Yoga X380 - Blue Screen Error

Q: Yoga X380 - Blue Screen Error

Hello, I am a support engineer for our organization, working on deploying 2000 or so Yoga x380's at the end of the month. We currently have an issue where all of these machines will blue screen if they are shut down. This has only started happening since they were updated to Win10 1803 (1703 was the previous installation, and no issues there) Going back to 1703 is not an option, unfortunately. Attached is a screenshot of the BSOD - Code: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUALWhat Failed: dump_storport.sys I have:Included the latest SCCM driver package in our repository and verified it is installing these driversUpdated the BIOS to the most current (1.13?)Manually downloaded and installed every driver on the "Drivers and support" page for this model, including multiple firmware flashes for every conceivable piece of hardware on the deviceRun the disk cleanup utility to wipe away any trace of the previous 1703 install (windows.old) Since we can't deploy like this, What can I do in order to get this fixed?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Lenovo Community, I'm facing pretty strange CPU Performance problems on the X380 Yoga with i7-8550U CPU. The CPU performance becomes very bad after some operating time. I understand the X380 has a limited cooling capacity, but this behaviour is pretty strange. Environment: X380 Yoga, i7-8550U, 16GB Memory, 512GB SSD, Windows 10 1703 Enterprise, SCCM Driver Package used for image building and installation. Bios Version 1.14 installed (most recent one). Drivers are all checked, and are the most recent version. Speed Step Settings in Bios are on Max Performance, on OS also on Max performance. Running Standard Office applications, like Outlook, Skype, Firefox and some management tools. After system boot everything is performing fine for about 1 hour. (I wasn't able to  record the exact time so far). After this, the system starts to get really slow, and shows a bad response time. As soon as some CPU load is applied, the CPU clock in Task Manager goes down, also the CPU load is not able to reach 100%. The CPU Temperature does not go over about 60° at this point. Directly after the system start it goes up to about 85°C. I monitored the CPU with HWMonitor, and put some stress to the Laptop using Prime 95. After some minutes Torture Test I see following values in HWMonitor (see attachment Prime 1.jpg) After about 1 hour run time, I see following: (see attachment Prime 2.jpg) So, the CPU Clock is far down, all temperatures are not really high, no... It also does not seem to function properly for most of the time. Even an excel document seems to force it terribly. Sould I consider sending it to service?  Thanks,Gabriel

Hello my fellow ThinkPad friends, I know that there are already a couple of threads out there concerning high battery drain when the device is completely shut down, but none for the X380 Yoga yet. In some cases (E-Series ThinkPads), a BIOS-Update was released to solve the problem. I would kindly like to ask the Lenovo team to try and figure out whether the same can be accomplished for the X380 Yoga.  When my device is shut down, it usually drains 10-15% a day, which cannot be a regular thing. Of course, I have tried all the usual stuff: - Windows Quick Start is off - USB-power when off is off- Wake-On-LAN or USB-C is off- BIOS updated to R0SET29W 1.13 If you have any other ideas, feel free to post them. Otherwise, I would really appreciate for a BIOS update that might adress the issue. It is kind of annoying charging your device for the weekend knowing that by the next day, you will already have lost 1 to 2 hours of runtime. Best wishes,Manuel

Hello,I am a support engineer for our organization. I've recently tested 15-20 of our X380's and found that the Integrated camera will not activate, and has an error in the driver, as shown in the attached screenshot. Is there a known fix for this? Installing the driver listed on your site, and any listed in the software matrix for the specified device type (20LJ) yields no different results. And we also have 1500 of these coming this week to be prepped for deployment...Please let me know what the fix is

I've had my X380 for only a few weeks now and I noticed it's already getting scratched from being in stand mode. I had an S1 Thinkpad Yoga for years and it never developed scratches from being in stand mode. I noticed that the rubber feet on the palmrest are not the high point but the area below the trackpad is and that's why it's getting scratched.I was thinking if I could get some more of the little rubber feet on the bottom of the palmrest I could maybe double them up to make them taller, but I can't find them anywhere. Does anyone know if these can be bought on their own? Or maybe another suggestion to prevent the scratching? I've temporarily stuck some black rubber strips on the feet to make them taller, but it doesn't look that great. Thanks

I received my X380 Yoga with the i7-8550u a couple week back and the first thing I noticed was the fan running almost constantly. I checked task manager and noticed that even though the CPU usage is remaining low, the clock speed is running at around 3.80 GHz.  My power profile is set to balanced with the minimum processor state set to 5%. If I change the maximum processor state to 99% then the clock speeds drop to below the base speed of 1.99 GHz and the fan quites down.  The problem is the CPU will never go above 1.99 GHz when set like this, so performance is noticeably reduced. I've played around in the bios and the only thing that seems to drop the idle clock speed is to turn off Intel SpeedStep which again stops the CPU from going above 1.99 GHz. From my experience with my past computers the CPU should clock down when the load is low. Is this normal behaviour for this computer and processor? I am I missing a setting, or maybe a program or process is demanding full clock speed from the processor? Any help or comments would be appreciated. Thanks

The weird thing: A couple days ago it used to work almost perfectly, there was no updates in between, it just stopped working. Here's what I tried:Trying different screens: Yes, the problems consists between screens, it seems to be a computer-related problemTrying different cables: Trying brand new cables does now show any differnceDownload and install the latest Thunderbold-Driver: This did not change anythingI am running Windows 10 Version 1803, therefore the BIOS Setting for making Thunderbold availble for Windows 10 1709 or earlier does not do the trickIn Device-Manager when the screen is connected, it does not show up as a Display, just the USB-Hub shows up.Does anybody have experience with this kind of problem? Not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but in the last few weeks my Windows 10 (Pro) on 2 month old Yoga  900 has a memory leak and ramps up to 100% memory, 100% CPU and (strangely enough) then blue screens. Today it's done this 3 times in a row. I've done some digging with PoolMon and traced the offending driver to the Intel WLAN - has anyone else had this problem? The "official" companion does not have the latest Intel (19.20.3) version driver. Is anyone using this driver?  Thanks

I have some issues with my new Yoga 3 Pro.  It´s a random problem.  I received a blue screen with a message "unexpected_kernel_mode_trap".  I reset my Yoga to factory setting.  I reinstalled all windows updates, then, I reinstalled all Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro Drivers.  But, after one day, I received this beatifull dump again.

Dump 1

I research about it, and Microsoft forums says a Memory problem or Memory slot problem.

Now my Yoga with 2 month of use are in a Lenovo vendor support to be in a cirugy  :-(

I ran all Lenovo Test, and everything It´s ok.

To confirm or have a second opinion you can run the os memory diagnostics. If it results to an error then your only choice is to replace the ram yourself or by Lenovo.

This has been going on for about a year. I have tried many things, run many tests. Drivers are up to date. Lenovo says my hardware is all working properly. Windows tests (can't remember them, but I went in with a command prompt to run them) all come back good. I have restored windows back to as "clean" as I can manage with Lenovo's recovery-it did not seem to reformat the disk as some settings were kept. So, as often as twice a day, for no reason, the computer freezes and i get a variety of errors. Critical Stop, etc. I will also sometimes get the black screen saying there in no boot found (i restart it and it then finds the boot). The computer restarts and I am all good for a while.  nothing I try seems to help. I love this laptop and want to figure out what is wrong vs replacing it. anyone know what I should try next?

When it blue screens it shoud be writing a MEMORY.DMP file in the C:\Windows folder or a <datetimestamped>.dmp in the C:\Windows\MiniDump folder, so if you could located one of those, .zip it up and post somewhere to be downloaded and viewed such as Dropbox or OneDrive, it would help find out why your system is crashing. Without seeing the memory.dmp or more details on the BSOD message, there is no way to really tell what is going on. If you cannot find a memory dump, exporting the event logs might help Export the Event Logs  (assuming Windows 10)Right-click on Start and select Windows PowerShell (Admin) -or- Left-click on Start, type Windows PowerShell and select Windows PowerShell from search results.Type, or highlight and copy, the following commands one at a time into the PowerShell command window and then press ENTERNote:  A right click in the Powershell Window will paste the commands get-eventlog -logname System | Export-CSV $Env:userprofile\desktop\SystemEventLog.csv get-eventlog -logname Application | Export-CSV $Env:userprofile\desktop\ApplicationEventLog.csv The commands will create two files (SystemEventLog.csv  and ApplicationEventLog.csv) on your desktop.    Append .txt to the end of the filenames of both files (e.g. ApplicationEventLog.csv.txt) and attach the two files to a reply.     Note:  Adding the .txt to the end of the files is requ... Are you sure of the spelling of the 2nd file name? If so, Google doesn't give any results for it - which is suspicious. The first file name ( wmiacpi.sys ) is a Windows file that's used to help manage the ACPI settings in your system. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/filedb/wmiacpi.sys-7763.htmlA BSOD error will usually point to the file that the error occured in, but this may not be the source of the error. Ive just bought some new memory (TWIN2X4096-8500C5C G), the new memory doesnt seem to work unless I only add one stick, and even with that I get blue screen errors.

So from reading a few pages on teh internet I put my old memory back in, and ran windows driver verifier. Upon restarting I got and keep getting teh following BSOD.

A:Blue Screen IO Error. Verification Error In Wmiacpi.sys (WMD Driver Error 20e)

If the system ran fine...before you added RAM...then you need to see if the new RAM (by itself)...works.The new RAM may not be compatible with your old RAM, in which case the system will run fine with one or the other...but not both. The Driver Verifier tool is tricky to use, I would disregard that effort...for the moment.Remove your old RAM...put the new RAM in...see if the system works properly.FWIW: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/153175/blue-screen-io-error-verification-error-in-wmiacpisys-wmd-driver-error-20e/Louis

Hi everyone. I'm having trouble with my Acer laptop. This is what happened. I recieved an automatic update for IE9. I tryed it out, I did not like the new settings. So, I tryed to delete it, it said that I do not have permission to do that. So I did a System Restore to go back to IE8 and it looked like it was doing it's thing. Then it went into the Blue Error Screen. I turned my laptop off and then back on after a minute or so. Everything looked ok, all the intros still come on but "Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit (Full Version) Login Screen or Welcome Screen" does not load at all. Just stays on a blank black screen with the mouse arrow. I tried using the F8 options on the laptop but they have not done anything so far. SafeMode does not work and apparently there are no Restore Points anymore. No Backups either. Command Prompt still works. I did a scan and it said there is nothing wrong but there is. Should I get the full version of Windows Vista Install Disk and use the Repair option from there? You know where the disk has options like Install, Uninstall, Repair? I'm not talking about a Recovery Disk with the same F8 options as my laptop.

I turned my laptop off and then back on after a minute or so. Everything looked ok, all intros still comes on but "Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit (Full Version) Login Screen or Welcome Screen" does not load at all. Just stays with a blank screen and arrow. I tried using the F8 options on the laptop but they have done nothing so far. SafeMode does not work and apparently there are no Restore Points. No Backups either. Command Prompt still works. I did a scan and it said there is nothing wrong but there is. Should I get the full version of Windows Vista Install Disc and use the repair option from there? You know where it has options like Install, Uninstall, Repair? I'm not talking about a Recovery Disc with same F8 options.

Can someone please give me an explaination on how I can boot a disc from a DVD drive. I'm unable to login to Windows Vista, do I use the Command Prompts to boot a disc?

Hi all,

Starting yesterday my computer would go through startup... while loading the desktop it would crash to blue screen with white text (unfortunately, I can't remember the exact error message). If restarted, it either goes to a blank black screen or back to blue, and I could only get the computer to operate in safe mode with networking. My antivirus software (avast free, malwarebytes)scanned and found no infections.

I have Windows 7, Samsung laptop.

Today, I was able to start the computer normally and am functioning with internet (still acting a little funny), but I am sure something is still not right. I also did a system restore last night, with the same problems (crashing, not starting up).

Any assistance would be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Brit

PS: I (goofily) started a similar topic in the "Windows 7" forum section without knowing this section was down here... Sorry! I tried to delete the topic/post but couldn't. Thanks.

Specs: HP Compaq 5100 SFF Running XP PRO SP3 With A 2.8 GHz P4 and 3 GBs of RAM.
Let me tell you what happened. I was having problems with a very, very slow CD/DVD combo drive and I looked around and around and could find only one thing that seemed like it would help and it made perfect sense. You see, I have a good computer, but it is a Small Form--not allowing me to add much to it. Anything that I have added has to be added as a slave device. Anyway, my configuration was this: My boot drive is a 80 GB SATA drive. Then, I have only one IDE Controller on the Motherboard, which has the CD/DVD drive as master and an old 40GB Hard Drive as slave. My optical drive was turtle or snail slow when viewing pictures, copying/pasting files to the HD, and anything that is data oriented. So, what I did was disconnect the slave HD drive to see if that would make it run like an optical drive was supposed to run, a little slow, but bearable. When I did this, and reconnected and rebooted, it would not boot to anything--safe mode, windows, last known configuration, hp recovery, 2 boot discs, nothing! At the opening screen, I get the opening HP screen, but it has stripes. I go into BIOS and the menus are striped. If I try to boot to Windows/Safe Mode, I get either a black screen where nothing happens, an endless pause, or a Blue Screen telling me that I have a BIOS error and they have stopped at this point to avoid any further damage. There's also a message telling me to press F7 to disable A... Read more

My assumption is one of the memory sticks got loosed from it's slot when you played with the HDD. Please remove the memory modules and use a pencil rubber to clean it's gold plated contacts.  After making sure the contacts are clean and shining, inset them to the slots. If there is more than one module, connect one at a time. Now try to boot the system.

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion g series laptop (running win7) that is in a continuous restarting loop. This happened after the computer auto updated (windows update). I do not know what was updated, but now every time the laptop starts up it seems to be in a continuous rebooting loop after the windows logo then a blue flash. I am unable to go into safe mode or any other mode as I keep getting redirected to a page that gives me two options:Launch Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally. Startup repair gives me the same results as trying to run in safe mode.

By turning the auto-restart on system failure off i was able to read what the blue error message, which says:
-

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is your first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check you hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive curruption, and then restart your computer.

Can someone give me advice on how to solve and prevent this problem? I am currently using a different laptop to access this forum.

Bug Check 0x7B: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

The INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE bug check has a value of 0x0000007B. This bug check indicates that the Microsoft Windows operating system has lost access to the system partition during startup.

Quote:
Cause

The INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE bug check frequently occurs because of a boot device failure. During I/O system initialization, the boot device driver might have failed to initialize the boot device (typically a hard disk). File system initialization might have failed because it did not recognize the data on the boot device. Also, repartitioning the system partition or installing a new SCSI adapter or disk controller might induce this error.

This error can also occur because of incompatible disk hardware. If the error occurred at the initial setup of the system, the system might have been installed on an unsupported disk or SCSI controller. Some controllers are supported only by drivers that are in the Windows Driver Library (WDL). (These drivers require the user to do a custom installation.)
