Stuck restarting after failed factory reset, reset still not working

Q: Stuck restarting after failed factory reset, reset still not working

Getting an infinite loading sort of error where my comp goes to HP loading screen, blackscreen, turns off, and repeats. Very annoying and nothing I've seen so far is working. I don't have a disk or drive to use to reload Windows with, and I didn't set any system restore points like an idiot, so I'm stuck here. I'm not that great with computers so any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I tried to reset my computer today after 3 years of using it without any sort of re-formatting, and all three times the reset got stuck on 65% before a blue screen appeared and said that an error occurred. It would then give me the options of either:
a) returning back to my windows 10, with nothing changed
b) Trying to reset again
c) advanced options.

I tried the reset 3 times, and after the last try failed I went to advanced options to look at other ways to approach the issue, such as checking if there were any restore points that I could restore to (which there were none).

After that didn't work, I clicked on the first option of just returning back to my windows 10, and that was when it would not start up anymore.

My computer now is stuck on a infinite loop of the launch screen of the ASUS logo, it flashes, then goes onto the second ASUS logo, and this is all it does, go round and round.

I tried to boot it on F8, F9 (the ASUS recovery button), and the 'delete' button. NOTHING WORKS.

I finally tried F2, which led me to the BIOS page? And I clicked on the boot tab and disabled the first boot configuration option, and still to no avail. It returned to looping, and when trying F8, F9, after disabling that BIOS option, and it still won't do anything but loop.

Any ideas?

A:Win10 factory reset failed 3 times. Stuck on startup loop now

Obviously you have another computer that is working.
The following is to do a Clean Install Of Windows 10.
Use the link below and download the current Windows 10 ISO file > then burn it to a bootable media ( DVD or USB ).
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/techbench

Note : make sure you select the same language, and bit version as your Asus computer.

Take the bootable media to your Asus computer > go to the Bios ( F2 key ) > set the boot order to CD/DVD or USB (depending on which bootable media you are using ) > insert the media > restart computer.
Installation will begin.
You will be asked for a product key. Click the Skip option ( or a "I do not have a product key" option ) and continue.
Activation should be automatic.

Hi,

First off, very new to getting help on forums. IDK if I'm in the right topic of discussion for this but, I'm currently using a windows 8 ASUS laptop 64 bit. Updated to the new windows 8.1when it released but its been over a couple of months and wanted to try the reset to factory feature to clean and possibly have a "new computer"

Followed the necessary steps in factory reset but A WHILE has passed and thought something might be up. Now, I understand that the process takes time but I'm approaching over 72 hours and noticed that people who have similarities in my situation see what percentage their on. I dont see any percentages on my screen and I dont think it's frozen.

I currently see a red screen with a circular dotted loading indicator and says "RESTARTING".

Now this has been all I seen for the last 72 hours now and, just wondering if this is normal or I need help to be doing something.

Much love and thanks!

A:Windows 8 factory reset stuck in "restarting"

Please don't listen to my suggestion, but 72 hours, yes it must be something wrong, so turning laptop off by using power button looks like only solution. However can't say what could happen afterwards
Do you have a repair disc? or installation media?
you could also repair your PC if anything goes wrong. see THIS

I have a Dell windows 7 Desktop PC. It was used and would only boot up in safe mode. After trying several things and failing I decided to try a factory reset. It went through the process but now when it boots up it says "preparing your computer for it's first use" then a C Prompt style window pops up and a list of files rolls up, then it says "Set up will continue after restart" then when it restarts its self it says "Preparing your computer for its first use" .. and it just repeats the whole process again and again. Any suggestions?

Since the reset has been started and stopped midway, there is no help for that. You need to download MS Media Creation Tool, use it to fetch the Windows ISO. Burn the ISO to DVD or USB memory stick. Then install Windows for scratch.

I have an msi laptop with windows 7. I have been experiencing some issues with it. Last night I tried to do a factory reset. The one where you press F3 during startup. Everything seemed like it was going great. The progress bar was moving along. It got all the way to the end and nothing happened. I left it alone overnight hoping it was just slow. This morning it's still displaying the progress bar and the elapsed time is still ticking away. Nothing has changed. I don't know what to do! To add to my sense of panic, there is a note on the top of the screen clearly stating to not touch any key while the reset is happening. Clearly the computer is trying to mess with my mind on purpose.

A:Windows 7 factory reset is stuck

A factory reset should never take more than a couple of hours if that. Obviously something is wrong. If you were having issues before the reset the failure could be due to a hardware issue such as a failing hard drive. You will need to stop the reset.

Do you have access to another computer? If  you do then download UBCD and burn the iso to a CD on a Windows 7 or later computer by right clicking the iso file and selecting Burn Disk Image. Boot UBCD and at the menu screen select HDD > Diagnosis. Scroll down to Seatools for Dos and do the short/long tests. If Seatools for DOS does not detect your drive then at the UBCD menu screen select Parted Magic. At the Parted Magic desktop select Disk Health. It could be called GsmartControl. Run the short and long tests. If they pass boot UBCD again and use Memtest86+ to run a memory test. Let it run for at least 6 passes and preferably overnight.

A:Failed factory reset errors

You can try running Factory Recovery again from its partition at boot, using Recovery Disks you should have made as a backup, or order them from your Tech Support. If it fails when run from the disks try wiping the HD first.

But that's factory preinstalled Win7 which is an inferior install to begin with, larded with bloatware and useless duplicate utilities that have better versions built into Win7. That's why most tech enthusiasts won't run it but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 following the steps in the blue link to get a perfect install.

Well...eMachines was acquired by Gateway...which was acquired by Acer...which no longer supports the eMachines line.  See http://www.neowin.net/news/acer-ditching-cheap-emachines-pc-brand .

Both Gateway and eMachines seem to have a history of possibly faulty recovery mechanisms.

Hi, I have a Y510p laptop, and it's close to 3 years old now, which means the original software that came with it out from the factory is Windows 8.  So a month or two ago a malware and virus screwed up my precious laptop that I've tried super hard to not screw it up with viruses. I did remove the malware and virus, but then there was still a persisting thing so I decided to factory reset it.  After that, it went back to Windows 8 thanks to onekey recovery through novo button, and I've tried to install Windows 10 back, it did download and prepare to install and whatnot. But then when it reaches the "your PC will restart several times" part, when it restarts, the Lenovo splash art appears and nothing else happens, there's no spinning circles thing, and it stays there for a few hours so I decided to force shut down my PC. Before I did the Windows 10 installation, I did check for updates for a Windows 8 and installed them. I don't know what is going on and I need help!

A:Windows 10 failed installation after factory reset.

Hi AmericanBear ,

Greetings.

To avoid creating other unneccessary partition during install and even windows.old folders that can eat up space, starting a fresh slate of OKR would be better.

This time , you can set the machine to clean boot and set power option to high performance (disable hibernate if necessary with powercfg -h off ).

Disable / uninstall any antivirus that may block windows update but you can immediately proceed with Win 8.1 patch even manually before proceeding with Windows 10 installation winthin Windows.

Hoping such suggestions help.
Update us how things go.

(this is more of a explanation of my current problems, not so much a question, but comments/help still appreciated if someone has ideas)

I started having problems with my Acer 7520g laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium a while ago, problems being computer/Vista crashing or freezing and not coming back up.

I had some crashes prior to this, but nothing too serious and everything seemed to work fine, so I shrugged it off as "normal windows" behaviour.

After 9 or so months (this being two weeks or so ago), the system crashed hard for the first time. Suddenly everything stopped, screen was frozen, the picture got bit "blurry" (looked like less colors with some purple pixels on screen) and I could only restart the computer with power switch.

After first such freeze everything worked fine, Vista restarted normally, so I once again thought "it was just one of those times". But at this time I took backups of my latest files, just in case.

Second time, computer froze exactly like the last time (couple of days ago). This time, at restart Vista started loading normally, but before the login screen should've been up, the computer stuck on black screen and nothing happened. I went to repair the windows (as system suggested when I forced boot with switch). The Startup Repair did it's thing, but Vista still didn't start. So I went back to repair, and this time used System Restore, which worked ok, but after the restore Antivirus software started... Read more

A:Factory Reset Install of Vista Failed

I ran some tests using "Ultimate Boot CD" from USB, and the machine turned off when running memtest+ (it ran to test 7/8 first time), the second time it turned off almost immediately. I tried the third time and it ran for couple of tests and turned off again. So no "errors", but the laptop just turned off.

After this I restored Vista with Recovery DVD from another Acer laptop (as the installation from Recovery partition of the laptop in question wasn't working). After installing Vista again, memtest+ didn't produce any errors and didn't shutdown the computer anymore (I let it ran overnight, and it passed 6 or so times).

So I though everything was OK, and started updating Vista. Everything went OK until Windows Update got to SP1. After installing SP1 and updated drivers from Acer webpage, screen got frozen on startup (no BCOD, no logs, no events, no memory dumps or anything).

And after this Vista didn't start (just like the original problem), so I got black screen again after loading bar and before windows logo / login screen. System restore didn't help (tried all restore points again). I can start to Safe Mode which works ok (no crashes on Safe mode).

Before updating Vista, temperatures were 30 to HDD drivers, 30-40 for core and GPU (machine just started). Just before the SP1/driver update and the crash I checked temperatures with Speedfan and it shower about 40-50 c to HDD driver, 40-50 for core and 70 for Temp1 (GPU I think).

Acer Aspire 5535 Vista Home Premium.

Hi, Really hope someone here can help me!!!

My laptop was working fine. I decided to do a factory reset to speed things up a little. All seemed fine until the 'Please wait while windows continues setting up your computer' screen. It stayed on this for around 6 hours. I thought there was something wrong so I restarted. It then boots up to the error that many people get when an installation has failed (The one asking you to restart and try again). I've tried this process many times both by from the hidden partition and 2 back up discs I made when I got the laptop around 2 or 3 years ago. I also left it over night, when I came to it it just had a blank screen and wouldn't do anything.

I've got hold of a recovery disk and checked for errors but it doesn't find any. Memory checks are fine. I've taken a RAM out 2 it only has 2GB in now. I don't have an original Vista disc as it didn't come with one. Just got the windows and app driver back up discs that I made when I got it.

How long should this process take? Any ideas what I can try next before taking to a repair shop?

A friend has a windows 7 disc, will there be repair utilities on that?

Any help is much appreciated!

Karl.

I brought a laptop that was the display model at Sam's yesterday.  I was trying to do a factory reset, but once it gets to "Installing Windows" it does a continuous loop.  It will start off at 64% then go to 100%, then restart.  When it comes back on, it is still "Installing Windows" and goes right to 64%, then 100%, then restart.  I started at 10:45pm last night (7/28/2016) and it is still saying the same thing. What can I do to stop the cycle?

Hey @GwenC,  Thanks for trying the steps as prescribed by my colleague. The next path to resolution would be performing an HP System Recovery. You can learn more about that process here. If you have not already created recovery media, I would advise you to contact our tech support team here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/product/HP-Pavilion-Gaming-15-ak100-Notebook-(Touch)/10282847/model/10402445 The alternative to that is taking the PC back to the point of purchase for an exchange (if you're still within their return timeline).  I hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi my computer knowledge is not that good, so my description is a bit lengthy cause I am not certain of what is relevant and what no. Last week laptop screen froze in half black half greyish screen with random colored pixels. I think it was doing a windows update. When I started it, it showed the same screen and then it went to a blue screen saying that ? attempt to reset display driver and recover from timeout failed? and then it shut down to prevent further damage. In safe mode I could disable/de-install display drivers and the computer was working (with bad display, in safe mode). The drivers were the ones that my laptop should have, I de-installed and re-installed them from hp website and when they were there, the computer after restart showed always the black screen and blue screen message. I tried to perform windows 10 update (laptop was eligible) from safe mode, thinking that it might solve the problem but I was getting errors during installation. One of the errors was code 80070714, but I think that some of the times I got different ones. After that I tried factory reset. When the computer restarts to continue the resetting process, it installs until  a point where I get the same freezing black screen, the ventilation is picking up and then blue screen and shut down. When opening in safe mode, I get a screen saying that the factory reset was not complete with choices: view log, retry and smth like error description. You have a couple things going on, neither is good. I am sure your hard drive is bad and needs to be replaced and it also appears that perhaps the video card on the motherboard is bad. That would mean the motherboard needs to be replaced. That latter problem is going to be a dealbreaker. I would not advise your spending the money on a new hard drive under the circumstances.

I usually have more time to find a problem, but I've been studying constantly for the LSAT in two weeks. These computer issues are driving me insane. The problems originally started a few months back, but it gradually got worse over time. Within the past month though, is when it became the worst.

For the last 3 weeks, anytime I started my computer up it would give the "No Boot Disk" error, but once I hit any key..it went away. I was thinking my hard drive was failing, or something of the sort, but once I did the latest Factory Reset -- that ... Read more

A:Factory Reset - Still Non-responsive, lagging, and failed startup

HP has the worst load in the industry of preinstalled sponsors' crapware and useless duplicate utilties which have better versions built into Win7. That's why most tech enthusiasts immediately Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to get and maintain a perfect install of only the OS.

In your case I'd make my Recovery Disks first, then wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command to make sure no conflicting code remains in the boot sector, before proceeding with the reinstall.

You can also read the SPecial Note to HP Owners at the end to test if you have the Minimal Recovery option onboard your HP which is very close to a Clean Reinstall.

If you're not able to do this right now then at least Clean Up Factory Bloatware which will regain performance lost to the bloatware.

Hi, My partner was going to sell her HP pavilion x2 Detachable, So i went on to do a factory reset, waited around 2 hours at it slowly ticking away then it said it had failed. Ever since then it got stuck in a continous HP loading screen to resert loop. Ive tried restarting, hitting esc and tried re-doing a reset but it continously fails, now it gets to a point which im able to log in to user, comes up with preparing windows, then just goes to a blank screen.

A:HP Pavilion x2 failed factory reset now wont load

Enter the BIOS by pressing the power button and immediately tapping the F10 key. Change the system date to 01-20-2014 Press the F10 key again to save the change.  Try booting again from the recovery media.

Trying to fix packard bell easynote laptop with vista home premium, it wouldnt boot so i tried the vista repair (is it just me or does this never work), when this didnt work i used the packard bell factory reset option and selected the partial recovery so as to keep users data.

It got to the point where it had to reboot but then said it was unable to continue installing vista. I thought no problem i'll do the full recovery instead.

But, now i cant seem to boot into the recovery option anymore.

Can anyone help me please?

A:Vista failed on factory reset now wont re-install

I got this today "Your device is at risk because it’s out of date and missing important security and quality updates. Let’s get you back on track so Windows can run more securely. Select this button to get going"

I ran several command prompts including chkdsk,  got  a repair utility to repair registery... etc,  defragmented and everything  I tried every solution found online and  I still  get this error when useing updates.  I even updated my drivers. I tried everything,  s  I even uninstalled my antivirus and tried it again.   I gave up and tried to do a reset  and also tried to whipe everything and do a reset and can not. really odd.

Any insight will be appreciated.

Also on the microsoft website I saw a security update dated 09/25/2017 ( today)  and when trying to manually update it said it did not apply to my pc.  I own a Dell Desktop all in 1 64-bit operating system Product ID 00325-95873-11633-AAOEM touchscreen 24 inch all in one

I thought a clean factory reset will fix the issue. But it is still has the BSOD. I have uploaded the zip file that contains the dump as instructed.

Sorry in advance if I'm in the wrong section, or this has already been posted. I'm new and couldn't find any answers elsewhere.

I just factory reset my Asus laptop. It was taking a long time so I went to sleep and let it do its thing overnight. In the morning, I went and turned the computer. It gave me the usual 3 options (Shut down, start windows, or start some recovery thing). I chose to start windows. After that, the computer booted to the Asus logo screen, and after a few seconds, the computer seemed to shut down and go black. Then the Asus logo came back up, stayed for a few seconds, and then the computer went down again. It was running like that for about 5 minutes when I hard rebooted the computer. No difference. Any info or help would be appreciated.

Specs:
Asus S56CM-DH51-CA

Intel core i5-3317u

6GB DDR3 RAM

Nvidia 635M 2GB VRAM

Samsung 850 EVO series 120 GB SSD (I swapped out the stock HDD and smaller SSD)

Running x64 bit Windows 10 Home

Okay so the story goes like this, yesterday my laptop had many weird stutters and freezes so I tried to fix it by doing different things like automatic repair etc, they all didn't work so I decided to do a complete factory reset and then the procedure ended up failing and then it froze on the spot, so I decided to restart my laptop, then all I get is a black screen after hp logo. Please help!

I tried resetting my laptop due to the fact that it was running super slow. I tried to factory reset (F11 and follow the screens) i get to where it asks me about wanted to reset all or just my files & I reset all. It loads all the way up to 54% & says that it failed at resetting. However, now it no longer lets me start up the computer. It gets to the HP and continues to load than restarts and does the same thing over and over. Don't know what else to do.
