Solid Modeling Software

Q: Solid Modeling Software

Does anyone know of a free (or inexpensive) program for solid modeling? I am fairly competent with AutoCAD. Our Engineering Department is changing over to SolidWorks and I'd like to dabble with something far more rudimentary just to see how it works. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Maybe Google Sketchup.

I have a Dell laptop purchased in 2008 running Vista.

It's always been a bit of a "Problem Child" so to speak but lately it is getting really bad. Every day when I start it up, after about five minutes or so the whole PC just locks up and freezes. I can't use Task Manager either. Sometimes the screen will go black and a message will appear saying something about not being able to create a security login or ID or something (my apologies but I am at work writing this and not at my laptop). I read in another forum that this issue might have something to do with Windows Defender and the one forum I was on said to disable it which I did. This did not stop the freeze ups from occurring.

I'm sick of this. I can't even post a decent question on a forum like this because I don't know what is wrong with my laptop. Even if I try and run a PC diagnostics it too freezes up at some point and I have to turn the laptop off.

Is there are reliable, reputable PC diagnostics software anyone can recommend? I don't want some dinky software that only fixes registry errors and deletes old internet files. I want one that will really tell me what is going wrong with my PC and tell me how I can fix it.

Thank you to anyone who can assist.

A:PC Diagnostics - A good, solid, reputable software?

Hi -

Have you given thought to reinstalling Vista? It takes about 1 - 1.5 hours of system time, followed by your installation of apps.

The freezing can be caused by heat build up. Check temps with SpeedFan -

http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Please provide system info. Run this app - it will take 5-8 minutes and will gather the necessary files -

http://jcgriff2.com/0x2/Windows_NT6_..._jcgriff2_.exe

The output will be in a newly created folder in Documents named Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2

Zip the entire folder up and attach to your next post.

I need to build a PC for this upcoming fall semester. We have been given guidelines to follow by the school but they are very open-ended, and could use some assistance.

The pc will be running programs such as Rhinoceros 4.0, Autocad, 3DS Max, Adobe CS5, etc.

I was hoping to keep the price range of this computer between $1000 - $1500.

Students entering 4th year Architecture will begin rendering and using other resource intensive applications. The college requires the purchase of a high-end desktop computer. Many students choose to have these systems custom built to better fit their needs.

Example minimum specs for 2011/2012:

Intel® Core? i7
12 GB+ Memory
2TB Hard Drive

DVD±RW Drive
Dedicated ATI or nVidia video adapter with at least 1-2GB memory
Wireless Network Adapter
Windows 7 ® Home Premium (64-bit)

I need assistance in the bold areas. There just seem to be so many things to choose from I don't know where to begin.

Thank you in advance!

Great post. I love tea (green and black) but never considered drinking it during game time. I live where its super hot so lots of water has always been the order. But I'l start trying this out soon. I'm curious to see how well Snapple would work. I know its one of the few pre made teas without high fructose corn syrup and other such ingredients.

I would also recommend coconut water from time to time. It can be good for post workouts and also hangover prevention.

Hi, I'm unsure if there are many 3d modellers on this site, if so I am in need of some advice.

I am following a tutorial which is using Maya 2014, however I am using Maya 2013. My task now is to use the modeling kit (only found in 2014) to snap an object onto the surface of another, using "transform constrain".

Unfortunately I cannot find an alternative to transform constrain in 2013, is there one? I tried using point constrains etc, but they werent giving me the desired effect.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

So I recently purchased a gtx 780 SC with the intention of gaming and doing 3d modeling work and game development with maya/blender/unreal engine 4. Originally, I was thinking of starting with the 780 and maybe a little later get the mid range quadro k4000 to use specifically for the 3d modeling work. I was wondering if just purchasing a GTX titan black with its double precision floating point performance would be a better option? Doing this would be around 100-150 cheaper and I would be able to game and do 3d modeling work with one card. I guess my main question is does the titan black compare with the quadro card mentioned above in terms of 3d modeling? I know the K4000 is a mid-ranged card so I wasn't sure if the titan maybe would do even a little better than the k4000? Any help appreciated.

As far as 3D modeling goes, the biggest thing you will need is ram on the card for the blender and 3D modeling aspect. Some programs are specifically limited to the Quaddro series of cards which means you will have to check if the programs you use will work with any GPU.

Basically, I would say either just get a 780ti 6gb edition (Being released this month I believe) if your programs will all work fine on the GTX series of cards. Or if that won't work, you should be fine with the 780 and grabbing a Quaddro series card to go with it. I would say only get Titan black if you really need the extra compute performan... Read more

If you are doing mostly Modeling the the Quatro cards are the best...but if you are going to game and model about evenly then the GTX titan black...but have heard it does very well in modeling also....it would all come down to price I would say in the end for me at least

Hi I have a budget of $2000 I need a computer for rendering. Does the video card matter for the rendering process or only for the modeling and custizing?

A:I need a computer for rendering in Artlantis and Maxwell (Not modeling only rendering)

I would look at this build. You can take out the sound card and peripherals and use the saved money to buy an i7 4770K rather than the i5. I would also upgrade the GPU to a GTX 780. The CPU and GPU are vital hardware when it comes to rendering and modelling. That rig I mentioned above should do fine.

I am looking for a new laptop. I currently have a X121e and recall it being extremely easy to configure on Lenovo's site. So I decided to look at the X270. However, having had great difficulty even starting to configure it (apparently, Lenovo does not favour Firefox any longer), I'm currently having trouble understanding the choices. The first is the choice between PCIe and SATA PointingDevice. Following some discussion, I gather this has nothing to do with any kind of pointing device, but affects my HDD/SSD choices. OK, so let's see what the PCIe choices give me. I get 5 'first hard drive' options. (Nothing I do gets me a 'second hard drive' option, so not sure about this. Or rather, I almost understand this now I've read the platform specification, the user manual, the hardware maintenance manual and various posts on Reddit. Lenovo do like to make buying a challenge!) Now, however, I've reached the end of my google-fu. Intel 256 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe256 GB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 - CapableIntel 512 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe512 GB Solid State Drive, PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.01 TB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMeI understand the difference beween 1/2 and 3/4 and 5 is obviously size. Does anyone in here still use SE v12 or at least HAVE used it and might be able to offer up some assitance with it.
I have a 3ghz/1gb/matrox parhelia128 computer that runs it great for the most part, whenever i go to rotate the 3d model, after say 20 seconds of rotating it sorta just freezes for a second or 4
sometimes for longer.
our support for SE is nonexistant and the phone service is giving me the run around, so getting an update is just about short of impossible. how is v16?

Is it backward compatible? If i use v12 to make something, and have someone using 16 open it, would it cause problems for the document?

A:Solid Edge V12

I'm sorry I can't help you with your problem, but I found this thread through Google, and I'd like to ask a question about a problem of my own, which is a bit similar to yours...
I just started at Helsinki University of Technology and I have a machine design course where we use Solid Edge v15... The university has an academic license for it and they are giving it for the students to borrow home so they don't have to use campus computers to do their works for that course. I borrowed it, of course, but it says it won't install, cause the program is for win2000 or XP only... I have windows 98...
Does anyone know what is the latest version of SE that supports windows 98?
And if so, I repeat the question of the previous poster: Does v15 have backward compatibility? We're not using very advanced features, so I think I might be able to do my work with an older version...

How much RAM you have in the "pretty decked out computer"? Plus when did U defrag the PC last? Scan for Spyware?

What amount of hardisk space you have free?

Had a major malfunction with my laptop over the weekend and had to replace the harddrive.. lost a few things but I had backups on an external hdd thankfully. One thing I noticed during the whole situation was that my system restore points had been deleted somehow, I researched and found that Defraggler deletes them sometimes, but who knows it could have been something else.

I'm looking for a good defrag program that won't do that.. I noticed Auslogics Disk Defrag in the stickied topics up top but just wanted to ask and make sure it doesn't do anything like that. Also I want a really good backup program. I was using the default backup thing on Vista (set to backup once a week) but when I check my external hdd, there are backups from last year hogging up space..

If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it

A:Looking for 2 solid programs

Welcome
I use Auslogics and am 100% happy with its performance. You can analyze your HD first to see if a defrag is necessary. Its does a better job than the Vista program included as defrag with the OS.
If you want awesome free software to back up, I use Macrium Relfect, it is awesome

One of this days i will buy my first solid state drive.
So i need an expert advice, especially from someone who already has ssd.
First : Most of all worries me the compatibility issue with my GA-X38-DS4 motherboard,i don't want to throw the money for nothing. And i didn't found anything in the web about this.
--------------------------------------------
Second: IF IS NOT THERE ANY COMPATIBILITY ISSUE!! Then....Which one is better, faster?
A) Corsair Force Series F80A - solid state drive - 80 GB - SATA-300
B) OCZ Agility 2 Series - Solid state drive - 80 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-300
C) OCZ Vertex 2 Series - Solid state drive - 80 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-300

A:My first solid state.

As long as you have SATA ports on your motherboard, SSD drives will work.

Faster is often a result of which benchmark you used. The biggest bang for the buck with any SSD is it's 0.1ms access times to files anywhere on the drive. You will get that from any of the SSD's that you pick. Your read/write speeds may be marginally better on one drive versus another, but unless you are continously reading and writing large files...it probably won't be noticeable in day-to-day computer use.

Personally, I think OCZ has a great reputation and the Vertex 2 line has been solid. I would pick that one if it were me.

Ive been looking at PC parts for about a year now, so I know at this point about which parts (mostly CPUS and GPUS) are which and when the next gens come out (like how piledriver comes next month presumeably)
But I cant justify $650 without being rather certain of myself.
so here is the parts list:
Rosewill challenger U3
Crucial 8 GB DDR3 1600 Dual channel 240 pin
FX-8120
Cooler Master hyper 212 EVO
Samsung Spinpoint F4 7200 RPM 320 GB (its cheap right now, althought seagate=meh hopefully I wont have bad luck)
Sapphire 2GB 7850 100355L
Rosewill green series 630W RG630-S12 (will update if/when I crossfire later on)
MSI 970A-G46 (chipset 970, has x16 and x8 in xfire mode)
some cheap wireless thing already got.

I already have all peripherals.
total price is $665 with shipping.

so yea, thats about it.

A:Solid build?

Looks good, but on a bit of a prejudiced note, you may want to look at getting a different power supply, since Rosewill don't have the greatest track record when it comes to PSUs. Also that case is a nightmare to try get clean, so If you don't want the amazon jungle inside your case I highly suggest you take a look at some of Antec or Coolermaster's budget cases.
apart from that, the rest looks good to me.

Hello all,

First of all I'd like to thank you for letting me join this forum. I appreciate it.

OK so on to my problem and question. I set my taskbar to be along the top of my monitor screen. It seems like ever since WinXP and probably before that, some windows that open creep under the taskbar. So when this happens, I have to move my taskbar in order to close the window. Yeah I know there's other ways to close this window without moving the taskbar, but another more elegant way to avoid this problem is make the taskbar solid so the window can't creep under the it.

Does anyone know what I have to do to avoid this annoyance?

PS: for clarity sake, the taskbar in question is the bar that is at default on the bottom of a the welcome screen. It would have the start/stop button on it.

Hi,
Bought recently the new XPS 13 and have a weird problem.
The battery indicator always shows a solid amber light when it is plugged in (100% battery) and what is more strange when it's turned off.
I have updated BIOS although I think I had the latest one anyway.
There are no other evident problems.
Please advise, thanks.

A:New XPS 13 - solid amber light always on

The battery charge LED for the XPS 13 will glow amber if the battery is low on charge.  With the AC adapter connected and the system turned off the battery should charge fairly quickly and then the LED should turn white indicating that the battery is no longer low in charge and is being charged. Once fully charged the LED should go dark.
Battery Charge LED —
LED that indicates battery charge state.

Illuminates white while plugged in and charging. When the charging is completed LED turns off.

Battery level is low, LED illuminates in amber color.
Please reply back if it looks like the system is having problems charging the battery.

I'm putting together a PC from old parts. I'm using an ASUS PS800 mobo and a 300W power supply. When I 1st got it hooked up, the PC wouldn't turn on. I looked inside the case and noted that the green LED (which indicates when the computer is getting power) was flickering at a steady rate, and wasn't very bright. The cord into the PS was in tight, and the PS connections to the mobo were tight too. So I used a power supply tester on the PS, and it checked good. I plugged it back into the mobo, the green LED was bright and solid, and the computer booted up and ran fine for a couple of hours. It ran fine the next day too.

The day after than, I moved it into another room. Same problem -- the green LED flickered and wasn't very bright. This time I tried a different power cord, but no difference. Hooked up the PS tester, it tested good, plugged the PS back into the mobo, and everything works fine again.

The mobo came out of a working computer. The PS came out of a computer w/ a bad mobo, and again, the PS always tests good. Could the mobo be grounding against the case? I looked at that, but I didn't see any clearance issues. And it runs fine for long periods of time. What else should I check?

Hi,

I was wondering, with 400 Dolars to spend on HDs, which one do i choose?
I will never use more than 500 GB, which i think is too much.
And i wanted a fast drive, like an SSD.
But i heard that SSDs have a short-life, and they're speed are decreased according to its age.

So, what would be better?
Buy 4x 250 GB 7200 RPM HDs and make Raid 4

Or 1x 128 SSD and a 500 GB for storage

Better that you should read these articles first:

I'm running an AMD Athlon XP 1700 (1.48 GHz) w/ 768 MB of RAM, on an ASUS A7V-266E motherboard, w/ 30 GB on the HD, a SBlaster Audigy sound card, a US Robotics 56K modem, DVD and CD-RW drives, an NVidia GeForce 2 MX400, tied together with WinXP Home Ed.

I'm looking to upgrade my computer so that it's stable without any noticable loss of performance.

I've been hearing a lot about the GeForce Cards and ASUS motherboard complications recently and I can attest that its true, even with the latest driver updates the computer crashes on menial operations such as using MS Word to even playing DVDs. I've had to avoid using MS Word, which is a waste of my money...and time, only to use the WordPad XP has to offer to avoid crashing while typing long papers required for college.

If anybody has some suggestions to this by all means I'd like to hear your ideas/ suggestions/ resolutions.

Thanks.

Once or twice a week my Dell 1100 Dimension XP Pro SP3 machine will free solid, and Cntr-Alt-Delete does nothing, the mouse does nothing. The screen just shows what I was working on when it froze.

The interesting thing, is the hard disk light is on solid. I have to unplug the computer to reboot it.

I ran spinrite on the drive, but found no problems.

I see my event log after the crash shows:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x806f0753, 0xb4df5878, 0x00000000).

I had read online here that:

A bugcheck of 0x0000008e combined with the first parameter of 0xc0000005 indicates that a driver attempted to access an area of memory that it should not have.

I'll attach a zip file named Archive.zip with the contents of my \windows\minidump\ and msinfo32.nfo file

In case anyone knows how to read them and tell me if they see anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks!
John

I recently purchased a new graphics cards and a SSD for me home pc. I installed the graphics card (Nvidia 760 GTX) without issue and it was working well, but when I tried to plug in the SSD everything went wrong quickly. Computer is now very slow to load, I can't seem to find a way to actually get anything on the SSD (primarily want to OS on it at least) and videos won't play in HD. Any help for what I might have done wrong or how to make the new drive work like I want it to would be greatly appreciated. I'm running windows 7, but don't have the disk if a reinstall is something that I need to do.

First of all, no one [other than you] has any idea what we are working on. Post ALL of your exact system specs; ie exact mb, exact ram, exact pw supply installed, etc, etc. If this is a big box system ie dell, hp, whatever, then post the exact make and model#

As for the ssd, post the exact ssd you installed along with what mode is used for the sata controller.

When I install Solid Edge everything goes find but in the end Removing temporary files used just keeps loading... I ended setup process and Solid Edge works fine, but now if I try to install any other appliaction its says: Another install process is paused, and it then it gives me option to remove solid edge or close setup of new application. I have tried running in vista sp1 mode, as administrator, but still the same, so is there any way to somehow end the install.

Thanks

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm gona roll back to vista, too many problems.

A:Problem with Solid Edge

If you kill the process "PrinterInstaller.exe" the installation will continue and you will be able to use Solid Edge. The problem is that you can't install any MP on top of this installation.

Hello All,

I am new to this forum and i hope i posted my question in the correct section.

I am having issue setting up 2 different solid color backgrounds on a dual monitors setup. I can do the different background pictures on different monitor but not solid color. Does anyone know how to configure two different colored background on dual monitor?

Thank you

A:Have 2 Different Solid Colored Backgrounds

Hi there,

It's not possible to set the background colour different for each monitor. But you can tweak the system.

Make a 'picture' in Paint with the appropriate colour and save it. Then make that the background picture for your screen and select the option to fill the picture to the screen. Do this for both screens.

this is a very strange problem and I've actually spent 5+ years doing tech support for networks, ISP's, webservers etc. etc..

Anyways.. Windows XP SP2. I am now using a wireless router for my PS3. but it's a hard connection from Cable Modem to router to PC. If I open up IE I usually get webpages w/o a problem.. here's the problem

If I have one window or tab w/ a webpage open.. I cannot open another and get a page. Also If I'm running OE I cannot get the url page to open in IE or even another program (firefox, opera etc..). I can ping when this happens. the error is the standard page cannot be displayed. I have already removed and reinstalled IE7. downgraded to IE6 applied all security patches. I have turned off firewalls, virus programs etc.. etc..

In addition Media Player11 doesn't allow me to share my media. I was attempted to share files w/ my PS3 but media player just sat and sat and sat. Not responding type issue. I'm completely virus free and it seems browsing and the Media Player sharring problem are my only issues...

I think.. but I want opinions that my issue could be Windows validation issues. I build my PC's at shows. the version I'm using was never activated. Probably patched it so I could receive Windows updates. Now my issues are all w/ (IE, OE, and WMP..) thoughts???

I don't feel like starting from wiping this clean and starting fresh.. to much time.

I have spent COUNTLESS hours trying to solve WHY my son's PC is Freezes up all the time, and I'm too broke to have a technician look at it and tell me i'm !**%&[email protected]!

This is a computer a friend gave him years ago, and had erased the hard drive. We re-installed windows on it, and it has been doing fine for years.

It's a Dell Dimension 4400, windows XP home.
It has never been hooked up to internet, so no viruses.
He plays little kid games only. (Real little kid; ZOO Tycoon is the most sophisticated.)
NO new software has been added for about almost a year.
No new hardwrae added.
It has adequate ventilation.
I have reinstalled all the drivers (keyboard, mouse and CD Rom)
Device Manager tells me everything is groovy.
There are no peripherals installed.

Some days, the thing works fine, and he can play for a couple hours.
Some days we turn the thing on and it freezes while loading!
It just freezes up at random times.
Also, the CD Drive won't allow me to write on it anymore! It will read the CD, but I can't copy files to it.
I checked the internet on my computer, but couldn't find a matching CD drive update to try to install. (doesn't mean it doesn't exist, just that I can't find it!)

When it "Freezes", I can't pull up the cntr/alt/del trick, all we can do is hit the power button. Yes, the NUM Lock is ON and doesn't go off. If we try to turn it on again, even after 5 minutes, it simply WON'T even turn o... Read more

A:Frozen Solid Quandry

I would strongly suspect hardware at this stage, rather than software.

In reality it could be anything from the PSU (Power Supply Unit) to RAM or motherboard.

That you get no error messages is salient, in that hardware is more likely than software as the culprit.

Can i add a solid state drive with out removing the other 3 .
what ssd are good buy 150 to 250 mb

A:want ro add a solid state drive to my pc

The spec sheet for your system shows three 3.5" bays so yes, you should be able to install a ssd drive however you need to check to see IF you have an unused sata port on the board AND an unused sata pw connector.
As for drives, either samsung or intel.

Hello,
Actually I saw something named solid keylogger when my antivirus software was running a scan but it didn't detect it because most antivirus softwares don't detect keyloggers(I think so). Anyways I don't remember the exact location of that keylogger but its name is "SOLID KEYLOGGER" exactly. So if any malware specialists out there know about this keylogger please assist me in removing this keylogger. Thanks in advance.
And also please ask me if you want anymore details about this issue.
