internet explorer / html hack

Q: internet explorer / html hack

Is there any code or something I can put into a comment and make internet explorer 6 freeze up? or maybe make it really slow or shut the PC down? or is there a code that messes up the page viewed?
this isn't for hacking or causing damage, by the way.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You mean something like this? From your hard drive? Or are you trying to link to the web?

<IMG alt="sample picture" src="c:\sample.jpg" >

You may have to empty out your cache and refresh?
Have no ideas otherwise. However, there is a TSG Web Development Forum here and you would be more likely to get a better answer:

There is a bug that completely changes the tables I have set and it only happens in IE. Pics are attached that show what is supposed to happen (in Chrome and FF) and what happens in IE. Please Help me! I can provide code if needed, but I have narrowed down the problem to something with the <form> tag. The form tag is inside a table which is inside another table.

A:Internet Explorer HTML <form> tag bug

Nevermind, I fixed it. The problem was the <form>. I do not know why it did this but that was the tag that screwed everything up. My fix was to use <select> without using the <form>. It is working now!

A:HTML Code displays in Internet Explorer

Hi HTMLNewbie, and welcome to TSG.

Are you talking about a web site for which are managing and creating content (TSG has a separate Web Development forum)? It would help to give us the URL for it.

Are you saying that Internet Explorer is showing HTML code for any web site you visit (TSG has a separate Web & E-mail forum). The exact version of IE and Windows might help for starters.

I am trying to create a 2-column html table. I want to put a large image in a cell within the second column of the table, and "wrap" the image in <div> tags so I can limit the display width, and have scroll bars so the user can scroll the image to view the entire thing.

The sizing of the <div> works correctly but, the table is always the width of the ENTIRE image...nothing I do seems to limit the width of the table. So, even though the <div> is the correct width, and has the scroll bars, the table is the width of the underlying image.

I will include some sample text to demonstrate the problem. Just choose a large image that you might have on your machine, and insert it's path into the <img> tag. The example image I am using is 1600X1200.

PS: in this example I am using "min-width" and "max-width", but the problem is the same if I simply use "width".

This code works properly in Firefox. Is there anything I can do to get the desired behavior in IE or, are table widths determined by the contents of the table in IE, regardless of the properties that are defined?

Thanks, in advance, for any advice you can give.

A:html tables in Internet Explorer [Moved to design]

Hi
My web programming skills aren't really good enough to help you but i have a few suggestions.

Don't use tables and position everything using css
Its actually very easy to learn i used a tutorial at the website html-dog (google for it) which was very helpful.
Tables should only really be used for tabular data and are not a way to lay out websites.

I think it will look awful if you have to scroll to see the rest of the picture in the way that you describe, if you have to put it in a table why not put a thumbnail in which when clicked links to the full size version of the picture?

Internet Explorer (listed as Q831167 under "Add/Remove Programs") will not run. [I'm using Mozilla & Netscape without a problem.]

And I can't read any Outlook emails in html.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled as many Microsoft products as possible - Office, Internet Explorer - to no avail.

I have Norton Internet Security 2004, loaded yesterday - but I can't use it properly, I suppose b/c of the html issue. And help menus for any program are unreadable.

I've run Spybot 1.3 and Adaware, both with newest updates.
I have the newest anti-virus definitions for Norton loaded - but can't use Norton, so not sure if it helps any. I've eliminated most of the start-up files to clear up any potential issues.

Not sure what to do - and I've spent HOURS!!!!!!

I would appreciate any advice!!

This isn't Internet Explorer. It's only a patch. If this is what you uninstalled, you didn't uninstall IE. You only removed a patch. In any case, you can't really uninstall IE. You can roll back to a previous version (except on XP), but you can't remove it completely unless you use some sort of non-MS third-party utility.

Hi,
We have a COM dll which when embedded in html file and ran on Internet Explorer (Windows 7) was working fine. We were able to make call to the APIs exposed by the COM dll.

But recently, we installed the windows updates namely
KB3074886 and
KB3065822.

After this, whenever we are accessing the API's of this COM dll, we are getting an error "SCRIPT438: Object doesn't support this property or method: ".  So we tried uninstalling the above two updates and saw that we were
able to access the APIs of the COM dll perfectly fine. Only when these updates are installed we are facing the above said error.
Can someone assist us in what may be going wrong here. It will be very helpful for us as it is important for us to run with this updates installed in our system.

Thanks in Advance,
Satya.

I have a simple HTML page with a textarea field on it. When I paste data (spaces + hyphens) of length around 10000 chars to this textarea field, the browser hangs for few minutes.

This issue is not seen for other normal data, only specific to above combination (around 5000 blank spaces followed by around 5000 hyphen/minus symbol)

For above action, I analysed through developer tool profiler and observed that the maximum time being take by browser is to render content/layout of textarea. I believe some re-flow/repaint is happening in this particular case.

Is this a known issue with IE11? Please advice!
(I had posted this query on Microsoft communities and they re-directed me to TechNet forum. Hope I will get answer to my query)

so i realllllllly hate seeing this chunk of garbage over my drive tree every time i open explorer, as i won't ever use the things and want them gone.

so, anyone have any tips on killing them _without_ turning off the 'navigation pane'?

A:wtb hack for favorites/libraries in explorer

Hello Kenabi, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sorry, but you cannot remove them without turning off the Navigation Pane as well, but you can unexpand them to save space though by clicking on the arrow to the left of them.

You might change your mind though about Libraries once you get use to them. Libraries allow you to place a collection of folder shortcuts in a group that make accessing those folders and their contents easier. For example, if you have music files stored in different folders at different locations (ex: drives), then you can include these folders in a library to have them all available from one location instead.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

hello all,

I have recieved from yahoo to my gmail account, a 'work from home' ( newslocal15 ) spam email that was sent by a biz partner's yahoo account. Unfortunately, it looked just like an email that this person would send concerning various news and such ( otherwise I would have never clicked the link ). So I saw the page, and deemed it immediately to be spam. I closed the page. However, soon after, one of my secondary accounts ( this one is yahoo ) started sending out the same spam mail.

My initial question is: does anyone here have previous experience with this? Is it a hack on the yahoo servers, a hack on my account, or is it from a downloaded virus?

I have good AV. I ran a scan and found nothing. However, i realize that this isnt 100%. I have already changed my account passwords at yahoo, and I dont allow my PC to save passwords.

I have not added any logs at this point, because I dont want to waste anyones time if the TSG experts already know it is not an issue with my PC. However, I will of course add a log here if it is needed. I have researched it for many hours and so far no one seems to agree, so I came here since my past experience is that the people who help on these forums are top notch.

Thanks in advance for any available help in this matter!

I use my laptop in the room where the internet connection is so don't need wifi right now.

I'm trying to work out how to do this without using the router at all. I have an Asus NT-66-u wifi router and a TP-Link TD8817 modem. Can I just plug the ethernet cable into the phone socket? Or disconnect the Asus router and plug the ethernet cable directly into the TP-Link Modem. And how secure is the modem?

I don't really have time to be doing all this right now so just decided to use ethernet for a while and not sure which is the best way to do it. Usually I've just plugged the ethernet into the Asus router, but if that's turned off, presumably that won't work. Also it's so long since I set the modem up I have no idea how I did it or what any passwords are! The Asus seemed to take over.

Anyway - I'm guessing just plugging the ethernet into the phone socket won't be enough, so will try turning off wifi and Asus router and plugging into modem.

A:Securing internet connection after possible hack

If you just use a modem your PC is live on the net so anyone can hack it a router used nat so you then get a local IP not a internet IP local can't be accessed from the net the net IP becomes the router not your PC. How do you think you were hacked?

First of all I'd like to say hi to everyone. Hope I've come to the right place to get my problem (or problems) fixed.About 2 months ago I started to notice that when using google search and opening the search results I would get re-directed to random sites. I'd press back and try clicking the link again only to be re-directed to yet another site. This happens 3 or 4 times in a row before I can access the real search result and it occurs quite often. Every time a redirect happens I see the same little logo in the firefox tabs. Looks like a little blue ribbon, but I'm not sure.In addition to this, my system task-bar will sometimes suddenly change to a different style, (the bland and unshaded gray kind you see in safemode or on an older operating system, for example I have a green "start" menu button and that turns into a gray rectangle). It then turns back to normal after 5-10 seconds. When this happens my desktop icons (sometimes?) disappear and then re-appear again.I did a virus scan today using CA antivirus. And noticed multiple viruses which weren't there a few days ago, can't recall the names.Moments later something completely far-fetched happened which is why I decided to finally post my problems here. I left my computer temporarily, when I came back the screen was black and nothing responded to my keyboard or mouse commands. I pressed ctrl+alt+delete and pressed the power button on my laptop, and my task bar appeared. What I saw there wa... Read more

Hi,

On Windows SP2, I think since the SP2 update, .html files are not opened (if clicked) by Explorer, but by Word. If I try Open with ..., Explorer is not even listed among the programs available. If I browse and select Explorer from its location and click open, nothing happens.

The only way to open .html files is to start up Explorer first, and then with browse select the file to open.

This is the case with *all* html files, old or new, even saved with Explorer.

.vrml files are associated with Explorer OK, in their case the icon is shown and they open automatically with Explorer.

Any idea how to get .html files associated with Explorer?
Or cure Explorer?

Thanks,

Zsofi

Hi Fellows,

I've had this problem in several installs of W7 x64, including this current fresh one. It usually happens about a month after a fresh install.

Here are some facts about the problem:

1. The only icons affected are .mht, .htm., & .html.
2. File extensions are fine - no issues.
3. .mht = Internet Explorer ... both htm & html are associated with Firefox.
4. In Firefox, when using "Save Page As", in the Explorer window that opens, the icons are always there! This has been true in each install of W7, though after a year or two they will sometimes not appear in this case as well. Then, they'll suddenly reappear.
5. Rebuilding the icon cache didn't fix it.
6. Changing the file association temporarily didn't work. When changing htm & html to IE, the icon appears. But changing mht to Firefox doesn't cause an icon to appear, not does the correct IE icon appear when I change the association back to IE. Changing htm & html back to Firefox doesn't work, either.
7. No custom icons, file extensions, etc. are involved.
8. Other icons in the same Explorer window .. DO appear, without fail.

Would appreciate any help for this annoying problem. Below is a screenshot.

Thanks is advance.

Hey all,

I was on the internet about 2 days ago when I got the trojan-spy.html.smitfraud.c virus that is associated with the AntivirusGold infection. I already looked over many places on the web, and followed their advice on fixes. I got rid of the blue screen in the back telling me that an error has occured. I already tried cleaning out as much as possible by myself, but there is still a problem. Whenever I start up my computer, and let it load, a message would appear telling me "explorer has performed an illegal operation and will be closed. If I close that window, another one pops up. If i DON"T close that window, the same message appears again, regardless. It continues to reappear at 2 second intervals until what seems like forever. When the message is there, I cannot click anything on my taskbar or on the start button, and I can't click any of the icons on my desktop. So far, i've been running almost everything in safe mode using the "new task" option in windows task manager. Right now, I need to get explorer.exe working again. I hope somebody can help me.

Thanks in Advance

Below is a copy of my HiJackThis log. I hope somebody can help me out. By the way, even though it says explorer.exe is running, it's not working properly (as I mentioned above). This is a log run in "safe mode with networking". Please tell me if you want me to run one in normal mode. Thanks

Hi, i am new at this, so bear with me lol

We have just moved our XP computer into the living room, and connected it to a 58kb dial-up connection. We installed AVG 8 and everything was running fine

Now we've installed Windows Live OneCare Family safety on the machine so we can monitor my borther and sisters internet usage.

Now, the computer runs extremely slowely, Windows Explorer continually crashes, meaning we have great difficulty opening My Documents, and My Computer or anything that requires Explorer to open

As well as this, now the internet is majorly slow... even for bloomin dial-up, we used to get at least 9kbps, but now its shot down to between 2.5 and 1.5 kbps

AVG is now continuously scanning... even outside of scheduled scans, and constantly wants to update :S

And finally, i have now noticed that small files i dont use very frequently have begun to dissapear from the system!!! music files, images, word docs etc.

We have tried defragging it, scandisk, using AdAware SE Personal 2005, AVG Scans, and they all come up with negligeable results.

As well as this, now the pc wont install files for Trend Micro Online scans to run... so we cant even work it out that way :S

I have a suspicion this could be something to do with OneCare, or Multiple Viruses in the system that have somehow hidden themselves from AVG

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!
