How to get rid of Internet Explorer... for good!

Q: How to get rid of Internet Explorer... for good!

I'm just going to show you how to navigate yourself to the trick because there is no explanation needed.
1.Click the Start button.
2.Go to Control Panel.
3.Click on Programs.
4.Click on Program's and Features.
5.On the left side of the screen click on the "Turn windows features on or off".
6.In that box untick the Internet Explorer 8 box.

Internet Explorer should be gone in a few restart's.

Preferred Solution: How to get rid of Internet Explorer... for good!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: How to get rid of Internet Explorer... for good!

That does not get rid of the IE, it just disables it.

Hello,
I am new to the forum, but not new to computing. I recently started having problems with this Vista Home Premium box not being able to resolve DNS names for only computers on my home network (all others XP boxes or Windows Server 2003). It can ping the IP addresses of the local boxes. It doesn't have a problem connecting to the internet. But this is a big problem when it comes to sharing files within my local network.

I have disabled Windows Firewall and McAfee Firewall and Services to try and diagnose the problem.

I have been googling this for a couple of days looking for ideas, but I have none. I have validated that DNS is running. NETBios over DHCP is enabled. Subnet mask is 255.255.255. DHCP and DNS server IP is correct.

Anything that anyone could point me to try? I am out of ideas.

A:Ping on Workgroup Computer Names Bad / IP Addresses Good / Internet Good

Unless you've got a DNS server running at home, it's rather unlikely that DNS is being used to resolve names of your home computers when pinging by name. Instead, the machine does a broadcast (on the local segment) to the effect of "if you're called XYZ, please get back to me and tell me your IP address".

If that's not working for you, my first inclination would be to suspect firewalls on the other machines - not necessarily on the machine exhibiting symptoms. Try disabling and even uninstalling (3rd-party) firewalls while you're troubleshooting, and also test what happens when all machines are booted to [safe mode + net].

Hi,
I have recently reinstalled XP pro on a PC and do not have internet connection using Internet Explorer or Firefox, I cannot ping either of my other two computers.
I have installed the Mother Board Drivers.

Device managed tells me that both network adapters are working properly, Local Area Connection tells me that I am connected although send/receive packets are about 1 (send) and 20 (receive) after an hour of being told there is a connection.

I multi boot with Windows 7 and a Linux system and they both have internet connection so it seems to be restricted to XP.

Any suggestions on what may be wrong would be appreciated.

Hi, i am new at this, so bear with me lol

We have just moved our XP computer into the living room, and connected it to a 58kb dial-up connection. We installed AVG 8 and everything was running fine

Now we've installed Windows Live OneCare Family safety on the machine so we can monitor my borther and sisters internet usage.

Now, the computer runs extremely slowely, Windows Explorer continually crashes, meaning we have great difficulty opening My Documents, and My Computer or anything that requires Explorer to open

As well as this, now the internet is majorly slow... even for bloomin dial-up, we used to get at least 9kbps, but now its shot down to between 2.5 and 1.5 kbps

AVG is now continuously scanning... even outside of scheduled scans, and constantly wants to update :S

And finally, i have now noticed that small files i dont use very frequently have begun to dissapear from the system!!! music files, images, word docs etc.

We have tried defragging it, scandisk, using AdAware SE Personal 2005, AVG Scans, and they all come up with negligeable results.

As well as this, now the pc wont install files for Trend Micro Online scans to run... so we cant even work it out that way :S

I have a suspicion this could be something to do with OneCare, or Multiple Viruses in the system that have somehow hidden themselves from AVG

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello, i am having a problem with the internet at my home. The compter works great, never had any issues. I have an HP comp. that is about 4.5 years old, and run windows vista. i dont know much else about it because i am not at home at the moment. But for the past couple weeks we have had trouble with the internet. When it first started acting up the web browser would not work. It would show that it was loading but nothing would ever load. So we had to close the browser then re-open it to get it to work again. This went on for a coulpe days and then it quit working all together. The computer says we have a good connection to the internet but we open up the browser and try to search something a message comes up saying "firefox cannot connect to the server at google.com, or espn. com, or wherever.com". But our Nintendo Wii still works with the wireless internet fine, we were watching Netflix on it the other day without any issues. All of the green lights are on on the modem and router. I even called comcast(our internet provider) and they did a modem reset, and walked me thru some kind of IP checks and a proxy check. The guy told me everything was fine on their end so it must be the computer screwing up. I ran malware bytes on it today thinking maybe that would help but it did not. Everything on the computer works like a dream, except for the internet. Can anyone help me??

Running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

Explorer.exe has been crashing a good deal and it's annoying me to no end. It occurs especially when I cut some files/folders and "click on" the explorer window I want to "paste" the files into. The appropriate error log will be listed in the next post.

Just to let you all know, this laptop had some problems when I received it: DRP infection caused by no antivirus software, which I promptly fixed by installing AVAST and scanning with AVAST + 5 other anti-malware and anti-virus tools. So far, no more viruses detected, just some mild malware(ad-tracking cookies and so on).

Then there're the bluescreen crashes but I'd like to get to those another time. I might have fixed most of them or not, there's no way to tell. I'd run driver verifier but that seems too risky. So far, the main indicator is some driver connected with the Realtek 8187b wireless lan.

There were also other error problems(IE crashing, bonjour errors, etc.) in Event manager but I fixed about 60% to 70% of them by uninstalling or disabling the softwares: bonjour, toshiba service centre, google toolbar(crashing IE), daemon tools(and that annoying sptd.sys) etc.

The pc also had a system restore done in safe mode. It said "failure, restore unsuccesful" but when I rebooted, it said the restore was successful. So far, I think it's just some minor files and folders which didn't transfer properly. There've been no sudden increase in amount of bs... Read more

and again I know this is very broad information, I appologize, if someone could tell me where to start looking to fix this problem, or provide the info to you to let you help me, I would appreciate it

thank you

By no internet connectivity i assume you mean that it is connected to the internet but it is not able to get on/ access the web? Also I would scan the computer for malware first before trying anything else. You also will/ should update to service pack 2 when we are/if we are able to solve your problem.

When I connect to my enterprises network, for some reason it downgraded my version of Internet Explorer 11 to Internet Explorer 7. It doesn't do this on my home network or on any other network I have connected to, only my enterprises network.
I have contacted my ICT department to see if they can solve this issue, and they don't know how to fix this issue.
I used the website https://supportdetails.com to check the details of my browser and what other websites detect it as, and it detects it as Internet Explorer 7 for some strange reason. When I check the actual version of Internet Explorer
by going to the Tools button and then About Internet Explorer, it says I am using Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.18763.
I am running Windows RT 8.1 which might be the reason as to why other websites/services detect my browser as IE 7, as other devices such as the Surface Pro 3, iPad and other laptops all work fine.
If there is a way to make my device be detected as Internet Explorer 11 and not 7, that would be great.

I'm having issues connecting to my wireless internet (Belkin). It says I have good signal strength and is transferring at 54 Mbits/sec, which is normal, but when the firefox is brought up there is no internet. It tries looking up the home site before saying server not found. I've tried resetting the wireless key, checking work offline and unchecking it and unplugging/re-connecting the wireless USB and still the same result. I'm using a laptop on the same network and it works fine.

The problems began last Friday (Dec. 30). It coincided with a snow storm we were getting so I initially thought it was related to the storm, but the issues have continued ever since. The internet will come back on in spurts then disappear. Yesterday, it worked all day until about 6 pm and it hasnt returned.

I'm also getting random spikes in my CPU usage, even when I am not on the internet and no programs open/runnning.

I'm not entirely certain the problems are malware/virus related, but just wanted to rule it out first before going to my provider.

Computer is Dell XPS 200 using XP Pro.

Hey guys, i am having a strange problem with my internet connection. I have the ALFA 500mw usb wifi card. I just re-installed windows 7 yesterday on a new harddrive. The internet signal says it has an excellent connection with full bars, however a few seconds after it connects, the internet just seems to stop. After a couple minutes it will start working again, then just cut off again. The connection is never disconnected though.

Any suggestions on what I could try? I was messing with it for like 4 hours last night with no success.

Since you said you tried for 4 hours, I'm assuming that you uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers? Also, if it is a new wifi card (never heard of alfa... except the cars) perhaps you have a bad card!

Hello everyone and thank you for participating in this wonderful site.

My computer is a Pentium 4, 2.80 GHz, Running Windows XP Proffessional Version 2002 Service Pack 2.
The problem I'm writing about has been there for about a year. All in all it's the same prolem ever since, but every once in a while some detail changes, like a new error message.
Every about 5-15 minutes the Start Menu Taskbar and the desktop icons disappear (Explorer crushes). Most of the times they reappear shortly after, but sometimes they don't, and then I use task manager to run explorer and then they reappear. Yet, sometimes the computer stucks altogether, and I have to restart. In addition to that, many popups open when I surfe the web using Internet Explorer. The popup changes every few days, but in between it's always the same one.
Another point is that while the crushing of explorer can occur anytime, it most often occurs while I open or close Internet Explorer windows.

Sometimes I get an error message, and as I said, they change from time to time. But still, here are 2:

rundll32.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x74725956" referenced memory at "0x00a10004". The memory could not be "read".

I'm a network neophyte. I have 3 desktop computers on my home network. All 3 have worked with the D-Link DIR-615 wireless router for both LAN gaming and internet. Until 2 weeks ago when our 2 year old Dell Dimension E510 quit accessing the internet.

It started with limited or no connectivity issues. So when I hard-coded the ip address in the range of the dhcp server on the router (am I saying this all correctly?) [192.168.1.100 - 199] I got LAN connectivity again. I can network game, but the computer won't get to the internet.

I've read several threads, so let me feed you some more info on what I have tried.

Hello, I really hope one of you can help...

My desktop PC has suddenly developed a niggling little problem that means it is all but useless now. When opening most programs, IE, Windows Explorer and Opera the screen gets caught in a juddering motion that seems to act like the software is switching between Restore, Full Screen and Maximize functions, at the rate of about 6 switches a second. As you can probably imagine, this means the computer is more or less useless, and it's getting very frustrating. I've called the shop where we bought it, and got the usual "It's not our problem, try system restore, or restore factory settings". Tried system restore about 3 days ago, and no matter where I try to restore to it's having none of it, and then I got stop in a lovely "Packard Bell recovery program (which includes the system restore program)" loop, that stops actually being able to boot into Windows as it goes on a restarting loop, again, and again and again, until all of a sudden it'll boot. For this reason, System Restore is now switched off so I can continue getting into Windows. Programs not affected are Media Player, Photoshop, Outlook and RealPlayer plus others.

I assume this is a software issue, but I would really like to be able to sort this without having to wipe the whole computer.... Please can anybody help!

Dear Tech guys,
I badly need your support. Day before yesterday (01-Aug-06) night I upgraded the yahoo toolbar and used their norton anti spy to scan. Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. Every thing is perfectly ok except for one thing. In Windows Explorer, on any folder or drive if I double click or open I get a crash. If I do explore then there is no problem.

Below is the dialog that comes whenever we double click or open (for eg: on C:\ or any folder in the left side pane of the windows explorer. If I just keep expanding the + of the tree no problem, only on clicking the item to open the following error occurs.)

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

program: C:\Windows\Explorer.exe

This Application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I am running on Windows XP SP 2. I dont have google toolbar. I have yahoo tool bar installed. I have tried uninstalling it and installing it again and other combinations as well.

I have also tried sfc /scannow as well. It did not work.

It doesnt look like any adware or spyware (yahoo's norton spyware had done a complete run and no problems in the system as reported by them).

What should I do now to get back to normal operation of windows explorer.

Thanks and Regards,
Naga Kumar S

I would un-install the Yahoo Toolbar and then put Google Toolbar in, Then I would try to download .NET framework 2.0

and install it. If it tells you that you already have it re-install it anyway.

About a week ago, I turned on my laptop to find that Internet Explorer was freezing and crashing. When it crashed, I wouldn't get the normal Windows error reporting message, but instead Windows Explorer froze and I was forced to restart. When I restarted -- stupidly, more than 10 times in 2 hours -- the first few times, a few ad windows and anti-virus downloader screens popped up. I scanned with Housecall, and an infection with Mal-vundo came up that it couldn't repair. I downloaded SpyBot, AdAware, and AVG free, and not much popped up that I knew how to fix other than a dat file called __c001BA5E, and a few others. I tried to delete these on reboot, and it seemed to work for awhile. Soon enough, though, both explorers were crashing again. I've tried to avoid rebooting, but I can't help it. I'm not sure what else to do at this point.
