcam and when we record, as expected, the sound comes out of our speakers.

Called Logitech a couple of times and at their suggestion we disabled the Qos Packet Scheduler but this did not solve the problem.

Both of us have fairly new computers running at 2.4Ghz. My sound card is Sound Blaster Live. We both have Windows XP Home Edition.

I have a cable modem but my daughter has a dial up connection at about 26.4k.

Lastly, my Sounds & Audio Devices Properties are as follows:

Sound Playback Default Device: Creative SB Live Series-volume high

Sound Recording Default Device: Camera-volume is high

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi, first off major kudos to those who spent time doing the Preparation Guide - if only all manuals were like this!

I have a Windows Vista Home Premium 32 O/S which after doing a Windows update decided I could no longer start and I ended up having to reformat my C: drive and use a recovery partition to reinstall Windows (luckily I had partitioned my Hard drive and kept docs/photos/mp3's etc elsewhere.

Now it is entirely possible that it was not the Windows update (please don't ask me which one as I didn't note the K number but is was only an optional one) and that the O/S was infected elsewhere and it's just co-incidence that the reboot activitated it.

However having had to reformat C: and re-install Vista I would have thought that this would wipe out any infection ( or do Root infections remain? A little knowlkedge is a dangerous thing and I might be talking complete rubbish!)

So I reinstalled Vista, did the updates, got rid of the Norton package which was on a limited thingy anyway and installed ZoneAlarm and AVG and started reinstalling my software.

On a side issue I keep getting lots of Zone Alarm requests for progs to access the Net/Trusted Zone etc. which may be perfectly normal but loads and loads!

Anyway after having instaled Windows Live Messenger and chatting to a friend they said I think you have a virus.
Why? Because I just gota message from you asking me to click on a link to see some party pictures.

Hi. I have a computer that has a video capture card and I am also using a USB webcam. the webcam works fine on it's own and in other programs but is not recognized by Yahoo messenger. Also the webcam configuration areas in Yahoo are greyed out. I think the problem is related to the fact that I have the video capture card and the webcam. The video capture card by default seems to be the device that yahoo is recognizing and of course is determining that it is not compatible. I actually had this same issue a few months ago when the computer was new. I did some google searches and found a discussion that explained this conflict AND there was a link to a utility that I downloaded that permitted me to switch between default video capture devices. The problem has now returned. Apparently I have since deleted that utility and cannot now find any reference to it on any of my google searches. If anyone here is familar with this problem and has a solution...or the name of the utility that allows me to switch between these video devices i would appreciate your assistance.

I just recently started having this problem with yahoo and my webcam. It does not happen when my webcam is hooked up to other multi-media programs.

My cam says it connecting (after which it may or may not then say 'waiting to reconnect') and then it fails and saying 'network error while connecting to server'. I also cant view anyone's cam either as the same thing happens - even when that person has NO cam.

I've unloaded a reload yahoo several times; and removed norton firewall completely to no avail. I tried using different yahoo user id's. I have my yahoo CONNECTION option set to 'no network detection' . I even modified the registry by adding a Webcam folder in HKEY_CURRENT_USER (see this link http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mesg/webcams/webcams-30.html)

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks.

Which version of Windows are you running? Are you running Messenger 5.5?

If you have a look at this:

it mentions a proxy. Go to Control Panel | Internet Options.

Connections tab, Settings. Is Use a Proxy ticked? If so, untick. OK.

Advanced tab, under HTTP 1.1 Settings, is the first box Use HTTP 1.1 ticked? If the second one is, untick and just make sure the first one is ticked. Apply and OK.

Just recently upgraded my pc that was running on win 98 to a new windows XP media center edition (both gateways) and have been unable to get the webcam feature to perform. I also cannot turn my own webcam on via messenger , the icon behaves as if my camera is not plugged in or recognised. I have to wait for someone to request to view my cam , then it works but without my own preview screen.

I have re-installed the old version of messenger for now but would very much like a fix for my webcam problem so I can enjoy the benefits of the latest updates.

OS : Windows XP SP3
Webcam : Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000
Messenger version : Windows live messenger 2009 (latest build)

Thanks in advance.

The other night my webcam worked fine using Live Messenger. Last night and today it's not working right. Windows Live Messenger detects it but the image won't show. At this very moment it's doing something different, I can see myself but my friend can't see me. It didn't do that last night or earlier, it just showed an image of a webcam with a red X.

Any clue how to fix this, and is it common?

Hi everyone,

recently my Yahoo messenger stopped displaying my webcam - it says it's working but there is only black screen. Now the weird thing is that this happens on both my desktop and laptop and with both Creative and Genius webcams. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
