Q: Severe Backlight Bleed on my Dell XPS 15 9560 FHD version

I have purchased XPS 15 9560 FHD on November and noticed this serious backlight bleed on both edges which I can see just by looking at the display day or night as you can see on the image.
Is there anyway I can replace this within warranty period. I have opened a support request via support assist 4 days ago but no reply from their end.I am little bit concerned about this laptop and brand right now as I am from India and I spend a huge amount of money on this thing already. I also doubt the availability of replacement parts in India as this is a newly launched laptop here. Please help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I recently bought a dell 15 7567 with 4k screen.  It has backlight bleeding on three corners. More pronuced on left top and bottom side. . Even at 20% brightness there is still backlight bleeding.

I bought Dell Inspiron 7559 and I am very happy with laptop. However, I noticed that there is some backlight bleed on the bottom of the screen. I dont know what is acceptable level. Is this good or defect?

In my opinion that is horrible and looks like there is some damage or the panel wasn't seated correctly.  I would warranty it if you are still under warranty.

The only solution is to have the monitor replaced, assuming it's under warranty.  If it was purchased from Dell, contact customer support and have it replaced.
If it was purchased from a third party, return it to the seller for a refund or replacement.

I've just bought a brand new Omen 17 with a 4k screen and replaced it once due to obvious backlight bleed.  The replacement laptop still has pretty obvious backlight bleed.  Do all HP Omen laptops just have this as part of a poor design and therefore should I just get a refund or have I just been unlucky and received two duff items?

Hi, I've had my laptop for just a couple of weeks and have noticed that there is a yellowish corner of the screen. It is only apparent with a black screen. I have a theory that there is extra pressure in the right corner because that's where the thinkpad logo and red light are on the backside.  Anyway, it doesn't bother me; I'm just worried that it might get worse progessively.  I don't really want to have to send it back to China and wait for repairs. But want to go ahead fix it while under warranty if there is a possibility that it will get worse.  ?Is this an acceptable amount of bleeding? (note: the only bleed is in the top right corner. It's definitely bleed because it goes away when I bend the screen ever so slightly. Everything else is glare. )

Hello I just got my new Yoga 920 - really liking it so far. There is a small amount of backlight bleed at the bottom of the screen - it's something I can live with, but considering it's a top of the line machine and cost a lot of money, is any amount of backlight bleed acceptable? I'm not sure if I should consider returning it and getting a new one, and risk getting one that is even worse. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Many thanks Zack

This laptop is a Best Buy Blue Label, configured for sale exclusively by Best Buy.   The price is right for the included features, but we're very disappointed in HP's QA measures. This unit should never have made it out of the factory. Right out of the box, the display suffers from severe backlight bleeding in both lower corners of the display, so obvious that it's plain for anyone to see. Screen resolution may be 1920 x 1080 Full HD, but Netflix and Amazon HD videos are not as sharp or as bright as the same videos at the same resolution on my 3 year-old 15.4" MacBook Pro Retina Display. Backlit keyboard is either off or on, and on is far too bright, with bright light leaking around the chiclet keys, clearly visable and distracting. We want to like this computer.  We're tempted to simply exchange it for another.  In addition to our MacBook, we have a 13" HP Pavilion dv3510nr bought in 2009 that has been faultless.  But with our new HP Envy demonstrating such an obvious flaw in the display, we wonder what hidden flaws might manifest themselves weeks or months from now if we were to purchase another. This purchase represents a perfect example of why one shouldn't make a purchase of this type from an exclusively online seller. At least, with Best Buy we have a big box store where we can return it.

Problem solved. I returned the second HP laptop to Best Buy and purchased an open-box fully-warranted all-in-one 21.5-inch  iMac with a glorious 1080P display, wireless keyboard and mouse and not one single issue.  Partitioned the hard drive for WIndows 10.  Sorry, HP.

I bought this laptop and after i opened the box i went for a video to see the display features. Then i noticed that there are White Spots\Screen Bleeding at the edges of the screen.I returned the laptop to dealer and he told me this was not a fault or defect and he was not going to change it.They simply do not accept that this is an acceptable condition to replace the laptop.He agrees that this happens to many products and he knew this was the issue in his many products but refused to return it.I need advice... Thanks in advance...

just got my P72 with a UHD screen and it has backlight bleed on the bottom.I attached photos to show.. It's on the right side just off the corner and on the left side that has a hard edge of light bleed and its pretty wide. ( it also changes depending on viewing angle ) Whould like to know what the vets think as this is my first lenovo.After paying what i did, i would expect no bleeding at all. Not really wanting to send it back just to get another one with the same problem or have someone come rip the screen apart to install another one that might have the same problems. what you do guys think?Any help is appreciated!

Yours is far better. Mine had more bleeding than this. Area to watch for is bottom left. Reported to Premier support. Waited three weeks, LCD was back-ordered, two times panels replaced, bleeding issued persisted. Now they are sending me new replacement. No point in calling for this, as my problem got worse. The replaced LCD part had stuck pixels. If the bleeding is affecting you and if you are within the return window return the laptop for refund/replacement. I am past 30 day return window, good thing about Premier Support is they escalated and they are sending me a new replacement unit.

Hi all, I've been having problems with backlight bleed on my 720s 13" (i7 8th gen, UHD Glossy display) that I bought directly from Lenovo. There's a "moderate amount" of bleeding from the top and bottom corners on the left side of the machine. I called Lenovo and they sent me a replacement within a few days, but the replacement machine was unfortunately even worse. I'm curious if this is a well-known issue with QC on IdeaPad machines with IPS displays right now? I feel like getting two bad units can't just be bad luck... Also, will Lenovo CS send me another (3rd total) unit if I send one of these back? I can't go without a laptop because of work, but I really don't want to be stuck with this issue on a brand new laptop with a "premium" display. Thanks in advance!

The strange thing is that if I press other parts of the frame, the bleed disappears from the bottom and moves near the part of the frame I am pressing. For the photo I have used 100% brightness. I decided the very first time to test use the 360 hinge and made it like a tablet and it sort of messed up the perfect full hd screen. Light bleed was very noticeable from every corner and  I couldnt enjoy the dark themed movie. Picture relates.Should I be conserned or does this happen on every 710?

Since I got my laptop there has been a problem with screen backlight bleed in the bottom left-hand corner of the display. It is clearly noticeable when in a dark environment, showing dark content on the screen or when the screen brightness is turned up high, however, it is not that noticeable in normal use. Lenovo has offered a repair but I am interested in hearing whether people think this is worth it. I am worried that after the inconevience of backing up all my data and sending my laptop away, the repair will not make much difference to the issue, as it affects nearly all laptops so some degree. Does anyone have any experience with getting this kind of issue repaired and if so was it worth it?

Did u ever send it in for repair? I got 3 of the 710 laptops and 2 have really bad bleed but the 1 I kept is a lot better with just a little bleed in the lower left. Same boat as you. Lenovo offered repair but I'm hesitant it might come back worse.

Hello, this is my first post here! I just bought a Lenovo Y700 today, and I'm very impressed with it so far. However there's just one thing bothering me: backlight bleeding. I've never owned anything with an IPS display before, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Could you please tell me if this is acceptable or not? Does it get worse with time or stay the same? I was not able to open http://imgur.com/a/rAHFvSeems your issue might be similar to this thread . Check on the image provded .On the sample image glow seems to appear on different angles too.

"IPS glow should only be apparent at extreme viewing angles in very dark images or black screens. If it is visible from head on and always in the same spots, it's not IPS glow, it's backlight bleed " .
In normal IPS display, such glow usually is mimimal and be lesser than an inch.
Else call in tech support for repair especially if return is not an option.

I just purchased a yoga 710 11.6" model and the first one had a good amount of backlight bleed coming through on three corners. Enough that I went in for an exchange. My second unit looks much better but still has a bit of bleeding in the lower left corner. Not really visible in normal tasks, but I notice it on boot up and any dark images/videos especially when viewed in a dark room. Of course it lessens with brightness, but is still there.  Is this acceptable or should I have it exchanged/replaced? I'd hate to do an exchange and get an even worse unit in return. This one isn't thaaaat bad, but I still notice it. The image is also a bit exaggerated from the camera and doesn't look as bad in person. Opinions?

Hello, everyone! I just received my new Lenovo Y700, and overall, I love it!But there is a thing that's bugging me: backlight bleed/ips glare. While working on the laptop, or even watching movies (watched Star Trek Beyond), it doesn't seem to bother me, I don't really notice it. But if if there is a full black screen and i stare at it, yeah. I can see the darn bleed. Is this much bleed normal? Should I return it and get another one (hopefully I will be more lucky)? Or do ALL of the IPS panels out there have such issues, and i better stick with this one? I am attaching screenshots taken in full darkness, at 100% brightness. (N.B., in reality it doesn't look SO bad as on camera, idk why; also, if i set it to 75% brightness its A LOT less visible). One more thing: Can any of you that have this model attach some pictures under the same conditions, so I can at least compare?  Thanks a million!

A couple of days ago I bought a new laptop after my old one died. I use this for school and personal use. I love the laptop. It's great. I bought it from Walmart so since it's new a couple of days old if I need to return it I can. But I just wanna see if this stuff is normal or not and if I'm being way to picky. I spent a lot of money on this and if something's wrong with it I wanna return it and exchange it while I can.So the problem I'm having is the screen. This is the first time I've owned an HD laptop screen and especially one that's this thin. It's an IPS screen and a touch screen. Well i had some time yesterday to sit down and mess with the laptop and changed my wallpaper and it's a black wallpaper well I noticed the top left and right corners of the the screen there is some fade to yellow or white at the corners. So would this be IPS glow or back light bleed? I tried to take a good picture it's a little more noticeable in person but this is close. Also another question. This is a pretty thin laptop, the thinnest laptop I've ever owned and I noticed when I close the screen down when I'm done when my hand touches the metal lid on the back of the laptop while closing it the screen ripples, is that normal? Hello all,just a quick enquiry to figure out if I have to send the laptop in for repairs: Since yesterday my display remains illuminated in the right hand corner after the laptop is switched off (see picture).I've taken out the battery to cut the power supply (no use, it has a second internal battery) and rebooted but that didn't affect this issue. When the laptop is turned on the screen works perfectly fine. I assume the hardware is broken - has anybody experienced something similar? I can't find any online support by Lenovo (submitting tickets is currently offline). Grateful for any advice! EDIT: I googled a bit more - it's a backlight bleed. An issue known for T450s, possibly caused by humidity. Does anybody have some ideas for fixes, or is replacement the only option?

I have owned 3 of these computers. All purchased from best buy. Every single one has had this problem and i returned the last 2. This isn't a small problem either, I've found multiple cases of this online. It seems to happen to the bestbuy laptops the most. I tried contacting hp support on the computer but they were no help and when they called me I couldn't understand a word of what he was saying. Great laptop, horrible screen.  Has anyone found a fix for this or has hp recalled these laptops? I have connected 3 external monitors to my 9560 laptop via TB16 dock. 2 Dell 24" 4K monitors: 1) DP to DP and 2) miniDP to DP & 1 Dell 24" 1920-1080 via VGA-VGA connection. The 4K monitor with miniDP to DP constantly disconnects. What am i doing wrong here?

I have a 2 month old XPS15 purchased form the Dell Outlet Store in the UK. I usually have it permanently plugged in, but recently used it on battery power for the first time. I noticed that the battery wasn't charging, and the indicator light at the front blinks alternately white and orange (one white then one orange)
After a bit of investigation I found the BIOS Battery settings saying that the battery was not a genuine Dell battery and therefore wouldn't charge. I have not changed the battery - the machine is exactly as supplied by Dell.
It now pops up a warning about the battery whenever I power on.
I tried upgrading the BIOS (from 1.1.3) but every time I tried it would fail.
Is it now standard practice for Dell to supply laptops without genuine Dell batteries?

I have a XPS 15 (9560) and using it with a Dell P2715Q 4k monitor running through a d6000 dock.
Monitor is connected to the dock from mDP to DP and the dock via USB-C to the laptop.
The monitors performance didn't seem great and the images weren't very smooth. The issue is more when playing video or running AutoCAD 2018. When checking the video settings through AutoCAD it is always the on board graphics that is being used not the dedicated graphics. Even when I use the nVidia panel to force the program and global settings to the GTX1050 it doesn't seem to want to use it for the external display.
Any help would be greatly appreciated because as far as I was concerned the laptop shouldn't have an issue running the monitor at 4k 60Hz.

I just ordered a Dell Inspirion 15 7577 on the black friday sale (11/24/17) and, before anything, I'd like to say that Dell did a fantastic job on this model. Great thermal management, stunning graphics and highly solid and durable chassis. I am in love with this laptop.
But unfortunately, my screen did come with some backlight bleeding from the start and some clouding. It is not noticeable when gaming, except when I go into a dark area. But it is there and I cannot seem to ignore it.
I have ran the color tests (power button + D) and they are not noticeable then, but are very noticeable on a black screen.
What are my options and next steps?

P.S. I am attaching a photo of my screen. The bleed is in the upper-mid section of the screen. And the clouding is most apparent on the upper-left and upper-right corners.

You're probably best off asking for a replacement system.  The other option is to have the screen replaced.

I have a new Dell Inspiron 7000 (7579), purchased Feb 2017. Actually two of them. Same results on both laptops.When I use headphones, signals from both the right track and left track come out of both sides of the headphones. I have gone through every setting that I can find. Settings are set to stereo, and there are no enhancements on.
The tracks play out of the speakers as split tracks. The tracks play out of the HDMI port properly, as well as USB playback devices.
I have tried multiple sets of headphones. Identical tracks and headphones work properly on other older laptops and other equipment. (I am an audio engineer for a living).
Any help is appreciated.

My XPS 15 9560 has been out of warranty for a few months, recently got the dreaded bloated battery/raised trackpad. I've done my research and saw that this is a common issue among other people who have it. I I think it is now become a legitimate safety concern, as it has swollen enough.
Is there any way for this to be fixed?

This is an odd question but anyway I will soon be buying an xps 15 4k version and I wanted to know what the black levels are like because I have been watching videos of the laptop and to me it almost looks like dell uses oled tech the blacks are that black!
But this can't be the case...

I received my Dell XPS 15 with a FHD display yesterday. Although the system runs very well, I've noticed that the screen has a slow response rate. It's likely one of the slowest I've encountered so far. Since I game lightly, this is very noticable when objects are moving and makes it very inconvenient. Is anyone else having the same issue or is aware of a fix? Due to this, I'm considering returning it.

We had some problems lately with the TB16 dock, unfortunately we are now running our XPS 9560 without the dock.
This means our display port that supported 3440 x 1440 60Hz is also gone.Our LG 34UC99 is now running over the HDMI port in the laptop itself.The maximum output resolution is 3440 x 1440 50hz.
It feels like there is some lag or 'judder' when the mouse moves.It's like the mouse is not exactly doing the thing you want it to do.
It is very hard to describe, but the difference is very strong with the 3440 x 1440 60Hz displayport.
The USB-C port (Thunderbolt 3) is connected with our QNAP NAS so we can not connect our screen that way.
Is there any solution to get the 60hz smoothness over HDMI?

I am frustrated and in the process of returning my XPS 15 9560. Reading the reviews I was expecting the 9560 to come with the Samsung SSD, one of the fastest SSDs available. But mine came with a much slower Toshiba SSD. I don't care about the actual brand, but the performance is very, very different between the two SSDs. When I look online at some benchmark data it appears that half the time people are getting the Samsung and half the time the Toshiba. Why? Half the people are getting a very fast SSD and the other are much slower. Very frustrated and annoyed. The two SSDs are clearly not equivalent.

I purchased my Dell XPS 15 9560 (i7, 32GB RAM, 512GB Samsung 960 Evo) laptop two months ago and there is one thing that is really frustrating. The fans are nearly always on.
It is enough to open a few Chrome tabs and YouTube video and after a few minutes fans kick in at the low speed (2500rpm). CPU temperatures are around 42C-45C. The only option to turn them off is to open Dell Command Power Management and switch between profiles (any of them). Unfortunately after a few minutes fans kick in again :/ With power cord plugged in it happens even faster and it is not possible to turn the fans off even by changing profile in Dell Command Power Management. There is no difference between profiles.
I also run a test with one external monitor and connected Dell U2414H using Thunderbolt port and original Dell USB-C do DisplayPort adapter (470-ACFC). Fans started spinning in less than 3 seconds after I connected the cable. It was not possible to turn them off even switching profiles in Dell Command Power Management. When I unpluged the cable, after a few seconds I was able to turn off the fans by switching profiles (and fans were off until I started browsing).
I have read other users claim their Dell XPS 9560 are "dead silent", with fans running only under load (for example when gaming) and I feel confused.

After receiving 3 different 9560's, I got a working one in April.  Yeah!  However, now the rubber foot on the bottom of laptop is coming out(from the middle).  Dell, in there infinite foolish behavior refuses to send me a new rubber foot.  I have premium support, paid a hefty price for computer, and this is the way they treat their customer.  Astonishing.  I will not pay my DFS account.  The shoe will be on the other foot.
