Preferred Solution: Bitlocker Issue with X270

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, after activating Bitlocker in GPEDIT.MSC and then in system settings, Windows 10 Pro on my X270 says that Bitlocker cannot be activated as the Bitlocker-Encryption key cannot be read out of the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) together with the PIN. This message came up after the first test during the restart (German Windows 10 Pro Edition). What can I do and does anyone know where is the issue? Best regardsGerk

Hi,  I have an x270 and I use a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Ultra Dock. I am using Windows 8.1 When I have the lid closed and it is docked, its fine but if I need to undock the laptop to go to a meeting for example and open the lid, the screen is black and wont do anything. If I plug the laptop back into the dock, it comes back only on the external monitors but the laptop screen itself is still black. The only way to get around this is to restart the laptop but this is a pain if I am going to a meeting and need the documents that I have just prepared. I have done the following so far and no success yet:- Updated the laptops graphics driver - using Lenovo System Update- Updated the Ultra dock driver- Updated DisplayLink driver Has anyone come across this issue before or know how to resolve it? Thank you

Hello, I have a Thinkpad x270 laptop running Windows 10.Laptop is connected to external DELL P2719H monitor through HDMI cable. Resolution is Full HD. I am using wireless keyboard and mouse.I have updated all the drivers in 2 steps - first, I did "Windows Updates", and then, second, I went through all devices in "Device Manager" in order to update all the remaining drivers.  Problem is the following -  my display has flickering issues. Generally it happens when I move the mouse. You can see this on the video below. Flickering on the video bellow happens when I go over the small video built-in into the website. This happens couple of times per day. I thought that it might be caused by wireless mouse or HDMI cable or Display, but my testing showed thata) similar flickering issues sometimes happen with mouse turned OFF and disconnected from the laptop andb) I don't experience such issues with the same HDMI cable, same DELL P2719H display, but with different laptop running Windows 7. So I think it might be caused by x270 or Windows 10 problems. What are your thoughts? What troubleshooting steps could be made?

We have tried replacing hard drives, re-imaging, clearing the TPM, and re-encrypting. Nothing seems to help. Windows updates are complete, and the firmware or other drivers seem up to date. The units tested have no usb peripherals, or other oddities. It is completely random. We chose to bitlocker the used space and as new, using newer encryption and older. It seems nothing is preventing the bitlocker recovery on boot to randomly appear. Usually what fixes it is a power off and on, and it goes away *sometimes*. No errors or any indicators otherwise. Hello everyone,

Thank you for coming and looking at this issue. I recently did a sweep of my drivers, this ended with several BIOS and other driver system updates being done. Somewhere, I'm assuming the BIOS flash, caused the need for my need for my Bitlocker Recovery Key.

Honestly, I made a mistake on the executable thumb drive and took me the last 12 hours to find the Recovery Key. Now that I have the recovery key, suddenly my usb keyboard decides it will not work. I have tried every port combination I could think of and nothing will work. I attach it to the laptop I am using and it is working fine, so it has something to do with the computer.

I'm hoping someone here could help me with some idea on how to fix this? I have the correct key to unlock the drive and everything would work fine again, just the keyboard doesn't want to work for me now on the desktop.

Thanks in advance to any answers, I will be standing by for any advice or help.

The problem came yesterday: i powered on the laptop , put in my password, windows started to load but just befor it got to the desktop i got a bsod (for a fraction of a second) and a restart.  And now it does that everytime i power it on, so i tried
to get in it with safe mode but bitlocker asks for a recovery key that let's just say i don't have it anymore(it was on a usb stick that i used to install windows so the key got erased)
How the hell do i get my data back without the recovery key but i know the password set for bitlocker

Hi guys,

I've got issue with my bitlocker...
it's win 7 ent 32 bit.

i had bluescreen of death and now i'm unable to start windows anymore.

if i choose to start windows normally, it would just restart after the windows splash screen
if i choose safe mode or any other, it will ask for the bit locker key

the bitlocker txt file that contains the key doesn't have the same recovery id as what it's shown on the screen. So I'm pretty much stuffed here i think.
Can anyone advise me of the best way to recover my data?

If I have another hdd that i can new fresh win 7 with, then attach the first hdd that i'm trying to recover, if I re apply bitlocker then, will I be able to access my files then?

if this won't work, please advise me a solution. thanks

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey people, I'm kind of desperate here.
So, I was encrypting my external hard drive with BitLocker on Vista Ultimate, and I put on my password and such, and the power in the house went out when it was about 12% done. My internal hard drive somehow died, so I got a new one and installed Vista Ultimate. Now, however, when I try and access the external hard drive, I get an error message stating: "Error Recovering Disk E: There is no recovery password information on this volume. Any Ideas? And if you do have ideas, please tell me how to use them. How do you use the Bitlocker repair tool, for example? It's a windows update thing!
Please help, as this is VERY urgent. All of my programs, files, and work is on that hard drive!

Hello Antares,

Does your PC's motherboard have a TPM.
Did you do steps like in the tutorial below?
BitLocker - Turn On or Off for OS Drive in Windows 8
If so, then this would be normal if you have the USB flash drive connected while the PC boots. When the PC boots, it will automatically read the startup key from the connected USB flash drive, and allows Windows 8 to start.
Hope this helps,

Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had encountered Bitlocker and TPM issues recently (possibly after a recent update)?
Just a few days ago every time I wake up my XPS 9360 it would ask me to input my recovery keys.
As this is getting annoying, I disabled Bitlocker altogether but somehow I can no longer enable it, it's saying "This device cannot use a Trusted Platform Module".
I've also checked Device Manager, I can see the TPM under Security Devices with the following message: "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)"
It appears the TPM feature just disappeared.

It's kind of similar to the discussion on the link below, but they're talking about 9550

I've already tried flashing the BIOS with the same version 1.3.2 but still no TPM.
Dell Support is not very helpful either, still waiting for their reply.

Thanks,

Hey all.

Here's a little backstory and then my problem.

I like storing certain things in the cloud. I believe in the storing things in 3 rule so I generally have whatever I need on my PC, on my NAS and then in the cloud in various services. I have nothing sinister/evil/bad to hide - but there are of course sensitive files I'd rather not allow with welcome arms, hackers who may happen to bumble into my folder when doing their foolishness to get at these sensitive files.

Generally my goto program is Truecrypt, but that is no more so I'm messing with Bitlocker. For the most part Bitlocker has worked for me, however recently something has changed. I'm the only person that uses my PC in my household. Everyone else has their own device(s) so this is a mystery to me. I definitely haven't changed anything. I haven't even changed or installed any software in sometime, certainly not between when Bitlocker worked and then stopped working for me.

So I created my vhd and encrypted it a while back. I used to just open it and get asked my password and the drive would pop into the hard drive list so I could open and use it. Well, now I get an error. I don't know if this is so much bitlocker as something else, but it really only affects Bitlocker encrypted files in a negative way.
This is the window I get.

I have tried creating new vhd's, vhdx's, fixed and dynamic. etc. After creating and encryption the drive works fine. The issue is after I dismount. When I mount it, I get a mount ... Read more

A:Unusual Bitlocker Issue (Location is not available, etc).

I don't know the answer to your question, but you said you like storing things in 3. Therefore, I assume that means you have one Bitlocker encrypted VHD(X), which you have backed up/stored in 3 locations?

Therefore, I'm wondering whether the error you're getting is because there are three identical versions of the same VHD and that's confusing Windows, because all three will be exactly the same files, with exactly the same drive letters when mounting, but stored on different harddrives.

I'm not sure how you'd test this theory, maybe make sure your PC can't see the other two versions, then mount/eject just the one on your local machine, reboot, and try again. If the VHD mounts fine with no error, then maybe try mounting one of the other two and seeing if this causes the error message to return.

If it is this causing the error, I'm not sure how to rectify it because the whole purpose of syncing between 3 locations is that you have 3 exact versions of the same VHD. Unfortunately, that will mean the VHD's are going to have the same drive letter assigned too...

Mmm, let us know what you find.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I recently upgraded my windows 8.1 to windows 8.1 pro as I wanted to enable bitlocker encryption on the laptop.

The issue is that I can't seem to enable or find bitlocker in any of the area's outlined. When I try to right click on the C: drive I don't have an option for bitlocker. When I go into control panel, there's no bitlocker icon. When I do a search on the machine for bitlocker I do get a "manage bitlocker" icon, but it's doesn't do anything when I click on it.

I have followed the tutorial on this site and downloaded/installed the reg files to enable it on a non tpm device. Can see that they did update the policy on the machine, but still no joy.

When I go into PC info on the machine in question I don't see anything about bitlocker. It's like it's not there. Do you have to add a windows feature to enable it?

Thanks

The organization I work for have been building ThinkPad L560 models for a while now using SCCM 2012 R2 and pulling down Windows 7 32-bit images over our network. The task sequence enables BitLocker on those L560 at the very end. During the setup of an L560 you have to go into the BIOS and select DISCRETE TPM option and then PXE over the network when settings are saved. All works OK. Recently we took delivery of a newer model we had never set up before ? an L570. The BIOS allows a 2 way choice for TPM which I gather from the user manual directs one to select TPM 1.2 for Windows 7 and TPM 2.0 for Windows 10. We are still dealing with Windows 7 so I chose TPM 1.2 in the BIOS and cleared the key and built the new model using PXE to SCCM servers and the laptop built and BitLocker is enabled and the finally built laptop looks OK. The problem comes when I do a restart ? it is looking for the entry of the BitLocker Recovery Key. Furthermore it is erratic in the asking for this entry ? sometimes it asks for it and sometimes it does not ? and it can be asked for on a simple warm restart or a power down and cold restart. Nobody is changing the BIOS so how does it think a change has taken place. I have also done the Suspend Protection followed a few minutes later by Resume Protection procedure but this does not make the problem go away. 3. tried changing the drive letter .
4. Unlock + disk defrag .
5. no suspend or resume option available for drive in bitlocker settings.
6. Run chkdsk /f /r also, no issues reported.
Issue remains same no icons display for unlock or lock drive , no right lick option to unlock & getting same above error while double click on a drive . However I have checked it still shows drive as encrypted so it's mean encryption is sill running fine.

Drive D is encrypted however from last few days the lock icon displayed on the drive is missing and it is being displayed as unknown file system (Bitlocker Encrypted) in diskmgmt.

While try to open the drive getting error location is not available & access denied , no option to unlock it through right click . Only I can unlock it via opening bitlocker from control panel or through elevated cmd manage-bde -unlock D:
Tried All scenarios.

Hi,

I have a requirement where I need to move the user profiles to D:\ drive on separate partition. I have followed one of the link from tenforums and successfully able to move user folder to d. Now I have another require to encrypt the d: with bitlocker and when I do that, user doesnt recognise any user authentication. It doesn't even allow local admin to enter. It says: "The User Profile Service Failed The Sign-in. User Profile Cannot Be Loaded.". When i disable and remove the bitlocker from d: everything works fine. Is this a limitation with Microsoft or am I doing some wrong? Please help.
