Q: cant open images from thumbnail

When I click on thumbnail it opens an image editing program but no file opens
I have tried to tell it to open with ie photoshop7 but only the program opens no image???????????????

Preferred Solution: cant open images from thumbnail

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have Windows XP. Recently, my video files do not display a thumbnail image of the video. Instead, there is a small graphic that says "wmv", "avi", etc. How do I get the video images back?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like your "View" choice got changed to "icons" somehow. Use the toolbar at the top of your photo folder, and under "View" select "Thumbnails." If that's not it, please post back with more details.

Hey Guys,

What determines how a URL Thumbnail gets posted in a link to a page? Sometimes I will provide a link to a webpage for reference like on Facebook and there will be a thumbnail along with the URL link. I recently posted a link on Facebook where the URL posted and linked to just fine. The URL Thumbnail shows a picture of a little dog! The thing is, I can't find the picture of the little dog on the website to which the link goes. The website itself is a huge database which requires registration and I could not post the link here by example, sorry.

When using gmail via FireFox, images that are attached are also shown as thumbnails.

When you click an image, it opens in a new window. No problem w/ that.

However, it will appear very very large, and there is no manner in which I've quickly found to make them just fit the screen...

Any ideas?

In xplorer˛ go to Tools > Options > General tab, where it says "Thumbnail size (pixels)", the default is 96, increase that to whatever you like.

Hi to everyone & Hi @ THROOPER!

I am missing some icon thumbnail images.

Vaio SZ1VP laptop, Win 7 / Office 2007 / Bitedfender

- Fixed an Infineon/TPM driver problem - icon images still correctly displayed.
- Followed "blackviper" web page tuning advice to reduce active services - icon images still correctly displayed.
- Followed "blackviper" web page tuning advice to increase PC speed (Win7) for "best performance/best appearance". Amongst other tweaks I set classic windows' basic UI.

Problem started when I reverted to basic Win7 UI.

I already tried many forum solutions (including a few from this forum, deleting cache, reg modifications, MS file check/fix which took 30 minutes, right click on icon, properties, etc - but no option to change icon) etc... but none worked.

What does work is:
Open the file which has the missing thumbnail image and save it with a different name - icon's thumbnail image is restored!

Still can't work out a solution for programs' icons missing thumbnail images. Toolbar Outlook and Skype icons still missing correct thumbnail image but Firefox icon image is correctly displayed.

Throoper helped solve a case: ( http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/1024674-missing-shortcut-icons-pictures.html ) by offering 2 links & delete cache db.

I would like to try that, if Throoper has links for Win 7. Any other help/support greatly appreciated.

Many people post screenshots here, which I like. And sometimes those images are displayed as thumbnails, which I also like as it allow you to ignore the image if you want, or select it if you want to take a look.

The problem for me is that once I click a post's thumbnail image, it defaults to a "zoomed out" view which does not allow me to be able to see the text on the image.

Now, if I wait around a bit, wiggle the mouse around a bit, click right button (clear), left button (clear) and leave the cursor motionless for a few seconds MAYBE I might get an orange box with arrows aiming outward to appear.

Now *IF* I move the cursor SLOWLY to the box and click on it, THEN I get the "full" image so I can read the text. Sometimes if I move the cursor too fast the box disappears and I have to do the whole ritual all over again.

This is so aggravating and so stupid sometimes I change my mind and don't even bother to view the image. Stupid thing. Aggravating as all heck.

Seems there ought to be a right-click option to just view the image at full resolution, but there's not. Seems also there ought to be a tab at the top of IE to do the same thing, but there's not. Guess I should mention this is an IE thing and not Windows Viewer or anything else.

What is the deal with this ? Am I the only person that hates this stupid thing ? Don't even know what to call it in order to do a Google search.

Is there some way around this ? Some setting or som... Read more

A:how to add my own thumbnail images to files & folders?

Hello Xdash,

One workaround that you could do is to have that folder with only the image or video file that you want to show as the thumbnail, then create a new subfolder in this folder for the rest of the files so that they will not be included with the thumbnail of the main folder.

Another workaround is to create a shortcut of this folder, and change the icon of the folder shortcut.

Hope this helps some,

While trying to do a repair installation of XP pro, I managed to mess up the boot information pretty bad for hard drive #1. Was not able to repair so I did a new installation on a new hard drive (#2).

Once new windows installation was loaded, 2 of the 3 partitions on HD#1 would not show up, and were marked as unallocated space. In another topic in this forum someone recommended GetDataBackNTFS, with which I was able to recover all data from both missing partitions and copy them to HD#2.

But most of those files are corrupt. Some MP3s sound like they were put through a blender... I'll play an mp3 and it will be a collection of short snips of random mp3s from all over my computer, very strange.

So I had lots of photos on one of the missing partitions. Copied them over. Most of them have thumbnails, but when I try to open them with the regular windows image viewer it says No Preview Available, and I cannot load them in Photoshop either.

So, am I out of luck? Are these images done for? Or is it something simple in the file that can be fixed? I've gone through several repair programs, and none have helped at all.

Here is an example jpg.
It has a thumbnail (well it did on my home computer, but there's no thumbnail showing up here on my work computer), but cannot open. Sorry if this question is a pain in the ****, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Open folder and have thumbnail pics question

Hello Caslon,

Double check in Default Programs to make sure that you have Windows Photo Viewer set as the default program with all of it's associations set to it as well. Plus, double check to make sure that you have thumbnail previews turned on for Windows Explorer. The icons will need to be at least set to medium icon size to see the thumbnails.

I took pictures at a family wedding with a Cannon Rebel Camera. They came out great and I even used on for me wall paper. Then I started having problems with the computer so I copied the pictures to an external hard drive and had the computer reformatted. Once it was up and running, I copied the pictures back to the hard drive and even though they are in the same folder, same size, some will open up large and can be used as a wall paper and some only open in a thumbnail size and if I enlarge it, it gets blurry. Anyone know How I can change the attributes back so when I double click on it, it opens full screen like some of the others? P.S. I tried opening it with infrview, internet explorer, microsoft picture viewer, etc....

Came across a cool behavior. I've been looking at thumbnails of digital family pics. Every now and then when I double-click to open the file it proceeds to open a DIFFERENT picture with the same name (when using the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or Paintshop Pro or Paint so problem not localized to one application). Have never experienced this before. And if that isn't bizarre enough.................

I changed a thumbnail file name to a different name........the pic changed to a different pic before my eyes and remained this new pic when I doubleclicked.......double weird.

I am looking for a way, either in Windows directly, or with an add-on application like Window Blinds, to change the appearance of my Taskbar. Currently, the Taskbar has icons on it for each open application, and when I hover over the application icon, the windows that are open in that application appear below my task bar as thumbnails (since I keep my taskbar on the top of the screen). However, sometimes, when Internet Explorer has too many windows open, and thus too many thumbnails to fit on the screen (horizontally), it will display a vertical list of open windows in that app. Alongside of each open window listing is the standard RED X for closing that window as well.

I would like it to display all of my program's open windows like this all of the time, regardless of how many are open. (No more thumbnails.)

This is the only thing I want to change. If someone knows how to do this in Windows or otherwise, can you please let me know?

Thanks for your help!

I am trying to open jpeg image files from a CD on my new Vista PC laptop and it is not working. I think I burned them on a Mac - there is a small red Apple icon on the disc drive icon.

I can see the jpeg files in the disc folder but can't open them by double-clicking the jpeg icons - nothing happens.

I can't import them into Windows Photo Gallery.

When I drag and drop them into Photoshop, it just opens blank white jpeg of the same dimensions.

If I try to open them from within Photoshop, I get the error message: "A device attached to the system is not functioning".

I can't copy the files onto my computer.

Last week in my wisdom (not) I decided to try the beta version of office 2007. It failed nearly at the end of installation, proceeded to rollback all the settings but came up with the message could not roll back. Well shafted I then thought.
However, I removed what I could find of office 2003 and reinstalled. The only problem then was outlook not working - didnt know why. Solved the problem temporarily by setting account up with outlook express and exporting all husbands work e-mail to express.
Managed to get outlook working again by reinstalling (something I have now tried 3 times). Everything is updated. I imported all the email messages back from express. However now i find I cannot open .gif images. I assumed to was a corrupt transfer somewhere along the line as all email was transferred back with the same date of 9th June. Today I have received an email with .gif images in and am unable to open them. I did try Thunderbird and that transferred all emails with the correct date but unable to open images.......getting annoyed by now.
I have read a few help articles that suggest making sure show image is checked, try restoring computer - doesnt restore tried early June and late May. Does not restore. Read about registry possibility about a key being named ..... whatever. This appears to be correct.
How can I remedy this situation? Help would be appreciated as some mail is relevant to my husbands work and he needs to be able to access .gif for logos etc.

I purchased a membership to a digital elements site (for scrapbooking) but the files seem to be unusable to me, and ONLY to me, since none of their other thousands of members encounters this problem and their customer service has never heard of it happening.

The files come zipped, so I unzip them like usual, and then they're all jpg or png files. The problem is when I try to browse the freshly unzipped files/folders through Windows Explorer OR through Photoshop 7 File Browser, it immediately crashes Windows Explorer or Photoshop. I get the generic "Explorer has encountered an error and must close...." error. This happens 95% of the time with jpg files, and 100% of the time with png files. And it doesn't matter what view I choose (thumbnails, list, details, etc.) Even if I click File-->Open in Photoshop...as soon as I click on one of those folders or files it immediately closes Photoshop, but I don't get any error messages.

ANY clue to why this is happening or how to fix it?? I have no spyware, viruses, or other issues. I'm running WinXP Home with 1GB ram, all updates current. I have all image files (gif, jpg, png, etc.) associated with Photoshop.

Hi to everyone,
I've apparently done something at some stage that has changed the way all pics open. Whatever I did a week or so ago, since then, all my photos, from any source, mail, files whatever, all open in my Kodak Easy Share program. I absolutely don't want them too and need to find out how to change them back to the way they were prior to the change. I'm using windows 98.
I have gone into My Computer, into the Folder Options and File Types. I've found "1%20JPGFile and clicked on edit to see what it was currently using and sure enough it is Kodak. Now I'm lost! If I click edit again it takes me to change file type, where it has change icon, description, actions. If I click edit AGAIN, I have Application Used To Perform Action, which is where I assume I need to be. Under that "C:\WINDOWS\Kodakimg.exe "%1"" has been selected. If I then click browse to try to see what is available other than Kodak, it takes me to "Look In 1033" with these options,"Cnfnot32, MI3xec16, Scanost, Scanpst". All of which mean absolutely nothing to me.

Can someone please tell me if this is where I need to be and/or how I get my darned pics to open as jpg files but not in Kodak.

On a website with pics and am unable to see some of them. I get the icon which indicates a pic that can be clicked on but when I click on it , nothing happens. I'm not sure what happened and whether I have to change any settings.

A:Can't open images on website

Which browser are you using?
Is this happening on just one website or all?

When was the last time you cleared out your browsers cache?

Hello, I have a problem which actually occurs no matter which browser I use, but since I normally use Chrome I might as well post it here.

I occasionally run into an image which, no matter how I try to get around it, will NOT open in the browser. Clicking "open in new tab" just causes it to download instead, as does copying and pasting the image address into the address bar. This happens for a wide variety of image types, image sizes, and as stated before it is independent of which browser I use.

To be honest, it happens rarely enough that it's not a major issue for me, but I would at least like to know why this happens. I tried Googling every possible combination of relevent keywords I could think of and came up with nothing. Even if you don't have a solution, does anyone at least have an explanation? It seems strange that certain random images cannot be opened in any browser while the other 95% of them can.

A:Some images cannot open in browser.

The images you're referring to are probably protected and the site is blocking. To test this, try the same image on a computer outside your network.

I am having a similar problem as someone else on here but the thread was closed before the problem was solved. I took some pictures with my digital camera and without dropping it or damaging it in any way, it said the card could not be used, even though it had just been working fine. I plugged the SD card into my laptop and it said there was an I/O error. I have Windows Vista. Anyway, I ended up finding software to get some pictures uploaded from the SD card and the images are all JPEGs but they won't open on Windows Photo Gallery or Paint. For Windows Photo Gallery it says "Photo Gallery can't open the video or picture. This file is not supported, or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Gallery." For Paint it says "Paint cannot read this file. This is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported." I tried converting the pictures with some software I found on the internet but they didn't convert. Do you have any idea what the problem is or how I can fix it? Oh, and after I did all this, the SD card worked in my camera, but it had no pictures on it. Are the files corrupted some how?

A:JPEG Images won't open

Download and install card recovery software here:

See if that recovers your files. Do you have a USB cable that you can use instead of using the card reader?

I'm using XP Home... Everything had been going well, but now when I try to open jpg images in either of two folders via Windows Explorer, Photoshop, or InDesign, the programs shut down, often without even an error message. I can still access the images through other programs. Images stored in other folders do not present problems. This only happens with these particular folders, so I am thinking that these have become corrupted somehow, although they worked before. Any ideas? I have run RegistryFix, with no effect.
