I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone, I?m excited to share the news that we?re rolling out our next build update to the ?Fast? ring of the Windows Insider Program ? Build 9879! Once again this build has a ton of changes, some noteworthy new features, and a few gotchas to be aware of. It also has a number of things that YOU have influenced directly with your problem reports and suggestions. Thanks!

Getting started:

If you are new to the Windows Insider Program you may want to check out my post here from last month since this post is using some terms and concepts I first shared there. (e.g. our ?ring progression? model.)
Just like last time, this new build will come to you automatically via Windows Update, installed during your maintenance window if your PC is plugged in and on or sleeping.
If you don?t want to wait for it to download and install on its own ? you can go to PC Settings, Update and recovery, Preview builds and click the Check Now button to go get it now.
If you?re currently in the Fast ring, the build is available now. If you?re in the Slow ring, you won?t receive the build right away ? we?ll publish to Slow after we see how everything goes with the Fast ring.
This is a full build, and it will be installed as an in-place upgrade, so you?ll go through those colorful ?installing your apps? screens again. This is because your account is being re-provisioned after the upgrade.

Am I the only one who expects problem when installing the Intel HD Graphics driver? It seems they're not recognizing the operating system.

The Intel Utility Updater doesn't help as it shows me an older version of the driver than the one that I'm using.

The drivers got by MS update work, though. But the Intel Graphics driver isn't updated since August.

Hi everyone,
Before heading off for the holidays I wanted to give a little bit of an update on how things are shaping up for Windows 10, especially since we don?t have a build for you this month. I know that some of you are disappointed that we didn?t release another build (though we know some of them escaped?.I?m looking at you 9888 & 9901?)* but now that we?ve announced our event on January 21st I can finally explain why we didn?t. We?ve been very hard at work putting together a great build for you that includes a bunch of new features and improvements. As all of those payloads came in we needed to stabilize code, fix any integration issues, and ensure all of the new UX is polished. We?re really focused on making the next build something that we hope you?ll think is awesome. In fact, just so that we have a *daily* reminder to ourselves that we want this build to be great, we even named our build branch FBL_AWESOME. Yeah, it?s a bit corny, but trust me that every Dev that checks in their code and sees that branch name gets an immediate reminder of our goal. We?re super excited to show you what we?ve been up to! Look for a follow-up blog post from us on where to tune-in to the live webcast on January 21st.

Microsoft Kill Switch for Windows 10 Insider versions - gHacks Tech News

Microsoft revealed yesterday that it will kill old Windows 10 Insider versions that are expired so that devices won't boot killed builds anymore.

The company's Insider program is designed to give users and companies a chance to test new builds of the Windows 10 operating system before they become available on the stable channel, and to provide Microsoft with data that it can use to fix or modify features.

Insiders can upgrade to the next build whenever it becomes available. All Insider Builds have an expiration date associated with them after which the copy expires.

The concept is not entirely new though. Last year, Microsoft announced that it would block old Windows Insider versions from booting.

Microsoft handles the expiration of licenses differently on retail versions of Windows. This involves usually a black desktop background, a notification, and reboots every hour.

This does not mean that the operating system cannot be used anymore though. Microsoft plans to change that however.

Microsoft's Windows 10 Kill Switch

Microsoft won't kill Windows 10 Insider Builds the moment they expire. The company will use a tiered approach for that to give users and administrators ample time to upgrade to a new version of Windows 10.

The process has the following steps:

This will go a long way in the fight to curb pirating of the insider builds too.
Now that it is a paid OS I have run into advertisements for unlocked insider builds,
MS is obviously aware of this too. Its a good tactic.
An OS rebooting every hour would drive me nuts lol

Windows Insider Program: Frequently Asked Questions

The Windows Insider Program has been in full swing for almost a year now with countless Insiders helping shape Windows 10 as you see it today. Windows 10 is an ever-evolving operating system that relies heavily on Insiders' feedback to help shape the way it will evolve for the better. Below are some frequently asked questions about the Insider Program.

1: WHAT IS THE INSIDER PROGRAM?
The Windows 10 Insider Program offers Windows users access to Insider Preview builds of Windows 10. Preview builds are effectively beta releases with the sole aim being for Insiders to test the build for stability, bugs, compatibility and general performance prior to the build being released to the general public.

As should be expected with beta software, Insider Preview builds can cause compatibility issues with programs (including anti virus software), drivers or hardware, damage or loss of data and network connectivity issues. With this in mind it would be advisable to not use your daily PC with an Insider build as your main operating system, but consider setting up a dual boot with your existing installation of Windows 7/8/8.1, creating a virtual machine or install on a completely separate system for testing purposes. It is also recommended to back up all of your data prior to setting up a dual boot.

The Insider Program is recommended if you:

Fully one month after its previous release, Microsoft has finally provided a refreshed new build of Windows 10 Mobile to Windows Insiders on the Fast ring. But build 10549 offers yet another complexity for testers to wrestle with: With this build, you have to upgrade from Windows Phone 8.1. That means wiping out any phones that are already using previous Insider Preview builds.

Yep. That?s the sound you hear. wa-waa-waaahhhh.

Why this draconian step? According to Microsoft, which it discovered a bug late last night?yep, last night?that caused phones upgrading from build 10536 to get stuck at a black screen after the new build is installed. So rather than make you wait even longer, Microsoft decided to release this build as a single update from Windows Phone 8.1 only.

The good news: If you decide to stick with build 10536, you can just wait a bit?hey, what?s a month between friends??and upgrade to the next Fast Ring build instead.

?We know having to go back to Windows Phone 8.1 to get this new build is a bit of work,? Microsoft explains. ?By doing so you are also helping us test the upgrade path that millions of Windows Phone 8.1 customers will take to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, so we appreciate the adventurous Insiders who choose to go this route and give us feedback.?

LOL. Whatever.

Here?s what?s new in this build:

Cortana improvements. Cortana now works for users in Japan and for English speakers in Australia and Canada. You can find out more here.

After rolling out Windows 10 Insider Preview build 14366 to the Fast and Slow Rings nearly two weeks ago, Microsoft has now released ISOs for Slow Ring users. The build includes a number of fixes and improvements comprised of updates to the size of the Windows Ink Workspace icon, Mobile Hotspot settings page, and Cortana search results, among others.

As with Insider Preview build 14342, Microsoft has made the ISOs available just two weeks afterrolling out the build to Fast Ring users.

Five versions of the ISOs are available:

Windows 10 Insider Preview - Build 14366
Windows 10 Insider Preview Enterprise - Build 14366
Windows 10 Insider Preview Education - Build 14366
Windows 10 Insider Preview Home Single Language - Build 14366
Windows 10 Insider Preview Home China - Build 14366
The ISOs are available in various languages, depending on the version you choose. It is also interesting to note that ISOs for build 14342 are still available for users.

As always, Microsoft's release notes also point out that "you will need to install the Windows 10 Insider Preview build on a device that has been previously activated with Windows 10 or with a Windows 10 product key." You can find further details about that here.

For those willing to try out newer builds, Microsoft has already released build 14372 to Fast Ring Insiders on both PC and Mobile.

Last week, Microsoft released Windows 10 Insider Preview build 14931 for PCs - but it also announced that it was holding off on a new Mobile build from the Redstone 2 branch as it needed more time to fix two major issues that had popped up in build 14926, which was released a week earlier.

Today, Microsoft announced the rollout of Windows 10 Insider Preview build 14936 for both PCs and phones, so those mobile issues have now been resolved.

As part of the announcement, Microsoft's Dona Sarkar shared a reminder regarding the upcoming expiration of some older Insider Preview builds:

Since September 15th, PCs running really old Insider Preview builds started to see build expiration notifications once a day. Starting on October 1st, these PCs will start rebooting every 3 hours and then on October 15th ? these PCs will stop booting all together. If your PC is running one of these old Insider Preview builds, please make sureyou update to the latest build available via Settings > Update & security > Windows Update. Build 14926 and newer has an updated expiration date of May 1st, 2017. If your PC is running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (Build 14393) in the Slow and Release Preview rings today ? this does not apply to you and you will not be notified of your build expiring.

The new build is available now to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring - be sure to let us know how you get on with them.

Windows 10: Windows Insider Program participants can upgrade to the RTM build next year

Quote:

Offering the latest build of Windows 10, Microsoft's upcoming operating system that is set to launch in 2015, via a special Windows Insider Program to eager beta testers is a new move on Microsoft's part, in the hopes of obtaining as much feedback as possible. With a simple click of a button, you can check for a newer build and download/install it for evaluation purposes. This allows you to be on top of the developmental process and give testers the chance to tinker with the latest improvements and features.

Microsoft has already outlined a roadmap for Windows 10's release, which is set to happen sometime between late summer or early fall of next year. But one question has come up regarding these preview builds. Will Microsoft allow testers the ability to upgrade a preview build to the RTM (final) version of Windows 10 once it becomes available? The answer is yes.

Hello Pkshadow Welcome to the Ten Forums!

The prompting you are seeing is most likely to get you to notice and install updates that have been accumulating. Otherwise that is a strange one. You might have to sign into an MS account if you already had one setup in order to see that account's information updated on the change from Insider to Anniversary. That would then see everything synced properly.

Maybe a stupid question, but how is one's W10 licence activation affected by the Windows Insider program? Do the Insider builds use the existing licence? Is it possible to go back to the public release build cycle without a clean install?

A:Insider Program and Licence Activation?

The license is unaffected - the existing license is used.

If you want to go back to the public release cycle you have the following options:

Restore back to the backup you made before joining insider program (you really should make one).Revert to previous build (as long as you have only upgraded once). Windows 10 - Go Back to Previous Windows - Windows 10 ForumsClean install public build (10586 currently).Wait until Anniversary edition. At this point the insider and public cycles become synchronised again and you can simply leave the program. At least this happened the last 2 times for 10240 and 10586. A week or so before the public release the insiders got the (exact same) build. You can tell when this happens as the watermark disappears.

Hey guys. Before Windows 10 was released, I joined the Insider Program and upgraded to the Windows 10 Insider beta, or whatever they called it. That was around May. I had just built a new PC with an activated version of Windows 7, and I thought I should just go ahead and upgrade to the beta before I got too invested so I wouldn't risk screwing everything up after I had everything installed.

So now in December, I'm getting sick of all of these major updates, and I'd like to just opt out of the Insider program and use the normal release version. But it won't let me permanently leave. I go to the Advanced Options in Windows Update settings, and choose "Stop Insider Preview builds," and it gives me choices of times to turn it back on. When I click the link that says "Stop receiving Insider Preview builds" to permanently stop, it just takes me to some web page explaining how to do what I just did, and it won't let me opt out.

Just to clarify, I'm now on build 11082, and I did upgrade this from an activated install of Windows 7. It's not like I did a clean install from an ISO and I'm after a free key or anything. I'm really hoping I don't have to reinstall Win7 and upgrade to the normal version.

A:Can't leave Insider Program Build 11082

You're going to have to re-install a release build, such as the November update. Since you've already successfully upgraded, you can reinstall clean and it will automatically activate, just skip any requests for entering a key.

The answer is, of course and quite clearly a big NO. You cannot get Windows 10 free to your new computer. It is and has not been free since Windows 10 was released on 29th of July 2015.

Microsoft has all the time been and still is quite clear with this:

Users who installed Windows 10 Technical Preview on their computers before the launch last July and will remain in Windows Insider program will have a legal, valid and activated Windows 10 as long as their device remains functional, and are able to upgrade it to any future builds of Windows 10 Insider Preview

After the July 29th 2015 users have had and will have two ways to get Windows 10:
If a user has a valid, licensed and activated Windows 7 or 8 on a PC, that PC can be upgraded to Windows 10 for free until 29th of July 2016If a user has any other operating operating system than Windows 7 or 8, or if a user gets a new PC without operating system, or if a user will upgrade Windows 7 or 8 after the Jul... I used to have windows 10 Insider Preview running on a separate partition on my laptop, until recently.
I had a choice at boot-up as to which operating system I wanted, either the Insider or my regular Windows 10 Pro, then, all of a sudden the choices were not there. I just couldn't get into the Insider system.
I thought that if I deleted the system I would be able to download a fresh installation, but, I just can't find an installation that will load. I keep getting the error message "winload.exe has expired" and there is nothing I can do to get my Insider programme to load and work.
Please, please, has anybody got any ideas as to what I can do next, I still want to be a member of the Insider programme, but can't download a loadable replacement.

Waiting with fingers crossed

Hi

I have Version 1511 (OS build 14295.1000) installed and there does seem to be a problem at least on my PC. Whenever I shutdown I always get the message to click cancel to return to save my data whether I have any data to save or not. That is the first thing. The next is that it says to click Cancel to return to save the data but immediately I do it carries on shutting down or restarting.

Currently I have no way of communicating this (or any other problem I come across) to Microsoft. I understand that I ought to be able to use either Insider Hub or Windows Feedback but I have access to neither. I have just finished reinstalling the same version again as others have said this has worked for them - no joy for me though.

So my question is: how am I supposed to get bug reports back to Microsoft? Can anyone give me any idea why I may not have these apps on my PC? If I'm supposed to have them how can I install them? Finally, is there any other way of submitting bug reports to MS? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Another day, another week and finally another leak build from Wzor yes this is dubbed 10102 and has wiped my mind I am so amazed at how far this Build has gone through and as I say this yes it is a bit new. Also the build 10105, 10107 and 10108 remain imminent. So WZOR might have some leaked builds ready for tomorrow or in the next few days. Yes 10102 are now available: https://mega.co.nz/#!6F9hlZSS!wBjS3plB1Lj7pkACPfnSHtawe2X7sS41TcZGrK9Cijg

My computer installed this update (Windows 10 Insider Preview 14965) back around the middle of November and I have noticed two things. First -- Microsoft Edge took it upon itself to reinstate itself as my "Default Browser" and secondly now I keep having issues when navigating the internet. Basically I will click a link and the browser will pretend like it's going to go but then tell me it can't find the page so I just hit refresh and ta-da the page is there. It happens on any website (whether Amazon, Google, Microsoft, etc) and in Edge, Chrome and IE.

Anyone else having this type of issue? I also play games that rely on the internet and I haven't had any issues when them nor do I have any issues pinging websites even when I let ping run for 20 to 30 minutes while I'm browsing the web and experience the issue. I'm tempted to uninstall the update but if others updated and aren't seeing the issue then I may just have a weird DNS issue going on.

Thoughts?

Since your using a beta test operating system, its probably a bug. The current version of W10 is 1607 Build 14393.447. It doesn't have the problems you describe. Did you report this issue with Microsoft ?

Hi everyone, we?re hard at work on the next builds that we?ll send out to you for PC and Mobile. I don?t have an update on timing for that quite yet, but I do have some important changes to tell you about that are coming with the next PC build as we get ready for July 29th.

Microsoft Account notifications

If you don?t have your Microsoft Account (MSA) connected to your PC, starting in the next build you?ll start seeing notifications asking you to do so. You?ll need to connect the MSA that you registered for the Windows Insider Program with (and accepted the ?Microsoft Windows Insider Program Agreement?) in order to continue receiving new Windows 10 Insider Preview builds (both Fast and Slow rings) from Windows Update. If you already have your MSA connected to your account on your PC, then you?re all set. We?re introducing new infrastructure in Windows Update to help us deliver new builds more effectively to Windows Insiders, and ensure that we?re flighting builds to people who have registered and opted in to the program. Connecting your MSA also allows seamless access to Windows Insider-only functionality in the Windows Feedback app and Insider Hub too.

This change is for the Windows Insider Program ONLY, and is specific to how we?re delivering the Insider Preview builds. Once available on July 29th, you do not need an MSA to upgrade Windows 10 on your Windows 7 or Windows 8.1... Read more

With a nod and a wink, Microsoft gives away Windows 10 to anyone who asks

In the always confusing world of Microsoft licensing, there are two sets of rules.

One is written down in license agreements, drafted by Microsoft's large legal team, with separate terms for PC makers and end users. These combined terms are extremely specific about the rights and responsibilities of every party to the license agreement. They are aimed primarily at Microsoft's commercial customers and its PC-building partners, who account for more than 98 percent of all revenue from Windows desktop licenses.

The other set of rules is unwritten, for the most part. But its terms are fairly easy to deduce. They are intended for hobbyists, enthusiasts, and IT pros who like to tinker with Windows and PC hardware. Microsoft's TechNet program was a long-running gift to this group, offering thousands of dollars' worth of Microsoft software for a few hundred bucks.

The Windows Insider program is being run in that same spirit.

Hi. I am currently running windows 10 Pro version 1511 OS build 10586.164. Several days ago I decided to turn on insider builds fast lane. On the update screen, advanced options it does show "you are all set to receive preview builds". So far I haven't received any preview builds. I did receive several windows 10 updates on March 23 however. Is there something I am missing or can it take over a week for the process to start?

Last week, after Microsoft released Windows 10 to the world on 29 July, I took a closer look at what Insiders would need to do so they can receive early access to updates for Windows 10 post release.

Although the process did work to enroll/dis-enroll using the Settings>Update & security>Advanced Options>Get Insider build options full enrollment was not possible because Microsoft had not flipped the right switch to turn enrollment back on from their end.

It appears that Microsoft did just that yesterday and now the process I detailed last week will work to opt your system in so that it receives updates and new builds before they are released to the general public on Windows 10.

New Windows 10 preview builds on the way -- time to opt back into Insider updates!

It's now a week since the launch of Windows 10, and if you've missed looking out for the release of new preview builds there's some good news for you. Microsoft disabled preview builds in the immediate run-up to the release of Windows 10, but now you can opt back in.

What does this mean? Now that Windows Insiders have the option of accessing updates from the Fast and Slow rings once again, it's safe to assume that new preview builds are on the way. With the widely-held belief that Windows 10 Service Release 1 is imminent, this is perhaps not entirely surprising -- we may even get a glimpse of Windows 10s first major update.

My insider build 10525 (as shown by winver) expires on 7/15/2016. What does this mean? Will I need to buy a license for $199 or whatever at that time?
