Install Desktop application on micro sdxc card

Q: Install Desktop application on micro sdxc card

Hello. I have recently got a Linx 10 windows tablet (Intel atom based), but it only has 32gb of storage of which 24gb is available. I recently purchased a Micro sdxc class 10 card (benchmarked at 25mb/s read/write on the Linx10 with crystaldisk), i was hoping to install applications on it where storage speed would be less critical. When i try to install programs on it such as visual studio it states that i cannot install it on removable media and steam does not list it as a drive. Is there anyway to make the tablet treat the micro sdxc as if it is an internal storage device so that i can use it like a hard drive? Or are there any other ways to make applications install onto it?

Thanks for any help,
Aljowen

Preferred Solution: Install Desktop application on micro sdxc card

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

you would use your SD card for the systems storage - ie picture, video, doc's etc

OKAY. I have a Surface Pro with 128 GB storage so I want to conserve space by using my 64 GB micro SDXC card which is seen as a removeable drive. It is so small and sticks into the pro to where you can't see it. It does not stick out so I just leave it in there all the time. How would I get Media Center to see that as part of my Media Library?

You can add Video folders on the micro SDXC to your Video's Library in Windows 8.

Then when you set up Media Center browse to the Library where the video files reside and you will then be able to play all of the video files which reside in your Video's Library from Media Center.

Shawn's tutorial on adding folders or drives to the Library's should be helpful.

Hi
I got a bigger m.2 ssd for my 3050 pc and instead of duplicating old ssd into new one I decided to reinstall windows from downloaded recovery iso image. No matter what I do I couldn't get pc to boot up. It would go through the process, but eventually wouldn't boot up. Tried it in legacy and UEFI mode. Original ssd size is 32gb with about 12gb free with windows installed. SO I assume the windows 10 from Dell is shrunken somehow.
I was finally able to install it from downloaded full version of windows 10 iso from microsoft by changing bios to ATA and legacy setting. Then after 1st boot change the registry entry to achi, boot into safe mode to reinstall achi driver. At least now I have it in achi mode.
Q1. What is the ROW mean in W10x64ROW_core_compact.iso recovery file that I can download from Dell?
Q2. What would be missing in compact version from Dell in comparison to MS downloaded iso file?
Q3. What am I doing wrong?
I would prefer to install dell original recovery image so I would have it in GPT UEFI. Just FYI ssd capacity is different.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi, i have just bought a sandisk 64gb extreme pro sdxc memory card for my camera, it works fine in the camera and saves pics to it, but every time i open it in windows it tells me i have to format the card, when i do format it, it goes through the whole process and then tells me the operation cannot complete.

I know the card is formatted as exfat, does windows 7 not support this?

my laptop uses windows 7 64bit.

Can anyone please advise as i am not sure how i am going to get any pictures in the future onto my laptop.

I have a HP Stream 10" laptop with the standard Windows 10 Home image on the built-in eMMC. There is very little scope to shrink the windows partition enough to install linux along side on the same eMMc.  I have therefore purchased a 64GB micro SDXC card, inserted same into the micro SD slot and attempted to install Linux as follows: Distributions were Mageia 5 Live on USB and OpenSuse Tumbleweed on USB CD, using essentially the same approach. The existing UEFI partition was mounted as /boot/efi  in the partitioning setup in each case and nominated as the boot partition. Linux root, swap and home partitions were defined and formatted to ext4 with appropriate mount points on the second SD card. In each case, the relevant installer completed without errors.  However, on reboot, both cases immediately went into 'grub rescue' mode, listing a uuid that could not be found during the boot process. After issuing 'set' then following with ls on every item shown came up with 'Filesystem unknown'. Using the other approach, of booting a Linux live system, mounting installed directories, chroot and attempting to run grub-install ended up with an error message saying something to the effect of  'no corresponding BIOS disk for this device'. So, my first question is whether what I am attempting here can work at all. I know most UEFIs don't support booting from SD cards.  Here, I am attempting to use the relev... Read more

Hey Guys!

TL : DR: All files accessable but contain binary-gibberish

So I was at a friends place yesterday and he told me that his phone (sony xperia z5) crashed and woudn't restart until he removed the SDXC card (exFAT formated, 64GB). He tried to access his data from his PC (Windows 10) and wasn't able to do so.

So when I inserted his sd card in his PC It got recognized as an exFAT volume of correct size and showed all (as far as I can tell) data in a resonable size (nothing like, all mp3's are 4kb or so), but as soon as I opend a file (like photos or music) it said that it isn't a supported format. even file that should contain plaintext had not a single word in it and looked more like a binary opend in notepad. I opened one in mp3Diags and couldn't find a proper header or any mpeg stream. The filesystem seemed fine and I checked it with chkdsk. Even writing a new file to it works and is perfectly readable.

Does anyone knows what causes this and/or how to get on the data?

A:SDXC exFAT card files readable but corrupted

Sounds like the data was corrupted in some way, possibly malware or virus. But could just be a hardware glitch with the phone. Is a different card working in the phone?

A:What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Hi ITWorxLA,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per system overview :
IO port: Memory card slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC)

Platform specification:
One microSD Card slot, supports up to 2TB

Usually there would be stickers on the box or laptop to indicate the format it also supports.
You can try to find/borrow  a spare 32GB SDXC to test first before purchase.

Hope this helps answer your query.

If you're reading this then you might be able to help me.
I need to develop an application to serve a client. The client being an M16C microcontroller which is interfaced to the ethernet via a Cs8900a module.
All I need the M16C to do is to set a selected range of pins high or low remotely from a web browser to be used by any user over the internet. This will be in the form of arguments to a function presumably (as I haven't finalised the workings yet).
I don't know much about this sort of stuff, but I know how Ethernet works and a little about various protocols etc and programming in C.
Can anyone suggest a suitable solution? I want to know what I should write the server in and any tips for doing it. Cheers in advance if you can help. I should also add that I am programming the workings of the micro in C.
I just want the application to be a no-frills deal but still look nice on a browser (all it has to do is to accept users directions to switch pins/ports and accept incoming info)

I have a dc5750 Microtower that came with Windows 7 and upgraded a driver from the HP site. After that I kept getting a message that popped up on start-up that said, "Could not load file or assembly 'MOMImplementation' or one of its dependencies." I click "OK" every time I started or restarted the computer and everything seemed to be OK.A few weeks later my video was acting up so put in a stand alone video card (GEFORCE GT 610 with 2 GB DDR3 Memory). It worked great, but my audio stopped working and I spent many hours trying to get audio back working. I took the video card out and have gone back to the video on the mother board and the audio (and video) are now working but that message still comes up on start-up.  I should be able to put in that video card without it causing my audio to disappear.

A:dc5750 desktop has no sound when I install a video card

Hi: On those old machines when you install a video card with a HDMI port, the onboard audio is automatically disabled. That is because the PC thinks that not only did you install a video card, it thinks you installed an audio card because of the HDMI audio chip on the video card, so it disables both the onboard video, and onboard audio. You should be able to easily fix the problem by installing the video card. Then restart the PC, go into the BIOS find the onboard audio setting. That setting should be in the Advanced menu > Device Options section. You will now see the onboard audio is disabled. Change the setting to enabled.  Save it there and again when you exit the BIOS. Upon restart and into Windows, the onboard sound should be back.

Hi,
I have just bought a Nokia E71 which really needs a Micro SD card to expand it. The original spec sheet says that it supports 8gb cards but would a 16gb one work? Also, being a newcomer to SD cards, are they all the same or are some types better/faster?

Thanks,
George

A:Micro SD card for E71

I found these links about 16GB cards on Nokia E71:

http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=communicators&message.id=30058 - Nokia E71 and 16GB microSDHC (slow!)

http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=communicators&thread.id=36865 - E71 has problems using 16 Gb memory card

And take a look here, it says that it may be compatible with 16gb.

About SD cards and speed, read this article about Secure Digital Cards.

As far as I can see you should be able to use 16gb card, but there is a small risk of unforeseen behavior.

Since I upgraded to Windows 8, I am no longer able to save individual Remote Desktop Connection files as .rdp files. I am talking about the traditional Remote Desktop Connection application on the Desktop that was in previous Windows versions, not the
Remote Desktop App from the Windows 8 store.
When I try to click on the Save button I get "An error occurred while saving to file"
When I try to click on the Save As button I get "Unable to open connection file" with the file address being where I tried to save it with the file name at the end.
Also when I upgraded to Windows 8, my .rdp files disappeared from my Documents folder.
I need to create different .rdp files for different programs that my employees get into on my server. Now I have to hand type all the info each time into the Programs tap on the Remote Desktop Connection window, because I can't save to an
.rdp file.
I like the Remote Desktop App from the Windows store but it won't let me designate specific programs to use using standard dos notation (ie c:\program files\ etc..). It just goes to my server desktop.
I want to promote Windows 8 to my employees but I need either .rdp files for the traditional Remote Desktop Connection or the ability to open specific programs using dos notation in the Windows Store Remote Desktop App.

I have a 8gb micro sd card that was in my Samsung G3. It all of a sudden didnt find the card. I took it out, put it back in, restarted the phone with it out then put it in, took battery out ,, all the fun stuff..to no avail.. it simpy does not find the card. I have a micro sd card adapter ( not the usb type just the one where u put the micro card into the bigger card then insert into ur computer ) It doesnt even read that. The card adapter is working because if I put another micro card in it finds it right away.
My question is this.. if my card is completly unreadable or unmountable is there anyway I can get my pictures off the card?

I am not able to format the card as nothing will find it?

You are probably out of luck.

A couple of things to try, a different computer and a different adapter. You can also try Zero Access Recovery, it is free for memory cards. The final alternative is to pay (very expensive) one of the professional data recovery services to get them back for you.

I purchased a new 32gb micro sd (Kingston) and inserted it into my phone. I connected the phone into usb and it found it immediately. I then proceeded to load music on the card while plugged into the computer. My daughter went off to college and used it for a few days. She relized there were some album covers missing and called me for instructions on how to connect. All went well. A few days latter her music wasn't working. she plugged it into her computer again. This time the computer only showed the internal sdcard and not he micro sd. I had her take the card out of the phone and plug it directly into the computer. A few things were wrong right away. 10 it showed up as a 8gb memory card. 2) it was now FAT (the phone originally saw it as a 30gb FAT32). The computer won't let her format the card nor will it read it. The computer also says it needs to be formatted to read.

Help?

Don't think it matters but the phone is a AT&T Samsung Captivate. At a forum called XDA they can't help me.

Thank you, Tom

A:Issues w/ a micro sd card

Sounds like the card has gone bad. But check to be sure that the lock switch has not been moved on the side. Try it in one or more other readers in case a contact point is not working as it should.

If formatted, the current files will be lost. But it may be unusable without formatting, though I suspect that at this point, a format would fail, anyway.

PhotoRec is the best tool for recovering files from flash memory if you have some to attempt to retrieve.

These devices don't last long usually if used a lot, and the larger the capacity, the shorter their lives seem to be.

Attempting a partition recovery might help, but may take more time than it's worth.

I have recently purchased a new Nokia 6300 which came with a free 128MB memory card. I also bought a 1GB card as 128MB is too small. When trying to copy all the data to the new card (including the pre-installed apps and games) it stops saying that some items are stored under the secure section of the card.

I read on the web that the Nokia backup software can be used to circumvent this, however when I tried it also refused to copy the secure data.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

From How to Copy Contents of Memory Card

I found out that using the ?Mass Storage? mode (also called ?Data transfer?, depending on the phone), it is possible to copy the whole content of the memory card keeping it in the phone. My error was to use the ?File Manager? from the PC Suite, which doesn?t show hidden folders.Click to expand...

Hello,

Today I put my micro sd card inside a USB adapter, and plugged it to one of the USB ports.
Then I transferred some files into it, and I accidentally moved it in the middle of the work, so that it disconnected.

Now when I insert the micro SD card (inside the adapter) it tells me that I must format the drive because it has file system that's not recognized.

Is there anything I can do to fix it rather than formatting it?

Thanks

Hi there, hoping you can help. I'm having problems with the SD drive on my laptop HP Pavillion x 360, Product number L5P21AAR. Currently using Win 10 but problem existed with Win 8.1 The symptoms are data loss & unable to open JPEGS & PDF's all at a latter date & all unique to SD drive. Have tried 2 x SD card both the same symptoms, currently using a 'SanDisk 64GB Ultra Micro SD SDXC 48MB/s Class 10 UHS via adaptor. Have formated the card & the laptop does not detect any card errors. So is this a compatability issue or driver issue, frustrating ! Cheers Johno

I got a Micro Sd HC 4 GB card to use for my phone and it is not being recognized by my computer, which is running Windows XP.I have tried this:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923293but it did not work.Does anyone have any help on this?

A:Micro Sd HC 4 GB card not recognized

I had the very same problem running XP home trying to read a micro SanDisk 4Gb SD HC. My fix I do not actually understand but what worked was buying a USB micro SD reader that stated specifically that it supported the SD HD (high density) cards. The one I bought was a SanDisk brand. I would have expected all readers to be pinned out identically but there must be a difference somewhere. I did not need to load any software specifically for the SD HD reader.

A:HELP with micro sd memory card

The microSD card happens to be 4 GB or more in capacity? Your old phone and your computer's memory card reader just happen to only support the old regular SD cards, not 4+GB SDHC cards. Get a new card reader if you want to retvieve the data. Go to newegg, read reviews, and.. Err. Just forget it, I remember there being a good reader with reviews saying it supported HC and it was cheap, wait a sec...

A friend of mine gave me a 4GB flash drive that he found on the street last week and as I like taking things apart I erm... did.

Anyway instead of seeing a regular memory chip on the logic board it had an (see pics) 8GB Sandisk micro SD HC soldered to another board which was in turn mounted onto the main board with the connector for plugging into the USB on your computer. As I didn't pay for it and mainly because the system (and sticker) said the drive was only 4GB and inside on the actual card it said it was an 8GB I pried it off the board.

What I wasn't expecting to see was that there were a number of contacts in the middle of the chip that were soldered to its board. I scraped and sanded the solder down to allow for using an adapter on the 3 legs and removed the last bit of biscuit board from the dot contacts. at one point (something was still bridging one or more dots) I got my adapter to register the card but it said that it was 2048.0GB or something so I sanded and scraped it down so that all of the dots were definitely separated but that made the card not register as being connected to the system. \

Erm... Sorry for the shoddy picture I couldn't find my magnifying glass to put in front of the webcam which would have made the quality way better even with a low res camera it makes the image quality 3 times as good as it is without it on. Moving on I know the pic doesn't give much detail it is mainly for the orientation and better explains what I ... Read more

I was just wondering how to format a micro sd card, to a Kodak easyshare camera. When I tried to do it, it was just stuck replaying the same message over and over again. Thanks!

A:Micro sd card formatting

if you have a memory card reader or an sd adapter to stick into your pc, then just stick it in there and go to My Computer

right click the sd card and click Format...

Before formatting make sure you check what format your kodak camera is so it will match, but since you can try, you can try out different formats and stuff.

Format of a 4GB sd card fully loaded takes about 30mins so in less then 1 hr you should get it to work 100%

Hope this post helped enough
