Vertical lines on monitor looks 3d.

Q: Vertical lines on monitor looks 3d.

I have vertical lines on my desktop pc. It looks 3d. It is not the monitor I checked that. It says it could be the video card. I dont think i have a video card. It is factory and the monitor cable is plugged in to a little box that is hooked on the mother board. What can I do to fix this. Do I need a video card installed, will that fix it?

Preferred Solution: Vertical lines on monitor looks 3d.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Vertical lines on monitor looks 3d.

Hardware brand and model?

If it's displays images on a monitor, then it has a video chipset, regardless of whether it's an actual video card. And yes, most graphical display issues like this are typically a faulty video chipset or the power supply.

My monitor shows vertical lines that cover the height of the view area at random times. This event pretty much renders my machine useless so I'm forced to reboot it everytime this happens.

Here are the specs on my machine...
- Windows XP Pro OS
- 1 gig or ram
- Pentium 3, 900mhz processor
- video card used is built in to the motherboard
- video driver is Nvidia Alladin TNT2

I've done a search on this forum and others and have found some possible solutions (included are my attempts at the solution) such as...

1) replacing video card (have not been attempted yet, thought about purchasing a new ATI video card, and if all else fails, maybe a new system)

2) updating video drivers (tried to but can't find new drivers either for the video card or the monitors for use with XP, was able to find some for older OS's though)

3) switching monitors (tried a TTX 1775 and a Samtron 75V, same problem, next I'm going to try my Apple ColorSync monitor after I find an adapter)

Mind you, I'm not sure how well these solutions apply to my case since there are no pictures included with the posts that I have read regarding similar issues. Therefore I've added a link to show what exactly is going on (no this is not an ad of any sort, just copy and paste the path below to your browser address line)...

Thanks in advance for any assistance in the matter.

I have a 17" Korea Data Systems monitor. I has just started getting gray vertical lines all the way across the screen where ever there is any kind of wording. the lines are only as wide as the words. Is it my monitor or is the video card going bad? I think the monitor is about 4 years old.

A:Vertical lines on monitor

First thing to do is to hook it up to another computer to see which it is. If it does the same thing on another computer, it is to replace it. It would probably cost more than a new one to get it repaired.

Ig it does not do it on another computer, I would reinstall the drivers for the video card and monitor first and if that does not do it then replace the video card.

hi
I accidently dropped my monitor whilest carrying it down very steep stairs. After that it now has vertical lines across the screen. Also there's a part of the screen that looks darker. When you first turn on the monitor this area is small but then it goes bigger.

Is this repairable? Is it likely that I would have to replace the lcd module itself? It's a good few years old.

I suspect it also has an issue with the light source as well because sometimes it has trouble lighting up the screen. But generally as it heats up it's brighter.

To be honest I'm getting a new one but am just curious. Also I've always had an interest in electronics. Also is repairing this potientially dangerous? It's only 12V and at less than 5amps.

A:TFT monitor with vertical lines

For what you can buy monitors for these days, it's cheaper to replace-unless it's some sort of big screen. If you see vertical lines, that tells me the module is gone, which over time, LCD's do that anyway.

Ok, so I returned the old monitor that was giving me a weird brown spot near the bottom. However, the new monitor has white lines going down the middle of it (very faint mind you) and a discoleration near the edges. The monitor is a viewsonic (not great, but not terrible) and I doubt I would get two faulty ones in a row. AND, I do not notice these defects during the "windows Loading screen". So, is it simply video card settings? I have a new Radeon 9200. Any advice?

As of last night, my desktop PC - Packard Bell - is not sending the proper signals to my monitor. All I get are vertical lines. I've tried the monitor on my laptop and the monitor works fine. What do I need to do to remedy the problem?

A:Monitor vertical lines

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Do these lines occur from the moment you turn the PC on? i.e. even on the POST screen before Windows even starts to load?

If yes, then the most likely cause is a failed graphics card.

Images from my year-old monitor's camera have six very thin vertical lines, running top of the screen to the bottom, each a single color. System is XPS 8700, monitor is Dell UltraSharp 23" Multimedia Monitor, camera is UZ2315H. Using an external camera eliminates the problem.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this would be much appreciated.

A:Vertical lines on monitor screen

If you have another system to try, see if the monitor causes problems with that system.  If it does, the camera or cable inside the display is likely bad.  If not, and the camera connects to the PC through a USB cable, try a different USB cable or USB port - if you still see the same result, the camera is bad.  Cheapest solution is to use a different camera. Otherwise, it's likely the monitor needs to be replaced.

You may need to post more info for someone to be able to help you, things like what vid card you have, what size power supply you use and your monitor settings, screen resolution and things like that. All of these can affect your monitors display in some way. Hope this will help you out a little.

Video drivers corrupt, reinstall the video drivers or better yet find a upgraded driver
Processor or video card overheating. Clean out case with compressed air, check the fans and make sure they are working properly.

I recently purchased an ASUS VH197D LED monitor, which is connected via VGA. I've been having problems with the monitor where there are vertical strips of blurry/fuzzy pixels across the screen. These move around when I auto-adjust the monitor, so I know it's not damaged or dirty screen. Here are some images:

I downloaded the most recent driver for the graphics card (Catalyst), which hasn't helped, and since downloading this it doesn't allow me to select the native screen resolution for the monitor 1366 x 768 anymore. The nearest option is 1360 x 768.

I've tried replacing the VGA cable, no joy.

I've contacted ASUS - they were a ball of rubbish, and suggested pressing the reset button.

Do you guys know what might be causing this? I'll be so grateful, as this has consumed my week!!

Here is my problem:

Happened shortly after installing some windows updates although I have no idea if it is related.

Basically the screen has a number of vertical blue lines, when you move the mouse around you can see the individual dots changing.

However it comes on randomly and dissapears when I install / uninstall anything. It does come back though randomly a bit later.

It dissapears when you reboot but can come back within 10mins to several hours.

Have updated gfx card drivers etc no luck.

Is this a problem with the monitor (tried changing phase and clock) or the graphics card?

Thanks for your time!

System:

Windows xp pro sp2
Radeon 9500 Pro (Yes the card is old but it has served me very well and I have no need for high end video card)
Hanns G 19" LCD (~ 1 year old)

A:Gfx Card or Monitor? (vertical blue lines)

Definitely the graphics card if it shows up in a screenshot. If it's a separate card, try removing it and reseating it. If reseating it doesn't work, and you have tried a different driver (that is, actually updated it instead of reinstalling the same version), then it probably just needs to be replaced. That screenshot looks like a textbook failure.

Dear all,

I have a peculiar issue with my Dell Desktop with an ATI 3200 GPU.

When I boot the system there are fuzzy vertical lines (approx 1cm across) on the screen.

If I change the resolution (preferred is 1600x900) to a lower resolution, and then back again - the screen is normal without any faint lines and continues this way till I again reboot the machine.

Have tried 4 different versions of the driver (from Dell & AMD) and the issue remains.

Any ideas?

My Toshiba M35 Satellite laptop was purchased in 2003. Just recently it started showing faint vertical green dotted lines on the screen that tend to become worse the longer the computer is used. After about 30 minutes of use the lines become so bad that they distort words and pictures to the point where the computer must be shut down. If the machine has been used for an "extended" period of time (30 minutes), the screen will be completely black when attempting to restart windows. I am able to hear it restart (the signature Windows sound) but nothing appears on the screen. If the computer sits for an hour or longer it can then be restarted and the same process occurs. When I hook the laptop up to an external monitor the same problems occur. Other symptoms that have come along with these problems include:

1. Glitches on the Windows startup screen during boot-up.
2. After extended use internet browser becomes non-functional, i.e. when trying to scroll up and down only about 1/4 of the browser actually moves.

I have scanned the system in normal and safe mode using two different anti-virus programs and have found nothing. I have also opened the computer and dusted using a can of air, although, the inside looked very clean. I would appreciate any advice!

A:monitor shows vertical green dotted lines

Try booting in safe mode and if the green lines disappear, then its your video driver and you need to reinstall it

Greetings.

I have a problem with my LED monitor and I'm not sure where should this be posted (either as hardware or software), so I put it here.

The thing goes as follow, I bought a samsung syncmaster SA 300 LED monitor for my pc about a year and a half ago, (and so, is now out of guarantee). I havent had problems with it previously, but recently, flashing white stripes have started appearing on the display, particularly when the monitor is showing black or dark colors and when I just turned it on.

Also it's been getting worse as time passes (first it would only happen on first few seconds after turning it on, but now it happens whenever dark colors are abundant on the screen), wich makes me think this could be my monitor telling me it's about to die.

I would really apreciate if you could help me sort this out and, if this is in fact a hardware issue, if repairing is viable (possible and it won't cost me more than half of the monitor original cost) or if I should start saving for a new one (crap). I do recall having read on some tech magazine that LED monitors are more "repairable" than CRT and LCD ones, so I can only hope it's not something bad.

Thank you very much in advance for whatever time and help you can provide me for my problem.

After about 5 years my Tecra S5 is encountering problems with it's graphics card.
Most of the time the (internal and an external via VGA connected) monitor displays vertical lines, and windows gives an Error 43 on the card.

I was wondering if there is a way to fix this, and if this problem might be fixed under warranty (altough the warranty perod has expired 3 years ago.) .

A:Re: Tecra S5-15Q - monitor displays vertical lines/Error 43 for GPU

In my opinion it is hardware malfunction and as far as I know only way to fix it is mainboard exchange. I don?t have this notebook model but I can presume that GPU is fixed on mainboard and cannot be exchanged separately.

Fixed under warranty? Of course.

Happy Labor day everyone,

I just got back from a 3 day vacation to find that my dell monitor has some odd vertical lines showing up. These lines do not show up on my second monitor (an envision) and they are incredibly annoying.

It seems that the lines appear depending on what window is running. If I have the devices and printers window open, there are random blue lines that go through my entire screen. If I bring up the start menu, then there are green/yellow lines that go up to the height of the start menu, not the entire screen. In both cases, the lines show up through the entire screen horizontally, but not vertically (but these are vertical lines).

I am unable to take a picture because a) my camera sucks b) these lines do not appear in screenshots. Because of this and the fact that my other monitor does not have the problem, I am assuming that the issue is the fact that the monitor is quitting on me. I have had the monitor for a number of years, so that would not surprise me. I just want to get a second opinion on the subject.

Thanks guys!

Hello Every One
I have Windows 8 with Outlook 2007 as e-mail.
In the old XP days when ever I received e-mail with that annoying vertical line down the side of the page it was simple enough to get rid of them by using the instructions below. Now of course in this modern world things are different with tool bars turning into ribbons. When I open the e-mail there is no View.
Can some one, if it's possible convert the XP instructions below into Windows 8 please. arram.

Lets see if this helps: Open the email and click Forward: Now, click View on the Menu Bar: Now look for SOURCE at the bottom tab and click: Now look through the SOURCE CODE and find a selection that starts with something called <BLOCKQUOTE>Now, if there is one line in the email you should see it once. For each blue line you will see it listed. Highlight each line in the screenshot below and delete:

A:Vertical Lines

Have you tried this?

There is another way in Outlook to do this which is even easier. Outlook has keyboard shortcuts to “Clear Formatting”: CTRL+SHIFT+Z or CTRL+SPACEBAR. Either of these methods will remove the blue vertical line.

If this is a company computer I would suggest calling the company IT department to fix this, this would not only save you from getting into trouble but will save you from getting into trouble.

If you are getting video until it starts booting into Windows the problem sounds like a bum video driver but not being familiar with the specs on this particular computer or whether it is on a network or not it is just a guess.

It might be the graphic card it seems that those vertical red lines are artifacts or it could be software related to the graphic card, I just had a similar issue but the red lines where horizontal. But mine was way worst it would shut down and show a blue screen telling me and error that points to the graphic card.

Try reinstalling the software for your graphic card, see how that works.

Have you heard weird noises of the fan before that?
By the way how old is your graphic card, wich type of graphic card and how do you use it. ?

I have a Dell Latitude that I replaced a backlight and inverter on, but now there are two vertical lines on the left hand side of the screen, purple and green. What is the source of these lines and what do I need to do to get rid of them?

A:Two Vertical Lines on LCD Screen

How wide are the lines? If they are just a pixel or so wide then a colum or two of pixels may be dead, and you'd need to replace the screen to resolve that issue as far as I know.

I bought an ATI 64Mb videocard Saphire 7000 that worked great for a couple months, then a few weeks ago when I play games (WW2 Fighters/Shogo), after a few minutes the screen is covered with dark vertical lines. Surfing the net and other activities work fine, just the games. I have to restart the computer to get rid of the lines. I have reloaded the driver, reinstalled the card, switched power supplies. My computer is pretty ancient, 350Mhz P2, 10G HD, 392 Mb EEC Sdram 2x AGP win98se Intel chipset. Any ideas???

I have almost an identical card, ATI built, and never experienced what you describe. I'm not a gamer, but I did notice that attempting to do 3D benchmarking on the card, the display would go crazy. I've since upgraded to a newer card.

You might try posting your question on the Rage 3D forum, which focuses on ATI cards of all types. I'm fairly certain someone there might be able to help you out.

Good luck.

Chris

Do the lines still appear in safe mode? It could be a monitor or graphics card problem.

I hope someone here will be able to help, or at least tell me what the problem is.

I'm using an Acer monitor (AL1916W). It's about two months old, give or take a week, bought new. It was working fine until this morning, when the screen occasionally flickered before fading into single and multi-pixel vertical coloured lines. I don't have a picture, but the coloured lines are the same colours as my desktop wallpaper (greens and browns, mostly) and fill the screen.

I turned the monitor off and turned it on again. The display was fine for about ten seconds before it faded into the vertical lines again. Changed resolution and refresh rate - same thing. Restart - same thing. Changed cables - same thing.

Everything else works fine - I'm using the computer to listen to some music at the moment, with the monitor off. I tested a game and a few other programs and they worked fine, with the exception of the display.

Specs: Athlon 64 3200+, ABIT AV-8, Radeon 9550 128MB, 1GB RAM. Most of the parts are between 1-2 months old.

If it isn't already painfully obvious, I'm not that great with computers

hi, does the vertical line always stays there and it doesnt disappear no matter how many pictures do you choose? if its true, maybe the only way to remove this line is to check and use the ATI catalyst software. (sometimes the trouble come when its there and vice-versa)
btw if you find a same vertical line in other monitor under same pc, its definitely the ati9550 problem and the problem come similar to me using M9700.

My mother-in-laws calls me today with a compter problem. She says it has blue vertical lines on the monitor and won't complete the boot cycle. I told her to power down and wait several minutes for a cool down. Then I had her try and boot in safe mode but it still wouldn't boot. The end result is, as she describes, a fuzzy screen with blue vertical line. What do I do next?

thanks,
Lenny

You're probably going to have to visit Mom. Bring another monitor with you. If it works, the monitor is bad. If not it needs a new video card.

I bought a new 19" Hyundai L90D+ LCD monitor a couple months ago. It worked great for the first few weeks, then I saw a red line, 1 pixel wide, about 3" from the right hand side of the screen. Over the next week or two, 15 or 20 more lines appeared in various colors in the same area on the right side of the screen, making the monitor completely unusable. I returned it to the warranty service center and received a refurbished one in return (advance service was quick, thankfully).

After 2-3 weeks of very light use (holiday travel), this new monitor is showing a blue line in exactly the same place as before. I'm expecting additional lines to appear in the next few days.

I'm running a GeForce 6800 GT 256MB. In both cases, the lines appeared regardless of whether I used DVI or analog input. The lines do not appear on my old analog monitor.

So......I'm going to line up another replacement from Hyundai. But in the meantime, does anyone have any experience with this? Have I just been unlucky? Do Hyundai monitors just suck in general?

A:Vertical lines on Hyundai LCD?

I have an old monitor here with a blue line, but it was about three years old when it happened. My wife still uses it, and claims it doesn't bother her at all. You have been pretty unlucky, because that's not a normal failure, especially twice!
