Outlook 2013 shared contacts off server view

Q: Outlook 2013 shared contacts off server view

Win 7 with Outlook 2013 installed. Working as client to MS server
We have a shared contacts file for everyone in the building (10 clients) called "AMAG Contacts"

My Contacts (now called People in O-2013)
Opens to my personal contacts (no prob). Not AMAG Contacts, but I can click on AMAG Contacts and open it OK. New emails default to the AMAG contacts OK. this Q is for whan I am opening the Contacts list.
When I click on AMAG Contacts it has a list of pictures and names.

When I open AMAG Contacts I can click >View>Change view>By Category (or whatever??)
BUT neither AMAG Contacts nor my view change is persistent. I want the changed view to be persistent across closing O2013 and reopening it

1. Is there a way to default to AMAG contacts when opening contacts?
2. Is there a way to make my view of choice persistent? I like the Category view.

I cannot find any dialog that allows me to do the above.
Several others in the building have asked the same question and I think the older versions are more straightforward and controllable.
Can this be done? I perused Outlook options and saw nothing there either.
Pls advise
Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a desktop Pc and a laptop Pc with Office 2013. I want to export the contacts fra from the desktop to the laptop and when I export to a csv file on the desktop the e-mail adresses is missing in the file. They are not in the csv file. When I import it on the laptop names, phonenumbers, adresses etc. is ok but no e-mail adresses.

I think it is strange and I have not experienced it with Outlook 2010??

Peter

I imported the backup.pst and it did the trick.

A:Export Contacts from Outlook 2013 to Outlook 2013 on another Pc?

when exporting as a csv file you have to map custom fields first and take the email 1 address and move it into the other side for the addresses to get in there (from left to right) or the email addresses will not go correctly into the computer you want to do it to. If you back it up with *.pst then everything goes in much easiwer

I am so confused about where outlook 2013 keeps things.

I have installed Outlook 2013 and would like to import my contacts from my outlook 2007 in another computer. I have already prepared the contacts.pst file from outlook 2007 and made it available in my public folders. I then imported the .pst file into Outlook 2013 via network. However the contacts shows up as a separate contact list rather than integrated into the outlook 2013 address book . How to correct it?

I must have got the process wrong.

Thanks

A:outlook 2013 import contacts from outlook 2007

OK. I found the imported contacts in a separate list inside the address book. There are 2 lists one is "In This computer" the other is just "contacts" . How do I make the "contacts "list as the default so I get an address book when I click on 'To" ?

Export to file:

I use Sync PST for Outlook. Allows me to load two pst files and copy (between the two either way) only what I want to e.x. contacts/email/calendar etc

My outlook 2013 automatically creates email contacts when I receive an email with multiple people in the recipients bar. The results are that I have 1800 contacts including people I have never heard of. I sync with Icloud through an Imap system. I have contacted Apple and Microsoft. Apple says the settings are in the Outlook and Microsoft said they couldn't assist me and that I should try the forums. Help!

When you receive? Are you sure? IIRC, it only creates contacts using the email addresses you send email to. Of course that means if you forwarded an email that had 1,000 email addresses in it, all 1,000 of those email addresses would be added to your contacts.

I can't believe I can't find the answer to this dilemma, which I've tried to solve for years. Hoping someone might have some insights. I have my own business, and keep a Contacts table in Access 2013. I also have a Contacts folder in Outlook 2013 that I want to keep in sync with my database. Sometimes changes are made in Outlook (or using GSyncit to sync with Google on my phone or tablet) and sometimes when entering service calls in Access. When I go to created a "linked table" from Outlook to Access, I get a separate table of contacts that will not sync with my existing table. Every week, I have to literally export Access data to an Excel CSV and import into Outlook, then go through name by name to choose the latest entry to keep. Ridiculous! I've googled and googled, and I have found no joy. Any ideas??

Hi

I would be grateful for any advice with a problem on the shared contacts folder on our Outlook 2002 / Exchange 2003 system.

The original shared contacts folder was accidentally moved to a personal folder when someone tried to copy it. I was unable to move it back, probably as they did not have the correct permission to do this. However, I did successfully restore it from our back-up tape, and ensured everyone's Outlook pointed to the new folder (deleting any references to the old folder, same name) and that it was also marked as an e-mail address book. Everything looked fine - we could see the addresses and create/edit etc in the folder. However, for some reason we cannot search within the folder! We have over 1700 contact cards, but when you try to search for a known item the search finishes far too quickly and tellls you there are no results. All the permissions seem to be correct, so I cannot see what could be happening.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks
Sorrow

I have Outlook 2007 that is used with Exchange. My company has a contact list that is shared between 4 users. I am the owner of the list.

The problem I am having is making this list show up in the 'folder list' for the other users. I can see the contact list in my folder view (I'm guessing b/c I am the creator), but they are unable to see it in their 'folder list' view. Is it possible to make this happen?

Also, we are having trouble syncing this specific contact list with the iphone. Do you have to be the creator of the list to sync with the iphone?

Every user has owner rights and can edit, delete and create any contact card.

Please help! Thank you...

I've tried researching this but don't seem to be able to get the right search terms to find anything. I have a user who has been given access to her attorney's contacts folder through exchange. The problem she is experiencing is that when she opens her attorney's contacts folder on her computer she is not seeing all of his contacts. If I go to the attorney's computer and view his contacts list I can see a name that does not show up in his contacts folder on her computer. Since this is shared through exchange there should be no difference. She also says that she has experienced times when her attorney would add a contact to his folder and she is not able to view it. What could be causing this?

Hello all:

First time poster.

In the folder/tree view on the left in Outlook 2007 (Windows XP Pro) the Contacts folder is not showing up.

In Outlook 2003, it was right there underneath Calendar, which, by the way, is also missing from the Folder/Tree view.

I can access my Contacts via the big tab at the bottom but I want the tree/folder view as it broke up the hierarachy very nicely.

Any ideas?

Thanx in advance,

Use "Folder List" view to see all of your folders in a single list. Either click the little folder icon in the Navigation Pane on the left-hand side or click Go | Folder List in the Menu Bar.

I have Outlook 2013 through Office 365 and liked it until I tried to import my contacts. It's a CSV file from Windows Live Mail. Unfortunately Outlook absolutely refuses to import my contacts properly. I get everyone's names but NO EMAIL ADDRESSES! Totally and completely useless. I have tried everything and Outlook just insists on ignoring the email field. I am beginning to hate that I pay $9 for this crap. It shouldn't be hard to import contacts!!! I tried to delete all the ones that had been imported since they are useless to me and of course Outlook refuses to let me do that too. I can't find the folder anywhere and it won't let me delete all. If I sound angry I am...I am frustrated and don't have time for this. I need my COMPLETE contacts. Why is it refusing to do something so simple? When I open the CSV file in Excel everything is there including emails, so it's not me messing up or the file. Help??

I have been scratching my head and searching everywhere, but I seem to have only questions and no answers to this one. I have a business where I keep all my clients in an Access 2013 database. The tables and queries include all contact information, and I also enter dates when I have had appointments with each client along with details of our sessions. Each week (or whenever I get around to it) I must do several things:
update all contact info in Access and export the data to a folder in my Outlook Contacts
enter dates from my Outlook Calendar into the Services table (via a form) and fill in details
export updated Contacts from Access to Excel to upload into my Enewsletter program to email newsletters to clients
make sure my Outlook contact info is syncing correctly with my Samsung Galaxy (I use gsyncit, the best app I've found for this)
refer to my contacts on the phone to get addresses as I am on my way to each client's house or business

Quite a pain, right? If only I could set up a system where any new changes to contact info made EITHER from Outlook OR from Access automatically synchronize AND the address info is included in my Outlook Calendar entry for the person AND a service entry is entered in my Access database for that call, wouldn't my life be easier?! Isn't this why I have Office 365 in the first place? And most importantly, why can't I figure out how to get this done??

I am trying to share an Outlook 2007 Contacts folder in order to print envelopes from a list of about 500 addresses through Word. When the "sharee" right clicks the folder and selects Properties, there is no tab called "Outlook Address Book," thus making the option to "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" is unavailable. Apparently, there was a work-around for Outlook 2003, but it clearly states that it will not work in Outlook 2007.

I need to have more than one person with the ability to maintain this address book, but certainly not everyone that would see it through the Exchange server as a global folder. Can this shared folder be made available as an e-mail address book, or is my only option a public or global folder? Can the editing capability for the public or global folder be designated, and to more than one user? And restricted to other users?

Only Windows 8 apps using WinRT can have live tiles.
Outlook 2013 isn't a WinRT apps. You should use the Mail apps (that can use any Exchange server) instead.

We use Outlook 98 (tried upgrading to 2000, but had problems - but that's another post!)

On a small LAN, one user set up a contacts list, which we all share and edit as needed. That's been working just fine. However, another user was trying to change their display of these contacts so that an extra line of information (fax #'s) would show up on the initial window. Gave up on that idea and we're not sure what happened, but now her contacts won't display at all. When she selects contacts, the right side of the screen just says "unable to display the folder." You can see that tool bar items are missing on the top, too. It's gotta be something with her view or display, because everyone else's PC is OK. We tried re-installing Outlook and that didn't help.

Any ideas?

A:MS Outlook contacts view

You will probably have to delete her profile. The rules for her alone are in her profile.

When she added the line she changed her rules and they do not match the rest. If you set up a new profile for her then you should be able to import the rules for her so they are the same as the server.

You might be able to import the rules and that alone may work.

All,

After using Office 2013 for the better part of two years - today I go to do a Quick Print (to my PDF Printer) on a Word attachment within a Outlook email and get this annoying message:

Office has detected a problem with this file. To help protect your computer - this file cannot be opened.

Then if I click on the Show Help button - I see this:

"The Office File Validation feature has blocked this file from opening as it may contain harmful content.
More information about this error message online."

Then I try another email and another - ALL give me the same message.

I have gone into the Trust Center settings in Word and Outlook and turned off everything I could find on Protected view, added all local drives as Trusted locations etc etc and NOTHING worked.

I do not see any references to Office File Validation and need to find a way to stop it.

I cannot find any way to print any Word doc to any printer - if it is an attachment within a email.

My gut feel is that this last Office Update pack (Sept 2016) via Windows Update -which I applied a few days ago - has now compromised my scene.

Anyone else come across this - with any way to shut this crap off?

VP

A:Outlook/Word 2013 - Cannot open ANY docs due to Protected View

Hi:

The normal workaround for trouble printing directly from an attachment or link would be to first save the document locally on the computer (e.g. desktop) and then print it.
That usually works when attempts to print just do nothing...

HOWEVER HOWEVER from the warnings you're seeing, it sure sounds as if, in this case, you may be dealing with a potentially malicious file.
Email attachments are a common means of ransomware transmission these days.
But it could contain a malicious macro distributing a range of malware.
As such, I do NOT suggest downloading or saving or opening or printing the document in question without more data.

Disabling security features and lowering Trust Center settings sounds like a dangerous strategy, until more information can be obtained.
Those security settings are in place to help protect you.

I'm also not quite clear of the scope of the issue. At first it sounded like you reported only a problem with "Quick Print" of a specific attachment. Then you said you "cannot find any way to print any Word doc to any printer'.

So, perhaps you could please clarify for us a bit?

Also, what happens if you use the workaround (save the document to the desktop and then try to print) using a KNOWN, SAFE document attachment (as opposed to the one(s) that is/are throwing up the security warning)??

Thanks,
MM

Outlook 2007 in the computer of one of the users in my company cannot view or edit a shared calendar. When I try to open the calendar it pops-up an alert that says "You do not have permission to view this calendar"

It doesn't seem to be a rights or permission issue, because when she access using her account information in another computer, she is able to view and edit the calendars. Some of the other computers have Outlook 2007 as well, so I'm wondering if there is a setting or an extra step that I need to configure in Outlook 2007 in order to access those calendars?

2. Then B needs to ' open' A's calendar in his computer by : right click on 'my calendar' - add calendar - from address book.

MS Exchange server with our own mailbox.
11 clients, all Win7, with mixture of Office 2013 and 365.
WE share calendar and directory (oops call it "People" now)
Issues with the Shared People list acting up:
Somehow the address book (?People?) Groups do not want to cooperate, AND the ?TO? dialog box on new emails. This is occurring on multiple computers.

Open new email
Click ?TO?
Scroll to B Group and add to email
Right click on group to open/expand
Failure message: = The name or contact group has been deleted and is no longer a valid address book entry. The attempted operation failed. An object could not be found.
I tried to delete the group and recreate under AMAG contacts
Opened up group and was able to add only one person. It did not find the others.
Add members Failure = the dialog box with email addresses does not find individuals requested
On a new email: the ?TO? dialog box fails to find names. I even went to People, resaved the contacts after opening them to try and fix a contact.
Using the ?TO? dialog box appears not to have names beginning with H,P,Q,R Also some random names. I am looking for Gloria Nnnn. She is on the People list, but does not appear in the ?TO? dialog box. Seems as if there are no names above GENE ... (names above GE..)

We can work around this but it is an issue with the software.

Also This occurs regardless if PC3 is connected via wire or wireless. Additional notes AV was also disable to rule out. That is the only thing running on PC3 and nothing is running background wise on PC1 or PC2.

PC1 can easily view contents of Shared PC2 instantly.

PC2 can easily view contents of Shared PC1 instantly.

PC3 can easily view contents of Shared PC1 & PC2 instantly.

PC1 & PC2 can not view contents of Shared PC3 instantly; it takes approximately 35 seconds to view contents of main shared folder and same for each additional sub-folder. Also if copying a file initially it takes awhile before it starts and then stars off slow around 585KB/s copying over from PC1 or PC2 to PC3 before it jumps up to around 10MB/s+. However if I copy the same file from PC3 to PC1 or PC2 no speed issues what so ever. Speeds actually get well up into 70MB/s.

Any thoughts?

Hi ejcohen3

Found this in the newsgroups, I don't have Outlook 2003 installed yet, to try it.

Rename Outcmd.dat to .old with Outlook closed. Next time you open Outlook,
you can create all of your toolbars, arrange them as you like per folder.
Close Outlook and copy the Outcmd.dat file you created when you recustomized
the toolbars. Save this in a safe place. Whenever you add customizations
to the toolbar, remember to copy that file to your safe place. If your
toolbars corrupt, all you need to do is rename the current file and
substitute the most recent backup.

Hello.
I've just found a pst file with all my old email. I'd like to put them back on the server (hotmail) but before doing that I've seen that some of them were not recived (or sent) to my actual address (@hotmail.com) but to an old one (@infinito.it). So I was thinking to export them from outlook 2013 to CSV, modify that address into the new one and then import them back on outlook 2013. The problem is that when I export them to CSV, in that file they don't have the date (received or sent) and so when I get them back on outlook 2013 they miss that info.
Can anyone help me doing this? I've been told that VBA macro should be useful for this, but having a look in it I have no idea of what I sould do.
Ah, instead of outlook 2013 I can also use thunderbird (45.3.0) if it's easier with it, but then I'd have to convert that pst file.
Thanks!

Hi there
Unless you have an ACTIVE Internet connection (or other Network Mail Server connection such as Exchange) you will NOT be able to set up OUTLOOK 2013.

Outlook 2013 requires (and there is no option unlike in Outlook 2010 to disable it by unchecking a box) a TEST email to be sent and working before your account(s) can be configured-- Once it's done you don't have to be online but if you need to set up several accounts and you don't have a working internet connection -- Tough luck.

Why on earth did Ms do this --it's not necessary and it is a Hassle for some people who are on the road, have purchased Office 2013 and want to set it up instead of having to wait until they get home.

Also a hassle if they want to prepare company laptop computers with email parameters in advance of the new Exchange email servers being rolled out to the users.

Even if your work policy has mechanisms where the USER can configure the email connections themselves they won't be able to set it up until the Servers are actually in place so you can't set the accounts up in advance.

The box I've shown here is from Outlook 2010. In Outlook 2013 the option is filled in and greyed out so you can't change it.

BTW I prefer and use Office 2010 myself but was trying to help a colleague to set up Office 2013.

Cheers
jimbo

Of course you can uncheck the Test email box. It has been so in all Outlook versions, is still so in Outlook 2013.

The option is grayed out exactly as long as the NEXT button is grayed out i.e. as long as they could not be used due missing credentials, until the setup has all relevant information for an email account to work (email address, incoming and outgoing servers, username and password). When you have filled the needed credentials, both the Test box and NEXT button become visible and can be clicked / selected.

Although I could well understand that setting up an email account, which in any case needs a working connection, would require an existing connection, this is not the case with Outlook 2013. You can set your email accounts up while sitting in a pub in Brussels watching Premier League Football without Internet connection if you want to .

I've got 8 people on a LAN and want them to access a "shared contacts" folder on the server. How do I...

1. Create a shared contacts folder in each OE5? It seemed to disappear once I configured everyone's email.

2. Specify path to server?

Thanks for saving me bunch of time!

My office has the following problem. Several of the people can't access the shared contacts. SOme problem with permissions...Any ideas...I will post back with more details...

A:shared contacts

Are you using an Exchange Server? Is it in-house or is someone else hosting it?
The Shared Contacts, is it like a Public Folder that was set up? Or do you mean the Global Address list that you see when you hit 'To' in an email?

Bring on the details.

HI Guys, tried uninstalling office 2010 to open Outlook 2013 when I got the two following errors:

1: The resource that you are trying to use is located on an unsupported version of Microsoft exchange. Contact your email administrator for assistance.

2: Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Your Microsoft exchange administrator has blocked the version of Outlook that you are using. Contact your administrator for assistance.
Does anyone know what these two errors are referring to and how I can fix it so I can start using Outlook 2013?

Many thanks.

Hi, I was trying to backup my contacts on my Nokia E-71 phone using Outlook 2007, this is my first time doing it. So apparently the current Outlook in my pc already has a whole bunch of contacts which belonged to someone else and so both of our contacts are now merged together, is there a way to undo the sync?

Short of deleting the contacts on your phone which don't apply to you, I don't know what else you can do.

Im in the process to make an Excel (2013) contacts address workbook and have all my contacts in Excel now. I would also like to have some kind of a V-card to be able to input new contacts and view existing ones. A typical V-card could be like the one I downloaded from here

http://www.addressbooktemplate.org/form/

I can make my own V-card but the problem I have is how to integrate the V-card to interact with the contacts database I now have.

Anyone can give me some help or perhaps provide an existing template?

I came across some information on the internet at

http://www.commodore.ca/misc/misc/shared_calendar/share_outlook_calendar.htm

which seemed to show exactly how to setup Outlook to share contacts without having to purchase multiple Exchange licenses...I was unsuccessful, but I think it's because we're running NT Server 4.0 instead of 2000/2003 Server...

Does anyone out there know another way to do this for NT Server...?

Thanks in advance,

David Covenant

A:Shared Contacts without Exchange

If I am understanding you correctly, we did this in our office by creating a public folder and copying contacts to it. As I recall, we didn't have to have any special settings in Exchange, it was simply a "shared folder". I don't have Outlook installed anymore so I can't be more specific, but I know it wasn't difficult.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I have multiple issues regarding address books and contacts. I am currently trying to organize multiple address books on my Win 2000 desktop(outlook express) my laptop XP (outlook 2007) and my IPhone 3G. They are a mess because of old cell phone backups combined with address book entries. I now have multiple entries for numerous contacts etc.
After organizing all these contacts/address books I would like to import to my new Win 7 desktop (outlook 2010 beta) and retire my Win 2000 desktop. These are all stand alone computers that are not networked other than through a router to share broadband access.
I tried searching for software to help combine and organize all three of these but had no luck.
I then tried manually updating all my contacts on my laptop and Iphone but I ran into a glich of sorts. After making the changes on my Iphone and doing a ITunes sync, some of the contacts disappeared. Right now I am not sure how many, but I noticed a few of the ones I use alot are gone on both my laptop and Iphone.
I do not subscribe to or use the "mobile me" feature.
I have spent quite a bit of time searching the net without finding a solution.
Any help you can provide would be much appreciated!
Thank You!
Ron

How can I import the 251 contacts that exist in my Contacts folder into Outlook 2007?
When I drag all of them into Outlook contacts they create a single contact.

Thank you for looking.

Hi johnbigbootie89,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Let me apologize that it took so long for someone to reply to your request - but it is now active and I think we'll be able to resolve it. In fact, I think I have just what you need.

Check out the following article: Importing contacts from Windows Contacts folder | MSOutlook.info. Make sure you use the Vista procedure. It seems the article was designed specifically for this purpose so I have high hopes it will accomplish your objective. You do not drag the contents (which is essentially copy/paste) - you use import/export instead.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!
