Windows 8.1 Recycle Bin Settings Not Working Properly

Q: Windows 8.1 Recycle Bin Settings Not Working Properly

Hi,

New here so thanks for any help in advance. I have Windows 8.1 and my settings for my recycle bin are "Don't move files to recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted." yet my recycle bin still fills up with the files I intend to delete. Thanks again!

Preferred Solution: Windows 8.1 Recycle Bin Settings Not Working Properly

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi

I deleted my Recycle Bin accidentally, then I restored it (personalisation, change desktop icons, then checking Recycle Bin) but now it does not work properly.

I see two icons when I click "Change desktop icons", one is the full RB the other is the empty one. I do not know why, but when I choose the empty one (I have to choose one of them), it appears on the desktop but it seems empty even when it is full, and vice versa, the same thing happens with the full RB icon as well

This is not the first time I deleted my RB (thanks to "delete" option...) but, last time I found some info in Internet which solved my problem easily and immediately, however it was not only that "personalisation, change desktop icons, then re-check Recycle Bin" recommendation

I have also checked the other recycle bin threads here (as many as I can) but I could not find anything. I have been searching for hours now but no efficient results yet... Can anybody help me?

Thanks!

Hi
Can anyone help me reset task switcher? Right now it highlights each open window in the toolbar, rather than bringing up a preview window in the middle of the screen; and then when I release alt-tab, it doesn't actually switch to that window (although it does deselect the window on top). A small but irritating thing!
Thanks

I am also facing the same issue.. Is there any one who can help to solve this issue. It is totally annoying to work if the windows are not switched properly.... Hate it!

My touchscreen works...to a point. If I slide my finger up or down the screen, it selects what I've touched, but none of the other functions work. I can't touch to scroll, and there is no settings options to change this. While trying to find the settings, I discovered that in System, I have no pen or touch options available. In device manager, there isn't a hid-compliant touch driver, but there is a USB touch driver. I have access to two other notebooks of the same model and both are working as they should and both show the hid-compliant and not the USB option.

Recently my computer has been plagued by missing settings, windows installer, device drivers not showing up or doing their work. I've kept my pc on for hours just defragmenting it, also part of it was contributed to my mobile broadband being disconnected (hence I lost access to windows update) and now I'm back so I'm glad everything is working. Even now I cannot access Windows Update through IE 8 it's crashing... Well at least I removed a utility called vcom fix-it utilities, these apps are dangerous to the system, especially since this one was outdated, and it deleted over 1500 registry keys, and killed a lot of viruses in my forensic virus directory.

A:XP Not Working Properly (Settings hidden and missing)

Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:

Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry. Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that wil... Read more

Right, I have this problem with my graphics cards that I've been trying to fix for a while. I am using two R9 280X cards in Crossfire. They're overclocked from 1000 to 1100 MHz by the manufacturer. The symptons are mainly these:

1) When I use MSI Afterburner to overclock the cards, the overclock applies at first, but after a few minutes it defaults to 1000 MHz. Changing the clock again has no effect, it just stays at 1000 MHz whether I try to overclock or underclock. The same is true for the memory clock. Here's a picture showing how it looks.

2) According to GPU-Z the clocks apply correctly to the 2nd card.

3) The power limit slider seems to be working. Increasing or decreasing it leads to marginal changes in benchmarks.

4) All the games I've tried completely ignore the 3D application settings in Catalyst Control Center. Changing things like AA and AF have no impact on image quality or frame rate even when I tell it to override application settings.

These problems have persisted even though I've tried different graphics cards. I used to have a single HD 7970 and had the exact same problems. I also tried reinstalling a fresh version of Windows, in case it was some sort of software problem, but the problems persisted.

This has led me to believe there might actually be a problem with my motherboard, as that's the only plausible source of the problem that I haven't tested. I have no idea how the motherboard could be the problem, but I... Read more

Apologies if this is a common problem for which a solution has already been posted ... couldn't see one on a search.

The issue is simply this - when I empty the Recycle Bin all of the files seem to disappear but the desktop icon still displays items. When I try and empty it again I'm asked whether I wish to delete the 18 items (even though none of them show) - clicking yes and continuing has no effect and the 18 items are apparently still there, no matter how many times I try and delete them!

I'm sure there's a logical explanation!

Thanks.

Hi,
This morning I started up my computer (running Windows XP) and tried to log on. I'm a teacher, and my laptop is "named" CLANCY-MATHS. I logged on as cheinemann, and Windows brought up a box saying "loading personal settings..." then another saying that it had failed, so it loaded a generic desktop with a TOSHIBA wallpaper and all my settings and favourites etc. missing. This is so frustrating and it won't go back to normal. It has created a new folder in Users called cheinemann.CLANCY-MATHS which is what it's loading as my documents, when it should just be loading my normal folder of cheinemann.
How do I restore my username to my settings and my documents folder, or just reassign my username to the "cheinemann" folder instead of the automatically created "cheinemann.CLANCY-MATHS"?
Thanks

Due to the above I am unable to access the Recycle Bin and recover some files that I have deleted by Mistake. I have Windows Vista Basic Version on my Laptop. Otherwise there is no problem with any other applications.

Can anybody offer me a solution as the data is valuable and i do not wish to loose it.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium edition. Whenever I go into the Recycle Bin to permanently delete files, when I right click, it freezes up and gives me the message "Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working" then it proceeds to "Windows Explorer Is Restarting" Now I can delete files just fine when I'm on the desktop and simply right click, and choose Empty Recycle bin off of the Recycle Bin icon.

I have re-installed Windows, and I still have the problem. Any ideas how to fix it?

Because you have re-installed Windows 7 and have the same problem I would suspect that the DVD you use to install Windows 7 with has a flaw.

Hi... I have a Dell Laptop which is running Windows 7. Whenever i try to delete something, the dialogue box asks "would you like to permanently delete this file?" and seems to totally bypass the recycle bin.

I tried right clicking the recycle bin icon to change properties. The options for "Custom size" and "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted" are UNCHECKED but are also both greyed out and cannot be changed! "Display delete confirmation dialog" is not grayed out, and is checked.

Also my C: drive doesn't have the Recycle.bin folder. I tried to fix the Recycle bin settings from command prompt by running : rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin. But still after restarting the computer the recycle.bin folder was not there.

Is there any fix for this?

Hello.

Last night i hit the keyboard part of my compaq presario C765EM laptop, it froze sometime after that. Then on start up i got the immediate message "Windows Error Recovery". Underneath it said, Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. Theres more words and suggests trying either, "Launch startup repair (recommended)" or "Start Windows normally".

When i clicked the first one, a box appears with "system recovery options", i click next and a different box appears, there were no operating systems to choose from in the box window so i had the choice at the bottom of the box to click "load drivers" or click "next".

When i clicked load drivers, it took me to the "system 32" folder via Windows/Boot (X:)/Computer. From system 32 i clicked most of the folders in it, nothing happened.

If i clicked "next", i got another box called "system recovery options", the first link is "start repair", after clicking this, the dianosis details say the system volume on disk iscorrupt, but then says file system repair completed successfully.

Now when i switch the pc on i get an initial message to run 3 different safe modes or start up normally, the 3 safe modes freeze when it gets to the desktop. Normal start up freezes except, when i click start or IE nothing happens, except the arrow turns into a circle like its trying to search. The in... Read more

Here's the problem:

Kind of hard to understand but bear with me, I log into Windows using my user account "Owner", it appeared at first that the data was gone.  However upon closer inspection I notice that it's logging into Windows and then using a folder called "Temp" where it's libraries are by default, but all of the data for the account is stored in the folder called "Temp" I'm not sure why this is, it wasn't like that on Friday.

Login option - "Owner"
Users directory - "Owner", "Temp"
Data stored - "Owner"
Library used - "Temp"

I'm hoping you guys are understanding what I'm meaning, it's difficult to explain.

Installed Windows 7 on a new build-ssd. Windows loaded and worked properly, and was able to access anything I tried to.

Installed driver for graphics card. After restart, windows shows desktop background. No icons and unable to open start menu from windows key. I am able to right click and open SOME things that way, but others will NOT open. I was able to delete drivers in safe mode, then windows worked fine again.

Now, I've installed the mobo driver and the graphics card driver. I am having the same problem.

I have run a memory check and hard drive check. I have also made sure the icons are suppose to be displayed. I have installed all windows updates.

I've used ZMatrix in the past, and now that I'm setting up a triple-monitor setup I think it would look really cool to use again. Basically it's supposed to be a program that runs the Matrix "code" over your desktop wallpaper, but behind your desktop icons and taskbar. For some reason it's over over top of EVERYTHING on my Windows 7 installation, and it locks up anything it passes over... The screen saver component locks up my system even more, I've tried running it all in compatibility mode, suggestions?

Hi

I tried to search the forums for this because I know it's not new but I couldn't find it.

I am getting a pop up window that says

"Windows Explorer is not working properly"

then it says its searching to fix the problem then it resets the desktop. I tried to do a System Restore before this started but the outcome is

System restore was not successfull and that it encountered an error. I tried this at several different dates.

When I went directly to my System32 file I found the following

7B296FB0-376B-497e-B012-9C450E1B7327-2P-0.C7483456-A289-439d-8115-601632D005A0

When I tried to delete these files, it says that a program is using it and to stop the program.

I also tried Spybot to remove any viruses but nothing came up.

I also have Norton and scanned numerous times but nothing.

So now, this window pops up every other day or so but I know its still there screwing with my computer.

Can anyone help with this? Or show me where there might a thread already on this site. Thanks so much for your help.

A:Mouse Not Working properly in Windows 7

You have ruled out mouse drivers, and I assume you are reasonably sure there are no conflicting mouse and/or keyboard drivers (Software installed and showing in the Programs folder).

I'm not sure what "formatted Windows" means. Did you reinstall the OS and all your programs?

But the next likely suspect is your graphics driver. Have you made any recent changes there?

You can test this by going into Safe Mode. Does the mouse behave properly there?

If it does you can further test this by uninstalling CCC and the graphics driver, restart and let Windows install it's own generic driver, restart to complete the configuration, then see if the mouse works properly without the AMD driver.

Hello all. I'm new to this forum, and I'm looking for some advice. Autoplay has stopped working on my PC. I first noticed when I swapped out a game disc (FEAR: Extraction Point), which had been in the drive for a couple of weeks, for another (Gears Of War). No autoplay dialog appeared. I opened and closed it again, put FEAR back in, tried an audio CD. No luck.

What's interesting is that if I pay very close attention, the autoplay windows flashes up, but disappears immediately. The same occurs if I 'force' autoplay via the context menu in explorer.

I have performed the following:

1) Obviously checked the autoplay settings in Control Panel. Reset to default, turned it on and off again, etc.

2) 'Shell Hardware Detection' is running and set to automatic. Checked via 'services.msc'.

3) Applied a few registry tweaks for 'NoDriveAutorun' and 'NoTypeAutorun' entries.

None of the above have made any difference. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64.

Please assist! Thanks in advance.

I have built a PC recently, but do not have a disc drive, so I had to put Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) on a USB drive. The installation works fine at first, copying files to the HDD [a 2TB Seagate Hybrid drive] until the first restart. At the point it has booted up again, it simply brings me back to the first screen of the W7 installation, restarting the installation process again and not continuing where it should have left off from the progress made prior to that restart.

I will gladly provide any other information needed to help assess the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave, welcome to TSF..

I moved your post to its own thread.

It seems likely that there may have been some nasties bundled onto that disc you bought.

The first thing I want you to do is uninstall Kaspersky and any other security programs which are not working properly as these will just be slowing your system down as well as create more serious security issues.

Don't worry about those files you mentioned, they're perfectly safe..they cannot be deleted as they are locked by various Windows processes.

Please read through this thread as it explains the '5 Step Process' to take before posting some log files for our analysts to look at for you. You may not be able to complete some steps due to the problems you're but just do what you can and when you post a new thread here, include as much information as possible on the nature of the problems and any other relevant information such as details of any problems experienced when following the steps.

Any probs, please let us know.

Just out of curiosity jowend why do you have both? am no expert but maybe the two are conflicting.

Hi!

When i go to the Switch Between Windows icon and press it, instead of displaying the windows in a row that moves around like it used to, it now just shows them in a box in the centre of the screen?!

Please help me?

A:Switch Between Windows is not working properly?!

Apparently that's not an XP problem and would be better moved to the appropriate forum.

But anyway, Click Here and read what others have found to reset that feature.

Lately I have a problem with the internet :/ :the pages I try to open are very slow, sometimes I get a blank page (no matter how much I wait) or in the upper left corner appears this : ''https://apiluckyleapnet-a.akamaihd.net/gsrs?is=cbslugp7&bp=BAS&g=52b39c89-a2d0-48f3-827d-a2375fefea83''. Any suggestions? And could you explain as best as possible (I am not exactly an expert when it comes to computers ). Have a good day!

I'm having trouble with Windows search.

Neither the start screen nor the search feature within Explorer will return any results if the files I want to look for are on my secondary HDD. This is a bit of a problem as all of my documents, pictures, videos, downloads etc are on this secondary drive.

I can even go into the documents library and search using Explorer, and it still won't find anything that I search for.

Any suggestions? Everything is indexed and the indexing is complete.

Hi everybody.
Dr. Nick

I have a problem for about 1 month, and i haven't got rid of it.
When I start Windows 7, it works fine for a random time (it can be 15 minutes, it can be 5 hours)
But when it happens, i get this when I do some actions like
Opening "Computer":

Opening folders (missing icons):

And after right clicking on a file, it get buggin' and I need to restart explorer.exe

What I tried:
sfc /scannow
chkdsk
malwarebytes antimalware
Registry cleaning

Also, when i log off, and log on, it works properly, so I believe there is something running in the background that is making this happening.
What could it be?

So, after windows 10 downloaded, the problems started almost immediately.  Most have been fixed many others I just learn how to work around or deal with the ineptitude of Win 10 and the unnecessary changes.  I had been using
my HP Deskjet 2540 on the wireless setting for months without a problem.  I have taken my lap top to the Windows store and the technician there told me she couldn't do anything and didn't know how to assist me.

I returned home and tried to repair it myself.  I removed the printer and reinstalled it.  It allowed me to print for a few days, and now is not allowing me to scan.  I click on the icon on my home page or the link on the windows pop up list
on the left.  When I do that, I am prompted to a "Do you want to allow this app to make changes..." pop up window.  I click yes and am taken through the steps.  I try to connect the printer wirelessly, but am told to connect with a
USB temporarily.  I go through the steps and in the end the message says Windows 8 is not working.

I do not have Win8, I am forced to use Win 10.

I need my printer/scanner for school, I have work due tomorrow.

Hi friends
I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview (on Windowsc7) about few months ago. Then I upgraded it to Release Preview. It worked fine forme since a couple of days ago.

I was using my laptop, I closed it without shutting it down. The light colour indicated its gone 2 sleep, I then opened the laptop expecting it will show sign in screen, it didn't & I hard switched off by long pressing the on/off button on laptop. When I needed it later on I switched it on & it
1- it started normal, went to that screened which shows WINDOWS 8 ? circular moving dots under it.
2- After it I didn't see the sign in screen 4 a while & it showed simple black screen. I touched random buttons to bring sign in screen but nothing happened. I switched it off by hard pressing the button ? restarted few times but to no avail.
3- Then I tried pressing F8 to go in Safe Mode but it didn't work. It took me in a screen with recovery options & I selected AUTO REPAIR. it said AUTO REPAIR couldn't fix the problem. I restarted again few times again but it only showed me that blank screen where I could see mouse cursor, I tried to click the place (by guess lol) where normally password box is & I typed the password & hit enter & luckily it flicked & took me into Destop Screen but with only bottom bar showing & all the screen above it was plain black (I cud see 3icons on this bottom bar only).

Hi,

If you have an external drive , or even a usb stick - you should be able to copy any data you need onto that.

You will need to boot something up which can see your HD nad allow you to copy the data off.

You could try a Linux o/s - they are free and can be downloaded, burned to cd and booted up on your sick machine.

I have uploaded something to skydrive you can use - it is a .7zip file.

Inside that is an .iso .

Burn it to cd and you can use that.

The file to download is called NEW.7z

A:My Windows Explorer is not working properly

Hi jelintaric,

Some questions:How long have you left it after boot? Please wait 20 minutes and see if explorer loads. This will tell me if the process is locked or if something is just slowing it down. i.e. I want to see if the problem is explorer or another influence.
Are there any on screen error messages saying that explorer has failed to load (or anything else suspect)?
Is there anything in the Windows event logs to suggest what might be tying up or killing the EXPLORER process? (especially disk errors)

Some general maintenance to find problems and speed up your system:Run a Checkdisk on all drives
Ensure that you have set up defragmentation.
Check for windows files integrity by running SFC /SCANNOW from an elevated command prompt
