Trouble connecting with new USB wireless adapter

Q: Trouble connecting with new USB wireless adapter

Hi,

I'd been having problems with my wireless connectivity through my laptops internal wireless adapter, so I decided to buy a USB wireless adapter instead.

It is an Edimax EW-7711UAn, Wireless nLite USB Adapter. I am using it on Windows 7.

I have installed the software on to my computer, and it has found all accessible connections. Under the Network and Sharing Center on Windows, it shows my network as connected to the internet, at full strength.

However, when i go to use the internet I get an error message on firefox, saying there is no connection. Clearly the adapter is picking up the signal, but for some reason it won't let me use the internet.

Anyone know the problem?
Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Trouble connecting with new USB wireless adapter

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi everyone: Iím having an extremely frustrating problem connecting to my Netgear DG384G v3 wireless router in my flat.

In short:

Ever since I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Pro, internet browsers do not detect a connection to the internet despite a wireless connection being detected in the network connections (and the icon in the system tray) when my wireless adapter is plugged into my PC. Connection problems only occurred after the reformat, another PC in my flat connects wirelessly to our router with no problems (before, during & after the time I reformatted; Iím posting this using his PC) and the router config settings have definitely not been changed in any way so its not a router problem. It appears that the wireless adapter is able to detect a signal from the router but the router is not sending information to the adapter (I canít even connect to the router setup IP address 192.168.0.1)?

More detailed:

1) I wiped the PCís harddrive then reinstalled Windows XP Pro Ė I thought the recovery disk would have drivers with it (like others Iíd used) but it didnít so I had to manually find nVidia chipset & 3com Ethernet controller drivers and SP1 (for USB 2.0 functionality), download them on another PC and transfer and install them on mine. I got SP2, this didnít change anything, I changed back to SP1, still no change to connectivity.

2) When my Netgear WG111 v2 wireless adapter is plugged into a USB port, Windows recognises it as a d... Read more

HI,

I purchased an adapter on Ebay that was supposed to allow me to connect my ide hard drive to my sata mobo connectors. My mobo has primarily sata but it has one ide which is already connected to my ide hard drives.

I have tried everything I can think of. connecing this and that, reversing connections, nothing workd. The instructions I was given were awful and the person I purchased is not helpful in answering questions. He hasn't responded.

Once connected I can't get it to show up in the bios The hard drive is an IDE Seagate 400gb drive. I am connecting to a sata connector on my mobo. I already have two other sata devices connected, they are two dvdr's .

My computer specs are listed above in the computer icon. The converter I purchased is listed here:

Is there a trick to doing this?

Alright I have been using my Xbox Wireless Adapter to connect my computer to the internet for over a year and for some reason it just isn't working anymore. Back when it worked if I unplugged it an plugged it in in the tray it would say it is connecting. Now it doesn't say anything at all it's as if it isn't recognizing anything in the Ethernet slot.

Would appreciate some help getting this working again.

A:Wireless Adapter Not Connecting?

I am clueless as to what is wrong, I thought maybe it was the adapter so I put it up on both my brothers computer and it connected them fine. So I took my brothers adapter and put it on mine still nothing. When it used to work you would plug it in and it would have the internet icon in the tray saying it's connecting then it would connect and go away. And then when you unplugged it it would say "Network Cable Removed", now when I plug it in it doesn't do or say anything and when I unplug it it doesn't do anything either. My router is upstairs and I don't feel like carrying everything to see if it will detect straight from the modem.

I bought a desktop without a wireless card installed and wish to connect to my OPEN 625W wireless router. I bought a Belkin USB adapter and installed it as instructed but could not get it to connect, even though I could connect wirelessly to my old laptop which has a network card. I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it, then spoke to the Belkin help desk at length without success. I took it back to where I purchased it for a refund and bought a Freenet Antennas UltraUSB which arrived today. I again followed the install instructions to the letter but cannot connect to the router. The router is a mere 1.5M from the adapter aerial. I have the ethernet cable connected but when it is removed it says I am disconnected from the router but I can view the available SSID. The adapter light flashes rapidly for a few seconds then slows right down, like it wants to connect but can't. I have set the router to use WPA Personal security. Can anyone help me work out why the adapter won't connect?

I have a Netgear WN111 wireless adapter on my PC. Since installing Windows 8.1 it doesn't connect automatically to the router. The PC says there are no connections available, so I can't even click on the router to try to connect. If I pull the adapter out and push it back into the USB port it connects automatically. Also, when I switch the PC off, the LED on the adapter continues to flash, so I have to pull it out and plug it in again to stop that. I've tried troubleshooting, compatibility check, reinstalling the driver and uninstalling the driver and getting Windows to install one itself. Any ideas please on how to fix these problems? Many thanks!

A:Wireless adapter not automatically connecting

It's quite an old Legacy Product (Even netgear sites shows it is as discontinued) , with Windows 8.1 , Microsoft dropped support for a lot of legacy item drivers.

It's just one of the many issues 8.1 brought with older hardware , unlikely there will be a fix , but you could try and see if you are using the most upto-date driver.

The situation is, i bought the PC from ebay and the computer was having this problem connecting, my friend came over and connected it for me but he has gone away and i can't remember how or what he did.

I have recently upgraded my graphics card and after doing this i installed the drivers for the graphics card and now the computer cannot detect the wireless router, i know its not the drivers as i rolled them back and tried again with the same problem, i know that the router is in range of the computer because i have 2 other PC's in the same room and they are both connected with full signal, i have tried resetting the router, Netsh Winsocking and flushing the DNS, all to no avail.

When i run an IPCONFIG all the fields come up with MEDIA DISCONNECTED, if anyone could help i would be massivly grateful!

Cheers, Dan

I couldn't figure out which sub forum to put this in so I just picked the one that is for my PC's OS. What I'm wondering is if it's possible to connect my PC's wireless adapter to a Bluetooth device, such as a speaker, and use it to play the computers audio through. I recently had my speakers stop working and had to throw them away. Since then I've been using ear buds to hear but I'd really like to have a speaker. So I have this Bluetooth speaker but my computer doesn't have a Bluetooth adapter. So I'm wondering if it's possible to use my wireless adapter instead. Probably a dumb question, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

I have to go through the same process evrytime to get connected, which usually takes approx. 5 mins That is to follow the Network/share centre's troublshooting help?
I have updated the adapter Driver, yet still the problem exists? Any ideas??

Hi,
I've just got NTl set up at our student house, with a wireless router (belkin) and am in the process of setting up wireless connections for all of us.
I have no problems connecting, I'm using a PCMCIA belkin adapter on a Windows XP SP1 laptop, on the other side of the house to the router and connection is fine and constant.
Today one of my housemates got their belkin USB wireless adapter
(they all have PCs, 2 are running XP, 1 is running 98SE.)
Once I installed it on their computer, (98SE) it picked up the connection straight away, but then a few seconds later lost the connection. (By the way the network is not secured at this moment, wanted to get it set up first). It spends most of the time scanning for a connection (the SSID's are matching) and every now and then connects for a matter of seconds. This computer is directly below where the router is in the room above.
I then installed it on another computer (XP SP2) in a room above the room where the router is, and the same thing happens, except the periods of connection are slightly longer, still no more than about 10 seconds.

I'm not sure why this is happening, whether it's maybe because it's such a cheap adapter (£25) and 'you get what you pay for', or whether there's some conflicting settings in these two computers.

I'm pretty familiar with computers but relatively a novice with networking.

Could anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks!

Mike

I am not able to connect wireless to the internet. It has been working for years. Then several computers in the house stopped connecting and our xbox 360. Now my wirelss desk top will not connect. I get the networking SSD to come up, but when I click to connect it pings then says not connected. I have re-entered the key several times, tried to set up the home networking again. Was wondering if I uninstall my linksys adapter program and re-install if this will help. Can anyone help me. I do not want to buy a new adapter if I don't need to. What is strange to me is, all the wireless computers stopped working at the same time and one by one the others started to reconnect. I really don't know if I messed things up by trying to run set up wizard several times. Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I just installed TRENDnet 108Mbps 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter - TEW-443PI
into my compaq p3, circa 2001, running windows xp. When I try running the "new hardware detected" application it will get all the way to the finish box and then freezes.
This has also led my computer to freeze at the windows xp screen and to start up in safe mode.

The software that came with the adapter has already been installed and I've been following the instructions.

Also I can't find the windows wireless configuration app that I'm directed to disable by going to control panel, network connections, right clicking on that, click properties and disable. Neither Enable or disable APPEAR.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Sounds like a resource conflict. Try putting the card in a different slot, move the cards around. Try uninstalling the software, then reinstalling.

Also I can't find the windows wireless configuration app that I'm directed to disable by going to control panel, network connections, right clicking on that, click properties and disable. Neither Enable or disable APPEAR.

Hit the start button, go to run and type "services.msc" without the quotes. Scroll down the window that appears, it's close to the bottom.

Do not disable the "wireless configuration" service provided by windows unless you have connection problems after the card is installed, and you have a application by the card's manufacturer to configure the card, or the card's manual says to do so.

Hello,

I've got a problem i hope someone can help me with. I've recently moved and i want to connect to the existing wireless network in my new place. But this seems to be cause me some trouble and i have to admit i'm not that up to date with wireless networking.

Heres the run down of the setup:

Main Router : Netgear DG8344G v2

House PC adapter: Netgear WG111T

MY PC: Bufflo WHR-G125 Router/Access Point/Bridge.

The House PC has no problem connecting to the network through Netgear's setup utility. The problems start when i try to setup my Buffalo in bridge mode. The documentation provided assumes you are connecting with other buffalo products. And when i go through the steps for the set up the connection dies on the house PC. Why this happens i don't know , and to make it worse the buffalo still doesn't connect.

I'm probably doing something obvious but i can't figure it out. Does anyone have any experience connecting the Buffalo bridge to an existing wireless network?

I know this isn't much to go on, but since i don't know whats wrong, i don't know what information will be useful.

Thanks in advance

KE

If so you will need to log in to "YOUR ROUTER" through the GUI/Browser disable DHCP, and power cycle it. Now when your plugging your router in via ethernet plug it into a LAN port...not the internet port...but one of the 4 LAN Ports
Unplug and plug it in.

Alright guys, PLEASE help me out here I'm going insane trying to figure this out lol..

What is frustrating is that I've been able to connect to my home network a few times, but it only connects for a couple of minutes and then the connection is gone.

I've gone to Belkin's website and I have the drivers etc. and when I go to Start > Devices and Printers I can even see the Belkin USB Adapter so I know it's installed right.

One thing though is it says the #2 after the Belkin USB adapter in the Devices & Printers. Idk if this is anything important.

I have had a wireless router for a few years. I've used my Dell laptop, Touch and kids access it with their laptops when they visit. I bought new HP Pavilion 3128ca and when I followed the instructions for connecting to wireless it gives me an error that I need 13 characters in the password for the router - I have 12 in the password now and it works for everything else.

I also have a new HP printer CA 780 wireless and it gives back the same error when I try to connect it to the router.

How do I get by this?

Hello Phil6049, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

We need more info. I would guess by your own description that you have your wireless security set to WEP. This is to old for Windows Seven. You need to use WPA2-Personal (WPA2-PSK) wireless security to be compatible with your new devices.

Cheers!

A:trouble connecting with wireless router

Ethernet cord from your modem to the "Internet" or "Uplink" port on the Linksys router should be the only connection you'll need if you're using it wirelessly; with the exception of the power cables, of course. ^__^

You can find your LAN IP by opening a command prompt (assuming you're using Windows) and typing "ipconfig/all" (without the quotes).

You can find your WAN IP by accessing your router's internal configuration pages. If you have the documentation that came with the router it should tell you how to access those. If not, once you get online you can find the user guides on Linksys' website for your model.

I've read some cases where some thinkpad laptops would cause some sort of issue with internet connectivity. When connecting, it would crash the internet all together so other devices in my house would not be able to connect, basically like a dos attack. From the other cases I've seen it is due to something called LenovoEMC/discover.exe but I can't find it in the task manager. The only thing that I can think is that it has to do something with my internet provider as this issue does not occur when I was at my friends house (different provider). If the issue is due to something involving my provider what do I say when I call and if not that help pls.

Hi there. I have a decent grasp of most tech stuff, but am totally clueless when it comes to networks and connections.

I have recently (past two months or so) been unable to connect to wireless networks in public places on my Inspiron 1420. I have tried at my school, at the library and in coffee shops to no avail. Wireless is fine at home.

My computer can detect the networks and claims to connect to them, but I cannot access the internet via browsers, iTunes, messenger, etc. When I run "Repair" I am prompted to reset the network adapter. It then claims that the problem is resolved.

When I run connection diagnostics under the Dell WLAN Card Utility, I get "failed" for the Gateway IP Ping test. I don't know what that means.

That looks like a good IP configuration. Usually a DNS server can be pinged; I cannot ping that one, but I don't think that's your problem.

If you're failing on pinging the Gateway IP you probably have a non-Windows firewall or security suite that is blocking networking. Perhaps it is corrupted, or perhaps it is set to only allow whatever your home network is.

My dads computer, which is in the basement, is pretty far from the router, 2 floors up; however, he could connect as of a few months ago. He got a new pc, which got infected, but I fixed that. He can connect only a few times a week. Seems like it's the signal but there's always been a somewhat weak signal down there. I don't get why now it's all the sudden worse.
Let me know any specs you need.

Have you moved the PC and wireless aerial OR the Router and aerial - even a slight change can make a difference
OR
someone else has now installed a wireless signal in your area on an overlap channel and that is interfering

Hello

im having a problem with my wireless n usb adapter with windows 7.

Now its been like this for a week and iv tried all sorts, normally i can fix it myself but this one i cant get around it.

My problem is when i use my main desktop pc, it will connect to the router which is a Belkin N Router and show a limited or no connectivity issue however then all my other devices that are connected to the router will disconnect and the router will disappear on the list.

I have tried two different routers + the virgin super hub and they all do the same. All my other devices work fine with them routers except for my main pc. I also tried using a different usb adapter to connect which was a different brand and that did the same thing with the router.

i've also reformatted my desktop and still get the same problem on a fresh install on first connect.
Im running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, problem however started happening on Windows 7 home edition.

If anyone knows anything on how to fix this issue then please enlighten me because im pretty stumped to what is causing this.

Thanks again
Zee

Edit ---

Works fine with WPA TKIP but the internet is then really slow. If i try and connect again with WPA2 then again it all hangs up.

Hey guys, I have just received an older PC, the low profile Dell Optiplex GX150. I freshly installed Windows XP with Service Pack 3, and installed my new Belkin N600 Wireless USB adapter. It appears to have installed correctly, however I am having trouble connecting to my network. When I search for available networks, my network is shown. When attempting to connect, the screen gets stuck on "Acquiring Network Address", and after a few minutes the window closes without connecting. My wireless network is encrypted with WPA Personal and "TKIP or AES", and these settings are correct under the network settings in Windows. I know this computer has networking capabilities, because I am currently sharing my Laptops wireless access with an ethernet cable via a workgroup. I am having no trouble whatsoever connecting via the cable (I am currently using PC with issue to type this). I'm sure the adapter is windows XP compatible because the Box the adapter came in states Windows XP with Service Pack 3 is compatible. I've tried a lot of advise from other posts on various forums and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

A:Problem connecting to wireless network via Belkin USB adapter

I have just received an older PC, the low profile Dell Optiplex GX150. I freshly installed Windows XP with Service Pack 3Click to expand...

What's the "service tag" number and/or "express service code" number on that Dell OptiPlex GX150?

-----------------------------------------------------

That Dell comes with an Intel Pentium III processor and supports a maximum of 512 MB(256 MB X 2) of PC133 RAM.

Yours has only 256 MB of RAM, so it's not going to run like a turtle. It's going to run like a snail or bog down.

It has only a 20 GB hard drive with an actual capacity of 19.12 GB, so it's not going to take it long to run out of free space.

That Dell is a "dinosaur" and isn't worth spending money on.

-----------------------------------------------------

Have you installed the driver software for that Belkin N600 USB wireless adapter?

I have a USB Linksys Wireless-G adapter that has been plugged into a USB port on the back of my Dell PC for a couple of years. Works great. When I use another USB plug on the front of the PC to connect a new Ipod Shuffle the wireless adapter becomes disabled. The Ipod appears to charge fine and Itunes starts up as expected. If I disconnect the Shuffle and try to enable the wireless adapter it fails. Only after disconnecting the Shuffle and rebooting the PC will the wireless adapter become enabled again. I've had several Ipod Nano's connected to the same USB port as the Shuffle with no problems at all. I'm trying to look into the IRQ settings. Does anyone have any ideas on this one?

Thanks.

And I have no way of re-intalling it. I think the only way of re-installing it is using the linkage disc but I

Hello there, This is my first time posting here, apologies if I haven't chosen the right board! I am having issues connecting my HP 15-ac109na laptop (Seen Here) to the Wireless Display Adapter I have just bought (Seen Here). The adapter works with both my phone and my partner's phone perfectly without any issues (so we know that the issue is not with the adapter itself), but when I go to connect my laptop it refuses to work. I go to Action Centre > Connect, and the adapter ("MSDisplayAdapter_9F") is visible. When I click on it, one of two things happens: 1) It says "connected" for a brief 10 seconds (approx), then disconnects itself. When it is "connected" for those 10 seconds the screen on the TV doesn't change (just keeps saying "connecting to [laptop name]"). OR 2) The laptop says that it "couldn't connect", and the Wireless Display Adapter app on the laptop says "Connection failed. Try to connect again", but after what feels like six billion attempts it still isn't working. I have tried troubleshooting the issue and have tried various solutions (restarting devices, resetting the adapter, downloading the firmware - which was quite useless as it downloaded the firmware update to my laptop via the app and then said "connect to your adapter to update", which I obviously can't do right now! - making sure it wasn't blocked by the firewall, checking for updates and updating drivers on my laptop).&n... Hi guys,

My computer knowledge is very limited so bare with me,

I recently had to wipe (start all over again) my fathers PC as it become infected with a virus which I struggled to remove. When trying to set up the wireless connection via my virgin wireless manager I followed all the steps correctly until the last where it could not find my USB wireless adapter. I installed the latest software for the adapter from the netgear website but it will still not succesfully install the drivers fro the adapter. Please can anyone help?

A:Trouble installing USB Wireless Adapter

I would take a look at device manager.to see if any device problems exist.Like so:
Let’s take a look at the status of the network adapters

Device manager:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
4. should be enabled and working properly.
5. If error code,what is it ?

It would be best if you could post a screen shot of Device Manager with the Network adapters and Other devices sections expanded.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Any error msgs received when you try to install the adapter ?

Or so it appears.. because I downloaded the driver from the Sweex website (adapter model is LW053 Wireless 54G Adapter USB) and Windows can't seem to find it. What do you suggest?

Hey guys,

I recently installed Windows XP Home on my computer that was previously running 98SE. I'm using a Linksys Wireless-B PCI Card to connect wirelessly to my network. For months its worked fine, but now with XP, the card doesn't want to work. I can connect to the internet for maybe 5 minutes, then the connection breaks down. I've got a Wireless-G router, which is compatible with the Wireless-B card. I think that the problem may have something to do with Windows XP's built in wireless network program, but I'm still not sure. I'll try to boot my machine up on 98 today to see if that may be the problem.

Thanks again,
John

A:Linksys Wireless-B PCI Adapter Trouble

G'day Campbell685, these kinds of problems are nothing new to WXP, especially if you have loaded SP-2 over the top.
It often affects USB's as well, most especially on machines with AMD processors.
There are some notes on MS's boards about it but it appears the problem is due to drivers being affected somehow.
I have addressed some of these odd types of problems by using Johnwill's suggestion of slipstreaming WXP with SP-2 and finding things then worked again on at least one problem board..
The slipstreaming program mixes both the raw WXP and the SP-2 and you then make a new modified installation disk. You will need a burner and use a slow speed to ensure the burn is good.
A bit of a pain having to do it but it certainly does help with odd unexplainable problems.
The program I used was "Autostreamer" Google should find it, it is a freebee.
I placed the SP-2 on the hard drive and combined from there.
The destructions are simple and it is a worthy exercise.
Cheers, qldit.

Hi TSG's

I have just entered the current century and finally setup a wireless network. All is well, but I have fired up a laptop I'm selling and cant connect it. I did a little google browsing, ran IPCONFIG through command prompt because my connection error is "router cant assign ip address". The IP Adress that comes up is 0.0.0.0
I ran properties on local area connection (win xp home), the properties of "internet protocol". Both "obtain ip address automatically" and "obtain DNS server automatically" are ticked.
I cant do anymore to help myself. This was a good effort I think for someone who has NO IDEA

Thanks for your help
