Preferred Solution: Stopping Pop Up Blockers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. I have been having a problem with my browsers hanging, also my downloads stop and streaming video stops as well. I have cleaned my system and found some malware in a google chrome add on. I ran advanced system care 5, my mcafee virus scan, and malwarebytes and believe I have my system is clean as a whistle. I am only running mozilla firefox right now, but I plan on downloading I.E. again so i can continue to get my windows updates. I just can't seem to figure out what is making all of my browsers hang, not download and stop on streaming video.. . I am running windows vista 32 bit. I have a linksys router and am running on roadrunner dsl. I have already figured out that it isn't either the router or modem thats the problem. I can run other computers just fine. I am hooked up with a ethernet wire, but my laptop and ps3 have no issues with wireless.. Also when i connect this computer straight to the modem there is still a problem, which causes me to think that its my pc. Any help and or suggestions would be great. Thanks

I ran across a thread today in another forum which mentioned a program called ProtoWall which works much like PeerGuardian in blocking IPP's. As I haven't used either one although I've heard of PeerGuardian. ProtoWall is new to me. Anyone here heard of it/ using it by chance?

Hi there,

A few years ago I remember seeing this program that basically acted like ZoneAlarm or other similar programs, however the difference with this one was that it allowed you to see and block IP addresses that you didn't want.

it even provided you with a location (not pinpoint location but general) on a map as well. such as city or town the address was located in.

anyone have any idea what this program was, or have any suggestions for any similar programs.

reason I ask is because I've been made aware that someone is tracking one of my friends connections and showing them lists of the sites they've been visiting.

I want to block this person from ever doing that to me, or my friends.

cos its just bang out of order that they do something like this..

thanks for your time

A:IP Blockers

Well, that blocking software will not help you. Do you know the IP address of this bad person? Are you sure that he is not using some other computer as a relay to forward this information?

You protect yourself from harm by:
1. Being sensible. Really, do not run programs you download from the internet unless you are absolutely sure they can be trusted.
2. Not using Internet Explorer
3. Using a software firewall that prompts you when a program tries to access the internet. Don't click "allow" right away. Think whether you want this internet connection to happen.
4. Using a proper antivirus program.
5. Doing regular spyware scans of your computer.
6. Being sensible. Do not install random programs please. Think hard whether you need this crap. Especially if it is offered to you by a friend or a friendly advertising banner.
7. Not socialising with *******s. Really, you don't want suspicious computer-savvy people using your computer even for a "couple of minutes".
8. See point 1

A:Pop-up blockers WON'T

go to here and download 'Hijack This!' double click on the file and it will install to C:\program files\hijackthis and create an entry in the start menu and an optional shortcut on desktop.
Click on the entry in start menu or on the desktop to run HijackThis
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Hi all

Does anyone have any recommendations for stopping pop ups. I have personally never had a problem with these but I am sorting out a friends computer who constantly seems to be getting pop ups!

She has been running her pc for some time with no anti-virus installed (un-knowingly) and after running a scan in AVG it came up with lots of trojans and all sorts of crap which I have moved to the virus vault but this does not seem to have made any difference.

Please help as I think her sanity is coming to an end with this.

Cheers in advance

A:Pop up blockers

Hi, (I've taken care of the other thread in All Other Software for you)

Fixing these type of problems may mean that you will have to run scans over a time frame of a few days...it doesn't bother us to work that way, as long as you are able to do so.

An option would be to have the friend join TSG and do the fixing and posting logs etc.... again, we don't mind if you do it, but there will probably be a time lag for you both.

Here is what to do first (whoever does the work): Do this ON the infected computer! It's easier...

The friend could do this, and pass the logs on to you to post...or you go to their location and do it- especially if they are not too experienced, that latter option sounds best.

go to Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
Click the blue "Download the Hijackthis Installer" link
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop. DO NOT just press run from the website
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then save the log and then the log will open in Notepad.
Don't use the Analyse This ... Read more

Question: Do the pop up ad blockers work and if so are there any that you recommend?

A:pop up ad blockers

I use Popup Stopper to prevent opening of additional browser windows (unless I want them). In "agressive" mode it works very well and is available free HERE.

I also run AdShield to prevent downloading of ads from sites I visit It also contains a popup stopper but the PanicWare version (above) doesn't even let this one get involved. AdShield also works very well and is also available free of charge HERE.

Hi greeneyes29

Welcome to TSG!

* First you need to unzip (extract) Hijack This and move it to a permanent folder. It will not function properly when run from the zip folder or the Temp folder.

You need to create a new folder in My Documents and name it Hijack This. Right click on the HijackThis.zip file and choose "Extract all" and extract it to the Hijack This folder you created. That way it can create and restore backups if needed. HJT will store the backups in the same location that it is run from.
* Run ActiveScan online virus scan here

When the scan is finished, save the results from the scan!

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from ActiveScan
* Also oOpen Hijack This and click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button. Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button. Copy and paste that list here.

I am trying to upload to craigslist from another website and it says I need to turn off my pop up blockers. I have tried everything I can think of to do this and it still won't work.

This is what I have done so far.

Went into IE 8 under tools, internet options and turned off the pop up blocker.
Added both craisglist and my other website to allow for pop ups.
Removed google toobar and any other extra toolbars I had.
Ran Malwarebytes and Kaspersky to make sure all malware and viruses are removed.
I even loaded foxfire and tried that as well, and put the websites in as ok for pop ups and turned off that pop up blocker.
went to www.popuptest.com and ran the tests. It shows that of ten pop ups, two are blocked on test one, and on test two 2 of 4 are blocked.

What else can I do? This is driving me crazy!

I'm not entirely sure what my problem is and I've been chiseling at it for about 3 weeks, without gettting much success. My computer has been having a lot of trouble ltely, and I'm pretty sure it's all coming from the same root. The main issue right now has to do with the audio service. usually when I start my computer and check "Sounds and Audio Devices", I get a message saying "No Audio Device" and I can't change any options. I can remedy this by going into Administrative Tools>Services>Finding Windows Audio Sevices>Pressing Start. This will either activate the sound card as i it's worked the entire time, or load very slowly only to say that the service will not respond in a timely fashion. If this error occurs, no other service will start either. There are other problems as well, but they seem to be fixed when the sound card activates). Other problems include firefox failing to start(which seems to correlate with whether or not the Sound Card Works) no Windows XP Theme,(which had been corrupted, as well as trouble starting the themes service, and sometimes the startup freezes and explorer.exe(taskbar) ends up with an eternal hourglass for a mouse(not sure what's causing it, but i think it has something to do with the theme.

I am running Windows XP professional with 2GB of RAM
it is a homeade computer with A Pentium D Processor and MSI Motherboard- 945GZM6

Considering that a firewall may include popup blockers, or spam blockers, or ad blockers, and considering that IE, or I now see, Firefox can do the same, I wonder if these utilities conflict with one another with potentially damaging results.
Any experience? Any evidence? How is it all resolved?
I'd like to understand how it works.

I have no evidence either way, but I generally like to only use one app per purpose. If you have a firewall with popup blocking, get rid of the popup blocker etc.

What is the best spyware blocker? I have Spyware Blaster but I still end up with malware in my system. I just got Service Pack 2 so I had to shut down Zone Alarm. I also shut down Adsgone. I hope Service Pack 2 is as good as it's cracked up to be.

A:Spyware Blockers?

There is no requirement that you shut down ZoneAlarm just because you downloaded and installed SP2. If you wish to use ZoneAlarm in preference to the Windows firewall, you can certainly do so.

No spyware blocker program will keep you safe from all infections, just as no antivirus will keep you safe from all viruses. There are other precautions that you can take, but there are no guarantees.

If you go over to the security forum and look at the sticky thread How Did I Get Infected In the First Place? you will find some more tools to help you. In addition to SpyWareBlaster, you can install SpyWareGuard and IE-Spyads, which will increase your protection level. You can also download Mozilla Firefox for most of your web browsing, and leave Internet Explorer for Windows Updates only. Since most adware/spyware targets Internet Explorer, this is a quick, cheap fix.You also need to have Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy installed on your computer. All of these programs should be updated regularly, just as your antivirus should.

Finally, it's important to avoid places where ad/spyware is most prevalent. If you spend time on porn, gambling or game sites, your chances of being infected increase. Clicking on ads is a bad practice, too. The more ads you click on, the more risk you take. Anything that advertises itself as free in a large banner ad is probably not.

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble getting past the Forum Guidelines section of the VTS&MRL board. To clarify, the aforementioned board requires its posters to go through a series of preliminary steps before you post the text files required for a diagnosis. Said preliminary steps are found under the Forum Guidelines heading of the board and are found, specifically, under the Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help link. In short, we can't get past Step 7 of the Preparation Guide, which leads me to the relevant questions:Are there script blocking utilities and/or settings in Windows XP which can block the dds.scr file from completing its intended task? In other words, is there a setting in XP that prevents said file from gathering the text files required by the VTS&MRL board? Our PC is equipped with Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3. We have visited the Win XP Update site and it indicates that we have all of the available updates. We've been experiencing this issue for some time now, so I really appreciate any productive thoughts in this regard. Simple reason... conflict. Just bcuz you have like 2+ firewalls or anti things, doesn't mean your security is better as these 2 anti things do conflict and cause some security loopholes. One is enough.

Reversing WIN10 blockers
System: Acer Aspire X3475, AMD A8-5500 APU with Radeon HD 3.2 GHz. WIN7 home premium. Service pack 1.
About June 2016 I wanted to protect my 64 bit computer from sneak-in WIN 10.
As a precaution of possibly changing my mind about replacing WIN 7 I downloaded WIN10-32 & WIN10-64 onto memory stick and DVD.
I run the following 2 programs:
___YYY__WIN10 DisEnAble Selector___GWX_control_panel.exe
I modifies the front of the program name so I would know what these are for and not start them just to find out.

Since then WIN10 stuff did no longer appear in the WIN7 update list.
However, all 76 updates for WIN7 were blocked too. The update process would list them, I permitted, the "download & install" process would run forever.
Next day WIN7 update would again offer 76 WiN7 updates.
I run the WIN7 update permission about 3 times, then gave up.

Now as the free WIN10 period has passed maybe there is less or no danger of WIN10 sneaking in for free. So it might be a good idea to reverse the effect of the 2 programs I run.
What is your opinion and what should be done, and how?

A:Reversing WIN10 blockers

Well you can delete the above in registry and uninstall GWX Control Panel - or just disable real time protection from within the GUI.

Leaving those registry entries won't hurt.

On my main email address, I am able to block senders and then view them at any time on my Blocked senders list. On my secondary email address, when I block the sender, it is temporarily on my list and then goes away. I haven't figured out how to view that list with the senders.

Please help

I know there have got to be some hidden pop-up blockers stopping me from getting into some games in pogo...I have located 4, now does anyone know any cute little trick's to finding the other's? found Norton's, msn's, sp2's, and Yahoo's... got to be more somewhere, I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I have to enter pogo through the back door, even though im a pogo club member...Hmmmm thx having this site it's top-of-the-line

Hello pogoplayer and welcome!

It does seem like that might be the problem. Is it all the games or just a select few? Those are about all the pop up blockers I would say you have also, unless you have google toolbar also.

The other items to check are java and flash updates. Just wondering why the back door?

Can anyone suggest to me good quality spam and ad blockers? I want a spam blocker that's easy to setup and ad blockers that block most ads, as some ad stoppers I have had have actually stopped me from opening those little windows that are needed for some sites I visit. Thanks.
