I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have a Thinkpad E550 and the built in display brightness looks too low. I have the latest video drivers for Windows 10 64bit. I first check the laptop brightness control typing the F6 key wich also have the brightness function, and the brightnes is set to 100%. Check with Windows 10 Setting App and also brightness is set to 100%. I check the battery/power setting and the "Enable adaptive brightnes" it off. Also check with the Lenovo Settings Metro App and the "Enable dynamic brightness control" is off. The resolution is set to native resolution in the case of this unit 1920x1080. Any ideas???

I recently bought Lenovo Thinkpad L380 and I see that display is very dull though it supports anti-glare. I keep it to the maximum brightness but still, I see that the display is not bright enough (No Power mode is ON). I tried changing the brightness values using the Intel Graphic Display settings but it doesn't seem working out well as it just enhances the overall brightness and the screen looks weird. Has anyone faced this kind of behavior?

Hello. My device is Lenovo Thinkpad P40 Yoga (WQHD-version, Windows 10 Pro on build 16299.192). A couple of days ago System Update 5 notified me about a pending BIOS update. I then installed LENOVO R05ET75W (1.53), 2017-12-20 and rebooted. However, some time after that I started noticing that whenever you switch between full-screen applications from, let's say, the one that uses a dark background (for example: MyTube from Microsoft Store for W10) to a browser window which has white background the screen changes brightness gradually within the next two seconds, as if it has been dimmed upon displaying darker colors. This is extremely irritating to the eyes, as you can literally see the brightness getting increased in a few short jumps and this was not the case prior to that BIOS update if I am not mistaken. The actual brightness slider remains the same! It's just the additional effect of switching from dark to bright. I haven't updated anything else besides BIOS in the last two weeks and first noticed this about a day ago. I think the BIOS update came two days ago - unfortunately it does not show up in Installed Updates history (as the BIOS update opened a separate process and did not close the System Update window prior to the reboot), so I can't say for sure, but other than that the latest update I installed was on December 30th and I haven't been experiencing the issue I described above up until recently. The automatic brightness is turned off ... I recently upgraded my W700 to a clean Win7 Pro x64 install, downloaded the latest Win7 drivers from the Lenovo website, and did a manual install of all of them. Mostly there were no problems, however the OSD for mute, volume up/down, and brightness did not work. Here is the page for the Hotkey Features Integration package, which contains the OSD program: Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bi... The problem appears to be a bug in latest version of the OSD program, for the W700. I collected data on the various versions of the OSD utility; see below (I have used the overall package version as a reference, although the OSD program itself has a different version). Here is the fix: 1) Install the latest Hotkey Features Integration package. This gets the latest other packages, plus a broken version of OSD.2) Manually uninstall the OSD program (in Control Panel:Uninstall); reboot.3) Download and install the Hotkey Features Integration package version 3.85.0000. This is last version which works fully with the W700. Run the package installer, the run the installer itself. Make sure that only the OSD component is selected; run setup; reboot. That should fix it. It appears that the bug also exists in Win XP. Here is the info I have on the various versions: 3.33.0002 - OSD Works with W7003.81.0100 - OSD Works with W7003.84.2000 - OSD Works with W7003.85.0000 - OSD Works with W700 <&l... Guys, just received a Yoga 920 FHD (1920x1080) model today. As soon as I booted it up I noticed the display wasn't very bright, and also it has a brown / yellow tint to it. I already have two other Lenovo machines, a Yoga 2 Pro and a thinkpad Yoga 12 S1 and the are both far brighter and "whiter" I have checked every setting there is and can't figure out what the issue is. Do these models just have a really poor display? Just thought I'd ask before instigating a return as it's no use for me they way it currently is. Here's a comparison against the Yoga 2 Pro which is 4 years old now. brightness at 100% and all Intel graphics settings at default. Thanks - Keith

I know this will sound trivial but I absolutely hate the display on my new Toshiba Satellite L55W-C5278.

I have owned 3 Toshiba laptops in recent years and bought a nice HP on a Black Friday sale in 2011. While I love everything else about that HP I hate the muted display colors. I knew this about it when I purchased because after owning a Toshiba I decided to not go back to HP and that was one of the very reasons. Still, I always run 2 laptops and I only needed 1 for recreation so I thought it worth the sacrifice to get the HP as my secondary laptop.

For my newest recreational (main) laptop I decided to see if I was limited to Toshiba or if I could find another brand that I liked all the important features of. I shopped for months and discovered that only economically priced laptops geared toward video game enthusiasts (not "gamer's", that's a whole other level) offered the specs and affordability I was after. Unfortunately only Asus and Toshiba had the vivid bright colors I'd grown spoiled by with my years of Satelitte ownership.

After putting off the purchase for 2 years because I loved my old Satellite so much that I couldn't bear to retire it, I bought a new open box deal on this L55W-C5278. I have tinkered with calibration and even with the Intel HD graphics and nothing helps make the colors vivid like my older Toshiba's.

My daughters Asus Q503UA-BHI5T16, however, has the perfect vivid display colors I want and uses the same graphics as my Toshiba. It als... Read more

Hi everyone,
I just got my new laptop a couple days ago. Today at school, I was using my laptop and then at about 10% battery life, the display went very dull to save battery. Well the laptop battery then ran out not long after, and I just turned it off untill I got home just now and plugged it back in. Well, now even afters its charged, the screen is still very dull and looks like its still in the mode to save battery. I cant find out how to change it back so its nice and bright and normal. I changed the performance thing from battery saving to high performance, and I checked in control panel to try and find out where the option would be to turn it back to normal, but I cant find it.

Some one pleaes help, I cant use my laptop like this and its really annoying! I want my normal bright screen back!

I think its something to do with this stupid vista but I cant find the problem!

EDIT:
Someone on another forum solved this for me. Its pressing the funcion f9 buttons together will get your display back to normal, if anyone else has this problem

I have an M1330 with the Intel graphics and the LED backlit display. I'm running Windows Seven RC1. I cannot adjust the brightness of the display at all in Windows Seven - it doesn't matter if I use the FN+Up / FN+Down keys, the brightness option slider bar in Windows, or adjust it in bios. The back light is either at 100% brightness, or it's off completely.
Anybody know of a fix for this?

A:Why can't I adjust the display brightness on my M1330? (using Win7 & LED backlit display)

This is a beta operating system - presumably the problem will be fixed before late October when WIn 7 is released.  For now, you cannot expect a manufacturer to support an OS that has yet to be released.

On my IBM Thinkpad T43, the brightness controls no longer work. Pressing Fn+Home/End is supposed to lower/raise the setting, and it used to, but no longer does. It's also supposed to lower or raise the brightness depending on what power it is running on, but no longer does that, either.

I tried restoring to my original XP image, where it worked fine, but it still does nothing. Given that it used to work anywhere (BIOS, etc) I'm beginning to think it has nothing to do with XP's setup, but I can't seem to find a BIOS setting that makes a difference, either.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Joe

Hi all, I would like to share my recent experience of Thinkpad X1 carbon (4th 2016) screen brightness problem, and how this problem been solved. The laptop cames good and the F5 and F6 function for screen brightness adjusting is OK. Other methods, like in the setting menu and battery menu,  to adjust the brightness are all OK.After one hour or one day or some short time, you will find you cannot adjust the brightness. Even the battery & power options are not working. The problem comes from the driver. First I thought it is the problem of driver of monitor (wide viewing angle high density flexview display 2560x1440 driver). I uninstall, update, change...but none of them work. Finally, I find it is the problem of intel hd graphics 520 . There is another evidence that during the time only this driver of intel hd graphics 520 has been updated automaticly to the latest version! So I uninstall and roll back to the version 20.19.15.4331 and the problem is solved.I did not check the lates version of this driver. But I am sure that the latest version of intel hd graphics 520 has conflict with the lenovo driver for screen brightness! I am sure there are other people face the same problem after the update of hd graphics 520 driver. Any engineer please check it!

Hi itt788.

Welcome to our community forums.

Could you try these generic steps on how to set the brightness in Linux?

If the laptop's default brightness adjustment keys are not working, then add a boot time linux kernel parameter and try again.

1. First open up the /etc/default/grub file with your favorite text editor as root.

sudo nano /etc/default/grub

2.Find the line staring with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=, most probably there will be the word quiet also. (see the image attached).

3. Add a few words there, acpi_backlight=vendor all inside the double quote.

4. Save and exit the text editor and then reboot the laptop.

The acpi_backlight kernel parameter options are not just limited to vendor, and it's guaranteed to work.

You might have to experiment with other options like native and none . After rebooting if the brightness adjustment hotkeys are working then you can set a laptop's brightness with the xbacklight command.

If it's not installed, then install it with apt, sudo apt-get install xbacklight , and then run the command like below.

xbacklight -set 20 # set brightness to 20%
Keep us posted on how it goes.

Hello.  I've had this laptop for about two weeks and the screen is quite dim.  I've manually changed the brightness to the max level and it isn't very bright.  I've google this problem many times and have tried a lot of things, but nothing has worked.  One of the key things that I've discovered is that this laptop don't seem to have an ambient light sensor....is that correct?  If it did have, I think I would like to turn it off.  But I can't verify that I even have such a sensor. Any tips are very much appreciated.  Thank you.

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and all went well except for the screen brightness issue. Anyone have any ideas where I can simply increase this as I have searched everywhere for screen brightness, even BIOS for any setting for display. I have latest update to display driver. I have two other laptops and each shows much brighter than this one and I am surely disappointed in this display. Not sure if it is because this screen is touch enabled and also works off keyboard that could be the issue and a separate setting could be involved on the touch side of the display as it does work with a stylus pen or touch also. thanks and   I hope I can get this brightness to increase somewhat as it is too hazy for me.

When I'm watching any sort of video on my laptop, whether it is Netflix, YouTube, or something on VLC, I have noticed a slight change in the coloring and brightness of the video, usually when there are subtitles, annotations, or even when I mouse over the screen. It goes from a darker coloring to a much brighter coloring and it is very distracting. It is extremely irritating to me and I have scoured the settings on each website and on the control panel of the computer and I can't seem to find a solution. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone else have a solution? I can't stand to watch videos like this and this laptop is brand new. I've included pictures of the difference in coloring for reference. The first photo is normal and the second picture is the color change when I mouse over the screen. The first and only bug so far I have encountered with my P51: Out of the box, the machine is set with the Hybrid mode in BIOS, meaning it switches between the Intel GPU and the Nvidia Quadro M2200 (Optimus). I want my machine to always use the discrete GPU, so I switch to Discrete mode in the BIOS. This however means that you can no longer change the screen brightness of the internal screen, it is always set at 100 %. Definitely seems like a driver bug. I have tried reinstalling Windows already, same result: With the Hybrid mode I can change the screen brightness, with the discrete mode I canīt.

Best anyone can say for those settings is whatever is the most comfortable and looks best to you. No two monitors will look the same, and what someone else uses can and will in most cases be totally inappropriate for you.

You can make the adjustments using the settings in the CCC, or you can uses the controls built in to the monitor and run through Windows display calibration wizard,

By this i mean when i attempt to adjust the brightness of the screen by holding FN and Left or Right arrow, nothing happens. Before i updated, an on screen indicator came on the screen showing me if i was decreasing or increasing the brightness, now nothing??? Any ideas. Sorry if this is a noobie mistake. Many thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

Hi,

Check to make sure you've updated all your drivers to their respective Windows 7-compatible counterparts, so head over to where you originally downloaded the updated drivers for your touchpad (presumably the Samsung website somewhere) and see if there's anything there that can help.

Hope this helps.
