Outlook Express not loading emails

Q: Outlook Express not loading emails

OE is being a pain, yet again. When I open the program, it loads fine, however the emails do not. Nothing shows up in the body of the email (but the mouse pointer has the hourglass, as if it is loading when I place the cursor over it) yet nothing ever happens. Thoughts or suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Sent Items and Inbox folders became filled with emails on Tuesday and I was unable to send or receive emails until I removed several thousand old emails from both folders (which I did, then the system was running fine again as of late Tuesday). I discovered this problem when I attempted to send 3 emails with attachments, making the emails around 5 megabytes each in size (I did not realize that the recipient's system could not handle any email more than 2 megabytes - thus, my Outlook Express kept trying to send these emails every 1 minute for 3 hours until I discovered the problem). I had to delete around 100 email notifications that the recipient could not receive emails at that size and that my email boxes were full.

I corrected these problems and relocated the emails from my Outlook Box to Drafts (until the recipient can change his settings).

All day Wednesday (yesterday) I was able to send & receive emails without a problem. This morning I was sending & recieving as well, then all of a sudden, I was unable to receive any emails. When Outlook attempts to receive, I briefly see a box with the number of emails attempting to be received, then I get an Unknown Error message. I am able to send emails without any problem and my Internet connection has been stable all day.

I've rebooted, turned on & off Outlook. I even disconnected my Internet connection, then reconnected it. I've checked my Outlook settings and they are fine. I also turned off my ... Read more

Hi rherrygers

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Have you attempted to logon to your ISP's mail server to see what messages are still on the mail server along with determining the size of the messages?
Outlook Express may be timing out trying to download a message that is larger than normal.
Did you also send yourself a copy of the message with the attachment?

Can you post the exact error message please?
If the Send/Receive window is not appearing, you can make it appear by double clicking the area marked in red here:
When the Send/Receive window appears, click the Errors tab, right click on the error message and select Copy and paste the error message here.

I use OE 6 on my desktop running XP pro, but use Outlook 2007 on my laptop running XP home. I cannot receive attachments sent from my Outlook 2007 to my OE 6 when I send it to myself. They are stripped off, not even showing an attachment. The attachment comes through to other recipients as far as I know, INCLUDING my alternate email address (through at&t). So OE 6 receives the attachment when I send it from my default email account to my at&t account, but not when I send it to from and to my default account. I have checked with my email provider, who has checked the server (IMAP) and they do not see any problem--the attachment is on the server. I have already unchecked all potential blocks under the Security Tab--image blocking and attachment blocking--and am operating in the Internet Zone. And, as far as I know, I am receiving attachments from everyone else in the world. I know there are ways to work around this problem, but it is irritating and I have concerns that my email attachments to clients may be unknowingly blocked. Also, I cannot receive those attachments on my Blackberry either.

I have a friend who just purchased a Windows 10 laptop.

It came with Office 365.

She has for many year been using Outlook Express in Windows XP.

She wants to move all of her outlook express emails (and sub folder of the Inbox) to the Outlook program on the new windows 10 computer.

Is this possible ??

I have succeed in getting her address book exported and imported but cannot find any info or instructions on how to move the emails and folders.

I do remember that some years back I did a transfer from outlook express XP email to a Windows 7 computer running outlook. But I seem to remember having to have some kind of special software to make this possible.

Can anyone tell me if I am wasting my time or is this transfer a possibility ?

She really does not want to give up all of her old emails.

I've got MS Outlook 2010 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop of the same vintage, which I upgraded to Windows 10 earlier this year. Everything was working fine until a few weeks ago when Outlook stopped loading my two Hotmail accounts.

Whenever I open the software, it comes up the error message 'Disconnected' and a warning sign in the bottom right-hand corner of the page.

I have tried the repair function in Outlook but after running a diagnostic, it tells me (rather unhelpfully) that there's a problem connecting to the server.

All suggestions welcomed!

A:how do i get emails from outlook express 6 into outlook 2007?

I don't use Outlook, but I'd think the general procedure would be to:

1: Export from Outlook Express to location X

2: Open Outlook, use the import function, and navigate to location X.

Is that what you are doing?

Can you export in more than 1 format? If so, try another format.

It's also a good idea to make manual copies of all of your Outlook Express files (dbx, etc) in case your corrupt the originals during the export/import process.

Email export and import functions haven't improved in the last 10 years, so welcome to reality. I hate changing email programs for that reason.

There are applications out there designed to convert DBX to PST, but I don't know if they are required.

I have a user who's using Outlook Express 6 to send out emails to groups. The thing is, at certain times, people who are on other groups will receive the emails not intended for them.

For example: Say we have a NJ group, a CT group and a FL group. She sends an email to the NJ group just fine. Then sends an email to the CT group, and then the FL group. Suddenly, members of the NJ group write back asking to be unsubscribed from the CT group, and the FL group... but none of the CT or FL group emails...

Here's the interesting part. I go to the email that user01 from the NJ list received of the CT group. (I know this because when he replied, it had the subject in the email...) Going into the properties, I choose to see the source for the message. Since all of these are sent out BCC, that's the only way to do it. Anyway, user01 from NJ isn't even on the list of the email he received. I wonder if this is an Outlook Express issue, or maybe something higher up? Say maybe on the server?

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I haven't had a chance to sit down with her and actually see what she's doing, but I thought that I'd ask around and see if anyone has any ideas.

TIA,
Erik

A:Outlook Express and too many emails

When you send mails using groups, its OE that interprets the groups and substitutes the e-mail addresses before it is actually sent to your servers. So this surely is an OE issue.

Your ISP may have an upper limit on the number of receipients per mail. Are you exceeding that limit and throwing your ISP servers off-balance?

Hello experts,

Please help.

This morning after receiving emails then close the outlook then open back again and all my emails of 3 years are gone totally.

I tried going to the Documents and setting to find the DBX files but they are not there anymore,so they are totally deleted from folder.

Can some experts guide me to recover back all the emails or is it gone forever.

Thank you very much.

A:Outlook Express 6 emails all gone

The OE Message Store is hidden.

Please do the following to be sure you were in the right place.

You need to have Hidden files and Folders showing.
At the top of any folder(My Documents for example) click Tools>Folder Options>View tab.
Scroll down the list and place a check next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" then click Apply and OK.

In OE
Click on Tools>Options>Maintenance tab>Store Folder.
On the Store Location box, highlight the address by pressing the Tab key on your keyboard.
Press Control+C (both at the same time) to copy the address to the clipboard.
Click Cancel on all boxes and close OE.

Click on Start>Run.
Press Control+V (both at the same time) to paste the address into the command line and click OK.
The Store Folder containing all the DBX files should open.

DO NOT TRY TO OPEN THE DBX FILES.
The data they contain is not usable outside of the OE program and they can be easily damaged.

Let us know what you find.
Also, check in your Recycle Bin for files with a BAK extension with the same name as the folders you have in OE. For example: Inbox.bak, Sent Items.bak, etc.

If this has been posted already then I spologise for my repeat query, but here it is.

My friend has a laptop running Windows 2000, with OE6 running on it. Everything was working fine until Windows downloaded a new update, at which point all of his internet explorer favorites were gone and all outlook settings were back to default. No messages, contacts, nothing.

The user profiles in Documents and Settings also differ. Before, there was one profile for his account, John. Now, there's also John.E500. I have imported the emails and contacts back from his old profile to the new one, and the internet favorites, and everything worked fine.

Now, he called me this morning and said the problem had occurred again, all emails and contacts lost. Could someone who knows about OE6 please give me some advice on how to stop this from occurring?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have an eight year old computer and am using Outlook Express for my emails. Recently I think I got a virus because several times my emails just get deleted for months at a time. Thank you. Tobi

A:Help with Outlook Express emails

Hi Tobi and welcome to TSG.

Most likely is that your Sent Items folder was over-full and the DBX file corrupted.
You'll need to go into the OE Message Store folder and generate a new Sent Items.dbx.

Follow these instructions to locate and open the Message Store.

Find the Sent Items.dbx and delete it. Note: If there were messages in it you wish to try recovering, MOVE it to the desktop instead of deleting it.
While in the Message Store, additionally delete the Outbox.dbx.

Open OE and try sending yourself a message.

Or.

Okay, this is the problem that has topped all the other problems I've had over the last few days. So there I was, checking my e-mail and it asked if I wanted to compact some emails (to make more space) so I chose yes (this may have nothing to do with the problem but I'm just saying it just in-case), I closed the program and went onto the internet and my computer randomly shuts down.. I load windows back up and then poof. all my inbox email gone when I open up Outlook Express. They're not in the deleted folder nor any other folder for that matter. I wouldn't mind but all my deleted emails are still there as I wouldn't have cared if they would have vanished but I had really important email that I needed to reply to.

So now, I've found where all my e-mails are stored but their in .dbx and .bak format. When I try to import them back into my email client, it restores all my deleted messages but not any from my inbox. This gives me the feeling that my inbox messages may be corrupt.

Is there any way I can repair these to open them back up in windows outlook express?

Any help would be really really appreciated since I need these emails back a.s.a.p.

Thanks everyone!

1/ how do u back up old emails that you have archived in outlook and/or outlook express? i'd like to move those old archived emails to a CDR but i dont know if I can do it w/o a third party program

2/ i noticed that if ms word crashes, it does a rescue document if i reopen it, but excel never rescues documents; is that normal?

A:backing up old emails in outlook express

When you archive, you are creating a separate file containing those archived messages. Backing up would just be a matter of copying or moving those files over to a CD and does not require a 3rd party program to your current CDR software.
If you need to 'un-archive', it is just a matter of putting in the CD and importing the file (pst)
===========================

I am not certain about the differences in the background of Word and Excel, but if you are concerned about crashes etc., you should have at least the AutoSave on (tools / options ... may be an add-in if not listed)
I used Help and typed in "recover" ... it says
Open a backup copy of a workbook
To recover the previous saved version of a workbook after a power failure or other problem occurs, you must have previously selected the Always create backup check box in the Save Options dialog box (File menu, Save As command, Tools menu, General Options command), and you must have saved the workbook more than once.

Click Open .
In the Files of type list, click Backup Files.
In the Look in list, locate the folder that contains the workbook.
Click the backup copy.
Click Open.

If this doesn't do it for you - I would suggest a new thread specifying just the Excel topic and perhaps Dreamboat can explain it to or guide you through

Does this help?

How do you view or choose another email address in Outlook Express. My husbands email automatically comes up when Outlook Express is launched. What do I do in order to view my emails from my email address from the program?

Thank you.

A:Multiple emails for Outlook Express???

Hi btech..

simplest way to solve the problem would be to create Identities in Outlook Express - one for yourself and one for your husband. Upon launching the program, you will be required to log onto your profile and your emails will be displayed. However, you will need to make sure the option to 'send and receive messages at start up' is selected in order for your new mail to be downloaded when you log on. To check this:

- Open Outlook Express
- Click Tools, then Options
- Under the General tab, ensure there is a tick in the box titled 'send and receive messages at start up'
- Click Apply then OK to save your settings

To create Identities in Outlook Express:

- Open OE
- Click File, then Identities then Add New Identity
- Follow the prompts till the end of the wizard

However, the extra Identity will only help if you and your husband share the same Windows XP profile, if you both have your own, there's no point in having your own OE identity....hope that makes sense :-)

About 5 days ago. I shut down my computer because I was going out of town.
At that time, I was prompted to 'compact' my email messages. I answered yes.
When I returned yesterday, I noticed that all the emails I had in my Inbox prior to
the time I left, had disappeared.

I then searched the Identity Store site and FOUND the Inbox.dbx folder. Actually, I found 2 Inbox.dbx
folders; Inbox.dbx and Inbox(1).dbx. It is the Inbox.dbx folder that was relegated to retirement.
Apparently, a new Inbox.dbx was created when the messages were compacted.

There were several other folders that suffered the same fate: Draft.dbx, Outbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx
and friends.dbx. My primary concern is with/for the Inbox.dbx.

My questioin is: how do I restore those messages to the 'working' inbox? They have not been deleted
as far as I can tell. All that I have read from the 'help' lines is for deleted messages.

I have a PC, with XP Pro OS(2), IE 6 (2), with plenty of RAM and HD space.

Thanks for your assistance.

A:Emails Disappeared In Outlook Express

Hi mbm2000,Why Does OE Insist on Compacting When I Close It?There should be a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin, copied as bak files. To restore a bak folder to the Message Store Folder, first close OE and locate the Message Store in Windows Explorer.Tools /Options /Maintenance /Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Highlight the folder location, then Copy. Close OE, then Start / Run / Paste will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.(I think you have this part figured out) In WinXP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start /Control Panel /Folder Options /View. In Windows Explorer, click on the dbx file for the missing, or empty, folder and drag it to the Desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the Message Store.Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the exact same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. (Eg: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named Saved.) Open the new folder and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue on to the next step.Open the Recycle bin and right click on the bak file for the folder in question and click Restore. Open the Message Store back up and change the file extension from .ba... Read more

A long time ago, perhaps about three years, I posted a question asking how to transfer all the saved mail from my Outlook Express program, and then transfer it to another PC. I am certain that I posted the message in the Tech Support Guy forums, but when I go to my account and check for a list of all my past posts, I cannot seem to find them. Is there a way to look back at all the posts I have made on this forum in the past, and see the responses?

Anyway, I remember that I had some answers as to how I could carry out the swap of mail from one PC to another, but I cannot remember the exact details and want to do it again.

I have looked at some of the other posts associated with this topic, but the methods being described are nothing like the way I recall being told to do it.

As I remember, I had to enable a windows file option that allowed me to view all hidden file extensions, then navigate through my C drive folders until I found the ones that store my mail. I then copied these entire folders to a CDR and transferred them to my other PC.

Can anyone tell me if I'm imagining all this, or is there a way to carry out this process similar to the description that I have just given?

A:Backing up Outlook Express Emails

You're not imagining it.

You need to have Hidden files and Folders showing.
At the top of any folder(My Documents for example) click Tools>Folder Options>View tab.
Scroll down the list and place a check next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" then click Apply and OK.

The address for the Message store is C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{random GUID number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express.

Or use one of the following methods to find it.

In OE,
Click on Tools>Options>Maintenance tab>Store Folder.

Alternate method if you only have one Identity:

Search the hard drive for *.dbx.
Be sure to search for Hidden files and Folders.
Open the folder containing the DBX files.
If there is more than one folder containing DBX files, open the one that contains the DBX files that are named the same as the folders in OE.

Make a quick copy of the DBX files.
Click Edit>Select All.
Click Edit>Copy
Go to the Desktop and right click an empty area.
Select New>Folder from the menu. Name it Mailbackup.
Open Mailbackup and click Edit>... Read more

Emails from January 22 through Feb 11 disappeared from the Inbox folder in outlook express 6.0.

They were not accidentally deleted as far as i know of, but they are not in my deleted items box or any other created folder. There was no restore of a backup done... Delete items not set to automatically delete.
I have no clue what happened to them and never seen it before and im not computer illiterate.

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated
Thank You

Below is a copy of the error message I receive, my settings have not changed at all and they are the exact same when I am at work. I can send emails from work, just not from home.
Code:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'XXXX', Server: 'smtp.XXXXXXXX.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Anyone have a similar error? I am using Comcast at home and Verizon at work.

Comcast told me each time I talked to them to use port 587 instead of 25, but when I do that, I get a different error.

A:Cannot send emails from Outlook Express

Hi,
I had the same problem around 3 years ago, I can send e-mails from work and then when i brought my laptop from work to my home i wouldn't be able to send any e-mails.
All this has to do with your outgoing mail (options). DO NOT change your incoming, and where it says outgoing type: smtp.comcast.net
also do not change the ports. So, you have to use 2 outgoings, one when you are at work (with verizon) and another one when you are at home: smtp.comcast.net.
Sorry but there is not only one outgoing, that would be perfect, but not everything is perfect.
I hope it works for you,

Sidney.

Hi all this problem is driving me crazy . I recently had to have my windows re-installed. I had been using bt as my internet provider and changed to a dongle form three. My outlook express now only receives messages but when I send I get the following message..."The connection to the server has failed. Account: \'pop.helenogrady.co.uk\', Server: \'SMTP.helenogrady.co.uk\', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E\"

I downloaded software from "Errorteck" which stated would fix the problem but unfortunately that has not helped.

Thanks in advance
Ernie

A:cant send emails fm my outlook express

Hi Ernie,

The POP and the SMTP details for this account will be relevant to your email address. For example then:

My Yahoo mail server address (for my yahoo.co.uk address) is:
* Incoming mail server (POP): pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk. Use SSL, port: 995.
* Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smpt.mail.yahoo.co.uk. Use SSL, port: 465.

My Hotmail mail server address (for my Hotmail.com address) is:
* Incoming mail server (POP): pop3.live.com. Use SPA, port: 995.
* Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smpt.live.com. Use SSL, port: 25.

So if your email account is not configured correctly for your address, you're going to find that you get all-sorts of errors.

I would imagine then, that you are trying to setup Outlook Express to capture the emails that come through from the helenogrady.co.uk/contact site?
It appears that Submarine built the site using a CMS so I am unable to get your email address from the site. Anyway, I digress. First thing to check if you cannot send emails is your SMTP. If Submarine set this up for you, I would Contact Submarine and ask them to confirm the SMTP details for your incoming emails.

We have a computer at our office that's had trouble booting Windows XP lately. It's a machine that has basically taken 18 months of solid abuse from people using it to do everything from downloading music to installing nonsense spyware-filled toolbars from every available source, with little I can do to stop it due to it's complete accessibility by everyone. The trouble is that when booting into XP, just before the Windows screen is displayed with the scrolling progress abr, the machine will just restart and enter into a loop. I have tried the recovery console on the XP disk, using the diskcheck utility with the "fix" command attached, and it reports all bad sectors repaired, but doesn't actually solve my problem. Booting in safe mode does essentially the same thing - a long list of files loaded starts scolling through the suddenly the whole lot restarts.

I have 2 partitions on this drive, C: and D:, so I installed XP to the D: drive as a secondary copy so I could at least get IN to the machine and copy all important files off before a complete format, but my only problem is I desperately need a way to copy off all the Outlook Express emails that are stored in an account of the original XP installation on the C: drive from my new one on the D: drive. Is there anywya I can access it by stating the username and password used for the account?

Thanks in advance.

A:Recovering Outlook Express Emails

Sorry I couldn't find an edit button - I forgot to mention that the file it sticks on when trying to boot to safe mode is iomdisk.sys. I've tried both replacing it and disabling my secondary master device in the Bios whilst the drive itself is unplugged from the board and the PSU, but I still have the same issue. It asks which copy of Windows to boot, I select the right one and it restarts

Hi !!
I want to open my emails in different computers using outlook express.
In other words. I want to see it in my office and then in my house. However went I do that I lost my email that I saw previously. Somebody tell me, is possible to see messages in differents computers without lost any of then. If this is true.. How do you do that???:

Thanks all....

A:How can see my emails in two different computers using Outlook Express

In the Outlook Express menu bar, go Tools>Accounts, then highlight the account you'd like to share. Click on Properties, go to the Advanced tab, then click the box next to Leave a copy of messages on server at the bottom of the window.

This will allow every email client you use pull a copy of all messages in that particular mailbox/account off the server.

I'd also recommend you click the box next to Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'. This way, when you delete junk you receive while you're at the office, you won't need to download and delete it again once you get home.

IE8 - using Outlook express for email.

I've noticed a possible pattern for years regarding spam which seems to be along the lines of things I've googled, but that's not my current concern.

Within the last week, I've received 2 bogus emails which appear to be from contacts in my address book, but the emails are not, by a long shot, anything the contacts would be likely to send.

I'm using AVG free. Also use Spybot.
Is there any particular scan software I should run, and has anyone else noticed anything similar as of late?

Thanks.

Have lost about 4 months of emails from my Inbox. Searched *.dbx files and all that comes up is the current inbox folder. My computer is scheduled and does a weekly systems backup and a my documents backup, could my missing emails be buried in there? What can I do to recover/restore these important emails?
Thanks in advance for your input and help!

A:Need Outlook Express 6 help - lost emails

Hi janmomx3

Have you tried a System Restore and then searched for .dbx files?
Where does the System Backup place your files? Have you searched in that location?

When doing a System Restore, you can undo the System Restore and revert back to the current status.
If the System Restore brings back the Inbox, you can copy the Inbox.dbx file to a flash drive then undo the System Restore and return to your current status.

Does anyone here know anything about Outlook Express? When I send emails out, recipients receive the same message over and over, sometimes throughout the day as if the system were programmed to send the message out on the hour. Can anyone help me?

Hi- My computer was really slow and then froze on me, so I rebooted it. When I reopened Outlook Express 6, many emails were missing, but not all. I've been able to receive new emails since then. Also, the only emails were missing from my Inbox, but not from other folders in my Outlook Express.

I've researched on the internet, and it appears that my emails may have been corrupted (possibly due to McAfee). I cannot figure out how to fix the problem. Many of the resources are older and refer to a free dbx repair tool by Macallan, but the link provided no long works.

Any suggestions? I checked the recycle bin, and the bak files were dated in July 2009 (too early). I did a search for dbx files on my c drive, but I only see one inbox.dbx (some of the websites mentioned that there might be another inbox created).

Thanks in advance.

I have always used Hotmail with Outlook Express - I can send and receive Hotmail emails from my PC. But now that Microsoft have threatened to withdraw free POP access, I have decided to try GMail.
I have got my GMail working with Outlook Express. I can download all my received emails into a folder on my PC, but I do not appear to be able to download my sent emails.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks in advance for any information you can give.

A:Can I Get My Sent GMail Emails into Outlook Express?

Just a thought, send from Outlook Express, just have you Gmail account in the header.

I use Gmail for everything, but no longer have to log into their site - everything comes and goes from the Gmail account.
