Preferred Solution: Dell 330w adapter genuine or counterfeit?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Dell 330w adapter genuine or counterfeit?

Hi, it does look original to me as the part number seems to be valid.
The small sticker is most probably just the authorized manufacturer sticker.
Do remember that there are many parts in that is not directly manufactured by Dell.

I'm considering a Eurocom X8 with 980M SLI and the sales rep I'm talking to says I'll need a 660W AC adapter instead of a 330W adapter for 980M SLI. I understand that SLI consumes extra power but both the MSI GT80 and the Sager NP9377 with 980M SLI from xoticpc.com come with 330W AC adapters, without an option for a 660W AC adapter. Is there any reason why? Should I spend the extra $245 for the 660W AC adapter or will the 330W AC adapter be sufficient for 980M SLI? Thanks.

A:330W or 660W AC Adapter for 980M SLI

please post the rest of your system specs? If by AC Adapter do you mean Power Supply? If so then a 330w Power supply would be under powered for an discrete Video Adapter plus the rest of your system. You not only need to provide power to the Video Card but also ALL the other components of your system as well.

Apologies in advance for being computer stupid. The Windows update shield exclamation point logo prompted an update, I clicked on it, and got the Genuine Advantage counterfeit message. I bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop from Best Buy, new in the box, for $1300.

How can the pre-installed operating system be counterfeit? Toshiba pleads ignorance, Best Buy says call the store of purchase, and the store says call Toshiba.

Can I fix the problem without erasing everything on my computer which I don't know how to do anyway?

And is it really a problem or an insidious Microsoft marketing effort?

And if it's true, how can Toshiba avoid responsibility?

A:windows genuine counterfeit detection?

In short no you can't remove it. You should really go get yourself a geniune copy as you will be vulnerable to attacks without all the updates which you won't get now. Apart from that you are breaking the law. You can however disable the notifications temporarily by right-clicking on the icon in the system tray and following prompts on screen.

Four reinstallation media discs were received with the purchase of a used Dell Optiplex 390 computer. All four disc envelopes say they are Made in China and have the same off-white colored windowed envelopes, unlike authentic Made In USA products that have bright white disc envelopes. The markings on and/or in the inner rings around the disc hubs appear to be very unlike those on similar discs of the same age which are known to be authentic. These circumstances raise the question of whether or not these may be counterfeit discs that contain malware and spyware.
Does anyone know whether or not Dell has ever manufactured and distributed authentic restore media with the following descriptions and marked as Made in China?
Does anyone have authentic discs and inner hub ring markings for these titles which can be compared to these suspected counterfeit discs?

A:Counterfeit or genuine restore media?

Delltonian,
It is difficult to tell if the disk are counterfeit if they have all the p/n and markings as a regular disk. You can use them to install Windows, I cannot say if they have malware and spyware on it. It actually could be a legit copy. If it does load malware and spyware then you will need to purchase a legitimate disk.
For me to better assist in troubleshooting, please click my DELL-Jesse L and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your Dell Order number.
You would click my name in blue, then on the next page in the upper right corner, click the words "send private message"

Hello everyone, I have an older Elitebook which needed a replacement Windows 7 Pro install/recovery disc. Since it was out of warranty I purchased one from a third party. After installation I noticed a few curious things. Having never used an OEM disc before I?d like to run the issues past wiser heads for assessment, to determine if there?s cause for concern: Product key and activation: it never asked for my product key, and Windows was already activated with a different OEM key upon boot. (having read up on OEM licencing I understand this is not unusual).Windows update: showed 140 updates, but only 139 selected. A validation update was unchecked. I selected it, it installed without issues.BIOS change: system BIOS, amongst others, were altered after installing Windows. I was never prompted about this. Other changes, incl BIOS, were:   BIOS: 68SCF Ver. F.08 08/26/2011 -> 68SCF Ver. F.63 05/27/2016   Video BIOS: ATI 03/23/11 -> ATI 09/29/11   Keyboard Controller Revision: 97.45 -> 97.4E   MicroCode Revision: 18 -> 1AI assume the changes occurred during Windows installation and not during Windows update. Also, it didn't install any Windows drivers, and the disk is labeled © 2015 but installed a BIOS dated 2016. The disc label reads:    HP Operating System DVD   Windows 7 Professional SP1   DVD Kit 670234-A26   DVD 650435-A26    ?... A:Opinion: HP Recovery disc - genuine or counterfeit?

Hi: The recovery disk set for your notebook, questions 1 and 2 would be correct. The disk does not need a product key to activate, and the volume license key used by the recovery disk will always be different than the product key listed on the sticker on the notebook. Windows updates...some may or may not be checked out of the total. Can't answer your 3rd question.   That seems very odd to me. I have been using HP recovery disks for 15 years, and never had one update the BIOS on me. Did you allow the application and driver DVD to automatically install every file listed on it? I don't do that.  I uncheck the ones I don't want the DVD to install. All of the HP recovery disks I have for my HP business notebooks and destops except for one set, have no country of manufacture.  They just have HP copyright dates on them.  The one recovery disk set I do have, states it was made in the United States. I have always bought my recovery disks for my HP business notebooks and desktops, in or out of warranty directly from HP by calling in the USA/Canada...1-800-334-5144. I am almost 100% certain they would still sell them for the 8560p's.

Hi,

I bought a copy of Windows 7 off ebay, claiming that it was genuine. I looked through the ms site and came across the page for identifying genuine discs, which describes that there should be a holographic inlaid into the disc, with a center and outer ring of holographic, outer having wavy edges.

I have a disc that has a sticker holographic with no inner holographic and the colours are mono copper, not multi-coloured, as described.

Can anyone confirm that this is a counterfeit item please, as I was under the impression that it was genuine.

thank you.

My three-year old genuine OEM Windows 7 began giving me "counterfeit" messages a few days ago. I can still use Windows, but it occasionally nags me to enter the license key. I tried to do so with a copy of the key that I noted three years ago when I got the laptop in the UK, but it did not accept it. Also, as I have not seen the "counterfeit" messages before, so I did not know if they are legitimate from Microsoft, or malware. So I posted on the malware forum, and after doing the various tests malware has been ruled out as a cause (here).  The messages began after someone in a laptop maintenance place pulled the battery when it was switched on but unplugged. After that incident CHKDSK appeared to need to fix quite a few issues on the HD. Those HD fixes *might* have caused Windows to forget its licence key, though it seems improbable.

A:Genuine Windows 7 starts giving "counterfeit" messages

Are your updates turned off.
I've had several clients call me with a similar issue and it was due to having Windows Updates turned off, leaving me with the impression that MSC REALLY doesn't like to have that "in and out door" closed on them, so they terrorize users with that "Not Genuine" notification.
On the other hand, if your updates are turned on, then I have no idea what's causing it but you might be able to fix it by opening a command window as administrator and copying and pasting in the following text,
sfc /scannow
then hit enter.
Job will take around 20 minutes.

I need to buy a battery for my new used X230 and I was researching the 44++ 9-cell.  There's lots of "Genuine Lenovo 44++" batteries listed on eBay and Amazon, but I notice that in the listing photos that are clear enough to read the text, you can see a typo in the text on the battery  on many of them. I assumed that is an obvious indication that the battery is fake. Now, reading through an old post here where someone asked about this kind of battery, a mod says it's genuine. What should I know about buying a good battery for this laptop? None of the 44++ "Genuine Lenovo" batteries on Amazon have particularly good ratings and a lot of reviewers say that the battery loses capacity over a few months.  Is that because they're old stock.  Is there any guarantee that if I buy one directly from Lenovo (the most expensive way to buy it) it won't be old stock?  They don't have very enthusiatic ratings. Are there any generic/non Lenovo manufactured 44++ batteries that perform well? Thanks for any help

where I teach, I use some computers that are donated from local businesses. They come through a third party that distributes them, so I have no idea where they originally came from.

Two of them are now coming up with messages saying that my OS (Win2000 pro) is 'NOT GENUINE." I get these messages constantly. I checked their FAQ's and all of it, and there is no solution for me other than spending $149, which I will not do. Their FAQ's do not address the issue of someone using a donated computer and I can't get the messages to stop; it's not like I can uncheck them in startup or anything. I tried System Restore but it won't allow me to do that any more.

Is there any hope for me? If I install a new Win2000 Pro over the top (as opposed to a clean install), will I still keep my apps? I simply can't go through a full install right now, and have to reinstall every app and every file...

any ideas anyone?

A:"counterfeit vs. Genuine Microsoft Product" message

Do you know the contacts of the supplier of which produced your computers? If you do, I highly suggest you contact them to see whether they use bona fide Windows OEM installations or not. If not, you can try and call Microsoft and explain your situation.

Unfortunately, you're still going to have to pay $149 to get a bona fide Windows CD to replace the "ungeniune" one. I'm not exactly sure how a Windows installation works (as I specialise more in Macs and Linux boxes), so I don't know if you would have to do a complete erase; however, you should always backup your data before you do any install/replace.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2 month old XPS15 purchased form the Dell Outlet Store in the UK. I usually have it permanently plugged in, but recently used it on battery power for the first time. I noticed that the battery wasn't charging, and the indicator light at the front blinks alternately white and orange (one white then one orange)
After a bit of investigation I found the BIOS Battery settings saying that the battery was not a genuine Dell battery and therefore wouldn't charge. I have not changed the battery - the machine is exactly as supplied by Dell.
It now pops up a warning about the battery whenever I power on.
I tried upgrading the BIOS (from 1.1.3) but every time I tried it would fail.
Is it now standard practice for Dell to supply laptops without genuine Dell batteries?

Got the ZyXEL router basically free with my new HP computer. Running XP. No previous experience with routers or home networks. Had cable modem connected (first time since abandoning dial-up), service through Earthlink. Internet works fine when fed from modem directly to PC. Followed ZyXEL setup instructions with a wired connection to the PC, but cannot get an Internet connection. Settings for TCP/IP are as directed in the Quick Start Guide: Obtain IP address automatically, Obtain DNS server address automatically. IPCONFIG identifies IP address 192.168.1.33. Pinged 192.168.1.1 successfully just as directed, but still left without Internet access. The next step in the instructions for configuring the P-330W begins with opening the web browser and going to http://192.168.1.1 but obviously I can't get there while hooked to the router. Any help for this router newbee would be most appreciated.

hey everyone,
so i just upgraded from dial-up to verizon dsl a couple days ago. i received the westell 6100 modem (it might be a router too?) and it's been working fine. today i bought a zyxel p-330w router in hopes of sharing my dsl connection but so far it has not been working . i'm pretty sure all the cables are hooked up correctly... phone line to westell, westell to zyxel, zyxel out to desktop. i have windows ME for the desktop. i've been looking for answers and there are a few ideas:
-the westell might also possibly be a router, so the westell and zyxel are conflicting each other. one interesting thing i've noticed is that the zyxel tells me to go to 192.168.1.1 to configure it, but i think westell uses something in the 192.168.1.* range to access the internet (i had to put the latter ip range in my "trusted zone" of my firewall for the internet to work, even without the zyxel)
-i should have the "automatically detect setting" in LAN settings in internet options checked for the router to work, but i have not done this yet becuase the internet has been working without it being checked and i dont want to screw anything up so that i get 0 internet.
-for the tcp/ip properties i do have it to "obtain an IP address automatically"

any help is appreciated.

Hi guys,

I've recently purchased a l701x with a non genuine adapter. The laptop recognize the battery, but it doesn't charge it, due to the fact that it is a 90w adapter (and not genuine). I believe my laptop doesn't work at the full speed, too.
Now I don't know if the battery that I have is broken, or if it doesn't charge because of the ac adapter.
I'm looking for a genuine l701x adapter, but I've found tons of models out there (pa-15. pa-5m10, just two examples), but I want to purchase (better if used!) THE 150w original model. So I can understand if my battery works or not.

Can anyone please tell me the exact genuine model that Dell sold with 150w xps l701x, the one with nVida GT445M with 3gb of RAM? Thank in advance!

A Dell customer service advisor recently suggested I buy a new battery to fix a problem with my battery not being recognised at system startup nor charging when the adapter is plugged in.
Despite my AC adapter being the original adapter that shipped with my computer, the new battery still fails to charge. I receive a message informing me that the AC adapter type cannot be recognised (quickset). Furthermore, in what can only be described as an outrageous step, this message informs me that Dell will throttle my machine ("your computer will run more slowly") and then battery will not charge.
Clearly there is an error in the adapter hardware (most likely related to the well known one wire technique for battery verification)  meaning it cannot be recognised by the computer. I was therefore incorrectly informed to buy a new battery that neither solves the problem nor is of any use as it cannot be charged. Is this how Dell treats their customers?
I propose two solutions which Dell could offer me:
1. Send me a new, working 150W adapter compatible with my XPS 17 as a gesture of goodwill following the incorrect sale of a new battery at great expense which failed to solve the problem.
2. Provide a way to circumvent the faulty charger verification process. This is crucial for two reasons. Firstly the adapter is the original adapter that came with my computer so to verify its authenticity is not necessary. Secondly, Dell has zero right (non, whatsoever) to force consumers ... I recently purchased the Dell USB-C to VGA/HDMI/USB/Ethernet Adapter (Dell 470-ABQN) to use as a dock with my XPS 15 9550. Unfortunately while using this adapter the fans run at a very high speed, approximately 80%, and are therefore loud and disturbing during meetings and desk work. I have it connected to only an HDMI monitor and a USB mouse receiver. The fans also run constantly when using the built-in USB and HDMI ports, but at a tolerable level. I will have to return this item without a fix, so could someone at Dell please advise if there is a solution or if this is a known issue that will be reviewed? I have updated both the Thunderbolt firmware and software and applied all Windows Updates. Thanks

Only the vendor can tell you.  If it's an original Dell battery, it's not new -- it was made in 2012, so it's five years old).

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with Battery of type: RN873, Rating: 11.1V, Capacity 56Wh.

Currently this battery is not available in the market and whenever I purchase online for a battery of Inspiron 1525, I am getting battery of different type, Capacity 48Wh. Can you help me to get an genuine dell battery?

Please would appreciate your help. Thank you!

A:Need and genuine DELL 1525 BATTERY

For a genuine Dell battery you'll pay $80-100 -- consider carefully spending that on a system that has a resale value of between $50-75 on the used market (in other words, you'll be spending more on the battery than the system is worth).

Wow. After using this new Dell business computer (Vostro 270) for 2 weeks, to suddenly have that message appear in the lower-right corner was awful. Running a check utility from Microsoft brought me to a page that said to pay up $149. I called Dell and they said oh, we've seen this with some Microsoft updates -- be careful with those. So I used a System Restore point, and got rid of that Windows 7 Not Genuine message. (I ran complete system scans with Microsoft's System Essentials and Malwarebytes, and no virus was found.) I've used Windows since release 3.1 (pre-Windows 95), and have always scoffed at the Mac fans. No longer. I am a programmer by profession. The integration of this system with my XP computers was a nightmare. File permissions has been a nightmare. And now this. For business purposes I still need a few Windows machines, but for everything else I'm switching to Mac. This machine has wasted so much of my time to set up. Bitter? You bet.

Ok tried the best title i could think of to summarize the problem. I'm working on a family members laptop for them to get their laptop up to date on windows and maybe upgrade to windows 10. But the update keeps failing the troubleshooter fails chkdsk and sfc /scannow do not help. I can not install the updates manually i get the error error_sxs_component_store_corrupt and in windows updater i get 80073712 error.

To top it off i occasionally am getting a pop up on her laptop stating that her windows is not genuine. Although it is the same os that came installed on her laptop. She has very little knowledge of using any type of pc's so do not think she has ever updated this before me. She did not even have an antivirus on it until i installed Avira for her.

I updated her laptop before and got them all to install but a few. The ones left are kb2977759 kb3004469 kb306480 and finally kb976932. It says that kb2538242 and kb2538243 are installed and windows updates when i shutdown and they do not show under updates when i cold boot but when updater fails to complete they pop back in under updates.

I am hoping and praying some one here can help me sort it out for her i'm on day 4 of trying to get this done and ready to pull my hair out. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I have a computer that I bought from Dell about one year ago. Tonight, an icon in the taskbar tells me that there are some updates ready to be installed. I click on it to have in installed and after a while the installation freezes. I tried to restart the PC... but could not do it. I had to cut off the power to shut it down. When I rebooted, I received a notice saying that my operating system was not genuine and that I would no longer be able to receive updates. I am one hundred percent certain that my operating system is genuine... but, what should I do now???

Hi!

Just when I was about to download XP-mode and virtual pc the micro$oft site recognised my system to be non-genuine. Now this is, by all accounts, a load of bull$h!t - the computer is less than 5 months old and came with the system preinstalled.
Still the question of further action remains. That's totally unacceptable that a completely valid and legal copy is recognised as non-genuine.
Furthermore - oh what an irony - my previous computer running pirated windows never had the issue.. I'd really hate to resort to piracy again just to use my completely legal copy of the software to its full extent.

Please list your Dell model number and version of windows. Dell XPS 9550, windows 10
In the meantime, I'd suggest you run the Preboot Diagnostic tool on the system. Please follow steps below:
1. Power off computer. Remove all peripherals - Printer, external drive, etc...).
2. Power on computer, quickly start tapping F12 key continuously. In boot menu, stroll down to diagnostic and then click on it. After quick tests, click on Processor fan, and then Thorough Test Mode. Do the same for Charger as well. Report back any error code.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 and the AC adapter doesn't seem to be working. I have power cycled it like there is no tomorrow and have changed outlets! The light comes on but there is no charge into the battery...it still reads "battery is critically low!" blah blah blah...it almost got chucked out the door! Is there a trick or something I can do to it so it starts working again (like it should be) or am I gonna have to go and by another adapter?

Thanks for the help!

A:AC Adapter being difficult on Dell!

Does the laptop run off the ac adapter with the battery removed? You could have a bad battery. Turn off the computer then remove the battery, Connct the ac adapter then power up the computer. If it is still working it is likely a bad battery. From the sounds of it you can runn the computer with the battery installed using the ac adapter, so lets see what happens with out the battery.

I recently purchased a Dell DA-2 power supply (commonly used with the Optiplex sx280) with the purpose of interfacing it with a non-computer device. When I connect the power supply to the AC outlet the green light on the power supply illuminates. However, when I measure the voltage coming out of the DC end of the cable (between pins 2 and 6, 3 and 7, 4 and 8 ) it does not provide any output. Does the DA-2 require a pin on the DC end of the cable to be shorted before providing the desired electrical output? Also, does someone know if anyone manufactures an 8 pin DC power connector that would fit the DC end of the DA-2 cable (to re-engineer it for a different DC power interface without sacrificing the cable)?Thank you for your kind assistance.Respectfully,Gary

A:Need Help Moding A Dell DA-2 AC Adapter

In general, the newer power supplies only come on when power is applied to one of the pins.  Look at this article here about how to turn a standard ATX power supply into a lab power supply.  That might help you figure out how to modify the Dell supply or convince you to go buy a standard power supply for this. Also, follow the warnings in the article.  Opening a power supply can be very dangerous.
