Preferred Solution: Format(Date, "Medium Date")

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm a professional photographer and have recently begun shooting with two cameras simultaneously at events. They use different file names to avoid duplicate names/confusion, i.e. IMG_175000 and XMG_175000. Often times I'll take a photo with one camera and then take a photo immediately after it with the other camera and I'd like both of these images to be organized in the same subfolder and shown sequentially, but by default Windows Explorer lists all the "XMG_######" photos at the end and the IMG_###### photos at the beginning. I can manually sort each individual folder by going to "Sort by - Date" or even better, selecting "Sort by - More... and putting a check mark next to "Date Taken" so that it shows up in the Sort options (which it doesn't automatically) and then sorting by Date Taken, but since I'm dealing with hundreds of subfolders with hundreds of thousands of photo and video files I'd like a way to do this for all the files in these subfolders that isn't manual.

Is there a way to make Windows Explorer automatically arrange every file (both image and movie files) inside the various subfolders inside one root folder by Date or Date Taken instead of automatically always sorting them by name?

Thanks in advance!

A:Making files in subfolders sort by "Date" or "Date Taken" by default?

Hello XMGING, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you could set a folder how you like it, then use the method in the tutorial below to apply it to all folders that use the same folder template.

I think what happened. Sunday night began a manual backup by trying to select entire My Docs and copy to laptop DVD R/W drive disk. Computer said it would take 2 days so 35 mins in I cancelled. It said there was a large set of temp files and I could retain or remove, I removed.

Went to bed.

Next day 11:04 am ran a malware prgm called CacheCleaner. Have run it 1000+ times and no issue this time.

Few days later go to access Quicken - no can do. File is damaged. Went to open my budget file in excel, says" file is in a different format than specified by the file extension. ..." Open it anyways, its completely empty. Go to open a MS word doc, cannot open, says there are problems with the contents. PDF problems too.

Every file has been mysteriously updated Date Modified to 1/4/2010 11:04am. None will open. Any file not dated 1/4/2010 11:04am opens fine.

Was there some temp pointer type file created during my aborted backup operation that was then deleted when I emptied my temp files etc when I ran Cache Cleaner.
This is horribly impactful b/c my last backup is old. Please help if you can.....

I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm using Outlook 2003. I'm designing a new Contacts screen, which better suits the needs of my business.

I have been able to figure out how to everything except for this:

How to I design the "date" and "dollar amount" field values to default to blank/empty instead of defaulting to the word "None" in the case of the "date" field and "$0.00" in the case of the "dollar amount" field?

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!

Hi. I'm thinking about repairing Windows 7Home Premium 32bit with the DVD, because of BSOD, but I hesitate.

I first need to know if the backup folder called "Windows.old" will be a COPY (keeps Date Modified but updates Date Created) or a CUT (simply moves all folders to an other, thus doesn't change Date Created). Thanks!
So of course, only those who have ever reinstalled Windows 7 may know the answer. If you don't know but have reinstalled Windows 7 at least once, please spare 30 seconds to check, simply find a file like a picture or music that you had before the reinstall, and see in the bottom bar of explorer if its Date Created is the original or the reinstall date. You can also click Display tab in Explorer, then Sort by > Others > check "Date Created", > OK > Click display again > Sort by > Date Created. Don't mistake with Date Modified, I know the original Date Modified is kept upon copying, but it will update if you modify the file obviously. Please be honest and double check, losing 5.9 years old dates of my past would be heartbreaking, like mixing the pages of my diary!

Date Created is very important to me (and is underrated because it's not the default sorting option unlike Name/Type/Date Modified) because my computer is 5.9 years old, now has thousands of files and folders and it's easy to find them back and organize them with Date Created sorting if I didn't write tags or description in the file name.

I have Windows XP Home with Outloook Express (OE)

For some unknown reason, intermittantly, my previous OE "sent items" change a block of emails to the date of the next month, that is, a block of emails that were 1/Nov/2010, 2/Nov/2010, etc., become 1/Dec/2010,2/Dec/2010, etc., and this causes current sent emails to seemingly dissapear, until you realise they are bundled back behind the date of the incorrect next month that has been incorrectly generated on previous emails.

Has anyone come across this peculiar anomally, found what causes it and how to fix it?

PS I just noticed the same thing is happening in my OE "Drafts" section - I have a block of November drafts that have been "post dated" to next month (Dec)

Greetings, and thanks in advance for your help..

Awhile back I formatted my Windows 10 PCs to show ddd dd-mmm-yyyy on my taskbar clock. This worked happily on my desktop and laptop for months, maybe even a year +

Now (probably starting in the past couple days, if not today), on one of those two PC's, this format will no longer display. It is Okay on the other PC.
What has changed that the taskbar clock space used to expand to fit the "short date" format, but now it will no longer expand - and instead just refuses to display the date at all. (NOTE: I've verified the issue by testing shorter formats -- short formats, like "ddd" show up correctly. Only if you request a longer format will the date not display - evidently because it is too long for the clock area. )

Additional Notes that may help:

* "Working" pc is running build 10586 PC with too small a clock space that won't expand -- Build 14393

*Other differences: Notification/Action center Icon is left of clock on the working PC - Right of clock on the non-working
Right- Clicking on task bar gives "properties" option on working PC -- But "Settings" option on the non-working

( I don't want to prejudice responses - but clearly the implication to me is that some recent OS update is most likely the culprit.)

Thank You

Hi! Does anyone know what is the format of the date in the field "(battery) Manufacture Date" informed by Lenovo Vantage (Hardware Configuration > Energy)? It seems not to follow Windows setting. In my case, it is set to Brazilian Portuguese DD/MM/YYYY, but there is not a leading "0" in the returned value (see attached image). Does it really disregard the Windows setting and presents it in a fixed format (maybe American English)? When was my battery manufactured (Oct. 07 or July 10)?Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I'm new to Windows 7 (Home Premium 32-bit) and I just can't figure out what's going on here! Basically I want my short date format to be dd/mm/yyyy (UK format) e.g. 05/11/2010, but when I key a date into Excel 2002 it is appearing as 05 11 2010. In Control
Panel I have the short date format set to ddd dd/MM/yyyy and the example is shown as Fri 05/11/2010, but in Excel all the date formats are shown with space separators, e.g. 14 03 2001! I don't think it's an Excel problem though as in Windows Task Scheduler
the dates are shown with spaces there e.g. '19:25 on Mon 01 11 2010'. The date by the clock though is shown correctly with slash separators!

I know in Windows XP you can select the date separator from a drop-down list, but this option seems to be absent in Windows 7. Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International in the registry, sDate was set to a space, but changing that to a slash (and rebooting)
didn't fix the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas please what's wrong and how to fix it?

A:Date format using space as date separator rather than forward slash!

Hi Steven,
Thanks for the post!
When you set the Short date to ddd dd/MM/yyyy, the date by the clock is shown with slash, however, the date in Task Scheduler doesn’t show the slash. This behavior
is by design. When you double click the time and the trigger tab (for example) in task scheduler, the details are shown with slash.
When you change the Short date to dd/MM/yy, the date in the Task Scheduler and the clock become the same.
For the Excel date problems, I recommend you ask this question in

The option you're after is controlled from within Excel. If you right-click the cell(s) in question you can select 'format cells' and under 'Date' you can select the desired format.

Hello, I've been noticing this over the years. When Daylight Saving Time occurs (whichever one, moving the clock forward 1 hour or moving it backward 1 hour), ALL my files' "Date Modified" detail move forward or backward 1 hour.

For example, I have a document file called asdf.docx and its Date Modified detail is: 9/26/2015 4:00 PM
When Daylight Saving Time comes around to move the clock forward 1 hour, that file's Date Modified is now 9/26/2015 5:00 PM. That's not correct, it should stay at 4:00 PM. What the hell is happening?

In Microsoft Excel 2003, I have a column that has dates listed in this format: '01.01.2008', rather than, say, '01/01/2008'. This format is a requirement.

In the column that contains these dates, I have set each cell to have a date format to them as well as a custom setting that replaced the "/" with a ".". The problem, however, is that it can now no longer sort the dates correctly.

Is anyone able to tell me how I can modify or correct this so that I can have the dates listed in the '01.01.2008' format and still sort them as I normally would?

We implemented ATA beginning on 3/15/2016 with two Gateways and one Central Server.  We've discovered that a few servers that are doing LDAP simple bind, which we've resolved by enabling LDAPS.  We have a server that's waiting on the Vendor to
provide a patch, so this single server continues to alert periodically.
In the ATA error alert, "services exposing account credentials", the "export" function appears to have stopped updating the export.   The web-view shows current events (4/1/16), but the "export to excel" stops at 3/23/2016
in repeated attempts. The similar error (& cause), "sensitive account credentials exposed", is working correctly in its exports.  The system reports "Hooray, system is health!"  Servers have been rebooted, Webpages refreshed,
services restarted, etc...

I've found a strange situation where the directory field "Date Created" does not change after a copy/paste using Windows Explorer.

Here's the scenario:

1) Image files are written to a folder on the hard drive from an SD card.

2) "Date Modified" shows the time/date the photo was taken, as written by the camera. "Date Created" is the time/date the photos were copied from the SD card to the folder on the hard drive.

3) A file is opened from this folder into a photo editor and modified.

4) The modified image is written to a DIFFERENT folder.

5) On the new/modified image, "Date Modified" is still the original time/date the photo was taken. "Date Created" is now the time/date the new image file was written by the photo editor.

6) I now have two different image files in two different folders. One (A) is the original, the other (B) is a modified copy.

7) "Date Modified" on "A" and "B" are the same. "Date Created" on "A" and "B" is different.

8) The modified image is copied to the image in the original folder using Copy/Paste operation Windows Explorer. The "overwrite" warning clearly shows the file has changed in size. A "Yes" indication is given. The file copies.

9) The file in the original folder now shows the new size.

I also have some icon problem, some icons are mismatched in that list (but that may not be related because it happened in the past and I fixed it by using a small program called rebuildIcons.exe.

I was given an HP laptop with vista and it is very slow to start up. I was uninstalling some programs and I sort by date so I can see the crap that was recently installed... the "installed on" date was there and now its not. It shows name and size but date is gone now. Anyone know why it went away and how to get it back? It may seem stupid but I like to know the date so I don't accidently uninstall anything that was installed by HP and may be essential.

Also any advice or programs on how to start up faster... I have run virus scan with avast, ran spybot, deleted startup entries, cleanup, defrag. Anything else I can do?

I just installed Windows 7 (Pro 64bit) on my desktop and ran W.E.T. to transfer my files from my Vista installation. The files have maintained their modified date/timestamp, but the folders' modified-date have all been reset to the current date (actually not quite all of them - empty folders have retained their original date - ?!?)

This would be a serious problem for me as I almost always sort folders by modified date to determine which ones are newest and most relevant. Is there a way to make Easy Transfer keep the original date on folders as well as files?

thanks for any help you can offer...

Have not heard that one before.

Make sure the original is backed up, just in case
Dont know of a way to make Easy Transfer change behaviour. Be careful with easy transfer, it has been known not to be reliable. Be sure you back up before transfers.

Hey 7-Forums!

I have my music library, a 20GB folder on my hard-drive, containing a few thousand mp3s.
I use iTunes to play them, and I've always sorted them (inside iTunes) using the "Date Modified" property.

As a result of this sorting order, say,
if I found out an old song had the wrong name, or simply missing a capital letter and
corrected this, the song would move up to the top of my iTunes library because it is now the "newest".

This bothered me, so I decided to change the "Date Modified" of all my mp3s back to the original date:
the same as the "Date Created" of the file, using ATTRIBUTE CHANGER 7.
Unfortunately, I did not pay attention to what I was doing with the Attribute Changer and instead of changing the "Date Modified", I accidentally reset the "Date Created" of all the files to now.

This means that all timestamps were reset and my organized library is now f*cked.

Does anyone know how to undo timestamp changes??

I've tried to send a delayed email using the "Do Not Deliver Before" function. Hoping the email would be date/time stamped when I wanted the recipient to receive the email. For example, sent the email on a Tuesday and scheduled the email to be delivered the next day (Wednesday) at 10am. The function did delay sending the email, but the date/time stamp was when I originally hit sent on Tuesday. What is the purpose of this feature if the date/time stamp will not indicate the date/time I wanted the recipient to receive the email?

When using this function, is there a way for the exchange to track the date/time stamp of the email when it actually leaves the Outbox instead of when you click send? I understand the exchange keeps track of the date/time stamp of when an email is sent, but why couldn't the exchange keep track of when the email leaves the outbox when using this function? Is there any exchange setup that will make this function work the way it is supposed to? Thank you

Hello there & Happy New Year.

I have encountered this particular inconvenience on the 2nd day of 2012 while i was transfering photos and files into my PC with Win7.

In my Win7 PC, all files/folders created or modified within Dec'2011 and earlier are now all grouped under as "A Long Time Ago". This happens when I changed the folder to be "Group by Date" or "Group by Date Modified" with a combo of "Sort by type". I tried sorting in different ways of view to see if I can get it back to what it should be. Then i realised even folder newly created on 25 Dec 2011 is also grouped as "A Long Time Ago" too. I am not sure if this is an intended feature.

The only helpful part is that i will still see the newer files in chronological order if I sort by date modified on top of group by date modified.

I have been using this setting for folder view even for Win XP. As for Win XP, i will get "Yesterday", "Last Week", "Last Month", "Last Year", "Two Years Ago" and ultimately the whole chunk of much older files under "A Long Time Ago". Such perfect chronological order.

I tried to google for a while and not much of returns to this issue I am having. Perhaps majority of people does not group their files/folders in such way. But for me, I like the way how it was displayed that I know i have edited/created/moved whichever files/folders last year, the previous month or ... Read more

I have been using Windows Media Player as my main music player for a long time, but I have been having a lot of problems since I updated from Windows Vista to Windows 8.

When I listen to music, the "date last played" data seems to get updated with the current date. However, when I restart WMP12, most of the songs I just listened to look like they never have been played. The "date last played" information is gone. Sometimes, ratings I have given songs seem to disappear also.

I really like WMP (v.11 more than v.12), but I need to be able to see what I have listened to. I would hate to have to change music player just because of this.

I have tried almost everything:
1. Rebuilding the library through the "restore media library" option in WMP12
2. Rebuilding the library through the Windows Media Player troubleshooter in the Control Panel (when I'm done with this, it still says that the library is corrupted)
3. Deleting all the library files in AppData>Local>Microsoft>Media Player
4. Doing a clean boot
5. Disabling Media Player from Control panel and reinstalling it
6. Running a full computer virus/malware scan
7. Deleting the library files and reinstalling WMP at the same time.

Do you by any chance regularly run the utility CCleaner to clean up temporary files? If so, go to the Applications tab in the main window, and uncheck the box in front of Windows Media Player. I'll guess that a Media Player log keeps track of what media has been played. Unchecking the option box will keep CCleaner from cleaning that particular log.

If you use any other cleanup utility, perform the same inspection of its settings. Some antimalware & system utility "suites" incorporate such a cleaner: look for settings and options relating to Windows logs, expecially WMP logs.

If, on the other hand, WMP is corrupting its database or log files all by itself, see what happens if you visit the Privacy tab in Windows Media Player 12 Options tabs, and make sure that the boxes in the History section are checked for Music, Video, Pictures, & Playlists. You can try selecting the Clear History & Clear Cache option buttons, you to see if afterwards WMP does a better job if keeping track of the last-played data.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[By the way, I think CCleaner is the best of its sort of program, but it does have to be used carefully. It has extensive "UnDo" features built-in.]

So I have 2 folders on my desktop that I like to keep ordered by "date modified". So I go into the folder, sort it by "date modified", do my business, and exit the folder. After awhile, if I go back into said folder, it forgets that I ordered it by "date modified" and auto orders it by name instead. Is there any way I can keep all folders ordered by "date modified" without having them go back to another order after I close said folder?

A:I want folders to stay sorted by "Date Modified".

Check this out. Hope it helps. Fix: Windows forgets Folder View settings

I make my own server/Join a server, it takes about 15 minutes to load the map then reaches the screen with the Stage Rotation Schedule. Near the top of the screen, it says: "Node Graph out of date. Rebuilding..." This usually makes my computer go unresponsive. I have, however, Played about 20 seconds of a game. My computer crashed and restarted after that, though.
If you can help me on this, please reply on the thread.

My boss wants all fields to be populated on a form in access. Is it possible to have a default value of "TBD" (to be determined) in a text box that is formatted for a date?? I don't think so but I thought I would ask.

Thanks, Joe

A:Solved: Default "TBD" in text box formatted for date?

If that field in the table is formatted for date and you try and enter text to will get a datatype mismatch. You could put in a data that happened a hundred years ago as the default (tbd date). You will just have to get creative.

Every morning upon bootup and then several times a day I get a notification popup in the lower right of my screen from yahoo that tells me "YOUR YAHOO ACCOUNT SETTINGS ARE OUT OF DATE".
Clicking on this splash sends me to another popup that I don't want that gives me an option to "fix" my account. When I click on the"fix" box, I get a popup that tells me I need to update my password. I've changed my password several times, but that doesn't stop this aggravating popup telling me that my Yahoo account settings are out of date. This morning, I just entered the last password that I had set up for yahoo and was sent to a Yahoo email page that I did not want and do not use. I "X"d out of that page and invoked my regular Yahoo mail account that I am familiar with.

Ok I have a problem here. I have lots and lots of favorite files on Internet Explorer. Whenever I want to reference one of those favorite files, I go to my favorites folder in the hard drive and find a specific favorite file throught the date modified tab. I find it easier to find it that way than to find it through the name of the file.

And here comes the problem; I tried to back up my pc, but I aborted the operation because an issue occured. I then went to my favorite folder and somehow all of my "favorites" files now have the same modifeied date. Now I am having a very difficult time finding a "favorites" file that I want to open.

I am wondering if you can undo a modified date to its original date creation? I know, it's an uncommon situation, but it is somehow affecting me!

A:undo date modified on "favorites" files

I'm going to move this out of hardware and into web stuff; think it's a bit more pertinent there and you will probably get better answers.

Is it possible to add "Date Created" to the 'Sort By' menu for every folder in one step rather then having to add it manually to folders?

I have this issue that it's quite important for me.
In Windows 7 my downloaded files get different timestamps than in WinXP.

For example, let's assume that on 1.1.1970 I add a a file to eMule's download queue. eMule creates a temporary .part file, stored in "Temp" folder.
Let's assume again that the file has been completely downloaded on 2.2.2010.
The downloaded file will be saved in "Incoming" folder.

In WinXP, the downloaded file would have "2.2.2010" in the Date Created field, but in Win7, it would have "1.1.1970".

This would seriously mess up my files, especialy that I have thousands of sorted pictures.

Is there anything I can do about it?

A:Win7 vs. WinXP - "Date Created" Attribute

All the information is there it is just being displayed differently. Windows XP displays the date the file was last accessed, and Windows 7 displays the date the file was created. You can adjust what you would like Window 7 to display and get the same results. Change Windows 7 to display last accessed.

Running 7x64 up to date.

I like to sort the contents of some folders by "Date Modified," But, I'd also like certain items within that folder to appear in a different order than by date. Is it possible to manually modify the "Date Modified" information, so that the items I wish to appear in that specific order do so?

Thanks as always everyone!

Hello Russell,

I'm not sure that's possible, but if you like, you coud use the tutorial below to disable auto arrange to be able to arrange the files any order and/or position you like.

I am a PC user. I am new to Windows Vista this year and was opening some old documents that I had transfered onto my new laptop when I noticed that every time I open a document, the "date modified" automatically updates and changes the file properties. I do not want this to occur. Is there any way I can change this setting? I only want the date modified to change when I actually make a modification to the document. Thank you.

A:How to stop "date modified" from automatically changing

What program do you use to open the documents?
I don't think anything in Vista or word will do this automatically, unless you do indeed modify the doc.
Have you perhaps been using one of the numerous "Tuning" programs?
