Format of cookie files changed

Q: Format of cookie files changed

I am sure I am behind the times here but I have noticed that my .../roaming/microsoft/windows/cookies directory is displaying cookies in a random number/letter sequence.txt (3MZCTCB4.txt) file rather than the usual [email protected] format.

SuperAntispyware reads them like this to. I checked it on another PC and the same thing. Is this a result of a microsoft update or something, was curious thats all.

As a curious side note, I noticed that browsing exactly the same sites in Windows 7 and Vista produced more tracking cookie positives (superantispyware), on Windows 7 than Vista.

Preferred Solution: Format of cookie files changed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone,

I recently accidentally formatted a hard drive. So, I quickly install a file recovery software (EaseUS Data Recovery). Then the result shows that most of SWF files are big in size. I think that lots of my files have been converted or combine with other files. So, how do I recover my files?

A:File format changed into other format after format a hard drive

This may not be the best answer, but I would recover the files first. That is you biggest concern right now. Then try to see what you need to do to fix them.

i plugged my usb into another pc it has now changed to a macintosh format and i cannot open it. it keeps asking me to format the drive, have i lost all my files? can i change it back for a pc without losing files

A:usb changed format to mac help

<i>strange</i>. Can you still access the files on the other PC?
If so, you could transfer to the HD of the other PC, format the USB (flash drive/memory stick/pen drive, whatever? USB means Universal Serial Bus), then copy them back onto the USB OR burn them to a CD OR mail them to yourself ( http://www.yousendit.com/ - mails a link to download the files).

If you format the usb, you will lose the files.

Flex 2-14D Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 80EE - Model 80EECTO The machine was bought with Windows 8.1 installed, we upgraded to Windows 10 many months ago. Everything was working perfectly 2 days ago when it just refused to boot up. I made a Windows 10 media USB and tried to run a start up repair, nothing happened.I went into the F2 boot menu and discovered no hard drive was installed.I took the case apart and disconnected then reconnected the HD.I then tried a Windows 8.1 media USB (in case I needed to use the originally installed OS). The F2 boot menu was now able to see the HD but the repair options still wouldn't work. From the Command Prompt, chkdsk reported an I/O error, and list vol says everything is Healthy but in RAW format:  Volume 0   C   RAW   Partition   425 GB   Healthy  Volume 1   D   RAW   Partition    25 GB   HealthyI understand from other forum posts that I could probably use a data recovery program to transfer my files onto an external HD, then reformat and start again. My problem is that the laptop came with no installation media and I have no idea what my Windows code is, or even if I should be looking at reinstalling 8.1 or 10. Is there any way at all to change the HD back from RAW to NTFS without reformatting?

hello .. i have recently downloaded an .exe file but as the downloading was over, the exe file changed to html .. i tried renaming the file with .exe at end but it wont help .. so is there any way i can change the html filetype to an exe file back?( its a setup ).. i downloaded this exe file though a download manager.

A:exe changed to html format

Remove the download, and repeat the download, saving it to a known location, then avoid clicking on it until you are ready to install it. We prefer to locate ours at a specific named location, rather than to the Desktop, and create a specific folder for that purpose... calling it, Downloads, or My Downloads, or anything that suits you... so you know where your downloads are routinely stored.
If this is a download for which you paid money, report this failure to the download site, and they will usually allow a new download... after telling you what to do with the old one.

I downloaded Format Factory because I needed a video in a Microsoft Video 1 ("AVC (H264)") file and no other program I had could do it

After I downloaded it, it changed my icons for things like .rar, .png, .jpg, and .tga files. Instead of the usual default .png icon I got an ugly looking folder thing. I made sure that I could still run them on my default programs. But the icons were still what Format Factory changed them it. So I uninstalled it thinking it would fix it, but it didn't.

I tried setting them to my default programs (even though they were already set to them), but it didn't change them at all. I also tried changing them to different programs (like changing .png files to be opened with notepad) and the icons did change, but when I switch them back they're still the Format Factory icons.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my default programs and that didn't work. My anti-virus Webroot didn't find anything so I don't know if this is just a file somewhere or a virus it doesn't know. I looked through every file on my computer and I didn't find anything. I downloaded a random picture in .png format and the icon is still from Format Factory.

I'm really out of ideas at this point. I don't want to reset my laptop, but I really want this fixed. I don't have a restore point either (because I'm an idiot) And I don't have the money to pay someone to fix it right now, nor will I have it for awhile. So does anyone have any ideas or know how to fix it?

A:Format Factory changed my icons and I can't fix it

Hi are you sure that Format Factory has completely gone from your system, when you uninstalled it did you do a restart, and have you tried CCleaner to get rid of any dead links also it has an uninstaller in there that way find it.
Also have you tried Revo Uninstaller Pro that is good one comes with a 30 day free trial

There are steps to take, but not if you've already swapped the hardware. You're best, and quickest bet right now is to use a Live CD to access your data, so you can back it up, then wipe the drives and do a clean install.

I was working on a Word document (about 48 pages) in which I had a full page tables on many of the pages for text. I was typing and I must've hit something because all of a sudden the text was huge and dark on all of the pages but it still shows as the right size and not bold in the choices on the top of the page. I closed the document and didn't save it but when I re-opened it it was the same. I highlighted it and used the format option but that didn't change it.

It seems to be stuck that way. I really don't want to re-type the whole document - is there any way to get it back to the way it was?

I am using Windows XP on a PC and the Word Version is older.

Here are a couple of links to some freeware downloads to convert from AVI to DVD format.

The above link gives information on how to go about converting your videos.

If you keep a backup copy of your videos then why not try these versions and see how the quality is? If no good, then you haven't lost anything.

A:How to delete temp and cookie files in window 7?

Download and install CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download .This neat little software gives option to clean windows temp files as well as cookies, cache and much more from the browsers you use.Keep one thing in mind avoid using Registry cleaner option as windows 7 is very good at taking care of its registry needs.

If you don't prefer 3rd party software then you can use in built system Disk cleanup option.Start-all programs-accessories-system tools-Disk cleanup.Choose the C drive and click OK.

Hello and welcome Atleast mate looks like quite a pickle you are in. Now two scans we would normally ask you to do are these if you haven't run them already
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
If these do nothing then post back please but just make sure you run them as admin and in safe mode if you want to as safe mode only loads the essential Windows files to power up. To do that shut down then wait a few seconds - power up while tapping F8.

Hi, this is my first post here. We got a new computer a few months ago, one with Windows XP. My son, who has his own laptop, set me up as the Administrator. My husband, who thinks he knows a lot about computers, but DOES NOT, has been entering the Temporary Internet file, and Cookie file, and deleting things without I imagine, even completely understanding what he is doing. The other night, he deleted some things while my 16 year old daughter was in the room, and she tried to get him to stop because she said , although she couldn't see the whole thing, a box popped up that said removing this might be harmful to the computer. My husband still removed it, telling her he "Knew what he was doing." The next day, I had numerous problems with the computer, including an inability to get a dial up connection, once I did get one, I could not get a lot of our pages to open, and several other things. My son ran Ad Aware, Spybot, and Clean Up, in case we had gotten something on the computer, but it didn't help, and he had to do a Systems Restore. My daughter then told us that my husband had been removing things from the computer. My son said to check here, and see if there was anyway I could add those files to the ones that only the Administrator could tinker with. A friend of his online last night said for me to just drag those items into my Administrator files, but my son was not sure if this would work, and doesn't want us to screw around with the files if it wasn't ... A:Can I password protect the Temporary Internet files and the Cookie file?

My, you do seem to be having problems. The answer to your question is that you can only protect folders that are in your user profile. Folders such as Internet Temporary Files and Cookies are common folders and therefore accessible to anyone. However, deleting files from these folders is unlikely to cause the problems you describe. I routinely clear out my temp files and cookies. It just means that for those websites where, for example, passwords are needed, you will have to re-enter them rather than it being done automatically, but it wouldn't stop access to sites. It's more likely that system or program files are being altered or deleted. If your husband is a restricted user, he shouldn't be able to alter these. If you've got problems with your computer you can try doing a system restore. Do you know how to do this?

hi there,

why does IE11 remove all web passwords when you use CC cleaner and the option "saved passwords" is UNTICKED? it seems as though it's ignoring that, unless they are stored elsewhere and they get cleaned with temp files and company cleanup.

That setting seems to work for Chrome and Firefox, where passwords are kept.

any ideas?

hi there,

I would like to know if it's normal that after doing a "maintenance" cleanup on the pc, Ccleaner & PC tools "Clen Your Disk" option, (cookie/temp files, etc), then IE11 will lose all saved passwords. on Ccleaner the option "Saved Password" is UNticked.

On Chrome and Firefox instead, even by cleaning cookies and temp files, the passwords are still there.

Is it a bug or is "normal" ? I am not saying my IE11 is not asking me to save passwords as some other people reported, mine works fine just that once you clean temp files and cookies, also the passwords go.

Very normal, if you don't exclude your forums cookies from the clean list.

My offline files seems to work offline all the time, even when it shows me being online. I sync most of my business files to my laptop for working at home at night.

When I edit a file from my Win 7 (pro, 64-bit) laptop, then go to edit it again, I get the version I had changed, but no one else does. This is causing huge difficulty, because my employees will start working in a sales forecast spreadsheet after I reconnect to the network and supposedly sync, but they don't get the latest version. Even doing a manual sync seems to make no difference.

It seems that if someone else edits something on the network share, it does update to my laptop, but when I update something, it doesn't transfer so that everyone else can use it?

Where should we begin looking?

A:Offline files doen't update files changed locally

It may help if you enable transparent caching which can be enabled through Group Policy. I'm not sure this is the same problem but it seems to apply to your problem.

Windows 7 introduces a new feature for Offline Files & Folders called “Transparent Caching”. With transparent caching, the first time a user opens a file in a shared folder, Windows 7 reads the file from the server and then stores it in a cache on the computer’s hard disk drive.

The second and subsequent times a user reads the same file, Windows 7 retrieves the cached file from disk instead of reading it from the server. To provide data integrity, Windows 7 always contacts the server to ensure the cached copy is up-to-date.

The cache is never accessed if the server is unavailable and updates to the file are always written directly to the server. Transparent Caching is not enabled by default and can be enabled through Group Policy at Computer configuration | Administrative Templates | Network | Offline Files | Enable Transparent Caching.

Hi all.
Today I got quite a shock out of the blue discovered quite a substantial amount of my files, about 4gb, changed/renamed to enz files. These changed files are in one of my external hard drives, though there are also other files in this same drive unchanged.
I really cannot recalled what I did to cause this. Though what I did in the last few days was to visit many websites searching for solutions to resolve some problems related to my Android phone with a faulty-functioning rom (OS).
On my laptop today, with the attached affected ext hard drive plugged, I scanned with Rogue Killer, Mbam, ASW, and my own Eset which discovered 4 wombat items that was cleaned.
The rest of the scans uncovered nothing.
In addition, I downloaded a program, Pareto, intended to help to open all these enz files. But I hesitated upon fearing ending in more troubles if I executed it. Besides, what is subsequently annoying is even after removing this downloaded Pareto, it still display a dialog upon every boot, showing checking for updates.
Thank You.

hi... got a used dell inspiron 2400(dimension) for $65 off of craigslist. it has a wd drive (150-200gb?) and xp and it works.
my old computer is an hp pavilion, with a wd caviar 320gb hd with xp pro sp2. i want to use the larger drive on the dell as master.

what i was thinking, is that i can put the small drive as slave on the hp, copy my files to it, see if they work on the dell, then format the large drive, put it as master on the dell, and reinstall xp. then, slave the small drive to copy over the files again.

if there's a better way, please let me know. i'm using the large drive on hp pavilion until i can find a reliable way to transfer files.

btw, i would also like to know if there's a trick to get the copied files working smoothly with a fresh xp.

If the goal is simply to use the larger drive as a boot drive on the other system...seems to me that simply deleting everything on the larger drive...then cloning the smaller drive to it...then replacing smaller with larger...accomplishes that.

Once convinced that the clone waas successful and boots, then I would delete everything on the smaller drive and re-partition it, using it for storage capacity.

There are various programs to do this sort of cloning, including EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition freeware. - http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm . As with any program...read the instructions for use before attempting to use.

hi all

The problem :- 3 weeks ago i had a trojan that changed all my data into system files.

What i did :- i deleted the trogan using nod32 then all my files disapeared. After playing around with my computer i disabled system restore, and changed the following options to my 'view file' in 'folder options'

show hidden folders
unchecked 'hide extenstions for known file types'
unchecked 'hide protected operating system files'

What happened :- i saw all my files but they were hidden and looked like they were system files. Half my data got corruppted so i deleted them, the other half had their normal extentions but i cannot change them to unhidden in the properties section . I tried copying them to another drive, my data got copied but the same format.

Help:- can anyone suggest how i can have normal view type of my files. please
Thank you

Welcome to TSG!

Download the exefix_cu.reg file from this page to your desktop (Works for Win 7 as well as Vista)
Double click the file to merge into the Registry.

If you can't download the file onto this PC, or transfer it using a flash drive, you'll have to create the file manually. Luckily Notepad opens up for you.
Open Notepad
Click File | New (do not save any changes if prompted)
Type the text in the following code block into the Notepad window:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Save the file on the Desktop as exefix_cu.reg. Be sure to change the Save as Type: box to All Files before saving.
Then double click the file.

Hi shabuza, Welcome to TSF!

Firstly, the information you have given here is far too sketchy to give a true assessment of your problem.
That said, please give us the name of the program you downloaded, and from which site you downloaded from.
Once we have this info we will be in a better position to help you.

Kind Regards,

Steps to follow before posting a hijackthis log

It sounds very much like you have a virus on your system doing this.
Follow the five step process; run the online scanners and see what they find.
Where there is an option to select an "autofix" do so. (See step two of the five steps).
Try running hijackthis in safe mode and see if your problems exist in safe mode as well as normal mode.
While in safe mode, follow step 3 for uninstalling any of the malware which are identifieable and listed in add/ remove programs.

Then post your log in a new thread on the hijackthis logs board.
Hijackthis is a tool best used when you have a trained professional analyzing the log and telling you what if any specialized tools are needed to remove your particular infestation. Attempting to fix things yourself may make matters much worse and make it very difficult to identify the source of your problem.

All of my .exe files have been changed to .lnk and now I cannot run any programs. I have tried downloading various registry fixes but the .exe files associated with them won't run so they do no good. My start menu doesn't work either. I have run virus scans and no viruses are detected. What could the problem be?

Hello I recently logged into my computer and found all my shortcuts in mozilla gone settings to internet gone as well as my utorrent settings. I am not sure what else is gone but its almost like my computer was wiped. Files are still there alot of programs not working or are gone from my desktop. I tried to run malwarebytes but it keeps not responding. What would be a good starting point to figure this out?

A:All files changed or gone

Please follow the instructions in THIS GUIDE starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it HERE. Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic. If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

Hey, I'm having a problem where all of my txt files have been changed to .ctbl files. When I open them I get a bunch of gibberish or japanese text. It happened overnight and I cannot afford to lost these files, I have some of which are valuable and irreplacable to me. Please help!

A:All txt files changed to .ctbl

A quick Google search shows that .ctbl files are a sign of a cryptolocker virus, a particularly nasty virus that encrypts all your files and holds them for a ransom, usually the virus will notify you that you need to send a certain amount of money to them for them to unencrypt the files. Unfortunately, if they really did encrypt your files, you probably will not be able to unencrypt them. You would need their encryption key. It's possible that it's a fake cryptolocker virus and that it didn't actually encrypt the files. Try copying one of the files and renaming it back to "filename.txt" and see if it opens.
Either way, you definitely need to post in the Am I infected? What do I do? forum to see if you are infected and find out how to remediate.
Do you have any physical backups of your files?

As I understand it, Windows 10 backup writes every file from every folder you select to the backup drive. Is there any option, or other backup software, that uses the file status bit (if that's what it's called) to only backup those files that are new, or changed, since the last backup?

My objective is have an external drive that is essentially an updated version of my internal drive, but not to create complete backup sets of everything - and therefore taking much longer to backup, as well as using up external drive space much faster, and having to delete past complete backup sets.
