I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I went into my User Accouts in the Control Panel. I deleted a User called Nathon. I created a new user account with Admin authority named Jack.
However, everytime that I start my computer from my morning bootup, the Signon Window has the deleted User, Nathon.
I have to type in Jack, for the new user, and I get into Jacks Account.

Why is Windows not remembering that I have deleted the USER, Nathon?

I have never had such a problem with any of my other windows computers.

You have recently removed one or more virusus from this computer, but now a new one has appeared.

First, AOL is extremely slow to start when I click on the icon. Once I've signed on, after a time a new sign-on screen appears on top of what I'm doing. I cancel that one. Soon I see activity at the bottom of the screen (where ordinarily you see "Done" or "//http:/..." etc. The virus is doing its own AOL activity! Soon afterward AOL is canceled, as if I had canceled it.

Also, Microsoft XP suddenly announces they are having to increase my virtual memory. Paging size is currently at 384 Mb, and my RAM is 1.25 GB. This is happening more and more frequently.

I have again changed my AOL sign-on password, and I no longer permit it to use the password automatically (I have to enter it at each sign on).

Thanks for any help you can provide.

After having done the update, I'm having two issues that are bugging me:

1. I cannot change the lock screen from the "cave by the shore" default nor bypass it (Brink is working on the bypass issue I believe)

2. If I go into netplwiz and uncheck the need for a password, the "Welcome" screen has the system default user picture, that drawing of a circle over an arch, not the picture I assigned to the account. With the need for a password, the picture on both the sign-in screen and "Welcome" screen is correct tho.

The lock screen issue I can live with since I normally don't use a password, but the default user picture is bugging me. I went into %ProgramData%\Microsoft\User Account Pictures and replaced all the default pictures with ones the same name and size of the picture that I have for the account, but it still shows the default.

I've searched around for another place where the default picture is, but cannot find any, even with the search including hidden system files.

Anybody know where the system default user pictures are stored, other than in the User Account Pictures?

Hello TheSchaft,

Q1) I've added OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to be able to disable the lock screen again, but it doesn't do so at startup.

Lock Screen - Enable or Disable in Windows 10
Q2) I'm not aware of way to stop this yet when you have netplwiz set to automatically sign in to an account at startup. The blue note box at the top of the tutorial below will show you the default locations for account pictures to help.

So I just reinstalled Windows 10 on my machine.

Before I had it set up so that I could log in with a password or fingerprint.

Now it seems my only options are (1) password only OR (2) password, PIN or fingerprint.

I don't want PIN as a sign in option. But I have to enable PIN via "Windows Hello" before enabling Fingerprint sign in.

And once I have fingerprint sign in enabled, if I remove the PIN I lose both PIN and fingerprint sign in options.

Any ideas how I can set up password and fingerprint as my only two sign in options?

Hey everyone

Every now and then my Windows 8.1 x64 shows the first sign-in sequence after a restart. I noticed it most recently happened after a normal Start->Power Options->Restart. I'm quite sure it has also happened after right clicking on start button (Control-X) and restarting from there, as well as from a custom shortcut I have for restart (shutdown.exe /r /t 00).

I had just finished installing IBM SPSS 22 for a class I'm taking, but I think this is unrelated.
It goes through the whole "Setting Up Your PC" and "Installing your apps" screens even though its perfectly fine and and all my data including app data is still there. See the attached file for an example of what was most noticeably shown.

With another incident, something similar to this happened but it actually reset some of my settings for things like MediaMonkey, Connectify Hotspot, GOM Player and VLC player. It was like they had been started for the first time ever with no license information or preferences like Always on Top.

Its not a matter of urgency but I keep worrying that one day it will actually mess with my system in a very annoying way.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
Thanks

Before installing it said setting a restore point, trying to restore there are no restore points. How is this, thought the system (Vista home premium) automatically set restore points. This popup is messing the system up bigtime, almost impossible to load programs etc. as it constantly pops up and will not cancel.
Any clues on how I might get rid of this problem? Unable to find help on Microsoft sites.

My younger brother and I share a computer. It is Windows 10 Pro. I was letting him use it while i was asleep. All I know is that he was playing his video games. Anyways, he left the house to go hang out somewhere and i wake up to see that when i turn on the computer, only his account shows at the sign-in screen. Meanwhile, there are THREE accounts on this computer. My account, His account, and a local that my other siblings use sometimes. I restarted and even shut down my computer about 4 times. I waited until he came back and logged on his account to check what was wrong, and I see that my account is still there with all my files and docs. The other local account is there too. I log out to see if my User name is there but it isn't. I tried to see if my account was deactivated using these methods but none of them worked. I've looked on Microsoft's forums but all I found was how to activate the built-in administrator account. Please do your best to help!! I have important work to do on my account but i can't access it.

I Just had a log in error. I have a Dell Precision 7710 mobile work station with the Anniversary Update. I turned on the machine and tried to log in and got:

---------------
We can't sign into your account
This problem can often be fixed by signing out of your account, then signing back in. If you don't sign out now, any files that you create or changes that you make will be lost.
---------------

Logging out and restarting did not work. I shut it down, undocked (it is a Thunderbolt Cable Dock), and then restarted. Luckily it was back to normal log in. I shut down docked, and booted and it was normal log in again.
Not sure what happened. Hope the issue does not come back.

I read online this happened to others, but cannot find a cause or fix (other than restarting) and wondering if anyone knows why this happened.

thanks

I recently upgraded from Vista to 7 pretty uneventfully. Everything is pretty much working as before except for one, relatively minor but annoying issue. I have IE, currently IE8, set to go to my.msn.com as my home page. Before the upgrade, it would automatically sign me in, so I would see my customized home page. Since the upgrade I am taken to a generic page. I have to click the Sign In link on the upper right, and then the sign in button on the Welcome to Windows Live. My password is saved, so I don't have to fill in anything. I don't sign out when I am done, I just close the browser window as I always used to do. However, even if I immediately reopen the browser window, I will be signed out again.

Any thoughts on how to stay logged in as I used to do with Vista, and XP before that?

Thanks for the help.

Hi - I'm running Win 7 Pro on a Dell E5410 laptop.

Until quite recently I could insert the sign into files using the key combination Fn +Alt with characters 'jio' - which method was used to write this thread. This seemed to work in any document form e.g. doc or txt. It now no longer works in the doc format but does in others, so can be imported when needed quite easily. My question is - why does it no longer work in docs?

Hi! I found your site somehow and it seems like you are very capable of helping me out here...hopefully. Ok, about a week ago I got a trojan in my laptop and I also a couple of worms. My anti-virus(Mcafee)found them but it deleted the files that were infected. After that I tried to sign on to MSN but it won't work. It says that something is wrong with my connection, but it was working just fine before. I tried moving it to different phone jack but it still doesn't work. My computor that I have upstairs works just fine for signing in. It will connect but not sign on. I am pretty sure that all the trojans, viruses, etc. are off but there is still something wrong. I thought maybe one of the files deleted was for MSN, so I uninstalled MSN and reinstalled it back to see if it would replace the files. It didn't work. So I don't know what else to do. Can you please help me? Thanks.

P.S. I have Windows XP, just in case that is helpful. If you need anymore infor mation i will be happy to give you as much as needed. Thanks again!

Hello all,
I'll try to make this short. It's all about the sign in screen with multiple users.
Computer: Dell, ordered 1 yr ago, P4, 1.5 GB Mem, 80GB HD, 250 GB HD added (internal), Win XP Media Center 2005.
We have 5 users on our PC: Me, the Wife and the 3 kids.
Each person signs in with their user account.
Everything runs great, fast and nice.
SOMETIMES... and I mean sometimes... after someone logs out of their user session the computer will sit at the user sign in screen (or goes to screensaver if it sits for over 10 minutes) then when someone goes to sign in, they click on their name and/or the icon, the white text box for the password pops up but there is NO cursor flashing waiting for you to type in your password. When you click in the text box after it comes up you still do not get a cursor.
Doesn't happen all the time and cannot find a pattern.

I'm a Software Eng., former PC builder and keep our PC very clean. This is not a junked-up box.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks,
Pat in Nebraska

Uh, this has been like this for about 2 - 3 months now.
I've contacted the MSN Messenger support people but they've told me all these things and they haven't worked yet. So I decided to try here ^_^

My problem is as follows -

When I try to sign in on MSN Messenger, it doesn't sign me in. Instead it goes back to the MSN sign in program screen without any error message.
It's pretty weird because my main email account, it doesn't sign in. But if I try with another account that I never really use these days, it works.

I've tried -

> Uninstalling & reinstalling MSN.
> Deleting the files from the temporary files folder.
> Ran the search (Start > search) and looked for any files named SetupDl.exe and deleted them.
> Restarted after every uninstall.
> Uninstalled every MSN add on.
> Deleted any MSN/and add on folders in my Program Files folder.

My computer info -

> Using MSN Messenger 6.2
> Connecting from home Cable LAN.
> I don't have a firewall.

If you could help me in any way, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed with increasing frequency I am having trouble logging into my Windows 8.1 notebook. I try to sign in at the usual screen after boot and get the following message... "You can't sign in to your PC right now.
Go to account.live.com to fix the problem, or try the last password you used on this PC." The way it works is I get this message the first two times I try and the 3rd time it works (all using the same password that I have always used). My wife has a Surface
running 8.1 RT and she is getting the same issue. Anyone know what is going on?

A:You can't sign in to your PC right now.

Thanks Kate.  In my case, I don't login with a local account at all.  When I installed 8.1 I went with the Microsoft account only.  I don't think that article would apply.  Also, I think I have found the problem.  My notebook has
SSDs and boots up very quickly.  I notice this only happens when I enter the password immediately on boot.  I think I am entering it faster than the wireless has established a connection which is causing the disconnect.  If I wait even 10 seconds
longer it works.

I don't have a recovery disc or the installation disc either. (not my computer or house and they don't keep track of that stuff.) and of course I have to go and mess it up..

Help is greatly appreciated!

A:Cannot sign in

At the logon screen press Ctrl+Alt+Delete at the same time twice and now you will see Administrator as a possible account to boot into, chances are you will need a admin password though.

Good luck.

Trying to edit a .SAV by converting and opening it's xml, everything went fine and i modify the parts that needs to be done, so i convert the xml back to the .SAV type of file, but when i'm about to further editing (so i re-convert the .SAV file back to xml) i found out that the language or something is very different, i'm very new at modding a xml file so i don't know what to do. all the converting is done by using a cmd and an application that utilize on converting .SAV format to XML which i can edit with note editor.
here's a picture of first convert and second convert.

Hello, new guy here. Maybe someone can help me with this.

There are two computers in my house, both are connected to the same wireless router and DSL modem, one via a LAN cable, the other with a wireless USB hub.

I have two AIM screen names. I can sign into AIM on both computers with my less frequently used screen name. I can sign into the wired computer using my primary screen name, but I cannot sign into the wirelessly connected computer using my primary screen name.

When I type in my username and password and hit enter, it says "Connecting...", then "Transferring..." then "Connection failed."

I have tried to fix the problem using aol live help and I have exhausted all options they have given me there, including:

-checking the clock settings
-restoring the internet explorer settings to default
-turning off the windows firewall and testing it
-emptying the browser cache
-uninstalling and reinstalling aim, I did that twice, I'm using version 6.8.14.6
-trying again later

Nothing has worked yet. Any ideas would be helpful.

A:can't sign into aim

Anybody?

How can I get rid of the dialog box cdm.exe and return back to my home screen? thx

A:cdm.exe box comes up when i sign on

Is that cdm.exe or CMD.exe, and a box with a black background?

If it's cmd.exe, is it just a small box over your desktop, or does what's behind it say "Safe Mode" in the corners?

What's the message in the box?

Hi,

I can't sign in the Windows Live Messenger, it tries for a long time but then comes up with the "We Can't Sign You in to Windows Live Messenger" message, the error code is: 81000306.

The rest of my internet is working fine and i'm confused as when I troubleshoot it ticks everything apart from Wireless which is strange as I AM on wireless (living in student halls).

I went to tools>options>connection and it says that I am not connected to the .NET messenger service and that I am connected to the internet through a wired network connection ??
