Acer paperweight

Q: Acer paperweight

I have an Acer Aspire laptop which the user password was changed and forgotten, also all other accounts were deleted. I am unable to do ANYTHING with this computer now. We bought a new laptop, but want to get the pics and music of the HD. Any ideas on how to get those files, or how to get passed the password? I've tried the password reset disc downloaded online, but didn't work.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Does anyone have a solution for this or possibly can the Wifi adapter be updated or a different adapter be installed to work ?  I bought the laptop from a co-worker and it had windows 7 on it and someone removed the factory refresh so that's not an option either . I guess you could try connecting your computer to the router via ethernet and see if Windows automatically downloads and installs a driver for your wifi. You could also google search for "USB WiFi dongle" and see if you can get one that works with Windows 10.  Or run over to Best Buy and I'm sure they have a USB WiFi dongle they can recommend for $10-$25.

Hello everyone, I'm at my last levels of patience with this issue I'm having. My brother purchased a GPU a few months back on a new computer he was building, unfortunately it didn't seem compatible with this system as it would artifact like crazy so I took it and he took mine. Everything was great until about a month ago when it started to artifact for me as well, just small ones though. It bugged me though knowing that it was the GPU itself that was bad, so seeing as it still had a 3 yr warranty I decided to RMA it, I wish I had kept it instead and dealt with the small dead pixel looking artifacts.

Before I RMA'd it, I tried the latest drivers to no avail. The new one that arrived though, I wiped the old drivers clean using Driversweeper in safemode of the old GPU I was using in the meantime while I waited for the new GPU to arrive. I tried out my computer only to have LARGE artifacts, have my system freeze for a few seconds, the lower half of the screen artifact and then go back to the desktop. This happened with just about everything I did. I tried different drivers as well but that didn't help and starting up a game would immediately BSOD. I emailed AMD and they paid for the shipping this time for the RMA. In went my older card which I might add did it's best trying to run borderlands 2 at almost the highest settings with minimal stutter.

The new card finally arrived and...same thing. I tried Memtest86 with no errors, installed a new SSD cl... Read more

Hi,Great forum.
I feel so stupid.ok here's the deal.
My w7 was running like crap,so I decided to reinstall w7.
I burned 3 recovery disks.

So far so good.I thought these 3 disks were the the complete windows 7
system.
I now know they are for repair and recoverey.
So when I finshed burning the disks.

Cut a long story short

I had two options in bold red letters.
I erased the harddrive, can't remember what the other option was.

(the one I should have taken)
So I reboot expecting to load w7 up with the disks I just burned.

I get a grey screen with

I am trying to save this pc for a friend but I think it may be beyond hope. It is a Dell dimension 3000 running windows XP Home. When I first turned it on it was very slow, i disabled a couple of memory hogs. This speeded it up to closer to a managable speed. I tried to run HiJack This on it but it would run and start to populate the list of results and stop and disappear. After this every time I try to open HiJack This again it tells me that I don't have permision to use this program. I tried to do a scan with AVG and I can get into far enough to click the scan pc button but when I click on it nothing happens. I talked to the owner and they said all they wanted off the pc was their pictures and their taxes. I thought I would just burn these files to a cd and format the pc but whenI right click on the pictures and tried to send to cd drive nothing happens. I tried to copy and paste the files but the paste feature cannot be selected. I also tried to a system restore and it said that system restore could not protect my pc to restart the system and try again. Any ideas what to try next??

Unfortunately, I am unable to get my laptop past opening Chrome, so I am unable to download TSG SysInfo to give you a log. I was trying to do some recon on my Toshiba Satellite L855. It had started acting erratic a few months back, so I ran Malwarebytes and Windows Defender, but neither came up with anything that looked suspicious. I was still having issues with it, but I didn't really need to use it this semester, so I put it to the side for when I had time to try to work on it. Looking through the files under Control Panel/Programs, I came across a file called SavingsBullFilter. I tried to run uninstall, but was unable to have it removed from my files. I managed to come across a file in my Temp folder called InstallFilter64 and Isp2 that seem linked to SavingsBullFilter as the download/date modified are the same.

I have read several ways to remove SavingsBullFilter/InstallFilter64, but they all involve downloading programs that my laptop will not allow me to do.

Ok so here is what happened. When trying to find a way to remove Mcafee Security Suite from my computer, I believe what ever it was I downloaded and installed from an unknown site (thought it was safe and it was ridiculously hard to find any info on uninstalling from Mcafee's Site alone!) Turns out after running that uninstaller, it totally deleted many important files and rendered my laptop useless!

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 with Windows XP SP2. Here are my problems:

1) CD Burner Drive itself has problems reading CDs. Sometimes it will read and sometimes it wont, keeps making clicking sounds as if it's trying to pick something up. After starting my laptop with XP CD inside, it notices the CD and goes into the "Reinstall Windows" phase with the blue screen but gets stuck at where it says on the bottom "Setup is loading files (Key and debugger) or something like that. Then the CD doesn't spin like its supposed to so it just fails completing that step and comes up with an error.

2) Anything you put into my USB hubs in the back, all it says is "Found New Hardware" and gets stuck there. Never does anything else. So this means that the external cd rom drive I have is useless as well.

3) Since many important files have been deleted, nothing works. No internet, nothing. Internet explorer window opens for s plit second and immediately dissapears.

I dumped and reinstalled Windows XP on my M2010 and got it back up and running, I then put in the resource disk and started to install the drivers. First I installed the Bluetooth and moved on to the next driver, while doing this the Bluetooth mouse wizard popped up and my computer froze. I hit the power button and the computer shutdown. I rebooted and windows loaded, but I have no use of my keyboard or mouse. I connected a USB mouse and keyboard, they light up but do not respond either.

I tried to pair the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, they light up but never pair. The Bluetooth icon is in the task bar, but the inside of the icon is red.

When I plug in the USB mouse and keyboard they light up but my computer does not message that this hardware has been connected.

So basically the only thing I can do is turn the computer on and off.

SO,
My vaio (vgn nw250f) is running windows 7.

About a week ago I turn it on, and it flashes red and black stripes at me. (very 8bit looking stripes) It tries to load, fails, and then starts up in safe mode.
I have tried malware bites and norton to try to find something, norton found a trojan but it was removed.
(I don't know all the details...by boyfriend tried to clean it up and fix it)

I am still getting the stripes, and think that it may be a corrupted file?

I have almost given up and would have wiped the computer to factory settings but, in safe mode I can't change the resolution to see enough of the screen to find the "check this box to okay this" and the "ok" buttons...

so, if there is any information that may help my stripes (which after set up are about an inch wide and teal and purple and are very pixelated) or help me figure out the safe mode resolution, or any other ideas....
that would be super appreciated!

-need any other info...go for it and ask....

Did is come with restore disks, or is there a restore partition on it. Most companies provide something like this with any machine they sell. But it will wipe out your data. If possible, see if you can get it backed up.

The HP Notebook 15-ac129ds has unfortunately been a useless red paperweight for the past year. I've had continuous problems with system lock ups since day one. It was a gift and I was really excited to have a new system but hesitate because I wasn't a fan of HP products as my last systems were Dell and other brands. Now I remember why I stayed away from HP.The outsourced system oversees has been an even bigger turnoff. Considering I've worked in tech system and software report for years I expected the techs to be knowledgeable, definitely not the case. The last draw was today after spending over an hour and a half on the phone and still not have resolution only that I need to reset it back to the factory settings. Which means backing up and reinstalling any software which by the way is easy since I never installed anything but virus software to protect my computer from viruses. Since it never worked properly from the beginning this will be worthless. If this is any indication of the support going forward I'm definitely canceling the 2 year extended support I purchased. If after all this time the only thing they can say we can't do anything for you because we can't connect remotely, basically you have to start all over again when the computer still didn't work then I'm absolutely & positively done with HP.Not to mention I had to educated "Hector" who resides in India about being pleasant & not over-talking the customer. My problems started a couple days ago, when I woke my computer up from hibernation (which is how I always shut it down for the night) and my monitor informed me it was not receiving a signal. After swapping various cables and monitors around, I swapped out my new 9600GT EVGA video card for my old 7600 one. The 7600 card worked, but only when using the VGA port instead of the DVI port. Note that my 9600 card only has DVI ports. So I sent a message off to EVGA to see what I could do about fixing this problem. They promptly told me to try removing the CMOS battery and seeing if that worked. It not only did not work, but now my computer refuses to boot. I can get to the BIOS just fine, but past that i get a message saying to insert system disk. The OS will not boot from the system CD or the hard drive. At this point I just want to get the OS booted again without reinstalling Windows, but if anyone has any ideas about the original video card problem that'd be great too. Thanks. Oh yeah, system specs:

Asus M2N4-SLi mobo
2 2gig sticks of DDR3 Corsair RAM
2 HDs, both seagate, 1 120 gigs(the C drive) and a 700 gig for extra stuff

Hi everyone,

I've got a $6000 duel Xenon 3.6 that is nothing but a paperweight right now.

I've had this machine for 1.5 years and ever since new it's had this recurring problem of freezing when I try to log in. I'm the only account on the darn thing. It used to be if I restarted 4-9 times it would eventually load the desktop. I'll save you the long story with the mfg. but after they reformatted the hard drive, I reloaded all my software, (Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Avid video editing, and MS Office 2003). It worked great for about 1 month and then started the locking up again. Today I've rebooted no less than 20 times and it hangs every time. It comes up on the desktop blue screen with no icons or taskbar and that's as far as it will go.l

If anyone can help I would reallhy appreciate it. I refuse to deal the Guy Graphics out of Utah any longer. They insist the machine is fine.

Thanks,

Chris

I just got a new custom built gaming rig from Komplett. I've spent over 1500 on it and have been at my wit's end the last few days with problems with it. I feel like I've just bought a very expensive paperweight! The system is as follows:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.67GHz Socket LGA775, 8MB
Asus Striker II NSE, nForce-790i SLI, Socket-775, DDR3, 3xPCI-Ex(2.0)16

Thermaltake Toughpower 850W, Modular, 8xSATA, ATX/EPS, 4xPCI-E, 20/24pin
Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit

I've also ensured that I have the latest nVidia drivers. The system will play any game I put in it at the highest settings, with awesome FPS, but with constant hang-ups and crashing. For example:

CRYSIS: Can play for anything from 5 to 15 minutes and I'll then get a black screen, a CTD, and a message telling me "the display driver nvlddmkm encountered a problem but has now recovered." I've searched online for problems with that driver and it seems like it's a b1tch of a problem with no sure cause or cure. But, out of all the games I've played on the system, Crysis is the only one that ends up showing that message.

I've been getting a lot of BSOD lately so I decided to do a system reboot using the built in gateway recovery manager as I don't have a vista disc to hand.

Anyway, midway through the reboot process I got an error stating a stupidly long file was corrupt and my only option was to restart the PC. Only now I cant even boot windows as this POS software half wiped it before deciding it'd had enough.

So now when I turn my PC I'm greeted with a "windows failed to start" screen due to "winload.exe" being missing. It tells me my only option is to insert my non existent Vista disc and repair. A non option for me.

So now it looks like I have to get a new HDD and operating system because of faulty software.. yay. Also contacting Gateway for support is a no go. The only thing from gateway that still exists in this PC is the HDD, The serial numbers were lost when I upgraded my case and I've moved continents since then.

So yeah. Anyway got any ideas? As you can imagine I'm quite livid. Typing this from my wife's laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone, im posting on here to try and find an answer to my problem as windows 8 customer support couldn't give me any answers to fix it so they dc'd me and wouldn't let me connect to support chat -_-.
Basically what has happened is wondows forced my laptop to go from 8 to 8.1, I will make this very clear I did not want the update, I have automatic updates turned off, and can't afford to have my laptop reset and loose all the work ive done since the last save point. So over the last few days I kept getting a window popping up trying to get me to update to 8.1, I said no. but everyday since then the same window pops up, normally causing most of my programs to crash. Today though the same screen popped up and didn't give me an option to cancel, it said 15 min to restart and update and could not be stopped. My laptop then rebooted and now no longer works, nothing shows up on the screen anymore, the backlight comes on when you switch it on but that's it, screen remains blank and not able to even see the boot options or login options, ive also tried just connecting it to my tv through the hdmi out but nothing. So I contacted support 2 times, both times they were clueless and even had to explain what a blank screen was, both times they replied with I see, then dc'd and it would not connect back to the person, even took screenshots of this.

Anyway has anyone else had this problem? or anyone know how to fix this?

Hey all. First time poster here, I hope someone has some clue as to what's wrong with my laptop.

So to start, I just bought this laptop about 4 months ago. Acer running Windows 7. I had downloaded ad-aware and scanned a few times in the past with clean results. I normally use an iMac so typically viruses never concern me. 2 days ago my laptop began running incredibly slow. Everything I tried to open would take minutes to start. I checked my task manager and it didn't appear that anything was gumming up the works. I have a very rudimentary knowledge of computers, so I tried to work it out the way I had in the past. I tried running a system scan with ad-aware and it wouldn't even load, so I was able to get into safe mode and scan. Surprise! It found a trojan virus. Me thinking, yay, problem solved, I chose the recommended option, restarted in normal mode and everything ran perfectly again to my relief. I thought everything was hunky dory, and hours later, it starts happening again, but now I can't even enter safe mode. Eventually I decide I'll try to do a full reboot to factory settings, discovered through so googling that holding 0 while holding the power button will do that for me. I then let it reinstall the OS and hours (something like 16 or so) later its finally up and running but nothing will open. I force a restart and now I can't get past the windows logo for hours and when it does nothing opens. Me being the naive idiot I am, I didn't choose a warranty through neweg... Read more

On the day of my college graduation, I clicked install update from Dell for BIOS and now I have no computer. I've seen that Dell says they can fix it with a new motherboard but that I will have to pay. I paid for this computer already! It was Dell's update that destroyed it. Now, what is Dell going to do to make this right?

I have had a Brother MFC-3220C for about two years and not had too much trouble with it until today. After printing out about 30 pages, I noticed a display that said "Error 41 Unplug printer and call Brother." Before doing this I Googled "Brother printer Error 41" and was met with an avalanche of people complaining that Error 41 means that the print head is bad and needs to be replaced and that this is an all-to-frequent problem with Brother printers. Several people indicated that they got "Error 41" messages a few months after they had replaced a print head in their printer after previously getting the message. The tech. at brother said that if I had purchased the printer in the last 24 months (which I haven't) a service center would replace it for free; if not it would cost me around $40 for the print head plus labor. I am thinking that it might be cheaper to buy a new printer (considering this problem with Error 41 messages seems to be a manufacturer's defect). The printer that I have is a printer/copier/scanner/fax machine, and I am interested in buying something like this multifunction machine.

Are there any suggestions as to which brand is the best with regards to printer/copier/ scanner/faxing machines? I am thinking Cannon but I really don't know which is the best.
thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Hello, my new Acer Aspire Notebook has my IE homepage stuck to global.acer.com and I can't change it through any of the IE options (Use Blank, Use Current, or typing it in manually - I'm trying to set it to Google).

I went to this page to solve the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q320159 (Home page setting changes unexpectedly, or you cannot change your home page setting).

As per Microsoft's instructions, I tried changing the "Start Page" value in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main," but I got the following error: "Cannot edit Start Page: Error writing the value's new contents." There was no "Default_Page_URL" entry in there.

I was able to change the "Default_Page_URL" value to "Google.com" under "HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" and the "Start Page" value in there was already set to "http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&clcid={SUB_CLSID}&pver={SUB_PVER}&ar=home"

The "Default_Page_URL" and "Start Page" entries don't exist in the "HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" key.

Lastly, the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel" subkey doesn't exist either.

I would appreciate any help you could give me, thanks!

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5742, IntelCore i3-380M
I am attaching a few pictures of what comes on the screen when I turn it on.
Even in safe mode it does not let me log in, it attempts repairs, it fails and then goes to the black screen with the white cursor.
If I try to start windows normally it loads the logo and then goes to the black screen.
Yesterday, in an attempt to do repairs it was replacing invalid security drivers or something like that and it was taking ages so I had to turn it off.
For the last week it took very long to start up, failing to configure windows but it would eventually let me log in.
Since yesterday I am only getting the black screen. it is windows 7 by the way.

i need a very quick reply please

Hi all,
I have a Compaq Presario CQ56 64-Bit (Windows 7 Home Premium) laptop that I bought before the summer, today a Windows Update has given me an Acer display update published on the 28/12/2011. I thought because I had my vga cable plugged into the TV Windows Update may have become confused but despite checking for updates again it still appears there as optional.

AMD/ATI is recognized by Windows and Windows Update and there had already been a display driver update not so long ago, so I cannnot understand why I'm receiving an update for the wrong machine?

A:Acer - Display - ACER S271HL update on Compaq Presario CQ56 64-Bit

Not actually for AMD/ATI almost monthly you can see a newer update become available and that's why you will see one listed as an optional hardware update for the integrated graphic chips on the laptop.

Since Windows detects the tv you are using as an external monitor that also becomes a detected hardware. If that happens to be an Acer brand tv that would explain why that particular update came about.

Hello, apperiantly one week back acer deleted "Acer Launch Manager" keyboard driver for acer laptops and i cant find it anywhere, its like NEWER REALLY WAS THERE BEFORE... O.O

actually there was 2 options of keyboard driver to choose from (acers website): one driver was made by Acer itself, another one - by some dritek.

Unfortenatly they probably think that dritek driver is better so they left just that one.
i dont know, maybe its better, but its UGLY! cause this driver gives logos indicators on display when i use VOLUME, BLUETOOH, WIFI, etc buttons... the logos by dritek is retarted comparing to acers. actually i realized that acers logos is like mac's.. maybe thats the reason they removed from download section..

anyway, i wan my old driver back its beautiful and its better, cause with that driver my power button was atleast recognised as "P" button. Now its just opens panel where i can set up shortcuts to buttons that i dont ewen have! wtf acer is thinking about?...

I bet some of u guys still have old good acer app+driver installed that is called Launch Manager and shows nice square black transparent logos when u press volume keys.
I had that one before i reinstalled windows. So please, could anybody send me? if u dont have install, maybe then just compress whole folder from program files? i think it should work, cause drivers would be same but app is the one that make logos.

My system is roughly 5 months old. I had used the upgrade software that Acer provided to upgrade from Vista to 7 home premium. There was no issues with the install and everything worked great for a month and then it started going in to deep hibernation. The only way to wake it was to unplug the power from the tower. I did everything I could think of from editing the registry to updating drivers, to finally reinstalling everything. No go so I packed it up and sent it back to Acer. I just got it back from Acer's repair depot. They had to replace the motherboard, hard drive, and fans on the system. They performed a factory restore and told me that I was good to go and updating shouldn't be an issue. I went to use the upgrade dvd's from Acer and low and behold, the hibernation thing started again! It took me four attempts to restore it back to factory. Now it seems stable running Vista. I am in the process up updating the drivers and windows stuff so time will tell. Is it me or is Acer systems flakey?

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about updating to Windows 7 without having to format every week? I have tried doing clean installs without going the upgrade path and it still behaves badly. Sometimes it won't even turn on. Or is it just possible that the pc I purchased just can't handle Windows 7?

A:Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software

Are you booting the Acer Win7 Upgrade Media DVD to do a clean install? You can do that to get the cleanest possible install, without the corruption that is imported from Vista in an in-place Upgrade.

The installer is driver-complete, but afterwards any missing drivers which don't quickly arrive in Optional Windows Updates can be found on the apps/drivers CD along with favorite apps like Works, cam, etc. Others can be found on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (flash, Reader) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

Hey There

First of all: I'm a studend, so I can't speek good english, cause I live in Switzerland (plz write in German if you can )

So my Problem:

I've found a Acer Aspire 5920G with Windows Vista. This was so slow and annoying . So I deleded the whole OS and installed Win 7 Home Premium x64. Now I'm searching some drivers for my Notebook. My biggest Problem is the sound driver.
In Vista, there was a tool called "Acer eAudio Manager". I want to install it, because you can switch the equalizer to movie, music and game (and it sounds awesome with the bassbooster=D). I've downloaded the driver from the website and there was a error:

"This software can only be installed in authorized machine"

what can I do to install this tool? Some other tools, like acer power management or acer enet management, works great.

I thought I ask in this forum, because there were some good topics about the mouspad and synaptic of the 5920G (wich helped me=D)

I hope you understand my question and can help me

Greetings

(And yes, I'm a real Linux fan^^ I've used always Ubuntu. This is the first time that I use Windows )

Hi everyone I'm at my wits end! I cannot get my webcam to work. I have tried numerous options posted in different forums and on websites but nothing seems to work. Even when I went to the Acer update driver search site. When I added my model number I got about a dozen driver options but as soon as I put in my OS Windows 7 (64 Bit) it came back with no drivers. I've noticed in a number of forums that peoples webcams where working fine in Windows XP but when they updated to Windows 7 they lose the ability for their computers to find their webcams. Is this an inherent problem with Windows 7 and is there anyway to fix it short of buying an external webcam. Surly there must be a way to get it to work !!!

Hello. It's the second time when I come here.
First I had this problem - https://forums.techguy.org/threads/my-laptop-wont-boot-from-usb.1173499/
and now it got worse.
I don't know what happened to my Acer Aspire ES 14 (ES1-431-C8JZ). (I haven't dropped it or something like that)
When I turn it on, it stucks on Acer logo screen, and then I can't do anything.
I tried to restart it, same problem.
I tried to enter BIOS, Boot Manager, nothing works.
Then I disassembled it, reset bios, and again, nothing worked.
I made a bootable USB - Slax, I tought Linux could fix this, but it doesn't work. It doesn't boot. I tried to remove the hard drive so I can boot with Slax like this (I've heard about this feature of slax - to boot even without hard drive) but it won't pass the Acer logo.
It would be great if someone can tell me where is the problem or how to fix it. Thank you.

A:Laptop Acer won't load past Acer logo screen

Did you ever solve your previous thread?

It's possible that your hard drive is faulty, and it can't boot into Windows because of that.
I don't have any experience with Linux, so I can't confirm if Slax allows you to boot without a hard drive installed.

Do you have any spare hard drives lying around? If not, consider purchasing a low capacity one, installing Windows on it, and trying to boot then. If it still won't boot, then you didn't spend much money on the hard drive, and it'll narrow down your issue a little more.

Worst case scenario is there's something wrong with your motherboard (as per your other thread involving your USB ports).

It's just stuck at that screen. What do I do? How do I fix this? I need this computer for school.

Not sure why this happened but you can try rolling the system back to a previously working configuration. Try the steps to roll it back at http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37096/~/windows-10%3A-restore-windows-from-a-restor.... If Windows Updates ran prior to this happening something could have installed that caused this. Restoring it back like this should resolve the issue.
