M91S - Test machine from Lenovo - Default boot BIOS

Q: M91S - Test machine from Lenovo - Default boot BIOS

Hi All, So we've received a few test models from Lenovo, however, out of the 3 machines this one particular model M91s keeps booting into the bios by default. I've never seen anything like this, the machine has been reimaged, I've reset factory defaults in the bios, changed the primary/automatic/error boot order to ensure hard drive is first etc. The only way I can actually boot into the OS is by spamming F12 and selecting the HDD to boot from. Has anyone seen behaviour like this and how we can turn off boot into bios by default? This one has been listed as problematic for us currently so we're not likely to order any unless we can thoroughly revise a setup solution Thanks, kind regards

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The machine is functioning fine in OSX AND in Windows 7, BUT I cannot set the default boot system to Windows.

Neither Windows (loaded using "Option" F8 key) nor OSX will let me reset the default system to Windows.

When I try using System Preferences in OSX, I get the screen with two systems shown, "Mac OSX 10.7.2" and "Untitled Windows."
When I highlight the Windows, and click restart, I get a popup window that says "You can't change the startup disk... The Bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk."

I need the machine to boot into windows by default.

I am a novice, so details will be needed.

Help appreciated!

Type msconfig into start/search and hit Enter. Go to the Boot tab. There you can change it. If that does not work, let us know. There are other ways too.

Hey folks,

New user here. Just updated my laptop, a Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon, to 1.26/1.19 bioses, from the Lenovo website. After the BIOS updated, my PC rebooted and immediately BSODed with 0x0000009C (0x0000000000000006, 0xFFFFF880009EEB30, 0x00000000FE000000, 0x0000000000801136).

I am unable to do anything- system repair, safe mode, etc. I also do not have a CD drive on this machine so no OEM repair either! I am typing this from my phone.. Also got a new job where I need this baby and majorly worried now. If anyone can please help, I would be greatly appreciative.
Thanks in advance.

Best I can tell the documentation HP publishing specifying the method required to disable Secure Boot on an Envy 700-074 was written by someone(s) who had no experience in implementing the methods they list.  IT DOES NOT WORK!  The ONLY way this machine will boot to the harddrive or to a bootable CD/DVD is if SECURE BOOT IS ENABLED. I have spent literally days trying to get it to work.  Formatted harddrive as MBR not uefi, gone through the truly bizarre methods required to get the computer register in bios that I wanted the DVD drive as the first option, F10 and Escaped innumerable times.  Bottom line, whoever designed and implemented the bios on the Envy 700-074 MUST be kept away from future involvement on bios implementation!

I was working on a customer's laptop, a Compaq CQ60, that refused to boot into windows and System Recovery disabled all recovery options except for Command Prompt.

On a hunch, after pressing Escape during BIOS boot, I selected HDD Test. The test ran and failed with "Replace Hard Drive." OK.. the laptop sat there for a few minutes and never did anything else, so I tried to get out of that screen. Nothing responded, so I just held the Power button to turn the computer off.

When I pressed Power again to turn the computer back on, the Power and Wireless LEDs comes on, the CD drive is accessed and then the HDD LED lights up for a second and goes out. The screen never comes up nor do the backlights.

I have tried hooking up an external monitor, but that never shows anything either.

I have tried taking the memory out, cleaning the contacts, putting them back in, swapping the modules around, booting with one or the other.... No effect.

I pulled the battery and the CMOS battery, unplugged AC and let it sit for a good half hour. I held the Power button for thirty seconds. Plugged the CMOS battery back in then the AC. Turned it on and still no go.

I cannot figure out WHAT could have happened!? Any other ideas? Thanks...

Hi :-) I have just upgrade my Lenovo T550 with a 128GB M.2 drive. I am trying to use the new M.2 SSD as default boot, but I can't set it up in the BIOS, there is no option to do that, only can select if enable or not the F12 option on boot. After a clean install of Windows 10 on the M.2 drive, the laptop allways boot using the 500GB SATA HDD, only when using F12 on startup screen I can select to boot from the SSD drive and then it runs OK. Is there any option or utility to select or force the boot drive? Thanks in advance.

Hello to all
First off, Windows 7 is very cool; I might use it more than vista now that I got internet for it, but that will have to wait for a month or two. My first question is: when I boot up my comp, and I have to pick either vista or W7 (I have W7 on another partition), I usually leave the room while my comp is booting, so after 30 seconds the BIOS picks Windows 7 as the default OS because its first. I would really like to boot up my pc while doing something else, and I would love for the BIOS to pick Vista after 30 seconds instead of W7 because I use Vista for games and such. Is there some way of doing that or do I have to sit around throughout the start up and manually pick Vista?

My second question seems a little picky or over the edge, but when I boot up my comp and have to pick an OS, it prints "Windows 7" while underneath it it prints out "Microsoft Windows Vista". Is there some way to add 'Microsoft' in front of Windows 7 when Im picking in the BIOS? It doesn't look as good without the Microsoft.

Thanks

sorry, just found tutorial on how to change default OS, can anyone answer second question?

Hello, some of our users are asking about setting the Numlock as default on startup. - I looked up the settings in BIOS but couldnīt find any "Default Numlock" Settings there as it usually should be. Then I found, I am not the only one with this problem and found also many suggestions about changes to some registry settings in windows which could help to activate the numlock there. Apart from the fact that such workarounds are considered only a "last resort" solution, it really isnt a solution in our situation, as all users have HDD Password set up in BIOS and need the Numlock already there. Why there is no such setting in BIOS?

Hi All, I have added new SSD into my laptop and also migrated OS from current HDD to this SSD. I have verified and tested that from F9 I am able to cleanly boot into this new SSD disk with amazing speed and no issues. Now I wanted to set this SSD as default in boot options where currently it is showing both HDD and SSd. But this OS Boot Manager sub menu does not allow me to change the sequence. It is showing both and by default it is booting to HDD OS, unless I manually interrupt using Esc and F9. As of now both HDD and SSD are available in my laptop with OS. Could anyone please suggest how can I make this SSD as default boot? ThanksVamshi

I bought a Windows 8 laptop, ASUS Q500A, and reformatted it with Windows 7.
I went into the BIOS and used "Restore Defaults" and now all Boot Option Priorities are deleted.

Each time I boot the laptop, it automatically goes to BIOS (or UEFI).

I tried inserting the Windows 7 disc so I can access Startup Repair or Command Prompt but it freezes before it could get anywhere even when I tried it with an external CD/DVD drive.

I cannot get the laptop to boot to the hard drive or CD drive at all,
please tell me how I can reset the boot option priorities so it will be boot to the hard drive again.

Thank you.

I waited for about 10 minutes and still nothing happened. I decided to hold the power button and had it shut off. After multiple power ons, still no POST. I read the HMM and the section about BIOS boot block recovery. It said I needed to burn an iso file to a CD and also move the CMOS jumper to pins 2 & 3. Since I dont have a cd, I put the bios flash package on a usb drive instead, plugged it into pc, and also moved CMOS jumper to 2 & 3. Computer turns on and there are two beeps. No display. Does this mean I will have to get a CD?

I'm not an owner of your model, but according to the B550's User Guide you need to total shut down the computer.  When powering back up, start tapping the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup.

Hi everybody, I saw many of problems like mine there, but I can't still do anything after several attempts to solve that.  It started two weeks ago.. I did cleaned my hdd, then to keep my device lil a bit update I have updated few drivers. First day, it was able to boot up after 10-15 attempts. (Holding down the power button, disc. battery, ac, reconnect and power button again). Since that time I was unable to get to the BIOS, set Boot order, and I couldn't see even the splash screen. Several days it did the same and the attempts grew up.  Last time it was able to launch, its about 4 days ago, I was watching, film then I felt asleep. When I woke up in the morning, the screen wasn't black but still slighty light(not off, fans were working, cooler was fine). Since that moment I couldn't boot it anymore. I tried reseting CMOS battery, tried to flash bios by using flash disk and Fn+R (laptop did different thing but after 15secs it has turned off).. I think it is frozen BIOS but I haven't clue what to do when I can't simply set the boot order.  Maybe I am wrong and the problem is only in the motherboard. Novo button works but everything I choose there, it ending by black screen again.  Thanks for help, maybe for any solutions how to fix this. I am prepared to buy another motherboard, but if I would be able to repair it on my own, I would happy. Thanks,Jakub.

Hi there, Yuvaraj ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Power down the machine, remove the AC adapter and battery.
Hold the power button for 30secs and reconnect the AC adapter only then turn the computer ON.

If the machine still doesn't power up normally and boot into Windows then it's likely that something went wrong (could be a bad BIOS flash or an internal component might have gone defective during or after the BIOS update).
Also, check the cable to the SSD and the system board.

Last resort would be, issue with motherboard. I would recommend you to contact Lenovo service center and report your findings. For more details, Schedule a Call-back for faster support.

Greetings, I've been a happy owner of the following notebook. Yesterday after using Lenovo Vantage I got info that a new BIOS is available 1.35. I updated, the system rebooted, it was all fine and working. I eventually turned off and rebooted the laptop a couple of times during the day and still everything was fine, until later that day in the evening I put the laptop to sleep (closing the lid). After trying to wake it up I got a cold shower. - The screen doesn't light up- There is no POST or boot picture at all- The Keyboard backlight lights up and works- The adaptive touchbar works (and cycles thru the two menus)- The fan spins for about 5 secs after power om The things I have tried so far: - Connecting to an external monitor to see if there would be any activity - no signal- Tried pulling out the battery and draining the system (holding power button for a minute)- Tried the reset button. Unfortunately nothing worked, and im stuck and in need of assistance. Thank you in advance for your kind advices.
