Ideapad 710S Plus Touch-13IKB m.2 SSD sata drive support?

Q: Ideapad 710S Plus Touch-13IKB m.2 SSD sata drive support?

It comes with a Samung pm961 ssd that uses pcie. I tried to install an Adata su800 m.2 sata but the laptop can't seem to identify the drive. I already upgraded to the lastest 2.52 bios and see there is a option for ahci sata. So I'm a bit confused and wondering if this model actually supports m.2 sata drive. If not what does the sata option in bios do?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

TLDR: can you tell me if my chipset supports AHCI? I have Windows 10 installed on my brand-new 710S, and I want to install a linux distro (Ubuntu or Mint) as a dual boot. The problem I ran into is that when live booting Ubuntu or Mint from USB, the installer doesn't detect my SSD drive. It just says "Not enough space on this drive" referring to the USB drive. I've done a good amount of research and I think the problem is that RAID is currently enabled on my SATA controller driver, and I guess Linux doesn't play nice with RAID. Most of the advice online says that i need to go into UEFI firmware (i.e., BIOS) and switch from RAID to AHCI (and probably re-install windows, or do some other magic handwaving to avoid trouble), but my UEFI firmware menu doesn't even have an option to switch between RAID and AHCI. Digging deeper, I started to suspect that my chipset isn't able to support AHCI at all. The problem is I am having trouble determining if this is the case or not. SO MY QUESTION: how do I find out? Here is everything I know: Secure boot and fast boot are turned off. UEFI is still enabled. I am ahead of the curve on that. I have done dual boots before on other machines. - Harddrive is M.2 SSD- In the Windows Device Manager, there is no IDE ATA/ATAPI controller dropdown.- There IS a Storage Controllers dropdown, and underneath there is "Intel Chipset SATA RAID Controller" and "Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller" - Windows does not provide a ... Hello everyone, I have recently purchased brand new Lenovo IdeaPad 710S-13IKB. It had Windows preinstalled. The problem is that there is no sound from the speakers, headset works fine. I have tried everything, even reinstalling Windows. Downloaded both drivers via Realtek, Lenovo official website, via Windows Device Manager. When something plays, the speakers indicator shows as on 'sound' screenshot attached. I am really lost here, can anyone please give soem advise. I read on some forums that there might be some conflict between Microsoft and Realtek driver versions. Perhaps, the directory to where the drivers are isntalled is not proper. Does anyone has any advice on this issue. I am ready for a remote session via TeamViewer or Supremo if possible as well. Best Regards, Dmitri

As stated in the subject, when I got my new laptop and went through all the updates and finally returned to it, it had caused my fingerprint sensor to no longer work. When inspected through Device Manager, it throws Error Code 31: it states that the driver is up-to-date but Windows has failed to load the driver properly. With either restarting, removing and updating drivers, or reinstalling windows, I have failed to develop a manner of fixing this. Any help would be lovely. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I've read about some issue with yoga 710 fan noise that was recently fixed with a BIOS update. Is there an update for ideapad 710s-13IKB on the way? The unofficial third-party fan controller software doesn't work, perhaps because this laptop has two fans. Just installing some software for example causes the i5-7200u CPU to overclock to over 3GHz  which seems unnecessary. Limiting the CPU max clock to 70% from power management settings helps but is an ugly fix because it's a constant limit. When the temperature is +40C the left side fan stays on.... +39 and below the fan seems to shut down, but doesn't happen unless I let the computer idle for a long time. The fan control seems to jump every 10 degrees. +70C and above is the highest level. Because of the over-eager turbo clock the laptop can reach +70C very quickly and go into full fan power when doing low-intensity tasks. It does this every time I power on, and it takes a minute to lower the clock and fans down to reasonable levels. I noticed the fan issue straight away when I installed the W10 anniversary update. CPU/fan issue could be linked to high hard drive activity also. Also, the Lenovo Battery Gauge doesn't appear no matter how many times I try to enable it. It just doesn't want to show up on the task bar. Is it a seperate issue or are these two related?

I just bought my 710S plus-13IKB ideapad laptop four days ago and have been facing some freezing issues while watching youtube but it's usually fine once I refresh the browser or close Chrome entirely so I didnt mind them. But just now (like 30 mins ago) it froze and nothing I click or press could work and the screen hasn't unfreeze since then. Im not good with tech stuff so I tried ctrl+alr+del and the novo bios button but both didnt work. Also to be frank, opening applications like folders etc tends to lag a little (or being a bit slow). Not sure if this is a Lenovo issue or Windows 10 issue. Please kindly advise what action I should take. It's really disappointing to see a new laptop being like this. ):

Hi community, I've got Lenovo 710S Plus recently. I read about erratic fan control and I don't know if the problem has been solved, that's it? Unless fixed, I found and issue about BIOS version, explain it: BIOS v2.52 release date: 2017-6-22BIOS v2.03 release date: 2017-6-29 That's erratic versioning name? What's the latest?~~~ [Developers only]Now, about fan control issue, I think is provocated by bad BIOS configuration because this can be fixed overriding registers in charge of fan speed and processor temperature management. Somebody has source code in order to fix it? Thanks and forgive my English level.

Hi Everyone, Hello Lenovo, I bought this laptop recently, and I was satisfied so far until i decided to play a game. I bought this one because it has a discrete graphics for a lightweight gaming. But after about 10 mins of playing any kind of 3D game (Dota, CSGO, CoH, even Telltale games) fps drops start to occur - graphics settings in the game doesnt matter (low vs high - hd vs fhd .. still the same shuttering, fps droping). After some googling and testing via gpuz i discovered that there is thermal cap at 61-62C and if the card reaches this temp, it will start downclocking - After 10 mins of playing, GPU clocked itself at somewhere around 650Mhz (default clocks are around 950MHz), reason of throttle: thermal - via gpuZ. I tried using a cooling pad, but it doesnt seem to help much. Via Nvidia Inspector: there is a thermal limit set to 61C, but u cannot modify this setting, then in the other two states of a card (i think those are the states, that are triggered by the thermal limit) there are clocks set to 405MHz - neither these are modifiable, so i think, that after some more gpu usage, it would continue dropping to 405MHz.   I have tried:I have installed the newest nvidia drivers. There is no problem with power management settings (been set to max via windows power plan manager).I have also tried every power management settings in nvidia control panel (max power, adaptive etc,) - no positive results. I dont even think i got a defecti... If I plug in power cable, no one led is on, and also nothing happens. I cannot turn it on...  The charger should be ok, at least, the voltage inside of laptop is ok. I tried several workarounds for "power led is on,  but laptop wont turn on", but nothing helped. What else could I try before sending it to the service?

Less than a month ago I bought a brand new Lenovo Ideapad 710s, today it suddenly turned off even though it's battery was at 64%. I then plugged in the charger and tried turning it on - nothing happened. Then I held down the power button at it turned on. Only to turn off again after about 15 minutes. Now, it won't turn on at all.If I hold down the power button, the light behind the keyboard blinks, but the screen stays black. When I plug in the charger, the light that shows it is charging is on, so the charger is working.I just can't turn on my computer at all. I don't know if this information is needed, but I have used it almost every day, around 6 hours every day I've used it (I'm using it for school only). Hi - the current version of the ideapad 710s BIOS does not allow changing of the SATA/drive mode from RAID to AHCI. As a result, it is pretty much impossible to install Linux onto these systems. I've tried multiple combinations of things - completely wiped the drive, disabled UEFI, Secure Boot and enabled Legacy mode, etc - and nothing works.  The currently locked SATA mode basically prevents Linux from even seeing the SSD.  I've tried the latest versions of Ubuntu and Gentoo - both with the same result. Is there any reason why this setting is not exposed?  Are there any plans to expose it?

Few years back we bought a Lenovo IdeaPad S510P.  The hard drive failed and I had to get a new one for it.  Problem is I didn't make backup disk for the computer and I can't remember but don't think we got windows disk with it.  If we did we've misplaced them.  How do I go about getting this new hardrive formatted and the computer up and running again?  Will Lenovo allow me to download a replacement if I suppy serial number?  Will they mail me disk?  It came with windows 8.  If I do get that am I able to switch to 7 or 10 at no cost?  I'm also unclear on how this would be done.  I'm assuming if downloading I would have to make some kind of bootable thumb drive?  Any suggestions and links that would be helpful would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance

Hi rbboom,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

WIth an active warranty  then calling technical support would definitely send you some recovery disc or bootable drive. You can also check using your serial number here if your machine qualifies for the free recovery media download.

If you availed of the free upgrade from Microsoft from Win 8 to Win 10 or your machine have a Windows 7 downgrade rights from the original purchase then you can switch to that version at no cost else you have to purchase a product key from Microsoft.

A clean WIndows 8 image is free here to download and it would automatically activate as long as you use the same version of Windows that came with your machine. Drivers are also free here on the support website.

I hope this helps answer your query.
Update us how it goes best for you.

Regards

A:Support 3TB Sata III 6/GB hard drive

Greetings, Your PC is circa 2011. I would not upgrade to Win 10. Your PC does not have UEFI BIOS.  Win 7 will not see  or be able to access 3TB as an MBR install is limited to 2TB. You need GPT disk partitioning which is only available on a UEFI BIOS system. You can add a second HDD as you have four SATA ports. Two SATA ports should be available unless you have other HDD's now. Use the second HDD for data. You can also install programs on the second HDD. This does add some complexity if you have to do an HP recovery for some reason. Transfer the large data files to an external USB drive. Large program files cannot be moved from their current location. you would have to uninstall and then reinstall those programs using the second HDD as the installation destination. Jay

I live in Toronto, Canada. I bought Lenovo Ideapad 710S (i5-6200 128GB SSD 8GB Ram) in August 2016. Used only 2 weeks, the laptop couldn't recognized the hard drive. It was sent to MIAD (local Lenovo certified repair center) and diagnosed as hard drive dysfunction. The technician told me since it is a "consumer" laptop (vs. business laptop such as ThinkPad), they don't have the part to repair/replace. I waited 4 weeks until the new hard drive arrive and the laptop was still not working. MIAD told me it was not hard drive problem and beyond their ability to repair. The laptop was later sent to Lenovo repair center (US).A week later I got a notice from Lenovo said the laptop had arrived but the part they need is in back order.5 weeks later still no sign of getting the problem fixed. Contacted Lenovo and get the same answer. Only compensate so far is extension of my warranty for 2 months. However, no compensation about the usability. For about 10 weeks, I have to use my old Pentium M Thinkpad. If I bought a new laptop, it might already arrived! Conclusion: Don't buy Lenovo "consumer" laptop (Ideapad, Yoga etc), at least in Canada.

If you just formatted the C:\ partition, you should still be able to recover using the NOVO button (see page 21 of the user manual) Novo Menu: ? Shut down the computer (press and hold the power button until it powers off) and wait at least five seconds.Press the Novo button using a paper clip.   The NOVO button is just forward of the USB port on the left side of the laptop (see page 6 of the user manual) to turn on the laptop and open the Novo MenuSelect System Recovery >> Troubleshoot >> Reset this PCIf successful, it will return your laptop to the factory condition just as it was when you bought the laptop. If you somehow deleted all the partitions, then you will have to do a clean install of Windows 10 either using recovery media obtained from Lenovo support for a small fee (recommended since it will restore its factory recovery/driver partitions etc.), or do a clean install of Windows 10 using the instructions from Microsoft found here. Good Luck,

Hi,  My Ideapad 710s which is only like 8 months old is currently with Lenovo for a warranty repair.  The comma key became loose and fell off the keyboard, the little clips on the back were broken so I was wasn't able to clip it back on.  I sent it to Lenovo under my 3 year warranty and now they are refusing to fix it under the warranty.  What can I do about this?  Why would anyone break their comma key on purpose? The rest of the laptop is in perfect condition so it is clear that I have not abused the laptop, every other key is absolutely fine.  Seeing that it was simply a matter of clipping a new key on, I asked Lenovo to just post me one out and I would do it myself. They refused, and made me send it in. I did this, and now they are going to try and charge me for the postage which I didn't want to pay for anyway because the repair was so minor!!!  This will be the last Lenovo product I ever buy if they are so petty and treat their customers so badly over such a small repair that any reasonable person can see is a manufacturing fault.  I am furious about this, and hopefully you guys can give some advice.  Thanks

I am trying to run games on my 710s with the i5 6260U and Intel Iris 540 graphics, with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD.The nature of the video card in this laptop showed promise for casual playing of current titles at low settings, however early results were dissapointing. Upon installing Throttlestop and Intel XTU in order to undervolt the package and squeeze more performance, my surprise was high upon finding that the package consumed no more than 10W at very low temperatures with the fan barely spinning, all while running Doom 2016 at 720P Low settings at 20FPS.Changing power use settings in the Intel Graphics control panel and in the Windows power use utility raised the FPS to 30 and the power use to around 13-14W, but the temperatures barely reach 60C and the fans aren't even spinning at full blast, and actually turn on and off all the time while running the game. Eventually the power consumption stabilizes at 13W, and Throttlestop states that it's due to a TDP limit. Is there a way of increasing this limit in order to attain the full performance of the laptop?

I bought ideapad 710S after research and survey, but the performance of 710s is really disappointing. The computer has strange problem and unstable performance. After my first week, I sent it to the maintanence center. Lenovo maintenance center was nice enough to change the mainboard for me. However, after 3 weeks of using, the problems reoccured again. the computer has slow processing capability.  I use simple word program and my typing does not show on the screen simultanously, instead there is the waiting cycle icon keeps apperaing. Plus, there seem to be extreme heat release problem with lound fan noise. I returned to the maintenance center and after that 3 weeks, the shop replaced ROM and heat fan.
When I got home, I started working on the document and recognize heat problem is gone. However, the delay processing problem remains. I have a problem getting my work done with this 710S because everything delays. By everything I mean my typed sentence delays by more than 10 seconds, my access to internet website consumes more than 30 seconds, program opening takes almost 1 minute. I feel disappointed, frustrated and mad with the quality of ideapad. I was a fan of thinkpad and this wiped off and torn down my believe of lenovo brand.
