program for recording computer's audio output

Q: program for recording computer's audio output

I'm looking for software that lets me record my computer's audio output, like for example if i'm playing music or a computer game, whatever audio is normally outputted to the speakers would also be recorded to whatever file

Preferred Solution: program for recording computer's audio output

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

you can play the music thru the speakers and record it with a microphone thru sound recorder saves it as a wave file however.

Hey everyone,
I'm currently on a computer which has a Realtek audio sound device, it's integrated into the motherboard. I currently cannot find an option to change the Mic/Line In input to a Wave input, so I can record that.

Is there any software available, or something else, that will make my computer record the actual sound that the sound card is producing?

I am running a system with two soundcards. (integrated and PCI) where I use the integrated sound for 5.1 computer speakers for gaming and windows sounds, and the PCI soundcard connected to my HI-FI system for music and movies. My problem is that not all my players allow me to select which output device i wish to use. Winamp and VLC are fine, but i also use Spotify and iTunes. But there are no menu option to select an optional audio output device in either program. So can i use som external application to achieve this? i'm growing tired of having to change the standard device all the time. It is really counter-productive. I am also using both Windows Vista and XP, so a solution that can run on both systems would be preferred.

Thanks in advance.

Ok,this one is wierd. I just installed winXP Home on a new hard drive, and downloaded this program:

When I open the program I get this Error

This program worked on my computer fine with my old hard drive and it still works fine on my buddy's laptop. Not sure where to go from here...

Have you installed Windows Media Player yet? This should fix the codec problem. If that doesn't work, try installing the Windows Media Audio 10 Pro (Windows XP) codecs, then reboot.

I have my Pc connected to two monitors and a Samsung Tv.

The hardware of relevance is this:
An Nvidia GPU (560 TI) connected to two 24 inch monitors. HDMI sound disabled.
An integrated Intel GPU that is connected the Samsung TV via HDMI (Meaning audio can be sent to the TV together with the Video stream).
A DAW soundcard, ESI [email protected] that I use for making music or anything else audio related that isn't film or TV watching on the PC. Sound comes out from a different source than what is connected to the TV (goes through a pre-amp and then some near field monitor speakers).
This is set as the default sound card (output).

When I watch videos on the TV I have to manually switch to the hdmi-audio output (Which goes through the GPU that is connected via HDMI to the TV), otherwize the sound of course comes out of the receiver connected to the PC.

So, is there a way to make Windows autoswitch the audio ouput depending on which monitor the sound is played through?
I mean as soon as something is output through the (integrated) GPU to the TV I want Windows itself to "feel" that this is happening. Think I have seen it in action with some Windows 8 PC;s connected in a similar way.

Or is there a way to make a specific program, like Google Chrome (where a lot of TV streams and videos are watched) to trigger that audio should be switched to the HDMI output automatically?

As it is now I use "Audioswitch" (https://code.google.com/p/audioswitch/) which is working ok, b... Read more

A:Possible to switch audio device output depending on screen/program?

Nothing I know of to do what you want. If the audioswitch works for you, that is what to use.

Basic Windows is not set up to do what you want. Its setup to have one default playback device and if HDMI is connected (and HDMI is enabled) then it automatically sets that as the default audio playback device. Manual intervention (or a 3rd party application) is needed to change to a different playback device.

Hello,My problem is this: I have an old  set of speakers such that the left speaker eventually stopped working.
Upon taking it apart, turns out the wire was just pulled away from the solder to the pins.I replaced the wire and it was good as new.
After a few months of use, (once in a while use) the left speaker "stopped" workingI later discovered that it still works, but is very very quiet.Such that, I have to set the right speaker balance to 9% and left to 100% to get the same volume from both speakers.I took it apart today, re-glued the wires back to the pins, no difference.
So I am wondering, with Dell Audio client, and my Dell xps 8700, which has a front and back 3.5mm audio jacks, can I set the balance to the front port to be my 100/9 for the speakers, and 100/100 for the back which connects to my headphones?
I took a look in the audio client, but it looks like no such option exists.Do I go looking for a new set of speakers or is there an easy option here?

A:Can you change the balance output on a specific audio jack output with Dell Audio?

I believe both jacks are controlled and connected to the same ports and software so directing one to do one thing and another to do something different isn't possible as far as I know.  Maybe someone will have a different answer, but I don't think Dell's software is advanced enough.

Hi, my brother's pc (which I'm using right now) does not output sound, and says that there is "no audio output device installed", even though I've checked on device manager and the realtek HD audio driver is installed, running, and as far as windows knows, it is updated. I've tried rebooting the driver and service and still nothing. I've ran AVG a couple of times and the outcome is always the same: No viruses and Malwarebytes Antu Malware says the same.
When I log on, Dolby Theatre says that it doesn't have a driver installed and can't run, that may be the source of the problem but I can't find the driver for this* pc!

I'm guessing this is the result of careless web browsing by my brother, since it is not the first time he has had problems with his computer, but this time the situation is more serious than the usual "my pc is slow/I tried changing my facebook appearance and now my internet doesn't work"

Also: Even though this computer is connected to a wi-fi network, the taskbar icon says that it is not connected and that there are wi-fi networks available. But this is a minor problem, since I'm able to access the internet without any problems whatsoever.

System Restore

If not, or no help, try running the troubleshooter

Do you have a red X over the speaker icon in the system tray? What happens if you right click the speaker and choose Open volume mixer? Are the sliders up, or are the devices perhaps muted? Right click the speaker and choose Playback devices. Do the speakers have the green check mark? Click to highlight speakers and click on configure. Click on a speaker to test it. Do you get the test tones? Do you see the animation that indicates it should be working?

I tried changing the default settings and troubleshooting it and that doesn?t work either. Also my microphone that?s plugged into my computer picks up my voice just fine.

Greetings all, it has been awhile since I last posted, aside from my computers of which I have 4, I am also a long time audiophile, and have quite the collection of high end vintage stereo equipment. I have a friend who is more hard core about his sounds than I am.
I am fishing for opinions, I have bought a new ASUS lap top that I have a really good sound card and Graphics HDMI card installed. I also am an avid user of ITunes, and have found that their Lossless recordings are better than most of my CDs. I am also rather tired of playing one CD after another, so I recorded all my music, a little over 100gigs on 3 of my computers one being my new lap top. I also use ITunes Icloud service for storing my entire library including all my settings, and have used it to load up my laptop with all their lossless versions of all my music including what I bought from them.
I find the quality to be better than CDs, and better than what I hear on my tube CD player, while playing it from my computer files. My friend says that recorded music on a computer will degrade over time, and that a hard drive will not keep all files in one place, therefore the degrading of the information. He says that the new streaming services along with the new streaming players are far better. Herein lies the information I seek; Which is better, what are the opinions that the rest of you have, is computer recorded music better, or is streaming music on these new (very expensive) players better..., or is ther... A:Computer Harddrive recording or Streaming lossless audio, which is best?

Which is better depends on the source and the quality settings of the capture. A lossless copy of a CD and the actual CD should sound the SAME. If they do not, you have a player, configuration, or hardware issue. It doesn't matter if you are comparing CD's, ripped files from a CD, or streaming files (assuming all files are from the same source CD version).

Files stored on a computer do not "degrade over time". They will never change unless of course the HDD fails. So you either misunderstood what you friend was telling you, or he doesn't understand computers.

Hello, I'm new to this forum, and as such I have no clue where to post this, so, as I'm using vista, I figured I might as well post it here. Mods, please move this to the appropriate forum.

So, I'm using audacity, and recording the audio playing through my computer. Essentially, I'm recording what's coming through my speakers. The sound itself is crisp and clear. Upon playback of the recording, the dialogue is very hollow, and if there's music, the notes have a lot of static with them.
I have tested several things, including changing my Sterio Mix volume and quality. It's currently set at 16 bit 44100Hz. I have tried increasing the Hz, but that actually reduced the quality.

To sum it up, the original output is excellent, but the recording is low quality. Could anyone help with this? Thanks.

I've been searching for the answer to this problem almost all day today, and have still to find out exactly how its done. I've been researching 'attenuate line level to mic level' due to that being my only clue, but I'm new to this audio thing. I know that the audio output is different from the input required, or something of the sort. Is there something I can buy that would adjust the sound somehow to allow clear audio through the controller?
Here's what I've been trying, just to get bad feedback, and crappy sound when i play an audio clip.
This is a male-male extension connected to a headphone jack on one side, and then connected to a 1/8" to 3/32" Adapter.

My CPU is spiking really high, say looking through this forum and just scrolling down while nothing else is open, is causing 100% CPU usage.  Scrolling down the page causes more static and ticking like noises to come through the audio output.  The more I do, the more noise is made and it will just peg at 100%, videos don't work, doing anything else like downloading in the background, causes almost the whole computer to freeze.  This computer should be faster than this.  It's a dell dimension 8100, 2006.

I hard a hard time deciding where to put this thread, none the less here it goes:

I used to have a very advanced audigy system that had front ports for pro mics and stuff. when plugged in it turned my speakers into a PA system basically with studio quality. I was then able to play tracks of recorded songs by my band and add vocals to them with almost no software at all and it sounded brilliant.

That PC cost me 4,000 to build and I by no means can replicate that. I now have a spdif plug mic with a nice hd sound card, adobe audition 3, and the hope I may be able to make this work. Can anyone offer me any solutions whether they be 3rd party of plugins to my current software?

Much appreciation!

My microphone has been working perfectly fine up until today, when I noticed the only thing that would come through it on Skype, Ventrilo, basically any voice over programs is what's going on in my output. It's as if the microphone is only picking up my output and not my input, but everything seems to be set fine as far as I'm aware. Any help with this?

I'm having a strange and frustrating issue with my Creative Labs Fatal1ty Gaming Headset; it has recently begun recording the sound my desktop makes (output) instead of my voice (input).

I've tried everything to get this to work, but nothing seems to be going correctly.

My jacks are plugged in correctly.

Also, I recently updated my Realtek drivers (in an attempt to fix this issue), but now it doesn't show up properly on my computer. (Edit: The Realtek issue has been fixed, but my microphone is still only recording desktop noise instead of my voice.)

A:Issue: Microphone recording output, not input..

I'm going to try and reorganize this for people looking. My original post is lacking in details.

My microphone is not recording input at all. In fact, the only thing it IS recording is my stereo input (aka, what I hear from my earphones).

A day ago it was working properly, and then I attempted to stream my gameplay using Livestream.com's Procaster program. I THINK this is when things messed up, as afterwards when I attempt to speak to someone through voice chat I am instead just telling them whatever I'm hearing at the moment.

I've thoroughly inspected my Control Panel settings and checked what's up with the microphone - I have four items there under the recording tab when managing my audio devices: "Internal AUX Jack", "Mic in the rear panel (Pink)", "Microphone (my laptop's internal microphone)", and "Stereo Mix". The odd thing I've noticed is that the volume bar for "Mic in the rear panel" goes up and down in tune with what I'm hearing. So far, fiddling with the options here does nothing.

I use Realtek HD Audio Manager and have updated it to the highest driver versions. I've checked the settings for this and am unable to find anything that can help me.

So in the sound manager I changed the output to the "Speakers", and in fact the Realtek sound manager detects that a cable is plugged into that output and shows me the dialog where it's selected. Problem is, nothing comes out.

I know it's not the 3.5mm to RCA cable because I plugged in my phone, played some music and I can hear it just fine. But the rear speaker (green) output puts out no sound at all, as I also tested it plugging headphones. On the Sound Windows panel where you can select the playback device I can see the volume level move up and down when I'm playing any media file, as well as in the Volume Mixer. If I switch back to the S/PDIF output and change the input in my receiver, audio is coming just fine.

I haven't tried the front outputs because they are not connected. The motherboard has HD Audio but the case has AC97 connectors, so I never cared to connect them because I don't use them. I know the rear green output worked at some point because I remember having a pair of computer speakers connected to it a few years ago.

A:Realtek ALC889 audio, audio fine on S/PDIF, nothing from rear output

I found out after a while. In the popup dialog when a cable is plugged in, I had selected "Rear speaker out" mistakenly thinking it was talking about the rear output, not the rear speakers in a 5.1 speaker setting. Changing to "Front speaker out" solved the problem.

Cpu: Pentium Dual Core T4400-2.20 GHz

Ram: 3 GB DDR2

Graphics: Intel 4 series express chipset- Integrated

Microphones do not work. Any microphones.

Occasionally, after a restart, if I open dell webcam central it will make my built in microphone work for a little while but, it then later, randomly seeming, stops working.

I've tested several external microphones and they do not work either. Before you ask, yes I did make sure they were enabled and un-muted, I have also updated the drivers on my sound card. I ran a windows diagnostic test and it said there was nothing wrong with my mic. I have absolutely no idea what the hell is happening.

No sound.
Little speaker with the red 'x' appeared yesterday
I have gone through the whole update drivers circus to no avail, my laptop can't detect that it has speakers built in so it doesn't bother finding a driver for them.

This is where I am at:
- Intel Display Audio is the only driver installed for sound
- This means that sound works when the laptop is plugged into an HDMI
- When HDMI is not plugged in, the computer cannot find the built in speakers.
- I have Linux on this system and audio does not work there as well

I would call this a broken chipset, but the fact that the computer still processes audio with the HDMI cable attached is confusing me. Also, the 'audio board' for this laptop has 2 usb ports attached to it, and those both work fine.

Any help would be appreciated

I have no audio at all since the last update from windows 10 in early April.  I am showing a No audio output device installed on the audio icon on my computer.  When I go to device manager it shows that I have no sound components and an error code 39.  This is starting to really frustrate me.  I have tried everything and nothing works.  Be it said I am not an IT person and am limited in my knowledge of computers, but still I am pretty sure it can be a simple fix.

Im having the dreadful "No Audio Output Device is Installed" problem on my realtek audio.

It worked some months ago, but im in no position to do a roll back. Im sure the hardware is just fine, it works with Ubuntu.

The computer is a Dell Vostro 430.
My OS is win7 64bit.

I tried the newest Realtek driver suite, the recommended dell-drivers and some basic windows-drivers. Nothing makes the "No Audio Output Device is Installed" go away.

Any help is welcome.
Ive attached my sound-related reg. I believe my realtek device is 0001.

A:Realtek Audio: No Audio Output Device is Installed

The Dell driver is required, non Dell drivers will either not work or not work correctly.

First thing, is the Integrated Audio enabled in the BIOS? (F2 at boot up to enter Setup).

Second, on Dell's (and many others) if the motherboard chipset drivers were not installed, the sound device will not work. In this model there are Intel motherboard chipset drivers. Try installing them and then the Dell sound driver. Dell Drivers

hello everyone:

i looked in on seven forums trying to find a fix for my driver problem, a lot of friends here were helpfull, i like to give back a little even if my pc is working fine now.

my pc is a desktop running windows 7 pro, motherboard esc a780gm-a, i had a problem with my hd audio driver, under my control panel audio device i only could see "no audio device installed" even when i installed it 10 times, i also saw on my right conner "no audio output installed"

i had a logitech camera installed.

the fix:
i found that my logitech camera was somehow in conflict with my audio device, it kep telling me "communication mic ???" something like that, well after uninstall the logitech camera software my audio came back and its now working perfect.

i hope this helps.

check if you have a camera with a built in mic, this might be your problem.
thank you all.

Hi guys,
I'm having a little problem with my onboard audio, having just installed Windows 8.1 (clean install). I have an Asus P8Z77-V LE PLUS motherboard, which includes a "Realtek? ALC889 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC" onboard.
I have installed the latest realtek drivers; R2.73 from the official website.
Now, here's my problem: when I was using Windows 7 on this same machine, I could plug headphones in the front panel connector, as well as speakers in the green back panel connector. This would give me two audio outputs in the device manager/sound list, which was pretty practical and enabled me to output different applications through the speakers or the headphones.
Now, however, there's only one output, irrelevant of whether or not I have two outputs plugged in at the same time. They appear in the device manager as a single device called "speakers" (see picture). Instead of both having separate outputs, they both output exactly the same audio.

Any solution to this?

A:Realtek HD Audio only shows one audio output at a time

Hello audiobreak,

Try going into the Realtek HD Audio Manager (Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Realtek HD Audio Manager), then look for a setting called 'Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously'. I cannot remember where this is located (The Realtek HD Audio Manager has different skins depending on the motherboard vendor), but for an ASUS Motherboard, I believe you click the Cog Icon in the top left and the option should be in there. I don't know if this will create a separate Playback Device for the Front Panel in Window's Playback Devices, but it will at least allow you to hear audio from both your speakers and headphones at the same time.

Hope this helps.

About 6 month's ago I reinstalled my OS and all my software, shortly thereafter I noticed I had an issue where any sound that was coming through my headphones was being retransmitted through the mic, with further testing I found that this was not actually the case but rather any sound that would be output is being retransmitted as audio in, even if I had no speakers, headphones or mics connected. I have looked at and experimented with everything I could in every sound settings I could find, but nothing has fixed the issue.

Before anyone asks, I have tried updated drivers, the only way for me to stop the issue from occurring is to mute the mic in the recording control, but that stops me from using the mic altogether.

Please Help I need to be able to use my mic without recording anything that I am hearing as well...
