I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My wife's HP Envy X2 13-j000dx video display has intermittent, vertical lines that "flash" on the screen all the time.  It was purchased from Best Buy with Windows 8.1 on it and upgraded to Windows 10 some time ago. All the HP and Microsoft software are up to date.I booted into the UEFI software and ran many of the diagnostic tools, all of which "Passed." The Vertical line flickering problem almost never appeared, but when it did appear it was running a "Memory" test. And it expecially appeared when running the Memory Component Test.I looked into purchasing new memory modules, replacing them, and running the tests again - but it appears that all 8GB of the System Memory is "On-Board". Meaning I'd have to purchase a new Motherboard to replace the memory.  Who thought that bright idea up? If I'm right, and it is the memory, it turns a simple $30 job into a serveral hundred dollar job. Bad design. As I stated earlier - ALL the tests "Pass"  - including the System Board, Video and Memory - but any test that runs a "Memory test" the intermittent vertical lines appear. Is there something specific I can try that "Proves" or "Disproves" a main memory module(s) is bad?It seems I just purchased this system a little over 2 years ago.  I have 4, older, HP / Compaq systems here at home (1 running "XP" and 1 running "Vista") that have NEVER had ANY (other than a virus) problem -- and they are at least 8 years old. The Bluetooth connection on my keyboard goes out frequently and will fix itself in a few seconds. Last night I thought this was what was happening, but pressing the Bluetooth button (F10 key also) does nothing. I turned the keyboard on and off several times, left it attached thinking it might charge, and everything, but still it is completely unresponsive.Replacement keyboards are in the range of $200, which I can't afford. This laptop was bought refurbished. Any troubleshooting might be appreciated. Because it's refurbished, I have no idea what the warranty status is.

A:Envy x2 detachable Bluetooth keyboard

To reset an X2 detachable it is only necessary to  set the keyboard into "discovery? mode: Turn off keyboard. Hold finger down on Bluetooth button until it blinks continuously.Go to device manager and select "Add Device" you should see  "keyboard (ready to pair)?Click on pair and let drivers install. The keyboard is a simple Bluetooth device.  Attach it like any other Bluetooth device.  That is what the little Bluetooth key is for.Unfortunately, HP forgot to document this and the techs get this mixed up with the notebook instructions and the tablet instructions. Happy Bluetooth-ing.

I've noticed the back of the laptop heating up for the past year, and usually place the screen section on a USB-powered fan platform to reduce the heat. When I put it to "sleep" I then turn off the AC power. I've been able to run it without AC power for 2-4 hrs on numerous occasions. However, about a week ago when I tried to resume from "sleep" before turning on ACpower, the CPU suddenly turned off. At the time I was using an external USB modem which was plugged in. So I turned on the AC power, and restarted the laptop. That happened a few times, and at least twice I saw a brief message on screen saying the battery level was below 3%, so CPU was turning off. Usually in sleep mode battery storage would not drop below 93%. In the past week the battery has stopped charging. (Last night it said the battery level was 0%; all day today it shows 83%.) So I have to use the ACpower to keep the laptop running.HP Battery check today produced the following results:Warranty Type: 3Cycle count: 187 / 1000Manufacturer: 331CBattery Age: 780 daysSerial Number: 02255 2014/09/30Temperature: 36 °CDesign Capacity: 4580 mAhFull Charge Capacity: 3818 mAh (83%)Remaining Capacity: 3193 mAhCurrent: 0 mATerminal Voltage: 8254 mVDesign Voltage: 7600 mVCell Voltage 1: 4127 mVCell Voltage 2: 4127 mVCell Voltage 3: 0 mVCell Voltage 4: 0 mVStatus: 82AC Power: YesCT Number: 6EJHQ03WY7J48YFailure ID: MAHW60-000000-MFGH6K-C0E103 I'm instructed to replace the batter... I have searched across this site and other forums and have yet to find a solid answer to this question even though numerous users are having the same issue. This keyboard has worked fine for me for about two years, but now all of a sudden it will not hold a charge.  Even after turning the keyboard off, plugging into the tablet for 24 hours, and then turning back on, the keyboard only works for about five minutes.   I can only assume that this is an issue with the power going from the tablet to the keyboard, but when trying to update any drivers related to batteries or the keyboard it says I already have the latest driver.  Please help because I'm essentially stuck with only using a tablet for a computer as of right now.

Had an issue with my detachable keyboard losing bluetooth connection.  I then noticed when I would lose this connection and go to the device manager the bluetooth adapter would not show up.  This drove me nuts because it was not always happening at any specific time but randomly.  I would have to reboot a couple of times for it to come back then all would be good until the next time.  After almost two months of this I started to catch on that it would mainly do this when I was on battery power and when I hooked up to the power cord and reboot all would be fine.  I finally found the resolution on a Lenovo web site that has cured this issue.  Haven't lost connection yet and I have even tried to make it lose connection short of shutting it off. 1) Go to the Device Manager (Windows key + X)2) Select Bluetooth and right click on your Bluetooth adapter (mine was Intel Wireless Bluetooth (R) 4.0).3) Select Power Management tab.4) Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off device to save Power."5) Click on OK I tried finding this on the hp.com site but never did so it would be nice if they would post it because I am sure others are having this issue on battery power.  Mine would almost instantly lose connection as soon as I unplugged from power and went to battery power so no doubt I am not the only one with this issue.

Hello, WF here. I asked the retail assistant what to do when my notebook battery went down to 5%. Advised to completely shut it down, after charging, instead of sleep. I left it shutdown for a week or so only to find the battery completely drained. Even after charging for 20 hours yesterday there is no LED charging light. The notebook will not turn on at all despite holding the power button for 30 seconds.
I can't test and calibrate the battery by pressing the F2 key as suggested by the HP Forum post since the notebook won't turn on. Neither can I use the HP Support Assistant to check the battery.
It is such a pity to see my new notebook like this as the rear camera works excellently and there are folders stored on the 500GB hard drive. Sending my notebook for battery replacement is not an option as there are confidential files on both drives. Could you help?

Good day everyone. My HP Envy wouldn't turn on 10 months ago (no sign of life at all) and I had to send it in to HP to get repaired.  They stated that there was a BIOS related problem but did not explain anything that they did to repair it. Three weeks ago my laptop told me that there was a new BIOS update and that I was recommended to install it.  I did.One week ago my laptop became a paper weight and will not turn on.  The little power light by the power wire lights up but nothing else works. I tried the hard reset.I tried the windows button+b+power button combo.I tried the save-new-BIOS-to-thumb-drive trick. And I tried calling HP who told me that it will cost me $377 to have it fixed.  They even asked me directly if I did a BIOS update recently and then told me that it was my fault for accepting the update that was recommended by and downloaded from HP... Is there anything I can try before selling a kidney to keep this laptop running?Any advice is appreciated.

My fathers HP Envy M6 will not turn on, or charge.   I have the same computer, so I can troubleshoot a few things using mine.  From swapping the simple parts around, I can tell that the battery and charger is still functioning properly.  When plugged in, there is no charge light.  When my good, fully charged battery is put into his computer, it doesn't turn on.  It seems to be compeltely dead. I have tried the reset where you remove the battery, hold the power button for a minute, plug in the power cord and push the power button....it didn't work.  I understand there is a seperate circuit for the power cord.  If this is defective, would it only be charging that is affected?  I put a known fully charged battery in, and still nothing, so if this circuit is defective, would the computer also be non functional on battery power? I'm looking for any suggestions that might help, or point to the defect.

Although you did not state an exact model number, the generic PowerSupply (PSU) troubleshooter can be found here. What is bothersome is your description,  as pressing the switch might cause the green light (as stated) to turn - off.  Perform the step-by-step, without skipping anything.  Have the case open, and observe the CPU fan, and rear fan fan.

I own an HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC product number: E0K05UA#ABA and Model: 15-j053cl

I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened (a problem many owners of this laptop model have had). Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number 720570-001 and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it. I swapped out all parts being careful to note where and how plugs and ribbons were connected so I could put it back together correctly. Now after having it reassembled it will not turn on.

I get a white LED light to turn on when I plug in the power cord AC adapter (should be amber/orange in color to signify it is charging the battery) but no other sounds lights or signs of life. I have attempted to remove the battery and power cord, pressed the power button for 8-30 seconds to drain power and do a reset and then try to power up with plugging in the power cord but it won’t turn on. I also tried to power up by removing one part at a time including the hard drive, two RAM sticks, and wireless card but still not able to turn on. Power cable light is on, so has power, but nothing's happening.I plug in the charger and the orange light turns on and then when I click the power button it blinks white one time then it turns off right away.Any help would be appreciated... Thanks...

If you leave the power adapter plugged in dose the led stay amber? That means it is charging. Your troubleshooting describes a notebook with too low of a battery charge to boot into Windows. Let it charge for an hour or so before trying to power it on.

Hello, My laptop is currently operating without a battery plugged in. The battery was defective and has been removed. I have been running on AC power only. Today, the laptop will not power on at all. The AC power supply is good. When plugged in, i get a solid white led light from the power supply input led. When pressing the power button and releasing, there is a slight delay, then the led on the power button flashes white once and the led at the power supply flashes white, red, white, then back to solid white. The fan does not turn on and there are no noises. The laptop has not been dropped or damaged in anyway and was purchased new in 2014. Does this mean the motherboard is no good anymore? Thanks,Jacob

Hi, it seems that I keep having problems with my HP envy m6 notebook PC (windows 8). I have had this computer for 2 years and it keeps breaking down on me! I was using it this morning around 9:30 AM, and it was running fine, and it was charged. I turned the computer off, then headed to my class. Once I got out of class I went to turn on my computer and it would not turn on! I tried taking out my battery and putting it back in and turning it on, taking the battery out completely and turn it on with the charger hooked up, I even took out the battery, unplugged it and pressed the power button for a minute then put the battery and charger back in and tried turning it on and still nothing! This is very frusterating as I am a college student and I need this laptop for classes and I can't afford to have my computer break down on me anymore! Will someone please help me?! P.S. My led light when my charger was plugged in was not turning on either, and the power adaptor was not warm when plugged in, I don't know if this is one of the reasons why my computer will not turn on.
