I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have recently installed Redhat Enterprise V.3 as guest on Windows XP host using vmware.

After adding the necessary lines in the 2 ifcfg-eth0 files, the device eth0 is finding the IP correctly at boot time (or by usinf ifup eth0) and I can use folder sharing between the host and the gust. However I still can't connet to the Interent from the guest.

My windows host internet conection is working fine.
I had it working for a short peiod of time on the guest. (I was using VM - settings - customized - eth bridged-default)

Has anyone seen this before?

I don't need help, I just wanted to post my solution.
I recently setup the latest version of Vmware player on Ubuntu 13.04 and found myself unable to download the tools for it. error try again later or something along those lines. I searched about online for answers but google only presented 1 relevant topic and it didn't have a solution. Anyways I've discovered how to get around this, it's quite obvious really, I feel dumb for taking so long to figure it out. Lauch VMware player as root, then the tools will download successfully. Hopefully this will save someone a world of heart-ache.

Using VMWare Player 12

Problem host machine is a Desktop server AMD 2x 2380 (2.5G quad core) Opteron 16G RAM 64 bit 320g SSD Windows 10 with virtualization enabled.

Compared to a notebook AMD Phenom II (2.9 G dual core) 6G RAM 64 bit Windows 10 320g HD with virtualization enabled.

My test program is DOS CAD which I run in a window on XP. I have made a test program so that my testing is exactly the same. The program loads a fair sized drawing, sizes it to fit the screen then hides hidden lines at the end of which it appends a log file as to date stop and start times. I know it is old but I have 100s of hours of programming involved in this program, which I wouldn?t live long enough to replace.

The guest is XP 800G RAM 40G HD and 1 core.

The problem machine is the Desktop I?ve been knocking my head on the for the last 3 months now and am about ready to go back to 2 computers (Linux and XP). Running the test program it will finish in less the 2 minutes on the notebook (Phenom II) running in a VMWare 12 Virtual machine, compared to more than 10 minutes on the desktop.

The desktop has no problem running the program directly, using a bootable DOS thumb drive it can boot directly to DOS where it takes much less than 2 minutes to hide the lines and uses the entire screen. Which is another item which will be addressed if I can get the speed up.

Hi, I am running VMWare Player on an i5 -x64 laptop running win8.0 and want to buy win 7 Home to be the Guest OS for the Player.

Do I need to get the x64 or the x86 version of win7? Either x64/x86 will be fine for my needs once installed and running in the Player.

I posted this on the VMWare forums but have been totally ignored. {sigh}

In Win8.1 Pro as host, with vmware player 6.02, Ubuntu 12 or 14, server or desktop guest:

Network adapter set to Bridge. The guest OS installs just fine. Guest gets an IPv4 address from DHCP server on the same subnet as the host. Guest can connect to the Internet for downloads. Host connects to the Internet. Yet a ping from host to guest or guest to host results in destination unreachable. Occurs even if NIS "smart firewall" is turned off.

I've used essentially the same setup with a Win7 host with no issues. Any clues why the two won't talk to one another?

[fwiw, I bounced off Hyper-V when I saw how sluggish it was compared to vmware player. Hope it's not the better solution!]

A:Cannot ping Ubunto guest in vmware player

Hi there

1) Check your router -- some routers block Ping
2) Check firewall on LINUX guest -- probably best while testing to turn it off -- people forget that default Linux installs - especially for the common distros (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Mint, OPENSUSE) have the Linux firewall enabled. - I'll bet a lot of people are surprised that Linux even HAS a built in firewall !!!

3) Does the ping work when you Ping via hostname or are you pinging via IP address. I've had an instance where pinging by Hostname gives the WRONG IP address -- re-boot simply fixed that.

4) IPV6 might be in the mix somewhere but this isn't normally a problem on internal LANS - in any case Host name resolution should fix this.

(BTW for Linux sharing SAMBA is excellent -- there's a good GUI tool for Ubuntu type distros (debian based). I think it's called system-config-samba. Saves all the messing about with configuration files althougk you WILL need to add users via sudo -a usename for the users you want for your shares).

How do I get VM Player to boot from either

the bootable guest OS setup cd
the bootable guest os ISO
instead of from a network boot?

When I start the newly-created Virtual Machine, the process proceeds directly to network boot (it doesn't even wait for F12).

When I figured out how to slow down the boot process, I used bios setup to give the CD top priority and the network boot the lowest priority. Next I activated to boot menu, and always chose CD-ROM.

I tried setting devices as follows:

CD IDE1 both checked on and capture ISO
Ethernet in all possible combinations of connected/not connected and bridged, NAT, and host-only
Current view is Console (appliance is greyed out)
Network service boot will not work in my environment and is useless for me. When it fails - as it always will - it tells me "Operating System Not Found".

What is going on? Am I missing the secret handshake or holy incantation?

I apologize if there is a separate thread for Hyper-V running on Windows 8.1 vs this Server thread.  Couldn't find one specific to Hyper-V on Windows 8.1.
We have had for months now 3 Windows 8.1 workstations running Hyper-V with Windows 7 guest OS's. These guest were used to support clients that required a rather tight VPN connection. Suddenly last week all 3 machines has the same issue.
The guest no longer have internet connectivity.  One workstation has Broadcom NIC other 2 have Intel.  It's as if some Windows patch did something that caused the Virtual Switch to stop working.
Have blown away the VM's, dropped the Virtual Switch.  Ran updates.  Recreated the Virtual Switch and built new VM.  Still same condition.
The host to continues to connect to network and internet without issue.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A:Windows 8.1 Hyper-V host, Windows 7 guest lost network connectivity.

There is a Win8 forum here (for future ref)
Is this in a corporate environment?  If so, were any changes made to the switches?  I've seen environments where the switch is locked down to only allow one MAC/IP per port, which knocks off any VMs.
Are you getting any DHCP information? Can you assign a static IP and get connectivity?

Goal: To have host machine (win7) to use wired interface (lan1) ( as default, while vm (winxp) uses wireless interface (wireless1) ( as default. Each interface is a seperate network and seperate isp.

Using Vmware player 3.1.3

I have set the VM to bridged mode, and bridged that virtual adapter to the wireless interface with vmnetcfg. VM is now able to get out on the internet, ipchicken shows its going out on the wireless isp.

On the host machine, I am also going out on the wireless interface.
I changed metric on wired (lan1) to 1 for gateway AND interface
changed metric on wireless (wireless1) to 100 for interface (no gateway option)

Now, the host machine goes out on the lan1 gateway, great!
Also changed adapter priority, set lan1 above wireless1

Now, when going back to the VM, it is not able to get out on the internet.

If I remove metric for gateway on lan1, I will default back to wireless on the host, Even with the
priority showing lan1 before wireless1..

I guess what im asking windows to do is route all traffic from host through lan1, and route all traffic from vm through wireless1, concurrently.

Hi there

Windows 10 build 9879 with the latest updates running as a VM on Windows 8.1 host using VMware workstation 11 or vmplayer 7 won't attach USB devices - only USB devices connected at power on seem to be recognised.

I upgraded a W8.1 system to W10 but I'll try later with a brand new install --- I don't expect any change though.

I've also tried both WITH and WITHOUT the 3D / hardware acceleration checkbox enabled --no difference.

Windows 8.1 runs fine as a VM on W7 host if you are coming from W7. Same problem though if you run W10 from a W7 host.

A:Windows 10 on Windows 8.1 Host and Vmware - USB problem

Don't you think a VMware forum would be more appropriate? It is a problem with their software.

A hypervisor normally tries to grab your device when it is introduced (from Windows host in your case, OSX in mine) and then offer it to the guest (10 in both cases). USB2 works for me but not USB3. In my case I use virtualbox and it doesn't support USB3. I know this because I asked the developers. This is a problem with the VM software (one end or the other) not Windows. Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 installed on real hardware all recognise USB 2 and 3. And USB 1 works on Windows XP for all I know if such devices still exist.

Hardware acceleration has nothing to do with connecting USB devices BTW. It is for graphics and normally (ime) makes things worse.

I seem on the df -h command get a /tmp file around 4GB which is 95% allocated. This goes down to 0% when the vm is powered off.

I can't seem to find any way to increase the size of this file or configure it in any way -- is this just VMware using disk space or will my Guest eventually fail because lack of disk space. There's actually plenty of space on the HDD itself. !!

Help! I've set up a null modem serial cable connecting my old dinosaur Windows 98 PC to my new XP laptop. I set up the Direct Cable Connection on both PCs and set up the 98 PC as host and the XP laptop as guest. The guest laptop shows that it is connected to the 98 PC (in network connections) and the 98 host PC shows an active connection with the guest. I've also set the host PC to allow sharing and have set the "C" drive to be shared with full rights. However, when I check "network places" on the guest XP laptop, nothing appears at all. Is there something I'm missing? I'm not exactly computer illiterate but have no experience setting up networks or simple connections. I appreciate any help someone can give me! Thanks.

A:Direct Cable Connection -- Windows 98 (host) to Win XP (guest)

Just go buy a Crossover (RJ-45 or Network) cable, usually orange, and direct connect the two with that. Should be alot easier, just make sure both have NetBEUI installed, and you should be good.

e1k62x64.sys is a driver for your Intel 82577LM Gigabit NIC
Please do this:
- download a fresh copy of the network drivers from http://downloadcenter.intel.com
- uninstall the current network drivers
- install the freshly downloaded network drivers and monitor for further BSOD's

If that doesn't fix it, then please post this info: http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ta-452654.html

hi every one.

what should I do?

A:Windows 7 host cannot startup after Guest Additions install

Hi Saeidmscs

You have no Restore Points at all? Not even the ones that Window's makes by itself? are you sure?

Try booting into Safe Mode to check:
1) Start your PC and spam F5 until a screen asking you to select your OS appears,
2) Press F8
3) Select "Safe Mode"
4) In the Start Menu type System Restore
5) Click "Restore your Computer to an earlier point in time

Windows makes Restore Points for itself automatically every few days or when it installs updates, so unless you have Restore turned off, then its unlikely you have NO restore points. Post back with your findings

Hi all,
I am running RHEL4 as Guest OS in Dell studio 1555 laptop using VMWare Work Station with Windows XP SP3 as host OS in my Dell Studio 1555 model. But I am not able to set the display properly in RHEL4 which can perfectly fit to the laptop screen so that I can get rid of the troublesome job of scrolling to view the full page. I have at present chosen These options.
Monitor Type: LCD panel 1600 X 1200
Video Card: VESA driver (generic)
Resolution: 1600 X 1200
Color Depth: Millions of Colors

I tried various other options. But nothing else seems to be suitable. Do I have to install some dedicated driver to get the resolution option of 1600 X 900 which is the Display resolution of my Host OS (Windows XP). Dell Studio Laptops use ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 Display Adapters for 1555 model.

Can you please suggest me which option should I choose in RHEl 4 to get the 1600 X 900 resolution option and get rid of this problem?

I really only plan to use it for testing tweaks and mods that might be risky for my proper Windows 8 install so it will hardly be used.

I can use the slmgr.vbs ?rearm command to give me an extra 90 days, I'm just wondering what will happen when I run out of time, will the VM refuse to boot or can it be continued to be used.

Is it possible to use a Windows XP .ISO file with the free VMware player? I know how to use VMware player to boot a bootable ISO, and it works with others (like BackTrack2). Anyone know how I can do this successfully with just a virtual CD image (not a physical CD) and without the need to install anything extra? Much appreciation.

Hi all
to those who don't want to shell out dollars for a purchase or upgrade of vmware workstation version 8 the FREE latest version of vmware PLAYER (version 4) works just fine.

Note however that while you CAN create vm's you don't get the full features of the paid for work station product such as "Cloning", "snapshots", Teams etc etc.

For testing current version of W8 this might not be a drawback to a lot of people so if you like using vm's under vmware the latest version of vmware player is just fine too --- did another install just recently of W8 so I have one under Esxi and another as a guest on W7 x-64.

I'm running an updated Windows 8 CDP under VMWare Player. Navigating around 8 is not as snappy as I would have hoped, and the graphics performance is horrible. Is this because I'm running as a virtual machine?

A:Windows 8 under VMWare Player : better graphics performance possible?

As you propapbly know, every virtual machine creates virtual parts for the computer, and those parts are just emulating real ones. since it is impossible to emulate a good graphics card. So don't atleast wait staring at the clock for a fix for the issue.

A few years ago we bought a new car and I purchased a computer-based shop manual for the car from eBay. I installed it on two of my Windows 7 computers;a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version. Both of the installations went fine and the program runs fine on both of them.
The program runs in an environment called VMware Player, rather than just running in Windows 7 directly. I know very little about virtual machines, but I think that this one is running Windows XP as the OS in the window.
Yesterday, I decided to install the program on a computer that I built last year using an Asus B150 motherboard and an Intel Core i3-6100 processor. The installation went okay, but when I tried to launch the program in VMware Player, I get the BSOD with the following information:

 VMware Player.JPG   86.54KB
I have no idea what this is telling me. Can anyone point me to a solution to this problem?
Thanks in advance

A:Windows Crashed in VMware Player's Virtual Machine Window

If the program works fine on other systems you have...first thing I would do is uninstall it and reinstall, to see if the error was just a quirk of Windows.
If I still had a problem with said program...I would do the following.
1.  Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:  List last 10 Event Viewer log  List Installed Programs  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
2.  Please download and install Speccy to provide us with information about your computer.  Clicking on this link will automatically initiate the download.

When Speccy opens you will see a screen similar to the one below.

Click on File which is outlined in red in the screen above, and then click on Publish Snapshot.
The following screen will appear, click on Yes.

The following screen will appear, click on Copy to Clipboard.

In your next post right click inside the Reply to Topic box, then click on Paste.  This will load a link to the Speccy log.

Can anybody tell me what on earth is going on here? I've got a VMWare guest (Linux Mint 17.2 KDE, 64 bit, running on VMWare Workstation 11) with Samba shares. Access from the Host as well as other devices in the LAN always worked flawlessly. But all of a sudden it has stopped working. The connection from the host to the guest is unstable at best but mostly not possible at all. I cannot even ping the guest. But what's strange is the fact that I can access the shares from my phone and I can also ping the guest from my phone. But it's also not possible to ping the host from the guest, even if I disable the hosts firewall. What can possibly be the reason for this?

Here is some info about the network:

- Router IP: (FritzBox 7490)
- Host IP:
- Guest IP: (bridged, gets the IP from the router)

P.S. It's no homegroup, it's an "ordinary" Windows network.

Bottom screen Windows XP Sp3 - menu visible on Host desktoip - applications can run on Host desktop - That's the way it is supposed to work.

Hi there

Most VM programs allow you to boot from an ISO image -- useful when installing the Guest OS for the first time.

Since now DVD's are going the way of the DODO isn't about time these Virtual Machine software manufacturers such as VMWARE and ORACLE(VBOX) to allow booting from a USB stick for installing the Guest OS. Would need a change in the Virtual BIOS but shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

Windows itself is now going to be distributed on a USB stick.

I can see the ridiculous situation of people having to CREATE an ISO from a USB drive / stick !!!! -- Turn round for the book !!.

A:VMWARE / VBOX etc - Boot VM from USB drive to install GUEST OS

I've been playing with VirtualBox 5, and trying to make Windows think that a VHD file containing a Recovery Drive is a USB file.

The trick seems to *not* use the new option to add a USB controller, but instead to add my VHD as an SATA device, and select the Checkbox that says Hot-pluggable.

I'm not sure it's gonna work, but I think that's more an issue with Recovery Drive than Virtualbox.

What I haven't figured out is how to let Windows 'see' a physical USB that's plugged into the host machine, and boot from that.

Would really appreciate some assistance with this, updates have been failing for some time on a windows 7 (Home Premium x64) VM with the code 8007370B, I have tried everything I (and Dr Google) can think of but to no avail. Cannot get it to play along.

Host is a VM so I can revert back to a snapshot if any attempted fixes fail, so at this stage am happy to give anything a go.

All suggestions gratefully received!

Hi guys

Can you please have a look into the attachments and see if you can see any issues to resolve this major problem

If I log into DRSM I don't get the issue so you think there is a problem with AD however, I have checked the integrity and all looks ok
I have also moved the logs and the database

I disable all services other then M$ and it will boot again, restart the machine several times and still can't get it BSOD

Any help would be much appreciated

I have a 3-monitor desktop setup running Windows 8.1 (as a host OS.) I use one monitor exclusively to run VMWare Workstation 10. When VMWare first loads up at host PC boot I click "Enter full screen mode" button, which expands it to the size of that monitor. I then usually load several guest OS's into it.

My host OS is set up to show a password protected screensaver after 5 minutes and then turn off the screen after 20 minutes of inactivity.

So what I've been noticing (and yes, this is repeatable) is that sometimes when I wake the screen & log in to my host computer in the morning, most of the guest VMs don't seem to respond and show just a back screen. (Note that it doesn't happen all the time and is somewhat sporadic.) Here's a quick animated GIF screengrab to show what happens afterwards:

As you can see, only the first VM seems to respond to clicks, the rest appear dead. Note that if I try to send Ctrl+Alt+Del keyboard sequence to any of those "hung up" guest VMs nothing happens. The only way to recover from this bug is to force-quit the VMWare Workstation itself, or reboot the host PC, which are both analogous to me flipping the power switch on all guest VMs (with data being lost in them) which is very annoying!

So I'm curious if anyone knows a way to recover from this bug w/o force-quitting the VMs?
PS. I obviously posted this question on VMWare forums, but to be honest, I don't have much faith in them. I tried it before and I never get re... Read more

A:VMWare Workstation hangs up guest VMs in full screen mode

I have noticed this behaviour in VMware 12 after creating a new Windows 7 VM and a Vista VM I put it into high performance mode disabled Hibernation, Sleep, Screensaver, Hard drive . I think all I really had to do was disable hibernation.

Not sure what OS you are running as a guest VM but here is the way to disable it in Windows 10

Here is how to do it in Windows 8

Good news about VMs again.

The latest VMware Workstation 9 brings a new UI and it's designed for Windows 8.

Read about it here:
VMware Announces VMware Workstation? 9

Also VMware Player 5 is available for download.

Looks like I posted this a bit fast, usually Jimbo beats me at VMware stuff. Sorry for this one.

D'oh. I have 2 licensed copies of VMWare Workstation at my office. One for me and 1 for a coworker. It's $119 to upgrade, or a free upgrade if you purchased after Aug 1st, 2012. I purchased on July 30, 2012. Sucks to be me
