Computer is slow on start up and I cannot uninstall PC Fix Speed program

Q: Computer is slow on start up and I cannot uninstall PC Fix Speed program

Hello.  I am on a computer that is using Windows 7 Ultimate.  When I start up the computer it is very slow.  I tried to uninstall some unused programs from the computer and there is a program that I tried to uninstall that keeps reinstalling automatically called PC Fix Speed.

So far I have tried to restore the computer from a save point and it has not worked.  I am currently running a malwarebytes scan.

I am trying to fix this computer for my landlord so that he can use it as a HTPC in our living room.  Thanks for your help.

Preferred Solution: Computer is slow on start up and I cannot uninstall PC Fix Speed program

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello StrobeStop,
Lets see if these will kick it to the curb.....

1..   Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.
rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/
iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/
Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
    Do not reboot until instructed.
If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please advise me of this..
2..
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
.
    Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

and Then::
3.
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (aka MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free to your desktop.
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.
Be sure to restart the computer.
The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

Note: If Malwarebytes encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally will prevent Malwarebytes from removing all the malware.

If you have any problems running MalwareBytes.....go to your program list to MalwareBytes >>Tools>>malwarebytes anti malware Chameleon......follow the Instructions there.

Sorry but defeat has been swallowed. after a month of DIY, I must ask the experts

Problem
3 minutes to open up a program at start up, however as i run programs the computer gets faster. Analysing programs such as anti virus and spyware really help speed it up. But restart or go to another user and it slows again to a stop.
Tried deleteing programs which may conflict with my SP2 upgrade, such as Norton anti virus and windows firewalls, no difference.
I have tried Stinger anti virus, Ad adware personal and Spyhunter. all found and solved problems but not my major speed problem.

My CPU is always 100% with cpuidle.exe normally 98% of this.

I use Broadband @ 768bpm

A:Program On My Computer That I Can Not Uninstall

You will have to do a manual uninstall to remove it.RC Start (the MS icon in the lower left), select Explore (if Program Files isn't seen in the left column, select C-drive in the address bar at the top or scroll up until you do).Select the Program Files folder and then select the File Secure folder and look for a uninstall icon.If there is, consider giving it a try and hope for the best since they may have titled a malicious program uninstall. From your description, odds are they didn't provide one and you will just have to delete the File Secure folder entirely. If you get a dialog box indicating you don't have permission to delete the folder, you will need to adjust your user authority (if you didn't, skip past the *** lines).Should deleting the folder not work at all, you will need to repeat the process in SAFE MODE.Fastest way is to type msconfig in the Start Search entry and click the top selection.Select the boot tab in the box that appears and check safe boot, apply, OK and reboot.Once done, repeat the above 2 lines but uncheck the box this time but before you OK, go back to the General tab and make sure Normal Startup is marked (if not, select it and apply) and then reboot.***If your not a Administrator and only a user, your Administrator will have to make the changes below.***RC the File Secure folder and select Properties.***Select the Security tab and see if there is a entry in the top window with Administrators with your name or your computers name.***If there is, ... HI,
I've been led to believe that the start up of windows 7 is much faster than other windows OS's, but I've not found it to be any quicker. It awakes from sleep faster, but if I shut it down and restart it it's no quicker, and might even be a touch slower. My wife has windows 7 at work and says it's like lightening starting up.

Is this because I upgraded to windows 7 with Dell, and if so would I be better installing it from scratch? Would I be able to do this with an upgrade CD, I pretty sure it gave me the option when installing?

I've seen on another thread to type is MSconfig and under the startup tab disable any unwanted programmes, but unfortunately I'm not that clued up on computers and so do not know what's needed and what isn't. Here's the list from my start up menu.

Microsoft security essentials
Quickset
Microsoft Windows operating system
Software manager
Adobe reader and acrobat manager
Adobe acrobat
Datasafe online
Dell webcam central
Dell support centre updates
HpwuSchd Application (Hewlett-Packard)
HpqSRmon Application (Hewlett-Packard)
iTunes
Default Manager
Cyberlink PowerDVD
QuickTime
Java(TM) Platform S

In layman's terms what does disabling these from the startup actually do? Does this mean I can't use these programmes, or that I have to manually start them?

Cheers

A:Slow Start up using Win7, how can I speed it up

By disabling the program you will just prevent it from being started every time you log in.

You should still be able to run these applications manually, (assuming that the program actually has a user interface, some will not as they are just assistant programs to speed up the use of their main programs).

A quick Google of the name you see in the list should give you enough information to decide if you wish to auto start the program or not

I posted a message a few weeks ago, had a prompt reply, but I never answered back, so I'll repost my problems.

1 My PC is stuck for quite a few seconds(maybe a minute) on this startup screen

Channel 0 Master: st312002gas
Channel 1: No device

The cursor blinks for almost a minute and then starts up windows. Everything else is pretty fast.

2 I bought a 2 GHz processor, yet at the startup my PC shows a speed of 1.4 GHz. Unless I got ripped off by my vendor, what else could be the problem?

3 I have a Microsoft multimedia keyboard, and when I try putting the PC into sleep mode, a window pops up which tells me that my keyboard is preventing the PC to go into sleep mode. I downloaded the latest driver, but that just doesn't do. What should I do?

Thanks a lot for your help. I appreciate all of you guys hard work

I'm pretty sure I just need to turn some applications off when I turn the computer on but I don't know where to look. I have a HP pavillion, Pent 4, 1.5 gig ram... any suggestions?

A:How Do I Speed Up The Start Up After The Computer Is Turned On?

The Microsoft System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) tells Windows what programs to start on boot up. But when Windows slows down, those programs are prime suspects. They eat up memory resources. Reducing the number of programs that launch when you start your computer is a good way to speed up your system (and possibly cure some problems). There are two startup areas that are easily accessible. First,? Click Start > Programs > Startup This will give you a list of programs that start when you turn on your PC.? Right click > Delete the programs that you do not want to start with Windows. This deletes the automatic startup ONLY. It does not delete the program. You?re not done yet. To see what is running when Windows boots, ? Click Start > Run. ? Enter msconfig and click OK. ? Select the Startup tab. Clear anything you don't think you need. (see note below)* Restart. After boot up, you'll get a message about the Systemconfiguration utility. Check the box to not show the message again.Windows 98 and ME include programs needed by Windows in MSConfig. So check before you clear anything. Windows XP does not include critical services in MSConfig.EDITED TO ADD: If you come across something listed in the startup list, and you'renot sure what it is, try checking for it here

Hi all!
I have a program on my W7 computer called Family tree maker 2005. Up to abt. 6 months ago it would start within seconds when I clicked the icon. In the last 2 or 3 months it takes about a minute for the hour glass to stop and for the program to come up. Any idea what I might do to get it back working the way it used to.

A:W7 program slow to start except in safe mode

You can do a clean boot and open a few startup programs and services at a time, relaunching Family Tree each time you add a few items. This would narrow down the process or service.

Edit: Because the program launches in Safe Mode I believe you have a conflict. Perhaps your security suite or some other program that starts at boot.

Hi,
My computer is very slow to start running programs when i double click on the icons and also whenever I reboot it takes a long time to load all the way up easily 5 mins at the least. Although by now I have gotten used to it I'd still like to see if theres a way to fix the problem.

Ive run updated AVG scans with no virus' found, adaware scans, defragments, disc cleanup, ccleaner, registry mechanic, all that I can think of for helping with the problem but still its very slow and I'd love some help. Any suggestions?

Hey there.

I currently have a problem with my computer and I don't know if it is due to a virus, trojan, spyware, or anything else.

Symptoms:
Slow program start up. When I select an Icon from my desktop, no response is shown for about 20 seconds.

Also while I have Firefox open, I occassionally get popups opened in internet explorer.

I've run AVG Anti-spyware 7.5, Spybot search and destroy(both safemode and not), Ad-aware, Trend Micro PC-cillin, and SmitFraudFix(in safe mode), and CCleaner. Non of these has managed to catch or clean out the problem.

Here is the HJT log. And thanks ahead for anyone who helps out.

I just did a fresh install of 8.1 pro on my computer with an SSD. When i click the start button and use the apps window(not metro) to launch desktop programs they load extremely slow. The start menu doesn't even close on its own when i click to launch a program either i have to manually close it then a few seconds later the program will launch. When i open the program from explorer it loads instantly but for whatever reason doing anything through the new start menu is extremely slow, i really hope someone has some suggestions i wanted to give 8.1 a fair chance this time around and its already causing problems.

A:Slow program launch from start menu

Did you put the desktop program tile by using "Pin to Start..." ?

If so I would unpin it, then pin it again.. just to see what happens.

Open Task Manager and check the cpu usage. If it's high, check to see which process is using the cpu. You may also want to check Event Viewer and see if Windows is reporting any hardware issues. If all of that looks normal, then we will need to know exactly what is "slow".

Hi Everyone,
I have a 2GB ram Acer Aspire One AO722 computer that has been slowing down substantially. I have a huge amount of hard drive space but it seems if I store more on it it gets slower. My question to you is what is the best software out there to speed up a computer?

The Software I Currently Have (To Not Mention):
Tweaking.com Tweaker
CCleaner
ATF Cleaner

A:Best way to speed up a slow computer

Start by checking this out:

Optimize Windows 7
How many processes are running at any given time? Use the link above in addition to deciding how many processes you need running as too many will slow your rig down. I have an old laptop with only 1 GB RAM, Intel Duo Core and 55GB HDD. I usually only have 48 processes running at rest, and when I'm online, with multiple programs opened, I only use about 5% of my CPU

Tweaking things is a tricky route to take. Some can help, but many can harm. Windows 7 is pretty well tweaked out of the box so I wouldn't do to many. Try scanning for malware with; Malwarebytes or Superantispyware to see what may be holding your system up.

That's a good place to start, the members here can help further, but until you do a few of these common steps there's no need to get too in depth, as you'd be surprised how much these things can help.

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.
Any suggestions for how to get this program removed?
Thanks!

Is this a windows XP program or one for vista. It looks like a compatibility problem. Check with vendor to see if they have a version for vista. Some older programs will not work with vista and never will. There is an option to run in capatibility mode with vista but does not always work.

Hiya and welcome to Tech Support Guy

Are you still having this problem? If so, lets start with running the following tools:
Download Security Check from here.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

----

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so imme... Read more

I am doubtful it's a virus, so I posted here. Every time I boot my PC, explorer is slow to start up. Tonight I was in a bit of a rush, so it was the first time it really got on my nerves - of course, I'd never gotten an error before either. The error I'd gotten was: The remote procedure failed and did not execute. (explorer.exe) In the past, I'd noticed that it would take a while for my browser, Firefox, to respond to my clicking the icon. It's on my taskbar, and it would be highlighted like it was trying to open, but seconds later it would be normal again. A while later it would open, but in several windows, because I'd clicked the icon so many times. Other programs start up fine: my mail client (Thunderbird), Google Chrome, etc. Until tonight, I thought it to be a Firefox issue. When I started up tonight I got that error (when windows explorer was opened and froze), and not only would Firefox not start (it eventually did), the wireless icon on the toolbar was shown as loading, though the interne... A:really slow boot time andslow program start ups

You realy should be careful using registry cleaners, they can do more harm than good.I googled regcure and its rated bad both with WOT and hphosts.I would only ever use a reg cleaner that backs up my system first. So if you have any problems you can restore your previous settings.A reg cleaner that takes out a wrong key could crash your system making it unbootable.

My first bit of advice would be to uninstal regcure.Download ccleaner a good product from piriform and leave it on default settings and use the broom part of the programme and let it clean your hard drive. Then I would defrag my hard drive with a defragmentation tool like auslogics defrag. Both of these programmes are freeware and will not cost you a penny unlike regcure.

I bought a new computer last week, and i am connecting wirelessly to my router for internet, just like my other 3 roommates. My download speeds are in the 11-20 KB/S range while theres are in the 400-500 range! even my old low RAM computer is getting dl speeds in that range. I don't know why it is doing this, one of my roommates said he still downloads stuff on his win XP computer bc his new Win 7 comp is just as slow as mine!
Now, a series of stupid questions:
Is this a common problem with new computers in general?
Is there an easy way to fix it, such as utilizing more priority to download speeds?

I am pretty new to computers in general, so any dumbed-down info would be much appreciated.

Hello 7forums,
I recently purchased a new computer, and everything is running perfect except the download speed is very slow.
My old computer would average 1Mb d/l speed where as my new one hovers around 50-90kb. My brother is using my old computer on the same network and i got him to d/l the latest wow patch (so we were downloading from the same source) and it still averaged at 1Mb.
However when playing WoW i average anywhere between 30-60ms and my browing speed is perfect.
So to summarize:
My old computer's d/l speed is 1Mb, where as my new on is around 90kb,
After downloading from the same source the result was still the same,
Browsing speed and in-game pings are fine.

I've recently bought a new computer but for some reason I'm getting only about 10-60 KB/sec. When on my old computer(which is now broken) I would get around 1 - 3 MB/sec. I've tested it on my mom's computer and her download speed is fine. My ping is fine, such as when I play online video games and such I have no lag or problems. And I can upload things at my normal rate as well. But my download speed just won't keep up. things that use to take seconds now take several minutes or even hours.

I don't know what the problem is and I've tried a few different solutions that I've found, some even on this site, but none have worked. So please if anyone can help I would gladly appreciate it, and I will give more information that is needed.

Last night we bought a brand new HP Pavillion a6838f with vista and began downloading different programs. Well we began to notice that although the internet works at a perfectly fine speed downloads go excessivly slow. I have read that Nortan antivirus is a potential cause but I was just wondering if there are any other possibilities that could be causing the problem. We recieve internet via cable. Also, plugging our previous computer in right next to us and trying to download the same program, the speed is considerably faster, noting that the second computer is using windows XP.

What speeds are you getting with it? Visit http://www.speakeasy.net and run their speed test. What should you be getting?

Are you using a router? Try it with the router and with your computer connected directly to your modem.

Could be the related drivers for your system. Visit the HP site and install all driver updates related to your specific model.
