I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a windows 7 PC with Asus m5a99fx motherboard. I can go into sleep mode manually from the shutdown button, but it won't go automatically from setting it up in power options. I have tried going to Advanced Settings and adjusting multimedia settings, and turning off Media Streaming in network settings. Nothing has worked to allow auto sleep mode. I also have the latest driver for my ATI Radeon HD 5450 video card. When I go to CMD and put in "powercfg -energy" I get a message that says energy efficiency problems were found, 8errors, 4 warnings, 14 informational. Anyone have any suggestions?

If you have a programmable keyboard or some other convenient way to launch commands you can use this command to put your system to sleep immediately:

I've been having this problem for quite a while, whenever my PC automatically goes into sleep mode (30 mins in my case), Windows crashes, and my PC reboot, I know this because when I log back in, all my programs and windows were closed, and Chrome report an unexpected shutdown (or something like that).

I checked the Event Viewer, and it seems I have Event 41 (Kernel-Power) problem, I've been searching for the solution for the past few months, but no luck of solving this particular problem.

Specs: (None of these components are overclocked, I've never overclock this system before either.)
Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit)
Core i5-4690K @ stock clock
Gigabyte Z97-UD3H Motherboard
GTX970 @ stock clock
8GB Kingston HyperX Fury 1866MHz @ stock clock
250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD
EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 PSU

I, however, solved the problem that my PC would behave the same when I manually put it into sleep (Start -> power -> Sleep), so now my PC goes into sleep and waking up just fine if I manually put it into sleep.

TL;DR: Windows 8.1 Pro crashes and PC reboot when it automatically enter sleep mode, but it's fine if I manually put into sleep mode.

Hello everybody.

Since a few days my PC developed an unusual behaviour: it goes to sleep mode at random intervals !!
It is very annoying and sometimes it does that at windows start up for several times...

I had microsoft security essential installed and read on some forums that it could be the reason for this problem: I unistalled that.
Then I run online scanned from ESET nd Bitdefender: all clean.

Then I installed avas free edition (as I was without any anti-virus software). Did a complete system scan with no problem.

I messed up with the power consumpion settings with no results.

The only solution I could find was to use the software "Dontsleep.exe" which I found googling around: it works !!

Anyway I am quite sure that I contracted a very annoying new kind of infection but I am unable to pinpoint the source of the problem.

I looked up all the running services and application at windows sturtup and disabled a lot of them with no results.

What else can I do ??

A:My PC goes to sleep mode automatically

Dudes, no one eveb replied to me but I figured out the problem anyway !!

It was the keyboard chord (inside the casa) which activated the sllep button at the slightes movement !!

Replaced keybord, problem fixed...

Hi,

For the last couple of weeks, I've observed that my HP Pavilion (Vista SP2) goes into sleep mode but 'awakens' by itself without any external action/contact. I don't have a wireless keyboard/mouse either. Often, happens after an interval of 10+ minutes or so. Sometimes (rarely) it happens a second after its gone into sleep mode.

I've checked my ethernet settings etc. and don't suspect that to be the case since I've not made any changes to that for the last 2 years. Kindly have a look at my HijackThis log and let me know if you see anything suspicious.

For the past few weeks my computer (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit) will not go to sleep automatically, but will if I do it manually. I did several things but still have not solved the issue.

1. I scanned with the command prompt and I got these results:

Errors
System Availability Requests:System Required Request
The device or driver has made a request to prevent the system from automatically entering sleep.
Driver Name \FileSystem\srvnet

Platform Power Management Capabilities:PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) Disabled
PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known incompatibility with the hardware in this computer.

2. I changed the setting in network properties to: Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power.

3. I ran powercfg -requests on cmd.exe and got this:

SYSTEM:
[DRIVER] \FileSystem\srvnet
An active remote client has recently sent requests to this machine.

Can anybody give me any advice so that I can get back the availability of automatically going into sleep?

Thanks,
Ellen

A:Sleep mode stopped occurring automatically

Open an elevated command prompt and run this command:
powercfg -requestsoverride DRIVER \FileSystem\srvnet system

You can copy that command and paste it into the cmd prompt window.

You can then enter this command to list the current Power Request overrides:
powercfg -requestsoverride

Hi,after reading most of the posts here my problem is still not solved (having the latest BIOS version 1.38). However, what appeared to be randomly happening I could now repeat. Scenario:X1 is in docking station and under power. I close the lid and the system goes into sleep mode. I have an USB bluetooth mouse connected with the dock. When I move the mouse nothing happens (in the older BIOS version the system came out of sleep mode). When I push the right or left mouse button the system gets out of sleep. When I now open the lid they system is instantly on (new sleep mode). HOWEVER when I do nothing and leave the lid closed the system goes after time again in sleep mode. But when I open the lid (the next day) the system has performed an automatic reboot! I can reproduce that behaviour over night easily but do not know exactly when the reboot has taken place. When the lid is closed and nothing is done to the mouse the system wakes up the other day normally when the lid is opened. Any thoughts? BestFrank

I used to have ATT DSL but we recently switched to U-Verse. I have a Trendnet TEW-452BRP 54g wireless router than was handling the PPPoE function. It was set to work flawlessly with my wireless cards. No dropped connections, speed or security issues. It always connected quickly from wake up and on start up. Now we have a 2Wire i38HG wireless router/gateway and it's been difficult to properly set my network up as before.

I use the Trendnet behind the 2Wire as my wireless router. Took me a while to figure out what to do, but DHCP is disabled on Trendnet so 2Wire does what it needs to. This option works fine for me. The only problem is that at first my wireless card would not automatically connect to the network through the Trendnet when it is in range like I had it set to do previously. When I would force it to, after 3 times it would magically connect on it's own. I made some changes in the Trendnet (Mainly disabling dynamic DNS and NAT) and that seems to have made a difference. To be honest, I don't know if that is significant or not or if it actually made a longterm difference but it seems like it has.

So my problem is now that when I put my laptop to sleep and have it wake up, it does not automatically reconnect. It takes about 2 minutes then it does on its own. I read the event viewer and this is the info it gave me -

For some reason, me laptop has been (seemingly) randomly turning back on after being put into sleep mode while the lid is closed or before I even touch it. This is especially problematic because I will usually store it in my backpack to and from school because I do a lot of my homework with it, so it will consistently overheat when this happens, sometimes to the point of shutting itself down because of the overheating. I was able to find another thread on this forum:

Computer waking from sleep

so I was able to use that to that to find out what was wrong with my laptop using the event viewer. It turned out that it was caused by svchost.exe

And a quick google search told me that this is very important, so I can't just delete it. Can anyone tell me either/both why this is happening and how to fix it please?
As a side note, I also tried to set my computer to "do nothing" when the lid is closed, as the last post in the aforementioned thread suggested... it didn't work.

I've got a Media Center PC running Windows 7 Pro x64 that will not go to sleep on its own (that is, after a set time). I've Googled for an answer but can't seem to find one. I use the PC for various things, and I'm pretty certain that there are applications running that are preventing it from sleeping, as it seems to work fine when I turn them off. For example, if I type "powercfg -requests" at an elevated command prompt, I get this output:

DISPLAY:
None.

SYSTEM:
[PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Program Files (x86)\Synergy\synergyc.exe

AWAYMODE:

So obviously this is leading me to believe that synergy is preventing the computer from going to sleep on its own. Is there some way to make it so that this (these) programs do not prevent the computer from going to sleep?

For several weeks, my pc has automatically woken up from sleep mode overnight and remained woken up for the rest of the day. I'm a little unsure of what I could test to troubleshoot this issue, I only know of one possible reason for why this has started occuring.

Several weeks ago I was prompted to install Intel Smart Connect Technology which is supposed to wake up your pc at certain hours of the day to check for updates. After the initial install however, I turned off the program so that it would not wake my computer from sleep mode (was waking me up along with it during the nights). I'm planning to test whether or not uninstalling the app will fix the issue. Also I've played around with the power options to make sure that the computer goes to sleep, however this simply does not happen during nights (it does go to sleep and remain in sleep mode during the day however).

Aside from that however, would anyone know of any other place to check? I've also been wondering if it may be a USB issue or a BIOS issue possibly. Below is some basic info on my pc.

Windows 8.1
i7 3770 - Ivy Bridge
Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB
ASRock Z77 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Samsung 830 2x256GB
Razer Naga (mouse)
Microsoft Sidewinder X4 (keyboard)

For some reason one oif my W7 systems will (sometimes) not go to sleep automatically (after the set delay time). It seems if I go in and change something it will work for awhile and then stop working for no apparent reason. The main issue is using WHS 2011 which wakes all the computers on the network in the middle of the night and does it's thing and then then the computers go back to sleep after the set delay untill needed in the morning.

Every time I find this computer not sleeping I run powercfg -requests and every time there is a request - see attached screen capture. On the other hand every time is is working properly there are no open requests. I think this is the issue but I need help trying to figure out who has the request and what to do about it.

A:Windows 7 will not goto sleep automatically - sometimes!

After trying almost every solution posted on the various forums that solve the W7 no-auto sleep issue (with zero success) I finally took a closer look at the power settings in the one W7 machine that had no problems going back to sleep after the set delay period. The one thing that I noticed was the "Turn off hard disk after" was set to "Never". I changed the machine that was having all the auto sleep issues to "Never" and it now behaves like it should! Maybe this is just another solution for my particular machine and will not solve other people's auto sleep problems but it works for me! Since this thread seems to be inactive I probably won't get any feedback but I am curious to see if this works for anybody else.

Hello,
I recently did a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro x64. Before doing the clean install, all hardware being identical, my Windows 8 was ran smoothly and went to sleep fine automatically after 8 minutes, and 20 minutes later into hibernation.

Now, after the clean install, although I believe I have installed and set up everything as before, the computer does not reach standby automatically anymore. I do not seem to be able to figure out why this is, or how my configuration is different than before. I do not mean to claim that it's Win 8.1's fault (I hope it isn't, because otherwise it would mean that the solution is out of my hands), but it is much more likely that during the lengthy clean install, program installation and configuration process some things have ended up being set up differently than before.

I'd like to figure out how to approach the solution-finding process in a systematic manner as obviously there are many possible culprits that I would like to eliminate one by one. For example, you can find many single tips on the web on this subject, but we would rather need a clear to-do list of what to check. E.g., how can the event logs be used to find the error?

Therefore, I would very much appreciate your help in troubleshooting this step-by-step. I believe many users must have these problems so such a systematic procedure would be to the benefit of all.

Steve

Hi,

My computer refuses to sleep automatically. When i do it manually it goes to sleep in a second. The sleep auto timer is set to a minute and I wait for 10 minutes and still nothing. My display screen goes turns off no issues after a minute, just my desktop.

Once it sleeps manually it remains asleep also, so there are no issues with wakeup timers.

I executed the energy report and got the following:

System Availability Requests:System Required Request
The service has made a request to prevent the system from automatically entering sleep.
Requesting Service Schedule

There is nothing else in the report that mentions anything about preventing sleep other than the above.

I also tried the command powercfg -requests and i got the following:

[SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (Schedule)
Windows will execute '\Macromedia\ErrorCheck' scheduled task that requested waking the computer.

AWAYMODE:
None.

EXECUTION:
None.

PERFBOOST:
None.

ACTIVELOCKSCREEN:
None.

So what I tried to do is enter the following in an elevated command prompt window:

powercfg -requestsoverride SERVICE "\Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\svchost.exe"

Then waited for over an hour and still the computer refuses to go to sleep.

Any other suggestions?

A:Windows 10 Desktop wont sleep automatically

I just had the fan replaced, and now when I use F4 to put the laptop in sleep mode and then close the lid, it remains in sleep mode when I open the lid.  Same thing occurs when I close the lid (no F4) for sleep mode and then open the lid.  However, when I select Sleep on the Windows 7 Start Menu and close the lid, the laptop does resume when I open the lid. NOTES:- Before replacing the fan, I used F4 for sleep and resume, because when I close the lid I would sometimes find the fan running the next morning- BIOS is up-to-date- Keyboard and mouse are set to wake PC- Power Options Settings:   - Allow hybrid sleep set to OFF and Hibernate set to NEVER (As they always have been)   - USB Settings > Disabled USB selective suspend settings  (These were enabled) While this isn't a huge problem, I would like to have things working as before, preferably without having to go back to the Lenovo certified shop. Thank you in advance for your help. Jeff

Hi,
I've had this problem intermittently on my laptop for the past 2 years however it has been occuring more often recently.

Basically sometimes when I click the sleep button on Windows 7, the screen fades to black as usual. However the fan keeps running (sounds like when it's on full load) and the power button light stays on endlessly. I always have to force shut it down and restart it.

What can be the issue?
Thanks.

Hi joseph10444.

Such a situation may occur when some driver (mostly the PnP device drivers depending on the ACPI configuration) fail to response within a stipulated time period during the power state change.

Let us see some data. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Those files will give us a closer look to the issue.

Hello,I recently installed the Windows 10 Creators  Update (version 1703) on my W530. Everything seems to be  OK, except for the fact that it won't go to sleep automatically according to the settings. My settings are "Balanced" power plan, go to sleep after 15 min. when on battery, and after 30 min. when plugged in. However, these settings are simply ignored. My computer never goes to sleep. I tried to get help from Microsoft; however, they were unable to help. I also looked at Lenovo's list of systems tested with W10 Creators Update; unfortunately, W530 is not yet on the list. Anyone has an idea?Regards, bostjanv

So yesterday the lights went out while I was using my computer. When they came back on, as I turned the computer on it asked how I would like to start windows. I selected to start it normally, but as it turned on it had the appearance like I was starting at safe mode. I restarted my computer to see if anything changed, but it continued this way.

It didn't seem to be a problem as I could still use my computer normally but then when I tried to use the cmd as an admin, I was met with a message that said:

C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe

The executable program that this is configured to run in does not implement the service.

It seemed that everything that included admin permission wouldn't start, as I tried many other programs and functions.

So I tried looking online to see if there was any way that I could make the computer not start in safe mode, and I ended up trying to enter in the msconfig but I was met with the same error message.

Does someone know the solution to this problem? Sorry if it's something simple, I just never really used safe mode before so I don't really know how to work it.

Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. It goes into Sleep mode fine but anytime push a key to come back out of it.. it does nothing and has to be reset. Also it stops loading windows upon the first reset (the circles stop moving when says Loading Windows) then just stays on that screen which requires the reset button to be hit a second time.. finally moving past the loading circles to get to the desktop each time..

I downloaded the latest BIOS version which is a .cab file but trying to update it, says that the cab file cannot be read. Let me know if you need anymore information. Thanks for the help!

Computer Won't goto sleep ?
here is why and how to fix it

By default Windows 7 has media sharing turned on ( for xbox , ps3) ect

this pervents it from going into standby Mode

The Fix is Simple

Open control panel and goto

Power Options > change Plan settings > Advanced Power Settings

+Sleep
Allow hybrid Sleep > disabled
Allow wake timers > disable/enable try both settings

+USB
USB selective suspend > ENABLE

+When Shareing media [ This is the critical one ]

Set to allow the computer to sleep

hi guys,

my pc used to be fine before and could go into sleep mode (s1-s3) without any issues. Recently though I've noticed that it stays awake in Windows 8. Don't get me wrong, even now, sometimes it works fine, but on other occasions nothing happens.

I've tried a lot of stuff:-

registry hack to disable ipv6
switch off any computers that are on the network
using powercfg checked what devices were enabled and cancelled them all

What else can I do?

Hi,
My Win7 PC has recently stopped powering off in sleep mode. I ran powercfg/energy in command prompt, which gave me a report with 6 errors which state:
"USB Suspend:USB Device not Entering Suspend"
, and one which says:
"Platform Power Management Capabilities:PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) Disabled
PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known incompatibility with the hardware in this computer."

I have googled for answers as much as I can, but with my very low level IT experience, I've yet to fix the problem.

So far I've tried:
updating drivers for all USB devices in device manager (they were all apparently up to date)
checked powersave options

Can somebody suggest other things I should look into?
The main point is that to the best of my knowledge, I haven't installed anything new or changed any settings on my PC (I've been away for a month, but it was powering down fine the first few days on my return).
I'm wondering if some kind of software update could be the cause, but what I'm most worried about is if I've had some kind of a security breach during the course of trawling the internet (I'm using Bit Defender on auto pilot mode, nothing's been reported so far).

Hope someone can enlighten me. Thanks for your time.

A:Windows 7 not going to sleep mode

Additional info:
I just witnessed something else - the PC DOES power down after 30mins of idleness, but then immediately powers up again (I can hear the fan whirring even though the pc and monitor appear to be in sleep mode).

Hello there.

I upgraded from Windows 8 automatically without a fresh install. Before I upgraded, Windows 8 would go into sleep mode after 15 minutes of inactivity.

Since then, I have tried many things to get sleep mode to work.

This is my powercfg -energy report.

wreaks havoc with my Norton full system scan. It is scheduled weekly, but never does it, because my computer is on, but sleeping. How can I get the scan to not stop during sleep mode or scan if it's in sleep mode? I having to constantly unsleep my computer or change my control panel settings then change it back. I can't find where to do this...which is completely stupid that it even does this IMO.

Thanks.

Hello just installed Windows 10 a few weeks ago and coming from Windows 7 I really love it had to get a book because it's so much to learn but I'm really enjoying it. The only problem I'm really having is that after installing a few applications windows
10 is now not going into the sleep mode. I read on Cnet about this problem that it might be an application that's running that's not allowing Windows to possibly go into the sleep mode. Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction to get this resolved.
Why is there no forum for Windows !0?? Hope I'm in the right place. Thanks!

Tom j.
