I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After a recent malware event, I began thinking about a product that I thought was a little more than it actually proved to be. My question here is what everyone thinks of the total system protection AV packages that companies like Symantec, McAffee, and AVG sell?

Basically, I have Norton 360 total system protection (which I religiously update almost daily) installed on my PC and I let my guard down by accepting a program from a friend. That was my main mistake; but needless to say I paid for my lack of judgement. Anyway, as I installed the program I saw a quick blip from Norton saying that it was processing threats and then nothing else for the entire process of events. There wasn't even a log saying that Norton processed anything. If I had gotten up to get a drink I would never have even realized I got hit by something. It turned out that I was infected by a nasty trojan with a keylogger, etc. So I guess the question is if real-time protection is really worth the cost? Are there free alternatives that provide for the same thing? I've seen alot of postings about Avira AntiVir and Comodo Firewall free editions along with Firefox and its add-ons and those seem like good alternates to the $70 bloatware I see nowadays, but what is everyone doing for real-time protection? Are you even concerned about real-time protection? Are items like SpyBot Tea Timer just as good or better? I don't mind paying money for "good" protection, but it should be &quo... Read more

A:AntiVirus Packages; Are Total System Protection Packages Worth the Cost?

I am very happy with ZoneAlarm. I do not use their full suite, just the Antivirus that comes with the firewall, which includes an operating system firewall. I did not mind paying the 30 bucks for the program and I do not mind paying the 20 bucks to renew it each year. I have used for many years and I have no desire to switch, not even to the free products many around seem to like a lot, that is how happy I am with it.

While I won't be without real time antivirus protection or an outbound firewall, ZoneAlarm is the only real time protection I use and it won't let me install anything it perceives as a threat. I do not like or use Spybots Tea Timer but I do use Spybot to immunize my system, along with SpywareBlaster. I use Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware to run the occasional scan for malware/spyware

I've been getting the "Thread Stuck in Driver" BSOD when playing games for several months now and have just been trying to ignore it. However, it's gotten too bad to be ignored any longer. I've been trying to download a BIOS update (as another thread on this topic suggested) but the System Update program refuses to download the BIOS update it says I need every single time. I can provide more info on my system if necessary.  Thanks for the help.

Hello community

A problem keeps appearing, when trying to install Windwos 7 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) on a computer of a user. Since I'm not a great troubleshooter and Google hasn't provided me with any useful information (yet), I thought I might ask for some help here.

A:Win7 SP1 failes to update

You have some major corruption there!
In addition to 15 problem files in the SFC, you also have over 460 'Missing Payload Files' in the CheckSUR report.

The vast majority of all these is media files - mp3, jpg, wmv etc....
-- but there are 66 .dll and 29 .exe files missing in there.
It's as if someone tried to strip out Windows Media Player, and the Games, and remove all media files from the system.

A repair install is really your only hope, other than a clean install - if it works.

I don't trust the web app where you can supposedly run the different versions from their site

IE 11 has the ability to run a website in IE 9 or IE 10 modes.

If you press F12 to enter the developers console, then click the last icon on the left hand side menu called Emulation, you will find a drop down menu called "User Agent String". Here you can select IE to run like any of the browsers in the list.

When I search for updates the search fails to complete - when I look in my Update History I see the recent update for .NET Framwork 4.5.2 failed. When I scroll back through my Update History I find that several updates for .NET Framwork have failed since Oct, 2014, only the initial update succeeded. I wondered why so I asked the Microsoft Community and found a moutain of posts.  What should I do?
What if I opened a log file and recorded exactly what is happening on my platform?  I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.  I have a feeling Search for Updates failed because some program blocked the scan. What program I don't know.  When update .NET Framework 4.5.2 fails maybe it is because it doesn't know I am the System Administrator. These ideal come from reading the moutain of posts about the issue "Why .NET Framework 4.5.2 fails" on the MS Community forum.
I  would like to determine exactly what is happening on my system.  How can I log the events occuring after I click on Search for Updates, or is there a already a log file?

I received updates today and one was for a Power Point 2007 (KB2464594) security issue. I've rolled my system back (RollBackRx) and still can't get this update to install. I've read what I've found and none of it has been helpful. I understand this is a general error but have no idea how to get it to load. All other updates install with no problem.

I have Office 2010 (but did update from 2007) months ago. Using Win 7(64) Home Premium.

Any simple help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Error Code 80070643 Powerpoint (KB2464594) update failes

I'm facing the same problem. I run the Spanish version of Windows 64 Home Basic, and my system shows an available update for PowerPoint 2007. I run Office 2010 (but also did upgrade from 2007).

In the end, the system shows error 80070643 ,saying "Windows Update found an unkown error" (translated from the original message in Spanish). There's also a link for more info. This link takes me to a help page, where error number 80070643 seems to be related to a problem error on the .NET framework installed in the local computer.

I don't know if I should re-install .NET Framework or should I ignore this update as I don't run PowerPoint 2007. However I don't know how to remove the update, for the system not to show it as an available update.

I have Windows XP Home Edition, w/ SP3

I do not have any install discs, but I just burned the rescue disc as mentioned in the malware forum.

I can't identify "what happened" the machine ran flawless for a few months, and ten days
ago it got borked.

Over the last ten days: A defrag failed, There have been a bunch of different BSOD with various
error codes, MS Updates gave a "there is a file missing to do updates" message, MSE
repeatedly crashed and failed to update with "connection failed" message, there were "app error"
messages with MSE, Firefox began crashing regularly, I ran speccy an app that reports system
configuration and it began reporting back something like "class not available" mmm that's about it.

These have all been intermittent, I'm currently logged on typing this....waiting for the next occurrence.

I tried sfc /scannow, but it asked for a install disc, which I don't have. Now that I've
burned the rescue I'm think I might be able to run it now.

I ran chkdsk /r and it reported finding and fixing two errors.

I guess, I'll wait until the next specific symptom occurs and write the specific information
here. Other than that please advise me what steps I can take, or what info I should
report back here, to make a diagnosis happen.

Hello! I'm a bit new to GPOs and working on the server so please forgive misleading terms if I mention something that's not quite correct, but I'm trying to configure Lenovo System Update to run automatically in the background, with very little user input. We want the laptops to just grab updates directly from Lenovo so they get the latest and greatest. So when I move the ADM to the directory, this error pops up. If any of you out there in Lenovo Forum land know what I might do to fix this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

I upgraded to Windows 10 on my ThinkPad Twist. After that, I ran Lenovo's System Update and downloaded and installed all the recommended updates. Now when I reboot I get a message saying that C:\Program Files (X86)\Thinkpad\Utilities\PWMTR64V.dll is missing. Searching the Lenovo support site for this DLL file name shows that it is related to Windows 7 Power Management. However, one of the updates from Lenovo was Power Management for Windows 10. I am hesitant to install the Power Management update for Windows 7 (which I'm guessing will solve my missing DLL problem, but maybe not) after installing such an update specific to Windows 10. But I don't want to have to have that popup message about a missing DLL every time I boot. Anyone know how I can resolved this?

A:Missing DLL after Lenovo System Update

I have a T540p (x64) and am also getting the PWMTR64V.dll that started fairly recently. It's also been updated to Windows 10 (last year), and like you, given the fix apparently relates to a Windows 7 process, I'm reluctant to update/install it. I went to the pages suggested by the original solution, but both throw 404s. Not real sure where to go with this either, and on the assumption it's a bogus error for this OS/machine, I'd just as soon like to have it stop prompting if possible. elaine

Lenovo Security Advisory: LEN-2015-011
Potential Impact: Execution of arbitrary code
Severity: Medium

Multiple vulnerabilities have been identified within Lenovo System Update (previously known as ThinkVantage System Update). Lenovo has released a new version of the Lenovo System Update software that addresses these vulnerabilities.

Lenovo System Update validates all system update files as they are downloaded from the Lenovo servers. However, if the local system contains malware, it is possible that the downloaded updates could be altered before installation creating a race condition. The latest Lenovo System Update release eliminates this possibility. Lenovo System Update uses a service called SUService.exe to run system updates. As part of the authentication and validation process the service only accepts commands if a valid security token is passed along with the command. Vulnerabilities were discovered on how the security tokens were generated allowing an attacker to run commands. The latest Lenovo System Update release fixes the token authentication flaws.
Other security issues were also addressed in this update.
Mitigation Strategy for Customers (what you should do to protect yourself):
Starting from April 1, 2015, run Lenovo System Update and install the latest version of the application, version 5.06.0034 or later. You can determine the currently installed version by opening Lenovo System Update, clicking on the green question mark in the ... Read more
