Ram Memory running on low frequency. Why?

Q: Ram Memory running on low frequency. Why?

Hello all, i made a little update for my computer changing the motherboard, ram and videocard. The motherboard is Asrock G41M-VS3 R2.0 and the RAM is this Corsair Memory.

It is a ddr3 1333mhz ram memory and my motherboard is supporting 1333mhz ddr3 memory, but when i go in BIOS i see the RAM is running only at 400mhz. WHY it is running on so low frequency? I want at least 1066mhz.

How can i increase the frequency? and sorry for my medium quality english.

Preferred Solution: Ram Memory running on low frequency. Why?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You may have to manually adjust BIOS setting to the above specs. Does your CPU support DDR3 1333 MHz RAM?

I just have setup my new motherboard (ASUS A7N8X Deluxe) with Athelon XP 2100+. I set the external CPU frequency at 133Mhz with Multiplier 13X. Because I have 2x 256MB DDR400 (PC 3200) memory I set the memory frequency to 150%. But the output of the memory only shows 200Mhz. Did I setup anything wrong? Do I have to modify anything the maximize my use of DDR400 RAM? Also My memory test shows only 26000KB when I boot it up. Doesn't it have to show about 52000KB because I have two 256MB memory installed? Lost of questions, lots of answers please!!!

A:Memory Frequency

I am in the process of this to. I think it would be using a multiplier of times 2. I just set mine to 166 for 333ddr. gave me options of 133 for 266ddr and mine then 200 for 400ddr.

Hey All!,

I've always looked through overclockers.com but I've found TechSpot to be most resourceful for my needs. I love this place!

However, I've run into a basic newbie situation and it burns me I don't know the answer to this.

I have a Soyo P4-RC350 Motherboard. Which supports processors of 400/533/800 FSB Speeds.

I currently have a P4 2.25 GHz (533 FSB Speed).

The board supposedly allowed installation of PC2100, PC2700 and PC3200 NON-Dual (Single) Channel memory. However, per it's guide it states to use 266 or 333MHZ memory with my 533 FSB processor.

I wish to purchase 2 400MHz PC3200 DDR RAM chips. Although, I don't know if my board will allow that with my current processor.

I'd just go the PC2100 or PC2700 it states at 333MHz for this solution, but I've found the chip I wish to purchase (400MHz PC3200) to be cheaper.

Can I run the 400MHz PC3200 on my Soyo P4-RC350 Motherboard with the P4 2.25 GHz (533 FSB) Processor without worrying about anything getting messed up? Or do you all think it's a bad idea?

A:CPU FSB and Memory Frequency PLEASE HELP :)

You can run the 400mhz RAM at 333 with no problem. With the FSB at 533 the RAM should automatically run at 333 anyway. Ive found that there isnt any real performance difference between 400 and 333.

Ok, so basically im not looking for a specific answer. However im really confused.
Lets break it down:

My fsb is 800mhz (Divided by 4) ITS ACTUALLY 200mhz
My processor speed runs @ 3200mhz (16 is the multiplier) (Hence, 16x200 = 3200)
My memory (522mhz) runs @ 266Mhz (divided by 2) (555 / 2 = 266)

FSB = 200 MhzClick to expand...

Memory = 266 MhzClick to expand...

Hence = 4:5 RATIO Click to expand...

Now, i thought that the memory had to run AT or at LOWER speeds than the actual FSB which in my case is: memory= 266mhz and FSB= 200 mhz. I did some "research", and I read that this relationship of the memory being larger than the fsb was ok. It was called something like "unsynchronised".

So if I can run my memory at higher speeds (than the FSB) why cant i just buy an 800mhz memory and make it run at 400mhz? (I KNOW IT WOULDNT work, but why?) Is there like a... Read more

i just changed the memory in my 845GV-MLV mobo from two DDR 256 to two

Your mobo has a 533MHz FSB, so the correct speed is DDR266.

Stupid question perhaps:

Just built my first custom PC a week ago, running great. But the memory I bought (512Mb Kingston DDR pc2700) says 333Mhz on the pkg, however the default setting or whatever is 266mhz. Is it perfectly safe for me to up the memory frequency to 333mhz in the BIOS or am I confusing that with something else?

A:Memory frequency....

Congrats on your first pc build. Glad to hear everything's running fine.

The memory frequency and cpu frequency are 2 different frequencies.
The PC2700 memory is rated to run up to 333mhz (166mhz x2)
but the default frequency in the bios is 266mhz (133 x2) since the default FSB is 133MHz and your cpu/memory ratio is 1:1.

You most certainly should be able to run your memory at 333mhz as long as your motherboard bios has that option.

There are 2 ways for you to overclock your memory through your bios. The first and most common way is for you to increase your FSB to 166mhz w/ a cpu/memory ratio of 1:1.

There also might be an option in your bios that gives you a cpu/memory ratio of 3:4 or 4:5.

Before you start overclocking your cpu and memory, you might want to check out www.overclockers.com and do some research or ask a few questions. We will be most willing to help you get started.

First I would like to say Hi to everyone.
OK heres the problem when I go to my bios and highlight CPU I get this message on the right hand side of the screen in red
Caution: According to CPU external frequency setting, System memory can only operate at frequency higher than or equal to 333MHz,
Please make sure the Dram Maximum frequency is not less that 333MHz. OK it's not it is set at 333MHz
Then when I highlight the Memory frequency I get this message in red
Caution: Only support 1 Certified DDR 400 module on this product.
I'm not sure what the problem is but I'm using a 512MB stick of Corsair PC2700 333 memory.
I know it's not DDR 400.
I just want to know that my FSB is running at 333 MHz.
Also when I go to probe under memory speed it says unknown.
Is there any way to correct this problem?

btw here are my stats:

so now i have 2 X 1Gig of Ram

Now the problem is that My windows Doesnt load, it goes up till the welcome screen and then my system restarts on its own,
thinking that my new ram might be faulty i put the new ram alone and rebooted my PC, it works like a charm ..
so when i install both the RAm ,it doest boot.

then i changed Memory frequency on my BIOS setting, default was Auto, i changed it to DDR 333, it didnt work and then again i came down to DDR 266, now it works fine..

now i m a little confused, my RAM is DDR 400 , am i running my PC at a lower Speed.. ??

or is it something to do with the dual channel thingy?

What is the CPU/Memory Frequency Ratio?

when i overclock my CPU to 2.0 Ghz (stock was 1.8Ghz......i can only go to 2.0Ghz because I have a Willamette Pentium 4...they are crappy for O/Cing the CPU)

but when i overclock it...it sets my frequency from PC133 to PC148 automatically.

if i set the CPU/Mem ratio to Auto...i get stock (PC148 when the CPU is overclocked)

but if i set it to 1:1, i get less RAM Mhz (133 and under)

and if i set it to 3:4 i get MORE RAM Mhz (160+)

what is this?

Two 512GB Sticks of DDR 333mhz on an ASUS A7n8x-E Deluxe With an AMD 3200+ 400 Mhz FSB

No matter what I have tried in the bios I cannot get it to come up correct on boot I see that it says memory is at 166 Mhz, Dual Channel enabled.

When I try to change multipliers and things in the bios the closest I can get the frequency is 334 Mhz Which I would gladly take but the system becomes unstable and just restarts itself when ever it feels like it then.

ASUS in there infinite wisdom told me to turn the CMOS battery around for 30 seconds and then gave me settings to use. Well I did that and ended up with exactly the same number 166.

If anyone can figure this out please let me know.

Thank you in advance

A:Incorrect Memory Frequency

Forgive me if I am stating the obvious, but the MB is correct when it reports the FSB @ 166mhz. Dual channel means it is effectively doubled giving you 333FSB. The MB can only run its FSB at the speed of the slowest component - being the memory in your case. So it is correctly setting your FSB to 166.

If you got DDR3200 RAM (400mhz) your MB would set itself to 200mhz FSB. Dual channel making it 400mhz.

Make sense?

I have had a small performance issue with my computer for awhile and thought I would ask around to see if anybody knew of a true fix for it. Occasionally, my computer will run much slower than usual--dropping from about 30 fps to 10-15 fps in a game I play. When I check the Resource Monitor, I can see that the processor is only running at 50% maximum frequency.

The first thing I did was check my power options. On high performance, my computer is set to have a minimum frequency of 100%, so I can't figure out why this would happen. It seems the only way to get the frequency to jump back to 100% is to change the power options to balanced/power saver, then unplug the machine, then plug it back in and change the power options back to high performance. Once I do this, I have no further problems for the next 2-3 weeks.

While I've grown accustomed to the process, it gets tedious and doesn't always work the first time. Has anybody heard of this happening before? Am I doing something wrong? Is the hardware screwing up? Is the operating system not working right? Are there better forums to post this question in?

Attached is my DxDiag information, if that is any help. Please let me know if there is any other information you need.

A:A7N8X memory frequency problem

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

The fsb of your cpu is 166mhz(333mhz effective) this means that your ram should also be set to 166mhz(333mhz effective).

Because you have pc3200 ram which can run at 200mhz(400mhz effective) it can only run at 166mhz(333mhz effective) due to the speed of your cpu.

Set your bios to optimal default settings.

I just downloaded the program, CPU-Z, and it shows that I have a memory frequency of 141.6MHz and FSBDR ratio of 3:4. I was wondering if this is good or bad? I know the memory frequency may be high because I have overclocked the FSB in the BIOS.

CAS# Latency is 2.5 Clocks. RAS# to CAS# Delay is 3 Clocks. RAS# Precharge is 3 Clocks & Cycle Time (Tras) is 6 Clocks. Everything look good?

Btw, I have two sticks of Mushkin 512 PC2100 DDR.
I think its best to match the FSB and memory, so the ratio is same and is it the lower the better on all clocks? How do I change it? I believe that when I overclocked in the BIOS, there was an option that changed my overall multiplier (P4 = o/c to 2.12ghz = 100x20, mine is now 106x20) which I think changes the MEMORY and CPU Mhz...how do I make the ratios same?

Hi first time here, I have a question that is not satisfied with the internet and this support forum had some comments but not relevant to what I'm asking very specificially: For example take an ivy bridge Xeon socket 2011 E5-1620 v2 which is rated DDR3-1866 ECC but the overview says DDR3-1600 for HP Z420 regardless but I knew white paper is not written in stone. Has anyone have used DDR3-1866 (PC3-14900) with no problem in said workstation model and this processor?  Keep in mind these processors has direct connection with memory slots. I have also Z220 workstation with great satisfaction due to plenty of drive bays, 7 expansion cards slots vs my old Dell 780 with paltry HD bays and expansion slots.  Even considered Dell T3510 but also has severe few drive bays only 2x 3.5" and 1x 5.25" bays vs Z420's.  Hence this reason for question on Z420's PC3-14900 speed memory support.  T3510 does but I'm not interested in Dell. Cheers, 512kwizard

We may be able to find directions to reset your cmos to factory default.
(Or... you could google for a manual for your mb.)
On some mb's removing the battery is the best way.
On others, there are a couple of pins on which you can place a jumper.
Curious that you are able to boot to windows, but not get to Bios Setup.

It sounds like a bug might have been fixed.  I would expect it to slow down if you had just a battery (no A/C) or just A/C (no battery).  The charhing circuity won't "cook" the battery.  It will stop charging when it is fully charged.

I was at Goodwill yesterday and I found an ECS K7SEM v1.0 motherboard for $6. Assuming that it works, I wouldn't mind getting an AMD cpu and some RAM to get this going as a multi-purpose additional computer for my apartment.

The original intent of this board was for AMD processor running at either 100Mhz or 133Mhz FSB. The manual for the motherboard says that the RAM speed cannot be less than the processor FSB. For example: according to the manual, if the CPU has a FSB of 133Mhz, then PC133 RAM must be used and PC100 RAM cannot be used. If a CPU has a FSB of 100Mhz, then either PC100 or PC133 RAM can be used, but not PC66.

This manual was printed in 2001. However, in 2002/2003, a new BIOS upgrade was created for this board to allow support for Athalon XP 2100 and 2200 processors.

I was looking at an AMD XP processor at newegg and realized that the FSB is 266Mhz, according to the specs. I always get confused about FSB ratings. Are you supposed to divide this number by 2 with AMD chips? Like if the FSB is 266Mhz, should I use PC133 RAM to be compliant with the statement in the manual about using RAM that matches or exceeds the CPU FSB?

Another question I had is related to the new BIOS update that supports the newer processors. Would I need to use an old processor in order to update the BIOS before I can use the XP processor? Or will I be able to update to the XP supporting BIOS with the XP processor already in the socket?

If everything goes smooth... Read more

To start, I have Windows 7, on Sony Vaio laptop.

I have been working on the issues with the malware removal team, but now machine looks clean, I am still having issues.

When starting the computer and going to the task manager, I can watch explorer.exe start at about 18K memory usage and then grow constantly until it is running with almost all of the computer's physical memory after about seven min. I cannot get the context menu to show up after a few min by right clicking on anything.

I had been experiencing "freezing" while playing Eden Eternal (an online role playing game) before that, which made me consider malware and seek help here at BleepingComputer. The freezing has ended, last time I played on that machine at least, but now there seems to be some issue with the explorer.exe taking all of the memory. I haven't been using the machine since I don't trust that there's not something running in the background that shouldn't be.

In resource monitor there were "connections" that had "-" for both the name and the PID, but I don't know if that was the malware of if that's normal somehow?

Issue with explorer.exe seems to be limited to only one user account, and not the other one. That is to say that if I log on one of the other accounts explorer.exe behaves normally, as far as memory usage.

Then you can try removing all the junk files on it using CCleaner or BleachBit or something similar. If that doesn't help, I would recommend dual booting this PC with Ubuntu 14.04. I actually published a tutorial on doing that here:
You could then use that as your primary OS.

First let me say, I rarely leave my 8.1 system running all night as I generally switch off before bed.

On the FEW occasions I leave the system running all night I always get the "Your computer is low on memory" warning.

For instance, yesterday my software RAID mirror was "Re-synchronizing" and I wanted it to complete syncing so I left it running. NOTHING was running except Disk Manager. I closed down everything else. No browser, no Skype, no directory utility, no paint, no uTorrent....

Sure enough when I woke up this morning there it was....

A few days ago I wanted a couple of torrents to keep downloading so I kept the desktop running. Again NOTHING else was running and in the morning there it was....

I have 16Gb of memory and my pagefile.sys is 42Gb. My OS disc is a 250Gb SSD. I have set my system to hibernate after 5 hours idle. I have set the screen/display to sleep after 30 minutes.

The system isn't asleep when I wake as moving the mouse immediately brings the display back on line. Checking Task Manager shows NO memory hogs.

What I suspect is (please feel free to confirm or deny this suspicion), after 5 hours the hibernation process denies access to memory requests or something?

The strange thing is millions of people on 8.1 must leave their systems running all night but I have seen no mention of this behaviour.

Comments anyone?

A:Running out of memory when running overnight.

My daughter turned off Areo trying to help my computer out because I guess the video card isn't the best.
I have been getting errors like this and I am told my motherboard cannot handle more than 4 Gb of memory.
Here are the details of the error that show in event viewer:
- The Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention.
Scenario    :    Video memory resources are over-utilized and there is thrashing happening as a result. Reducing number of running programs and open windows may help resolve this condition.
- The Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention.
Scenario    :    The Desktop Window Manager responsiveness has degraded.
I seem to have been getting errors since July 21st.  I think I bought the computer early in the same month. My daughter thinks the cause is either Incredimail or Firefox. We are not sure..
Also I get errors in Incredimail which I absolutely love and won't switch to anything else. I am a grandmother and I like the animations and pretty pictures.

Today I got this popup saying something about my memory on my E drive being low. I checked it and it's maximum capacity is 45.1 GB and it says that all but 451 MB has been used. But how? All my programs installed listed in Add/Remove Programs only add up to approx. 4 GB. My songs folder is probably another 6 GB and my videos folder is probably the same. Also, my C drive has 63.4 GB and has 52 GB left. So basically I have 2 problems, why is my E drive so full and is there anyway possible to take some GB off C drive and transfer it to E?

I have a pretty powerful machine, yet windows7 tells me that it's low on memory even when explorer isn't running. Task manager says 3.51 out of 4gb in use, and the largest process is ie9 (52,668k) and dwm (14,660k) for all users. A reboot clears this, but it happens again. What's wrong?!

In the meantime, I'll be in Ubuntu 10.10

A:Running out of memory!

Are you sure? If Windows is low on memory, it will first try to increase your page memory. Has it done this? What is your specific error message?

I think that my computer is having memory problems, because I've gotten two alerts lately about....my computer is increasing the page indexing or something like that. I have absolutely no idea, and I don't even know what information anyone will need to help me figure this out.

I use XP, and I know that when I first ordered my computer from Dell, I had them add extra memory (RAM?), but.....I really have no idea what that means.

I do know that I have ALOT of big image files on my computer and that I use Photoshop Elements almost daily, but I don't do any gaming and I don't think that I've ever downloaded a song.

I have noticed that my computer has been getting progressively slower over the past few months though, and even though I've done the whole malware check and the whole defrag thing....it's still oddly slowish (like it takes forever for my browser to open....it lags and sits there and lags some more, but it thankfully will eventually open). Do I need to buy more memory, and if so....how does a person do that?

I'm really quite lost with this entire subject, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

A few days ago, I get this little Windows pop-up on my taskbar saying that my computer is unprotected and has been infected with a trojan (couldn't remember if it said which one exactly but I believe it said Alureon?). Afterward, my computer has been running very slow and the CPU/Memory widget I have pinned on my desktop shows they are pretty much maxed out, all the time, even while not having Internet Explorer or programs open (none that I have knowingly opened myself, anyway). I went out and bought McAfee Anti-Virus 2013 yesterday hoping this would resolve the problem. It did find 10 trojans and removed/quarantined them, but nothing has changed as far as system performance goes; everything still runs slowly, and opening even the smallest of programs like a calculator takes at least a few seconds.

I apologize if this thread is in the wrong forum and if I can be more descript, but I am more than willing to answer any questions or take screenshots if needed. Thanks so much for anyone's help concerning this matter!

P.S. - My computer isn't a beast by any means (Toshiba Satellite C655 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 2 GBs RAM, Intel Celeron 2.2 GHz - was an Xmas gift), so I don't expect some sort of vast improvement but it used to run MUCH smoother and quicker and I don't want to see it die on me!

Ok I am very confused here, and think I may potentially have a virus or some other malware, but lets see if we can start from the beginning. I have been having issues with extremely slow performance: takes a minute sometimes just to open a folder or a window in chrome, it can take longer than that to select/play/change volume in itunes but I always thought that was because my music is stored on an external drive.

I noticed that my memory usage in task manager was over 70% when I wasn't even using the computer so I tried shutting off some anti virus stuff and other software but saw no change. I tried turning everything off from startup (through MSconfig) and it made no difference?! So if it's not some program then I am lost as to why so much RAM is in constant use.

First some basic info:

Intel dual core @ 2.4
1 gb mem
64bit windows 7

Heres a screenshot: currently open are two tabs on Chrome, resource manager and task manager

A:Over 70% physical memory in use with nothing running?!

I see multiple instances of Chrome running in that list, do you have multiple Chrome windows open, each using it's own thread?

Why does the Business Contact Manager fail? Please tell me this is not a malware problem?
I am trying to use Outlook 2007 Professional with Business Contact Manager.
I have two small .pst files that I use in Outlook. One is 240 MB and the other is 1,400 MB. Before I add a Business Contact Manager database the two .pst files work fine together. (And I have had a .pst file in the past that was 1,900 MB and worked fine).
And if I remove either of the .pst files and then add an empty BCM database everything seems to work OK. However, if I have both .pst files active and then try to add a new (empty) BCM database, I get the following message when Outlook attempts to start: "Cannot start processing services. There is not enough free memory to run this program. Quit one or more programs and then try again. And there are no programs other than Outlook running. This machine is running XP with SP3 and has 4 GB of Ram which should be waaaaaaay more than enough to handle this load. What is wrong? I am totally stumped at this point and am not sure what to even try next.

Hi there. I'm geting this error on Windows 7 SP1 64bit with 4GB RAM

When I play Starcraft 2 my memory usage goes to 3.2GB ram I get this warning and at 3.4GB SC2 autocloses. I still have plenty of free ram, what's going on? I have heard that there is 75% limit set in W7 to show those warnings, but why it closes my game at 3.4/4GB? I got no page file cause when I play SC2 and it starts paging my game lags like hell and I cannot play.

I have tried to disable the warning, but it doesn't solve the crash issue. I've also tried to make a pagefile with a RAMdisk program to use my 600MB memory left but that didn't work either.

First I thought it may be because SC2 is 32bit and it's adressed memory is limited, but then I found out it's W7 that closes programs at 75% of usage, so now I'm puzzled what's the problem.

I tried to open IE 64bit and spam many tabs to reach 3.4GB ram, it didn't close I was able to go to 3.91GB/4GB so I guess it's some strange 32bit applications problem? I found this: NTCore's Homepage but it doesn't seems to work for me.

Do you have any ideas?

A:Your Computer Is Running Low on Memory 3.2/4GB RAM used

It is because you have no paging file. Set your paging file to amount of RAM installed X's 1.5.

Windows always use paging file even if you have sufficient RAM.

A:running out of memory on C drive?

If your hard drive is not partitioned, you wont be able to drag the files over to your cd drive unless theres a cd in there wich wont help you because you need the files.

You just need to uninstall some things, delete som things you dont need.

Go Start>>control panel>>add remove>>and remove anyting you dont need.

Hi! I just installed a trial version of TrendMicro PC Cillin Internet Security and it seems like I am constantly getting a message that I am low on memory. I looked at my running processes and a file called tmproxy.exe seems to be using 63,308 K. I assume this may be the reason for the low memory messages. I have never gotten them before this. Whatcha think? I don't ever have a lot of programs open at the same time.

There doesn't seem to be a forum for WMP so I thought I'd try here. I'm getting the following error when opening files from email - Your computer is running low on memory. Quit other programs, and then try again.

However there are no other programs running. The CPU usage is mostly at less than 10% with occasional spikes up to 20-30%. Also if I open files directly from the hard drive I don't get this error.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, no help. I've got V11 and I tried installing V10 instead, no help.
