I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The laptop came with pre-installed Windows 8.1 x64 and I wanted to install Windows 7 x64 Ultimate so I could enter it to a domain. I made a bootable usb with Win7 and reached the partition section on the installation wizard.
I deleted all the partitions that the system already had (Recovery. MSR and others) and procceded with the installation succesfully. After the installation finished, my system was not able to boot and it is restarting every time it reaches the
"Starting Windows" screen.

The partitions for the HDD in the beggining, looked like this.

Hello guys, I just bought a new Lenovo 100-14IBY Ideapad without an OS. Installed Windows 8.1 and all of the drivers from the Lenovo Support page, but the Wireless adapter is just not working, it's not even recognized in the Device Manager. I tried switching the Airplane mode on and off again, checked the configuration settings in the BIOS and the WAN is enabled. I don't see a physical Wireless switch anywhere on the laptop and there is no "F" button for turning the Wi-Fi on and off on the keyboard.. so at the moment I don't know what else to do. I have also tried all of this on Windows 7 also, of course no success. Could someone suggest something please? Many thanks!

Hello, I like to replace my standard harddisk in my Ideapad 100-14IBY with a SSD. I have read the corresponding Maintenance manual and followed the instructions step by step.It is impossible to remove the keyboard without breaking it, it seems like it is glued. Is there any advise, other than sending it in to a service partner, how to safely remove the keyboard ? I just don´t get it why Lenovo really makes it so hard for users to change the drive in this particular model. Thank you in advance

I just bough new 110 ideapad, unfortunately, it does not have any Windows Installed, only DOS I have tried to install windows from CDROM, but it is not an option. I have changed Boot Mode on BIOS to UEFI / Legacy Support, none seem to be working. I have applied all the fixes I have read on this community, but none seem to be working. The system has USB Boot Enable/Disable Option, PXE Boot to LAN (which I guess I shouldn't be using), and IPV4 PXE First Enable / Disable Option. I have encountered all manners of error messages and I am pissed right now. I just need who will tell me what to do, or perhaps, I should return the system.

how to install windows 7 on this.  Here's what i've done: I've used both the Windows 7 DVD and i created a bootable USB wiith it (UEFI Boot).  They work. I disabled the  security in the bios, so i could work with UEFI, but when i boot the machine with either, the windows 7 loading screen happens, then it freezes on the Starting Windows animated logo.  I can get no further. When i set the bios to boot in legacy mode it gets past that part, but then asks me for a driver.   I've downloaded all of the windows 7 64 bit drivers on the Y700-15ISK driver page, but none of them seem to be the driver that windows is looking for. Right now i'm a little at the end of my rope on this.  Any help would be appreciated.

I've recently run into a problem with my Lenovo ideaPad y510p where I pass the splash screen and then my screen just goes to black. I can't get it running off of a flash drive with Windows 8 in it (the logo appears and the little loading circle spins but after 30 minutes of waiting it doesn't boot). I've also tried using a drive with ubuntu on it but every time I try to get that to work it seems that the download I have is messed up. If anyone has any suggestions I will try them out.

I installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on my Lenovo ideapad Y430 (which came with Vista Home Premium 32-bit). It worked fine for a few hours. However, it now freezes up within 1 minute after I sign on after rebooting. The cursor stops moving, Task Manager won't come up, no disk activity, etc. Booting in Safe Mode works fine, so I'm thinking it's an issue related to a driver or service that doesn't load in Safe Mode. Event Viewer doesn't reveal much of use; only the fact that I needed to power off without shutdown. Vista still runs fine on another partition.

Has anyone seen anything like this, or have any ideas on how I can get Windows 7 running again (e.g., by identifying and removing/updating the offending driver/server, if that's what's causing the problem)? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Sounds like you got a driver from Microsoft update that is causing you problems. Try a system restore and then turn off automatic updates so you can then choose which updates to install. Watch out for driver updates and do them one at a time till you find the one messin' you up.

NOTE: Just because it's from Microsoft doesn't mean it's the best choice.

A:Windows 7 Pro freezes on Lenovo Y430 ideapad

(Self-plagiarisation: )

The fact that it seems fine (as it's never happened - not even once?) in safe mode is A Good Thing, because it suggests that the causes are software-based. Something that loads in normal mode but not safe mode is presumably the culprit.

One way to start troubleshooting is with the MSCONFIG utility. Start off by choosing the "diagnostic" startup mode and rebooting. If that works, as in there are no hangs, go to "selective" startup and disable/enable the various optional components until you zero-in on the culprit.

If "diagnostic" mode doesn't stop the hangs from occurring in normal mode, uninstall your anti-virus and any 3rd-party firewalls (disabling them is not enough). Test what happens when running without them.

So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 750 GB
BIOS: 45CN36WW

It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.

So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.

Anybody have any suggestions on what the probl... Read more

Hello everyone,I am using Lenovo Ideapad S405 with Windows 10 64-bit installed in it. Few hours ago when i was waking up my laptop from standby, i noticed that my display resolution had changed from 1366x768 (16:9) to 1024x768 (4:3). I went to the Device Manager and saw my display adapters (AMD Radeon HD 7450M & HD 7600G) with caution signs. I look to the properties of both drivers, and looked at the device status dialog box, it said, "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. Just before the July 29 deadline I updated my Lenovo G40 IdeaPad to Win 10.
Everything appeared fine except that I couldn't get a WiFi link!
Eventually Lenovo "support" advised that there was no available WiFi driver for the G480.
Desperately, I had to uninstall Win 10 and revert to Win 8.1.
Can anyone advise on this. I find it somewhat unbelievable that there isn't a driver for the G480 model - it's not that old.
If anyone can help, I also need advice on how to update to Win 10 beyond the July 29th boundary

Hello,I just installed the free Windows 10 upgrade on my Lenovo Ideapad p400 touch last night.  I woke up this morning and booted up my computer, and everything was fine until I attempted to change the brightness.  When I tried to do this, my screen went very dim, and now I can't adjust the brightness (and I can't read my screen well, either).  Normally, I would install/reinstall the video driver in order to fix this problem (recommended for other users with similar issues), but I currently do not see a Windows 10 version of the driver I need on the Lenovo website.I was wondering:a) if/when a new driver would be available to install (if that's the recommended solution)b) is there something else going on?c) Windows 10 allows you to revert back to Windows 8.1 within the first month of use.  Should I just do this?d) Is the p400 touch capable of running Windows 10? Why or why not?Thank you!

A:Upgraded to Windows 10 on Lenovo Ideapad p400 touc...

If you look in this list -
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103535

P400 is not listed as a supported system. I doubt it will be supported in the future but you can always call and ask Lenovo directly.

Why it is going dim?
This is because of the Chipset or the Intel drivers.

What you can do to make it functional?
- Try uninstalling the chipset and Intel drivers --- Restart --- Let drivers install automatically and check.
These can be uninstalled from "Device Manager" and "Programs & Features" in Control Panel

- Revert back to windows 8.1 (This option may or may not work - Did not work on my system)
- Reset laptop to factory settings

good luck.

I hope you will allow me to link to the experts here. It has not been possible to clarify the information with the OS or notebook manufacturer.

Problems using a Lenovo Ideapad s300 primarily for use as a desktop machine prompts the clarification of possible causes and remedies. A link to a previous unsolved post to resolve the problems is documented at [1]. This post attempts to clarify the minimal mouse and touchpad driver requirements. The s300 uses an external display and mouse. The machine performed well, and reliably for approx. the first 7 months until 21.05.2015. After an automatic Windows 8.1 update; it began independently deleting folders, files and Desktop icons on the mouse Left Double-Click in Windows 8.1.

An obvious problem with the installed driver is in Control Panel -> Mouse Properties -> which displayed a "Hardware" tab, but no "Device Settings" tab as in [2]. The touchpad cannot be deactivated. As shown in [1] Device Manager displays no "Mouse" driver conflicts. This suggests a Mouse driver or Touchpad driver problem. The presently installed mouse drivers are shown in Device Manager at [1].

What are the minimal required mouse, keyboard and touchpad drivers for Lenovo Ideapad s300?

Clarification:
1) When is the Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan) for Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit) required?
2) What is the recommended procedure to install the Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan) for Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-... Read more

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad p500 laptop with a Intel HD 4000 graphics card and is running Windows 10 that has issues when attempting to connect to an old Polaroid monitor of mine. The cable used to connect them is a VGA cable, and as soon as the cable is connecting them, with the monitor on or off, my laptop's screen quickly changes to a smaller resolution (with black bars on the side of the screen), then erratically goes completely black for a second. The screen comes back, in a different resolution, and I cannot interact with anything. My laptop notifies that "Display driver Intel HD Graphics Drivers for Windows 8(R) has stopped responding and successfully recovered." If I unplug the cable from either device within 5-10 seconds of the driver first crashing, the laptop reverts to normal as if nothing had happened. If not, the laptop crashes, saying "VIDEO TDR FAILURE" and then proceeds to restart. I upgraded my laptop to Win 10 a while ago, and has since then worked with the same VGA cable and monitor and cable that I am explaining about now. My Windows 7 basically blew up and is no longer working. I tried a one-key recovery as well which utterly failed. As a last resort I tried using Windows 7 recovery disks sent by Lenovo. There are 4 disks 1,2,3, and an additional disk. Everything seemed to be going somewhat smoothly, although slow up until disk 3. The screen shows

"Current Item: ApplyOs" "Recover process is running please don't remove your power adapter."

It's been like this for days. The blue bar load bar under it seems to still be running. Tried again, this time with 4 different disks sent by Lenovo. The first 3 disks went a bit faster, but the end result was still the same, getting stuck on "ApplyOs". Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I tried changing it back to UEFI and it gives me the same problem as shown in the picture. I tried installing the public update, but it says that I cannot update as the current bios version is the same or newer. I went into BIOS and enabled BIOS back flash, and now when I try to start the public update, it just crashes. I also cannot access the start menu (this problem may be seperate and unrelated) I have backed up files and am prepared to do a clean reinstall of Win10, but I feel this won't work as it's a BIOS issue. The computer is unusably slow: what should I do? Thanks

Hello, I need help on my Lenovo Companion app with it's dust removal option. I just bought my Lenovo ideapad 700 for a week now. Previously I had the dust removal option in the Lenovo Quick Optimizer widget on taskbar. After I turned it on, the option never existed anymore in the quick widget and even in Lenovo Companion app itself. Would really love to see this feature again in my new laptop.

Hi I'm new to the forums and I'm having a problem installing Windows 8. I downloaded the Win8 assist and proceeded through the steps and purchasing a copy of Win8 Pro. Now it led me through to a long download where it took at first 11 hours but I switched Ethernet cable in where it momentarily paused before continuing at 1 min download. Then asked for a reset so I did. When coming back no sign of win 8 assist. Now whenever i click on Win 8 setup it says:

Setup is unable to launch Install.exe

The system cannot find the file specified.
[Errorr = 0x80070002]

Has the download been corrupted to the internet change? If so any idea how I can uninstall the original donwload files and do it again?

Many thanks in advanced for any advice

Hi, I have a thinkpad x201 that fails to start. Tried startup repair, but says it can't fix the problem automatically. Tried restoring to earlier point, which says its successful, but still unable to start Windows. I found an old thread where someone had the same problem and was advised to run the fabar recovery scan I did in case it is helpful, here is the log, thanks so much for any advice Scan result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) (x64) Version: 18-11-2012Ran by SYSTEM at 19-11-2012 03:43:45Running from E:\DownloadWindows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 (X64) OS Language: English(US) The current controlset is ControlSet001==================== Registry (Whitelisted) ===================HKLM\...\Run: [SmartAudio] C:\Program Files\CONEXANT\SAII\SAIICpl.exe /t [307768 2009-11-15] ()HKLM\...\Run: [SynTPEnh] %ProgramFiles%\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe [x]HKLM\...\Run: [TpShocks] TpShocks.exe [x]HKLM-x32\...\Run: [RotateImage] C:\Program Files (x86)\Integrated Camera Driver\X64\RCIMGDIR.exe [55808 2008-10-30] (Ricoh co.,Ltd.)HKLM-x32\...\Run: [PWMTRV] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~2\ThinkPad\UTILIT~1\PWMTR64V.DLL,PwrMgrBkGndMonitor [5941344 2012-05-16] (Lenovo Group Limited)HKLM-x32\...\Run: [AVG_UI] "C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG2013\avgui.exe" /TRAYONLY [3116152 2012-10-10] (AVG Technologies CZ, s.r.o.)HKLM&#... I bought this Yoga 2 13" in early 2014 and loved it - except for a hardware problem. The sound doesn't always work, and it is sometimes manipulated by touching the keyboard, which seriously indicates that it is a hardware problem. The computer screen consistently tells me that I've just "plugged in" or "unplugged" an audio jack, when I'm typing or sometimes doing nothing at all. It is humiliating when I'm showing my screen to a coworker (who then asks, "Why is your expensive laptop malfunctioning and distracting me with these popups?"), and it is inconvenient when I'm trying to watch a movie with speakers (because it will literally mute my movie, diverting sound to the audio jack). After months of discussion on Lenovo forums (because some other users had this problem), Lenovo concluded they would not stand by their laptops, and would not replace the laptop or sound card, but would investigate the problem if someone with the problem would volunteer to forfeit their laptop for 6 weeks so that Lenovo can have a look at it.  YEAH - who is going to go without their laptop for 6 weeks? So I've lived with this problem ever since (a problem which pops up several times a day). So - FAILURE #1, Lenovo. Windows 10 update - I tried this when it was available - and it destroyed my ability to function. My screen would flash or shut off entirely, and simple programs like Adobe Reader stopped working. I reverted back to Windows 8.1 until Windows FORCED me to update (first they... Read more

I have a 256 SSD a larger HDD.  Just bought this P50 and stupidly decided to use the Lenovo USB Recovery to get Windows 10 Pro on board.  Got halfway through the process and got a "Recovery Failed" notice.  I think it wiped both my hard drives in the process.  I can get to the F1 screen and the F12 screen, but that's it.   I had followed the Lenovo literature to make OS Optimized Defualts set to "enabled" and then went through the process. Now I'm not sure what I can do.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, I'm actually have the same problem too.

Reinstalling Windows XP and problems accessing Laptop HDD to backup files

I have been using the command below to install XP onto another HDD for my Targa as a upgrade/replacement. I have been using the Targa laptop long with the new HDD plugged inside an enclosure to do the installation as I know that it couldn't be done on different computers due to different hardware and drivers.

E:\I386\winnt32.exe /syspart:D: /tempdrive:D: /makelocalsource /noreboot

where E is my external DVD drive (main CD drive not working) and D is the new HDD plugged in the enclosure

I think it was on the "preparing installation stage" and it said it will take 60mins. After copying all installations files to the enclosure, I think the /makelocalsource commands makes it do that. After it finishes copying the files the install window just closes and I was left with all the files it copied to the HDD on the enclosure. I pretty sure the window shouldn't do that and just to make sure I took out the 160GB HDD from the enclosure and replaced it witht the current HDD into the HDD bay of the targa and as I expected it didn't work.

The 160GB was formatted in NTFS beforehand (Quick format)so I didn't tell setup to format it again too but I wasn't too sure of the file allocation size so left as default. I just tried making another partition on the replacement HDD too with 800MB as FAT32 but after entering the comma... Read more

In the past this laptop failed to reformat the harddrive no matter what condition the harddrive is in so i came to the conclusion there was a problem with the northbridge chipset as after doing memory test's and reseting the bios still no errors with showing in the components.

I have tried to go around this by purchasing a 2.5 inch IDE laptop caddie and removed the orginal hard drive and plug it via usb so i could possibly install xp on the laptop with a removable drive instead.
I have tried multiple discs and multiple versions of xp with the SP3 failing at 33% with the error of unable to copy the file spnike.dll and on SP1 failing to copy lprmonui.dll at 29% on the install.

If anyone could sheld some light on this laptop and what could fix it be much appriecated :D
I think that maybe the laptops CD drive could be faulty, i have experience with computers and laptop hardware and software repairs and studing computer networking so i am not a noob and are abit stuck, thank you for your help :P

Sounds to me like you need a new hard drive first and foremost. There are really 4 reasons for install failure being hard drive, memory, cd disk or cd drive but this sounds like the hard drive to me.
